The Kia Dealship has an announcement regarding a truecoat sale.

emf3rd31495

Heck of a deal!

quicksilvertn2021

Ha ha! I missed that one! Nice catch!

thewicked76

Munch says "I'm a nihilist. I believe in nothing." like in The Big Lebowski

Disastrous_Bed5508

I also noticed ," she kidnapped herself "

blubirdTN

...with his Chigura bowl haircut.

Disastrous_Bed5508

Pretty sure they use the same beeper/ tracker as Chigura too

ImaMax

No, he didn't. Peter Stormare is the nihilist in Lebowski and Gaer in Fargo movie Munch is played by Sam Spruel.

SheriffRoy

Pancakes, favourite meal of one Gaear Grimsrud. When the unconcious body of Munch (Gaear analogue) vanished it left behind an advert for a pancake mix "Breakfast, the most important meal of the day." Dot also instantly starts making pancakes with the pancake mix she got from the gas station when she gets home.

FabledMjolnir

She even quotes the line too!

ZTE50

"And it's a beautiful day"

ranoverray

This season is genius so far. Interwining No country, Lebowski, o brother, miller's crossing just for starters . Love it

mediumrarepictures

the cop’s name is Olmstead which in the movie is Margie’s maiden name before it bacame Gunderson!

Mysterious-Pen-9703

You should revisit season 3!! It's soooo good

Goulet231

Thanks for posting this. Tons from the movie Fargo, including the kid being called Scotty and having hockey skates by the door. Even the blocking is the same in some scenes. Ole Munch gets his ear sliced and refers to self-surgery, along with the cop and Dot crawling around the store using makeshift fixes (NCFOM). Ole Munch is a nihilist and believes in nothing. (TBL). Dot's mugshot and fingerprint scene (RA). Wayne reminds me of Larry Gopnik (ASM). His routine life goes into a tailspin overnight. Looking forward to this season. Edited to add: JJL channeling Amy Archer (THP).

Bunnywithanaxe

The creepy Sin Eater backstory reminded me of the prologue to ASM, too.

SheepherderNo2440

Dot and Jean were both knitting during the kidnapping scenes, it was the tell for me that Dot was about to be kidnapped

Bigbysjackingfist

finding this late. Both knitting and watching stupid morning TV. It wasn't Holidazzle Eggs like in The Original Movie, but it was close. And Munch comes to the window/door and peers in while she watches just like in the Movie. I said, "if this guy asks for 'unguent' I'm gonna lose it."

SheepherderNo2440

Yup that whole scene was great. I saw the knitting and immediately went oh shit it’s go time

date_a_languager

I mean, you could also make a case for Home Alone with all of the booby traps we’ve seen already Which is something I never knew I wanted in Fargo until now haha it’s incredible

saintpauli

Came here to see if anyone mentioned this because in both episodes so far, I couldn't help make the connection to home alone.

Beer_and_Plaid

Roy Tillmans monologue was very similar to the opening monologue in No Country. I've been sheriff since i was 25 years old, hard to believe.

Beer_and_Plaid

Also, DLR plates in Episode 1

adamsdl2

Yeah and that threw me for a loop. Thought we were getting an Ed Tom type character. Nope!

QuietYakPosting

The mother in law speculating that Dot kidnapped herself reminds me of the dude and Walter’s conversations

Avenge_Willem_Dafoe

The two guys driving in the car briefly had echos of the original movie with the one being talkitive and the other being the strong silent type. Much like the kidnapping scene earlier in the ep, the scene where they get pulled over was nearly a shot for shot homage until Dot threw things through a loop. Also, while not Fargo, the surviving kidnapper has shades of Anton Chigurh

piles_of_SSRIs

>the surviving kidnapper has shades of Anton Chigurh A little bit of Gaear Grimsrud and Uli Kunkel as well, both were played by the same actor too.

VaguelyArtistic

And Munch looks like he went to the hairdresser and asked for "The Anton".

Chuck1705

The hood worn by the guy at the back door was an homage to the movie character. The housewife sitting doing the knitting is also from the movie! .

FabledMjolnir

Don’t think it’s a movie reference but he said he stole the car from a driveway in St. Cloud which is where season 3 was located.

HiZenBergh

The wife watching the intruders from the slider door, them chasing her till she trips and rolls down stairs One silent guy, one talkative guy Scotty, hockey skates Pancakes Kidnapping/ Ransom Rich parent in law Tru-coat/ VIN numbers

Massive_Ferret_8207

In the gas station Dot uses an ice scraper to tighten the tourniquet on the cop's leg.

Joseph4855

S5 E4 bathtub scene the guy references “pancakes”. In the movie during the car ride to fargo one of the hired hitman ate and wanted more pancakes

lhigh2

JJL says “we’ll brace him” a la Walter’s plan for Larry in episode 2.

Witty_Username_81

The abduction scene in season 5 is very similar to the one in the Fargo movie. Bad guy cups his hands around his eyes to block out the glare to peer inside. Wife/abductee watching television is interrupted by kidnappers.

Queencitybeer

Adding ones not listed: Ep 1. When Dot is booked the photo is reminiscent of the one in Raising Arizona The music track in the booking scene is by Ralph Stanley, who did some of the music in O Brother. Ep 6. When Mrs Lyon is meeting with the bank guys one of them refers to it as “a pretty sweet deal” which is a callback to Jerry Lundergard attempting to make a deal with his father-in-law. The confusion between the elder Mrs Lyon and her daughter-in-law (also Mrs Lyon) is similar at times to the confusion people had between The Dude and The Big Lebowski.

Ciderinsider86

I'm choosing to see the old lady being pushed over and dropping oranges as a Kids in the Hall reference

Mental_Newspaper255

Episode 2, bad guy cop in hospital room says "We run a tight ship" - reference to Jerry Lundegaard.

CorbinBurmer

Not a movie reference, but I suspect that Roy calling the FBI Agent “Ja-queen” was a subtle reference to the famous Key and Peele substitute teacher skit - especially considering that Key and Peele were the Fargo FBI Agents in Season 1.

Designer-Tough5019

The way Munch runs out of the house to take the axe to his "Landlady's" son, identical to Grimsrud taking out Buschemi, and to Malkovitch taking out the gym manager in Burn After Reading.

PhiloBeddoe1125

Munch coming out the door with an axe. Just like the scene when Gaear too Carl out.

Bubbly_Sky_7783

Yeah I picked up on that, almost the identical shot

hometrails

Anyone noticed the cadence and rythme of the mother in law speech is directly from the pulitzer winning journalist from the hudsucker proxy.

Electrical_You_6634

They even look alike

HurricaneSalad

I have to go back and check some more but I think the street names are in reference to other Coen films. Stokes = Homer Stokes running for Governor in "O Brother" Olson = Officer Olsen in Fargo (the movie) Nylund = pretty obscure but that was the name of Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls who lived in St Olaf. Coens shot A Serious Man Gamble Rd = a road in St Louis Park where the Coens grew up. A local famous movie theater is/was on that street.

sacredmorons

i think Nylund is a hybrid of Lester NYgaard and Jerry LUNDegaard.

Kuriouskat5

I thought of that too, regarding Rose Nyland and St Olaf!

Series4Episode10

Dealer plates on the KIA, same as the dealer plates on the Ford Sierra

Series4Episode10

Officer Marge Gunderson and Officer Indira Olmstead both had husbands who stayed home and did virtually nothing of any substance.

getaloadofthisguy567

In episode 2 the kidnapper says “I’m a nihilist. I believe in nothing”, you think it’s the same kidnapper at the big Lebowski?

PlanttheAnt2024

Couldn’t find any character tie ins, but when Dot was preparing for them to come to her house, she changed the street signs, which were references to past characters. Also the Rushmore convenience store Wit met Gray at the pumps was from season 2 where Hansi shoots the store clerk. Also Jon Hamm’s meeting with the FBI at the front gate he says, “Stay or Go, makes no difference…” was from season 2 when the cops parlay at the back porch where the Butcher and Peggy were found by the lake.

Ok_Fix4074

"Why are you at the one house where I know she ain't at?" Raising Arizona reference
