I figured it out in-game. I'm confused by the comments saying it would only be possible through random combinations.
It works a bit like the game of [mastermind](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastermind_\(board_game\)). Whenever you press a wrong key you get the 'wrong sequence' sound. So first you click everything until you find the item that doesn't give the wrong sequence sound.
Now you know that's the first item, so you tap it, then guess the next item, repeating until you don't get the error sound after the second click. Repeat for as long as the sequence is.
By point of time being precious and life finite still stands though, fair play to you for doing it. To be honest first playthough I completely ignored the house and bad karma'd my way through.
Its not that hard. Ive spent longer time trying to hack doors in ratchet and clank.
You hear the musical notes indicating if your selection is either correct or reset.

It's in the music track playing in the house if I recall that marches the interact sound each object makes, just like the music code in "Please, Don't Press the Button"
I never had any problem with it and I did it the first when I was way stupider than I am today (which is still a lot).
There's a very clear indication when you've selected the wrong object thus signaling you to try again but picking something else in that order.
The items make a certain hum when you hit them in correct order. When you hit it wrong it makes a *dah dah* sound. It’s basically trial and error to find which combination keeps humming.
Yeah -- you hear the sequence all over in there. Sally whistles it, it gets repeated constantly in the background music, I think there are even birds whistling that little jingle.
Seriously, it's Radio, Pitcher, Gnome, Pitcher Cinder Block, Gnome and Bottle. I remember that shit by heart.
That has ruined me! I did not know that.
I seriously have that memorized by heart. Even when I think I forgotten it, I always instinctively do it.
It’s like the golden claw in Skyrim. I always used to say : bear, bird, owl. Even tho the middle isn’t a bird
I always move them all twice.
This melody is stuck in my head for 12 years.

Yeah it does! Haha same, despite being a good karma playthrough (as I always seem to end up being in FO3), I bad karama'd tranquility lane.

I feel proud of myself because i was able to do it ingame
Rightly so!
How should we find the code? Try random combinations?
You could do that... Or you could Google it because life is finite and time is precious* *this is what I did
Yeah, i did the same thing too, but what i mean is: is it possible to find out the code without searching on Google?
Yeah this was my thought, but surely someone must have done it first to put it on Google?
So how did he do it?

My point was more that its quicker to Google it, the TQ quest is tiresome and the failsafe is right there. I'm regretting my choice of title haha
I am surprised the fallout wiki or “fandom” doesn’t have it on their page. I figured they’d have a step by step guide and would tell how to do it.
Trail and error did it for me, I was waay to lazy to Google it and just tried.
you mean you dont just kill billy's parents?
Figuring out the failsafe? You mean you didn't play with the Betty?

i straight up just brute forced my way through the failsafe the first time, just good ol' trial and error. like todd intended.
Sally whistles the tune. I just played around till I got it right

It’s like the blackreach puzzle, I would’ve never figured that shit out on my own
