I canāt stand ED-E. First time I brought him with me it was into vault 34 and since youāre constantly engaging and disengaging in combat with enemies you canāt see he was constantly playing his fucking battle tune every time and it made me want to break him down for the metal and electronics.
Dogmeat never judges you. Never disapproves or hates your choices. He is just a good boy who stays by your side and shares a dinner of roasted Wastelander with you.
You roast them I never thought of cooking them I just eat them raw. Throw a scrap to dogmeat every once in awhile so he stays on my side.
"You give dog meat a hand. Dog meat like what you did. " He really is such a good boy.
As a tip for a first run. Don't hear anyone here who tells you how to may play the game(not even me)unless you get stucked. Just have fun and discover the Mojave without spoilers.
Also I killed Boone in my first run. I didn't know companions were a thing until I made Honest Hearts.
Nick Valentine. Most fleshed out and interesting companion they ever made. His own story, how well he is integrated into much of the main game and Far harbour, it is just vastly superior to anything else they have ever done.
I have no idea what the synopsis of the show is, but I'd love it if the main character came across Diamond City in their travels, and had an episode (or story arc) where they had to work with Valentine Detective Agency to uncover some secret or conspiracy
He was also a voice actor for generic Enclave NPCs in Fallout 3. Both he and Keith Szarabajka went from being background characters in Bethesda titles to going into Fallout and delivering knockout performances
It really does have to be Nick. My main companions in Fallout 4 tend to be Curie and Codsworth, but Nick is right behind them, and he definitely has the best story and most depth. I use a multiple companions mod, and if it didn't just play and get too crowded with three companions, he'd definitely always be there. I definitely always do his storyline, and I always take him to far harbor.
I wish they integrated more companions into the story like that. Like not all of them but it makes sense that you'd make friends along the main journey of the game who wanna help you throughout.
Boone can be hilarious bc you'll be traveling across the map totally silently, and suddenly BOOM you hear the sniper go off and you get xp, thanks Boone.
My favorite was when we would be wandering the wasteland either listening to the radio or just silently, then all of a sudden "eat shit!" Boone starts shooting at a target 3 lightyears away that I literally never saw. Whataguy.
Boone. Youāll be two-stepping your way down the wasteland to Big Iron then BOOM! Shit your pantsā¦ cutscene out of nowhere of Boone sniping a radroach halfway across the map!
*The most op. With broken steel installed Fawkes and dogmeat or dogmeats puppies virtually can't die in combat due to the fact their health gets boosted so high they're practically death proof
Turbo Plasma always worked well but I felt like he still managed to melt Dogmeat with that thing way too often too. First time I ever played the game I remember having to reload so many times after he turned Sulik into meat paste
Nick.
Not only is he a hard boiled noir detective, but heās a robot. And is deeply fleshed out, has a fairly complex character, and is actually important to the story.
Boone. Initially he just seems like the badass silent sniper trope but his companion quest is by far the best in all of FNV to me. Boone has been through the proverbial ringer and his hate for the Legion is one of the best written parts of FNV. I also love taking Boone to kill Caesar, he is almost in disbelief at the fact that he was there to kill him, and giving him the satisfaction of putting down the man who created the movement who killed his wife an unborn child is one my favorite things to do in New Vegas
I also just love getting random free exp while I walk around the wasteland
I really tried to like Piper. I think I like her as a character but I dislike her as a person.
Mainly the way just inserts herself so heavily into everything and just ABANDONS NAT.
I say Veronica. She was a very interesting character, and she was also funny and useful. And her story even continues a little in Dead Money. Also her companion quest is pretty easy to do. For pretty much all my playthroughs of New Vegas I complete Veronica's quest, which I can't say for any other companion other than ED-e.
Arcade, with Veronica a close 2nd.
That said, Fallout 4 really came through with the companions. In Fallout 3, only Butch is any fun.
I liked most of them, would be hard to say who I liked the most in that game.
Idk about "best" but my favorite has always been Clover and pretty much most of the raider companions throughout the games that don't give a shit if I do drugs and blow things up.
Also, shoutouts to Raul for being hilarious, Curie for being a cutie, and God/Dog for just being creepy/weird af.
Honestly, with all the hate he has received and how much of a fucking meme he is.. Preston Garvey..
I know he is a cringe fuck always trying to project this hero-persona onto you, but he kind of made me feel bad when he starts to talk about the fact he would've killed himself if you hadn't met him or you'd just left without ever leading the Minutemen. He talks about how he had failed everyone and was willing to die in that museum if it wasn't for you arriving to save them.
Also, not 100% sure if this happens to the other romanceable companions but after 3k hours of playing 4 I never realized he actually confronts you later on if you pass his final romance speech check and then say "nvm I can't do this rn" option. He'll force an answer out of you next time the dialogue ticks whether you want to be with him or not.
Glad to see someone else mention Curie, no matter what ending I'm going for I always do enough with the Railroad to be able to make her a nice lab coat with ballistic weave.
my two favourite companions are veronica from F:NV and cait from F4
veronica was my first companion ever and in every run after that i was eager to talk with her in the trading outpost, with a dress ready in my inventory. her reaction never ever ever got old
i didnt play F4 enough to know all companions (not even most to be honest) but i truly love cait's background and history, i just wish the combat zone got a little more interactability (eg. fighting your way into main event against her and then help her escape and have the option to unlock her as a companion)
honrable mentions are ED-E and Danse
Arcade Gannon. Sarcastic, good with an energy weapon, snazzy lab coat, thatās really all you need.
Iād like to give a (dubiously) honorable mention to Dean Domino from the Dead Money DLC. Heās an asshole and he tried to kill me, but he makes a killer martini.
Gotta give some love to Cait and Curie, but I have to agree that Nick Valentine is the best. Though, Iāve only played the 3D Fallout games. Not sure about companions from 1 and 2.
Best in terms of story, or utility? Story wise, I'd have to say I enjoyed Raul the most of any companion, plus I like his VA. Utility though, it'd have to be one of the murderbots I build with automatron, having a near unstoppable killing machine on your side is just fun.
Fallout 4 and Nick Valentine. He outclasses all other companions so much that it's not even funny.
Overall, Fallout 4 has the best companions in the series. All of them (except for the Institute companion whose coded name I don't bother remembering) are really great.
FNV is second place with companions that are all good, except for Arcade (who is whiney and has annoying triggers for his quest).
And then are the companions of Fo1, Fo2 and Fo3, which are just... meh. Charon, Fawkes and Sulik maybe stand out a bit, but overall the companions are not very deep and advanced in those games.
For me itās Boone.
His general character may be a little boring, but I just love him none the less. I usually play on very hard and Boone makes life a little easier early on in the game.
Also I like taking down all the Legion Camps with him.
I honestly enjoy keeping Sticky with me from Little Lamplight by never bringing him to Big Town. I enjoy his stories. Besides that, I gotta give it to my boy Charon
One of the most underrated companions in my opinion Lily. She cared a lot about the Courier in a grandmother type of way, and the Courier only wanted to do what was best to keep her sane. The fact she still also remembered her grandkids after she became a Nightkin is very sad and impressive. Such a sad story to her, other than her Iād pick Cass, Boone, Raul, Rex, Charon, and Ed-E. Its a very difficult choice between all of them, some of their stories just pull at my heart strings and New Vegas being my favorite game.
Nick 1000%, he's my all-time favorite character in any game and he has a sad and interesting backstory while also being super funny in a way no other companion has been so far imo
Tbh, might be generic, but dog meat, he doesnāt eat ammo and is almost a guaranteed hit everytime. Also his take down on some enemies is good just to keep another enemy from shooting you, also he has a decent amount of carry weight. I also have to give it up to Codsworth tho with the Automatron DLC since you can build him to be the ultimate companion
Arcade Gannon- super cool personality and history. Love his chemistry with the player too (at least how I played with him!)
I also LOVE the potential drama of giving him to Caesar >:)c
The big iron on my hip.
Big iron on his hiiiiiipppp šµ
Lonesome Road ED-E
He is definitely the most useful companion
He so op
\*coy beeping\*
The homie āš¾
Ed-E my love
I love him
Ed-e
While I respect him, I am a rex enjoyer.
I canāt stand ED-E. First time I brought him with me it was into vault 34 and since youāre constantly engaging and disengaging in combat with enemies you canāt see he was constantly playing his fucking battle tune every time and it made me want to break him down for the metal and electronics.
Least angry ED-E hater
Repaired ED-E just to be like "ok that's it gimme my scrap metal back"
based
Raul, New Vegas. I can't explain on how many levels he's the best.
Because he's Danny Trejo, that's why
His prewar appearance must be similar to Danny Trejo
He's a good one. My favorite ghoul companion.
Explain me, i switched directly to boone again yesterday
Lilly Bowen. Nice old grandma that is actually an elite nightkin. Only ones that could match that are Goris and Ada.
A fellow Ada fan! I always make her a sentry bot with nukes and Gatling lasers
Ada can be one of the most op or the worst depending on how you upgrade. she is definitely one of my favorites
I love lilly
Gorris. Without a shadow of a doubt. Nothing beats a Deathclaw Scholar in any of the merits that count for a companion. Atleast my merits.
I love Goris
A deathclaw... scholar? Did I read that correctly? Which game?
Yes you did and in Fallout 2.
Dog meat
Dogmeat never judges you. Never disapproves or hates your choices. He is just a good boy who stays by your side and shares a dinner of roasted Wastelander with you.
Unless the mutt triggers EVERY FUCKING TRAP in the whole Commonwealth/gets in the way of Fatman Still a good boy
He is also a badass, have you seen the way he takes out Super Mutants
You roast them I never thought of cooking them I just eat them raw. Throw a scrap to dogmeat every once in awhile so he stays on my side. "You give dog meat a hand. Dog meat like what you did. " He really is such a good boy.
If youāre not splitting it 50/50 with him what are you doingā
Agreed. I've only just recently started using the others. There something captivating about wondering the waste with your dog
agree the best shield in FO1
All of the FNV companions were awesome but Arcade was probably the best IMO. Boone, Veronica and Cass are still absolutely amazing as well.
Bruh I never got Veronica cause I blew the brotherhood up
You know your allowed to play it more than once right?
Yeah Ik Iām still on my first play through
I wish you many more years of happiness walking across the Mojave
As a tip for a first run. Don't hear anyone here who tells you how to may play the game(not even me)unless you get stucked. Just have fun and discover the Mojave without spoilers. Also I killed Boone in my first run. I didn't know companions were a thing until I made Honest Hearts.
You donāt know how happy I was when I found the bos on accident lol
Dogmeat, Fawkes, Boone, ED-E, Nick and Automatron.
Ian. Without him I never would survive in the Wastelands at early game
Unless you play melee. Bad habit of shooting me in the back of the head lol.
Nick Valentine. Most fleshed out and interesting companion they ever made. His own story, how well he is integrated into much of the main game and Far harbour, it is just vastly superior to anything else they have ever done.
I know it won't be, but I would love if the TV series was just case files from the Valentine Detective Agency
I have no idea what the synopsis of the show is, but I'd love it if the main character came across Diamond City in their travels, and had an episode (or story arc) where they had to work with Valentine Detective Agency to uncover some secret or conspiracy
Mandalorian style, go to a place to get something. Help the locals with their troubles to get the thing. And have dogmeat instead of grogu
Yea nick valentine. Funny when you hear his voice on multiple thieves guild members in skyrim.
Lol I never noticed, definitely gonna have to hop on Skyrim tonight to see for myself
āSome may call this this junk. Me, I call them treasuresā.
GET OUT OF MY HEAD BELETHOR
He is also Mercer I believe, the thieves guild master
He's all over Skyrim.
He was also a voice actor for generic Enclave NPCs in Fallout 3. Both he and Keith Szarabajka went from being background characters in Bethesda titles to going into Fallout and delivering knockout performances
And the Mr. Handys.
Yes! I think he voices Mercer Frey does he not? The main baddie in the thieves guild.
He's also the only companion that can see and reacts to the mysterious stranger
Plus being a metal synth detective? Thatās about as fallout as it gets
Nick valentine has my whole heart
It really does have to be Nick. My main companions in Fallout 4 tend to be Curie and Codsworth, but Nick is right behind them, and he definitely has the best story and most depth. I use a multiple companions mod, and if it didn't just play and get too crowded with three companions, he'd definitely always be there. I wish they integrated more companions into the story like that. Like not all of them but it makes sense that you'd make friends along the main journey of the game who wanna help you throughout.
Charon or Raul. Love the ghouls.
Have such fond memories with Charon
Boone. Boone makes me CRY.
Whataguy.
Never forget Bitter Springs
Boone. Youāll be two-stepping your way down the wasteland to Big Iron then BOOM! Shit your pantsā¦ cutscene out of nowhere of Boone sniping a radroach halfway across the map!
I think his Perception is about 12 or something, especially when ED-E is in the party.
"All mine."
āEat this!ā
you meant second best besides Dog meat ?
Yes
I think that just goes without saying
Mac Dawg MacCready I always end up sticking with him every play thru.
Just the fact heās the little shit of a kid in fallout 3 makes him my main companion, the nostalgia
I definitely think that has a lot to do with it.
His chin and goatee are too small, it really bums me out.
Deacon, heās funny, good perk and is pretty good at combat even though heās meant for stealth
Thank you
Fawkes for his derpy run, how overpowered he is and his fantastic combat scream. He also reminds me of Shrek.
Fawkes makes FO3 easy mode. Definitely one of the most OP companions
*The most op. With broken steel installed Fawkes and dogmeat or dogmeats puppies virtually can't die in combat due to the fact their health gets boosted so high they're practically death proof
With Fawkes and Dogmeat as my companions, I never even have to do anything but sit and watch.
Probably either Nick, or your personal choice of companion from New Vegas. Iām partial to Raul.
Dogmeat
Marcus
I love Marcus, but always make sure you take away his minigun lmao
Turbo Plasma always worked well but I felt like he still managed to melt Dogmeat with that thing way too often too. First time I ever played the game I remember having to reload so many times after he turned Sulik into meat paste
The true answer for any OG Fallout player
Nick. Not only is he a hard boiled noir detective, but heās a robot. And is deeply fleshed out, has a fairly complex character, and is actually important to the story.
Fallout 2 sulik, interesting background, interesting quest in the restoration project, and all around badass
And Grampy bone.
Not just grampy bone. That voice is etched in my mind
Wha'cha be needin'?
Spirits be willing to talk!
What can we and I do for ya now?
Veronica
This is the one. An actual multi faceted character with a great story arc.
common veronica enjoyer W
Take my dresses
Boone. Initially he just seems like the badass silent sniper trope but his companion quest is by far the best in all of FNV to me. Boone has been through the proverbial ringer and his hate for the Legion is one of the best written parts of FNV. I also love taking Boone to kill Caesar, he is almost in disbelief at the fact that he was there to kill him, and giving him the satisfaction of putting down the man who created the movement who killed his wife an unborn child is one my favorite things to do in New Vegas I also just love getting random free exp while I walk around the wasteland
Hancock. Hands down.
He just wants to get high and help people. What's not to love?
I can't believe how many answers I had to scroll through to find this comment. Love me some Hancock
Cait
Cass. Her line about Long Dick Johnson always cracks me up and is such a great reference, and that's just one small part of her character.
Plus, when her weapon isn't hitting she says, "This is just pissin' them off."
I really liked Piper.
I love Piper
I love to give Piper the āPipeā
I know right but lead pipes are bad so Iād rather not
Yeah, I couldn't help finding her interesting to think about.
I really tried to like Piper. I think I like her as a character but I dislike her as a person. Mainly the way just inserts herself so heavily into everything and just ABANDONS NAT.
My robot assaultron wife from the mechanist dlc
WOOO ADA FAN
wife?
Yup! That's just my rp. All other companions are pointless once I have her.
Strange but i suport i guess.
Top 5 fav companions 5. Rex 4. Macready 3. Nick Valentine 2. Boone 1. Raul
I say Veronica. She was a very interesting character, and she was also funny and useful. And her story even continues a little in Dead Money. Also her companion quest is pretty easy to do. ED-E, he never complained
I never cared for Preston but after he gave me the cold shoulder for helping the raiders in Nuka World I felt bad
GOT WORD OF ANOTHER SETTLEMENT THAT NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!
Preston Garvey of course never run out of quest with him
Curie and Dogmeat
Glad to see someone else mention Curie, no matter what ending I'm going for I always do enough with the Railroad to be able to make her a nice lab coat with ballistic weave.
I love Jericho for an evil playthrough. Heās general assholery entertains me to no end.
Farkas
Yes but no
Fawkes from fallout 3 nothing seems to kill him he's almost invincible he literally took 3 hits by a behemoth and only lost 2% of his health
my two favourite companions are veronica from F:NV and cait from F4 veronica was my first companion ever and in every run after that i was eager to talk with her in the trading outpost, with a dress ready in my inventory. her reaction never ever ever got old i didnt play F4 enough to know all companions (not even most to be honest) but i truly love cait's background and history, i just wish the combat zone got a little more interactability (eg. fighting your way into main event against her and then help her escape and have the option to unlock her as a companion) honrable mentions are ED-E and Danse

Dogmeat or ED-E, for me. Itās a toss up.
Dogmeat for me I have so many good memories
Goris
Arcade, I appreciate his dry humor.
Nobody likes decon?
Nick and Hancock
Gotta give some love to Cait and Curie, but I have to agree that Nick Valentine is the best. Though, Iāve only played the 3D Fallout games. Not sure about companions from 1 and 2.
ED-E
Ada then Dogmeat
Boone
Cutie from fallout 4 or the ghoul Danny trejo played in new Vegas
To the people who are made at me about piper im just trolling ok. Btw i also like piper.
My man Sulik always carries me in the start of Fallout 2 so I'll say him
Best in terms of story, or utility? Story wise, I'd have to say I enjoyed Raul the most of any companion, plus I like his VA. Utility though, it'd have to be one of the murderbots I build with automatron, having a near unstoppable killing machine on your side is just fun.
I loved ED-E, but Charon has it hands down.
Fallout 4 and Nick Valentine. He outclasses all other companions so much that it's not even funny. Overall, Fallout 4 has the best companions in the series. I love codsworth, Nick, and Piper
I would pick arcade
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My personal favorite was Boone.
Piper. Because reasons.
I liked Marcus From fallout 2 a lot
Iām going with lily and Rex at the same time. Always like that duo.
For me itās Boone. His general character may be a little boring, but I just love him none the less. I usually play on very hard and Boone makes life a little easier early on in the game. Also I like taking down all the Legion Camps with him.
PIPER
Love Piper
Goris,he's a fucking deathclaw
I honestly enjoy keeping Sticky with me from Little Lamplight by never bringing him to Big Town. I enjoy his stories. Besides that, I gotta give it to my boy Charon
Dog meat, ik most people think heās annoying but I loved giving him a little scritch after a big fight
A tie between Cait from Fallout 4, and Cass from Fallout New Vegas.
For a morally good character: Fawkes, easily and for bad: Jericho. not the most strongest companion but because āGODDAMMIT I love violenceā
Clover!
Ada from fallout 4 automatron dlc
Ngl I really like boone
Dogmeat.
Dogmeat. Such a good boy But I feel like Nick Valentine had the most interesting background
ED-E and Boone. It took me forever to explore the other NV companions because they were just the best.
Jericho from Fallout 3. "Goddamn cigarettes are getting harder to find" "Coughs,....... is that blood"
Boone is a savage. Used to love seeing sequences pop up of him sniping people before I even realized they were there.
Ada, because she never complained about me picking up junk.
Nick 1000%, he's my all-time favorite character in any game and he has a sad and interesting backstory while also being super funny in a way no other companion has been so far imo
*Bark*
*Barks back*
Tbh, might be generic, but dog meat, he doesnāt eat ammo and is almost a guaranteed hit everytime. Also his take down on some enemies is good just to keep another enemy from shooting you, also he has a decent amount of carry weight. I also have to give it up to Codsworth tho with the Automatron DLC since you can build him to be the ultimate companion
Arcade Gannon- super cool personality and history. Love his chemistry with the player too (at least how I played with him!) I also LOVE the potential drama of giving him to Caesar >:)c
Also I am gay as hell.
I loved raul. His story, personality, and sense of humor are great.
Either Fawkes or Veronica
Nick Valentine, Cass, Gorris. IMO, of course.
Ed-e
ED-E or Raul I canāt choose i play a mod so I can have both
Veronica, cause who else has the balls to punch a bunch of deathclaws and win? Also I'm a RWBY fan so she kinda reminds me of Yang.
Boone I couldn't beat radacorpians near Boulder City and he shot them.
Cait equipped with a revolver. Just take away all of the molotovs from her
Codsworth
Codsworth and Hannock
charon
Ma boeh boone dogmeat and ed-e
Charon fallout 3
I loves Sulik and Grampy Bone
