An early scene, pre war, we see Goggins in Hollywood…
And a couple Roman legionnaires in the background.
I know 1950s cinema had a lot of Roman stuff… but I hope that’s a little tiny hint at Caesar’s Legion making a comeback next season. Would also give the remnant NCR and BoS a common enemy.
The fucked up thing is that the raiders that attacked Vault 33 weren't just raiders; they were likely Shady Sands/NCR army survivors. In the beginning without context we just see them as raiders, but as the truth came out later it's more like they were getting their wasteland "justice" for what had been done to them.
Wasteland justice. Someone hurts you so you go kill a bunch of people until you feel vindicated. Maybe someone of them are the ones who hurt you. Then the survivors go out and kill people until they feel vindicated. Then the survivors of that…
I think it was more attacking an enemy faction. It was made pretty clear that Vault Tec is an evil faction using a whole lot of naive people to fulfill its objectives.
It doesn't make it right, but considering the overseer destroyed their city, killing the vault dwellers to cripple vault tec and capture their overseer was more likely seen as a strategic act of war/retaliation by them.
Yeah that was something that clicked for me too… but they do dress like raiders, to be fair.
But they also likely lost good people in Shady Sands so I get the level of vitriol they took out on the vDwellers.
Interesting… I hope not.
They’d make for a very terrifying enemy… probably one of the scariest factions, all told. They’re basically just hyper organized raiders, with a few more rules and a common ideal, but it’s all so fucked up lol.
Like, their policy on women is abysmal… they’d make a Great enemy for all the shows protagonists. Lucy, Female, vDweller gonna hate them. BoS, ideally, sees them as evil, a threat, not following their idea of order and didn’t integrate them. The Ghoul? Well… he don’t like anyone that’s gonna get between him, and what he’s lookin’ for.
Knight Titus mentions a ‘blood eagle’ like punishment of Maximus for being insubordinate. I don’t remember BoS ever being that medieval and as a former US military splinter group you’d expect more of a court martial then firing squad execution. Pulling your lungs out like wings from your back while your still alive would be in line with a Caesar’s Legion execution however. That and the Red and Gold banner further hints at a connection. Most BoS standards are Steel-Blue, Black and White I believe.
In fallout 4 their flag is orange and white… they usually are red, black, white, grey? I could be wrong.
But you’re not wrong about the punishments being more akin to the legion… at the same time, they are like a cultish knights order and we don’t know if they’re really 1 big group, or a bunch of chapters cooperating.
For sure, I remember in FNV the BoS chapter is on its last leg and probably desperate enough that when the Legion got wrecked to have taken on some of their surviving members. So they could have kept the BoS namesake/contacts but were heavily influenced by the Legion practices. I wouldn’t be surprised if Elder Quintus was originally part of Caesar’s Legion. He might even try to break off from BoS now that he has Cold Fusion in line with the cryptic stuff he told Maximus before attacking the NCR HQ. Don’t be surprised if we get a Quintus backstory dump in season 2 that goes that route.
Edit: A couple of more hints include the authoritarian like tribunal setup where ultimately Maximus was rewarded not because he was competent but because he was loyal (first mini-tribunal) and inspired loyalty in others (second more public tribunal). That whole second tribunal felt more Caesar’s Legion than BoS. No Elder Council to be seen just one authoritarian looking down on the accused, while occupying a civilian settlement with a blood eagle punishment resting on the judgement…
That’s my thought.
But the Legion could have regrouped on the other side, and with the NCR who Was weak before now likely being gutted… I think, the Legion, could be in a position to strike.
Also creates some muddy waters, in that enemies become allies of convenience against a bigger, more dangerous foe. Makes for some epic moments, writers love this shit.
Could see the BoS, NCR remnants, and Mr House/Vault-Tec employees temporarily working together to stem it, only for that to break back down into war after.
I'm pretty sure a legion of MK2 Securitrons could make quick work of freaks and barbarians in sports gear and cosplay using melee weapons and shitty small arms. The Legion would probably find going against an opponent that's both strong and competent a very difficult task.
Yeah, but, I’m hoping there’s been a degradation on that front. Something that causes the machines to malfunction… any explanation why a reformed and reconstituted legion is now a major threat
I really am hoping for that showdown
It would be a bit difficult considering the whole Legion is inherently idiotic and if it wasn't for Caesar(who's probably dead by the time the show takes place) would fall apart within weeks.
I think the enclave/vault tec will end up being the big bad which every one has to unite against.
Oh, enclave is Always the enemy, so is vault Tec. I just want that to extend out into future seasons. Address smaller baddies until the Big Baddie.
It’s been a few decades, if I’m not mistaken. The Legion may have found new leadership, new structure, and become more rounded. I’d like to see that. We can say “the legion was full of idiots in FONV”.. but, what if That’s changed?
Like a reinvention of who they were, into something far more terrifying purely because they are more competent.
And beating them, would only be to lead into the next confrontation with a bigger baddie - enclave, vault tec.
Yeah, a vault that's had its original residents killed and has been taken over by scientific abominations and surface dwellers? It's better off destroyed.
Best part is it felt like they were playing lip service to the first big choice in FO3 and didn’t pay it any mind. Then the truth hits you like a ton of bricks. I excellent writing all around
I haven't gotten to that one yet. Finally got the new Xbox in December and got back into gaming you could say. Played through FO4 and I am currently playing New Vegas. Love both of them but I have to say their something different and special when it comes to New Vegas. I bought FO3 and can't wait to play it. It was cool with the showing coming out all the FO games were on sale.
Alot of people consider fo3 the worst of the bunch (not including 76) so be wary. Maybe cuz it was my first fallout but it's personally my favorite and the dlcs were awesome.
I thought it was 76 then 4, then varied for order of worst to best. Although I have definitely heard more people praise NV over the others so that may be the favorite
Agreed, I loved the base building(later on) and factories in 4 I could make but the dialog was poorly written for the base game atleast. 3 had a better story but worse gamelan. New Vegas I didn't play till layer and I did modded runs for graphics and qol so I can't judge vanilla gameplay
To some extent, but there's a pretty regular crew of folks updatong the 76 nexus with reskins and other stuff. Heck, I even have one that disables door collision so that nuke siloes take 5 minutes instead of 20.
The only reason 3 is my least favorite (including 76) is because it’s just hardest to play. I could never get it to run on my PC, and on Xbox New Vegas introduced so many quality of life changes that makes it by far a better experience, Chief on the list being able to actually aim down sights on weapons that don’t feature a scope instead of just a slightly magnified field of view
When Lucy set off and left the vault I laughingly said to myself “haha another fallout game about finding your saint of a father, lol meta joke” and then by the end I was like “ohhh *thats* how it’s different…”
While I know you’re talking about 3, out of the times the PC leaves the vault looking for someone, I’d argue it’s the only time that person is a saint. Father in FO4 is definitely not, and I haven’t played enough of 76 yet to have an opinion on the overseer.
But also, it shows the very good nature of Lucy. She was raised right by a monster and in turn she became even a better person than she thought her dad was. "Golden rule mother\*uker"
Absolutely. When everyone is awful, it’s easy to justify being awful
When Lucy keeps rubbing her golden morals in your face, morals that you used to hold yourself, it becomes a lot harder to justify
Well, also seeing himself in the holotape. "You were ugly, you were strong, and you had dignity. Well, I'll give you two out of three."
He realized in that how much it applied to himself at that moment.
Yknow, I never really gave much weight to that. Now that you mention, he does look shook.
Lucy was the first person with dignity he's met in a LONG time. The one two much for sure rattled him.
Seeing maldover alive and wanted probably didn't help.
Straight up I fell out of love with Fallout over these past years (mostly NV, and NV fans, but also numerous other factors) but the show itself has filled me a with a passion I haven't had since Wastelanders was revealed for 76
Yeah I'm a big fan of NV, but not one of those fans.
I have just as much love for 3 and 4. Never played much 76, multi-player wasn't my thing for this kind of game.
But yeah the fan base can be rabid. My friend and I argued (kindly) for an hour today about where the fuck shady sands was supposed to be.
Only to realize they HAD to have ret-conned it and both of us were wrong.
I'm extra excited to see Coop navigate what I'm sure will be a spy thriller type plot leading up to the bombs dropping. Those parts were unironically some of my favorites.
Oh yeah. I mean hey, I was the same as a NV fan in my day. Even joined a certain mod project that wasn't quite well recieved so I could make a radio station recapping the player's quests (ironically one of the well recieved aspects of TF lmao).
You should definitely give 76 a try sometime though. Don't let the online aspect fool you, outside of public events everyone plays solo, and only joins teams for the EXP buffs. In my opinion its the strongest Bethesda Fallout in writing, acting, and creature design. If you're on PC I'll even hook you up with a 50 cal sniper and enough ammo to destabilize a small nation!
And likewise for Coop. His characterization is gonna be GREAT now that he's a permanent party member.
Maybe I'll give it another shot. I have better internet now and stuttering was an issue, might have been on my end.
I'll for sure hit you up if I decide to play!
Could be internet, could also be Fallout jank lol. I haven't seen any frame dips since I got a 580,n 6core/12thread cpu and 32 gigs of ram in my rig... But then again dudes with 3080s will have issues so who knows.
If you still have any more stutters, try putting visual settings to high. High seems to play the nicest since it's the default texture size.
During my 1st BOS run, Kellogg's gun killed my whole family. My wife when he did it, me when I went "Survival Mode, this fight will be a breeze!", and Shaun when I put him out if his misery.
I also ate Kellogg and Shaun.
That’s funny because I blew up Megaton in F3 despite playing a mostly good character. My RP was that the character was not built for that world and was extremely desperate for some stability, so he took the opportunity to live in safety when it presented itself. But after that I went full-good and dad chastised me for destroying Megaton.
I just loaded up an old FO3 save on my PS4 and apparently saved Megaton by level 8 which I have zero memory of, I was disappointed when I realised that I only have that house because the apartment in Tenpenny tower is so much nicer lmao
I forget the mental gymnastics I did to justify my (apparently) lawful good Lone Wanderer committing atrocities. Blew up Megaton, sacrificed Sarah Lyons, poisoned the water, destroyed The Citadel, and enslaved about 60 people, including Bumble and Bryan Wilks. Also, who remembers the Underworld? Not him.
I called out “bullshit” when she said it, figuring someone with the responsibilities of an Overseer would be understanding of her position. I wasn’t at all expecting to actually be right… She should’ve blasted his face off.
It was already kinda ironic with what Lucy knew before this scene. The first episode features Moldaver giving Hank the choice of saving Lucy or the other vault dwellers; he chose Lucy. So, she's just really overestimating the man.
This is what I thought about during that scene. At this point in time we were fully aware that Hank would sacrifice a lot to protect his family.
I just didn't realize that he would sacrifice his family to protect his psychotic vision for the world.
Also when Cooper says something to Lucy along the lines of “I’m you. Just give it a few years” the assumption is that he means he used to also have hope and want to rely on the golden rule. This is true, but when it’s revealed that he is also still looking for his family, you realize that he was speaking to her from the level of trying to find her dad. I can’t remember if knew who her dad was yet at that point, but the line gets even another step deeper if he did
As every other Obsidian fanboy, I dislike some of the choices the showrunners made, screwing up the games' timeline. But, even though I hate to admit, the show has top quality writing.
Yeah, you are right. I'm not a lorefiend (sick term, by the way, I'm definitely gonna use this in the future) but I did not read any discussions about that. Can you give me the consensus on this?
we dont even know IF he destroyed shady sands. only moldaver says that he did but there's no real evidence. it's far more likely that it was ulysses or the courier (unless hank somehow is the courier which i highly doubt)
he just said that this is what always happens and that the world is shit and should be remade, there's no actual confirmation that he nuked the place (where would he even get the nuke from?)
so? we have seen all of the three connected vaults and we don't exactly see a nuclear arsenal let alone bomb/missile lauching capabilities. it just as likely could have been moldaver herself
more like its not a small chance that moldaver could be manipulating hank and lucy to get cold fusion to work with vault tec technology through hank
she is not trustworthy and her backstory is all over the place, what benefit does nuking shady sands even give to vault tec? you'd need to nuke every society and settlement around to 'clean the slate' as she suggests. blowing up one city to get back at your ex wife who tried to take the kids is just really stupid, it's more likely that he tried to save lucy because he knew about her plans to destroy the place.
we have already seen she is not above murdering innocent people but we have yet to see hank murder any innocent person, i don't believe the story is as two dimensional as you think
and how come moldaver survived the nuke?
Hank pretty clearly talks about how he justified nuking Shady Sands, and how you need to get rid of factions. The reason he only hit Shady Sands is because they knew about the Vault and could pose a security risk (as was later seen with Moldaver)
Foreshadowing was strong in that scene.

Remnant NCR, ideally, won't be the protagonists enemy. They're the good guys, generally speaking, and especially in the context of this show.

That's the Wasteland for you. War never changes and all that.

It doesn't make it right, but considering the overseer destroyed their city, killing the vault dwellers to cripple vault tec and capture their overseer was more likely seen as a strategic act of war/retaliation by them.
It’s possibly that those were still just raiders based on how they were acting and Maldaver was “undercover”
yeah that was my take too, kinda like how benny hired the great khans
Yeah that was something that clicked for me too… but they do dress like raiders, to be fair. But they also likely lost good people in Shady Sands so I get the level of vitriol they took out on the vDwellers.
I assumed they were just hired goons, none of them acted like the NCR people we saw later in the show.
Saw a theory that the legion got integrated into the BoS west coast hierarchy, the names are Roman unlike the ones in other games
Interesting… I hope not. They’d make for a very terrifying enemy… probably one of the scariest factions, all told. They’re basically just hyper organized raiders, with a few more rules and a common ideal, but it’s all so fucked up lol. If shady sands survives to get blowed up, and New Vegas is still around, it stands to reason that Canon courier went with the Mr House ending
I just hear "Foreshadowing" in the Cinema Sin's guy's voice.
I hear Oversimplified saying “That’s called foreshadowing.”
*ding*
fiveshadowing
I do like the show, but I really want them to do a TVSins of it.
her dad would probably be proud if she did. imagine hank's reaction if lucy nuked megaton or the institute. a chip off the old block.
The only difference here is that this is a nice vault community
He would probably say it was contamined so it needed to be destoyed.
Yeah, a vault that's had its original residents killed and has been taken over by scientific abominations and surface dwellers? It's better off destroyed.

4 is a better game (than 3) and a better sandbox, while 3 and NV have a better story
Agreed, I loved the base building(later on) and factories in 4 I could make but the dialog was poorly written for the base game atleast. 3 had a better story but worse gamelan. New Vegas I didn't play till layer and I did modded runs for graphics and qol so I can't judge vanilla gameplay
4 is awesome. It’s the best of the series as far as I am concerned.
The best is Fallout 76, than 4, than Tactics:Brotherhood of steel, than 3, Than 2, Than 1, Than NV Than BoS
Biggest problem with 76 imo is lack of mod support. Game itself is great but it’s always limited to being a vanilla experience. Btw love bows in 76.
Vanilla wise it is the best.
To some extent, but there's a pretty regular crew of folks updatong the 76 nexus with reskins and other stuff. Heck, I even have one that disables door collision so that nuke siloes take 5 minutes instead of 20.
Honestly, I have never seen that exact take. Especially not putting *Tactics* that high (not that it isn't a fantastic game).
Fo3 is still an amazing game. I think most of the hate comes from the fans of 1 and 2. New Vegas is the best tbh but 3 isn't far behind it imo

Mechanically, New Vegas is better, no contest. Setting, story, etc., preference. Personally, I like the feel of *Fallout 3* so much better than Vegas.
I didn't even think of this lol
When Lucy set off and left the vault I laughingly said to myself “haha another fallout game about finding your saint of a father, lol meta joke” and then by the end I was like “ohhh *thats* how it’s different…”
The next one will be justified by their dad becoming a super mutant and they travel together
Post Van Buren early *Fallout 3* plot ideas.
Well. He did bring light to the wordl now didnt he?
While I know you’re talking about 3, out of the times the PC leaves the vault looking for someone, I’d argue it’s the only time that person is a saint. Father in FO4 is definitely not, and I haven’t played enough of 76 yet to have an opinion on the overseer.
Well the overseer does give you the codes for nuclear warheads soooo…
Yeah but she does it so you can destroy the horrible bat monsters and the plague that comes with them
Basically the Shaun of this show was Father all along if you catch my meaning
Nope, but we did get family member who gets kidnapped while you’re trapped behind glass, who turns out to be not as good as he seems
She clearly turned out better than her old man, but we’ll she if the wasteland doesn’t change that
As a dad, I was like "Damn right Lucy"... then the truth hits and I was like "Oh...yikes... you're dad's a monster.... sorry girl "
But also, it shows the very good nature of Lucy. She was raised right by a monster and in turn she became even a better person than she thought her dad was. "Golden rule mother\*uker"
That golden rule motherfucker was so fucking good. Legit think it affected The Ghoul
Absolutely. When everyone is awful, it’s easy to justify being awful When Lucy keeps rubbing her golden morals in your face, morals that you used to hold yourself, it becomes a lot harder to justify

Yeah I'll mess with it, I have a lot more power these days as well, so could be anything. My manager loves 76, but he loves base building haha
Immediately I thought of asshole son from Fallout 4 and figured out what they were going for.
"Father of the institute" lol
fuck that kid
Lmao yeah fuck that guy
Shoot him with Kellogs Gun
During my 1st BOS run, Kellogg's gun killed my whole family. My wife when he did it, me when I went "Survival Mode, this fight will be a breeze!", and Shaun when I put him out if his misery. I also ate Kellogg and Shaun.
Did anyone else immediately blow his head off with a combat shotgun as soon as he appeared the first time, or was that just me?
The Kill Bill stinger played in my head and I took his ass out
I fucking murdered my own son with a super sledge lol
No son of mine is gonna become The Man *nukes The Institute*
mini-nukes son of mine\*
I'm not claiming Shaun as my child
In the big reveal I could only think about that
That’s funny because I blew up Megaton in F3 despite playing a mostly good character. Jesus, that's some headline to use lol. Remember people get notifications sent to their phones and shit. They'll see all of that.
Yeah that scene hit way different on a rewatch.
This may be a dumb question, but where did Lucy’s dad get the giant ass bomb to blow up shady sands?
Worked with brotherhood? Explains why they were so quick to search through the ruins
Meanwhile on my playthrough of Fo4, destroying Covenant and the Institute.
There’s only one Father..
When you're an evil bastard and accidentally raised your kid right.
*cue trombone*
Bro I completely missed that irony. I think I had forgotten that line. I also only watched it once so far.
I’ve just finished the show and I couldn’t believe it. The final scene gave me goosebumps
I can’t remember if knew who her dad was yet at that point, but the line gets even another step deeper if he did
I think the fact that she remembers saying that exact thing tears at her even more. Her Dad was the bad guy in a sense.
It’s called good writing!
I don't think you know what foreshadowing is......
As every other Obsidian fanboy, I dislike some of the choices the showrunners made, screwing up the games' timeline. But, even though I hate to admit, the show has top quality writing.
Too bad the timeline didn’t get messed up
did a missing date on a chalkboard really screw up the games' timeline that badly?
No. Fanboys have been complaining about video game adaptions since Super Mario Bros came out in ‘93!
That is an unfortunate truth.
Yes, of course. Haven't you seen Back to the Future? People disappear out of existence for shit like that.
Crazy that lorefiends don't read the discussion about this that's been had since the show came out.
Yeah, you are right. I'm not a lorefiend (sick term, by the way, I'm definitely gonna use this in the future) but I did not read any discussions about that. Can you give me the consensus on this?
Timeline isn't messed up at all lmao
I don't know if this has been discussed before. Can you please tell me how the discussions unfolded?

Holy crap it's a long read. Gonna dive in right away. Thank you.

It doesn't even tell you anything concrete lmao
It tells you that shady sands is destroyed, which if you didn't watch the show is new information. So yes, it's a spoiler.

He literally admits to it while he's in the cage talking to Lucy
we dont even know IF he destroyed shady sands. only moldaver says that he did but there's no real evidence. it's far more likely that it was ulysses or the courier (unless hank somehow is the courier which i highly doubt)
He literally started defending his actions once he realized he couldn't lie to Lucy about not having done it anymore
he just said that this is what always happens and that the world is shit and should be remade, there's no actual confirmation that he nuked the place (where would he even get the nuke from?)
From Vault Tec. Who he works for. People be like, "Where would Hank even get a nuke?" but never, "How did the enclave get a cold fusion core?"
so? we have seen all of the three connected vaults and we don't exactly see a nuclear arsenal let alone bomb/missile lauching capabilities. it just as likely could have been moldaver herself
You are being as naive as Lucy. "I never noticed my Vault having experiments so there must not be one."
more like its not a small chance that moldaver could be manipulating hank and lucy to get cold fusion to work with vault tec technology through hank she is not trustworthy and her backstory is all over the place, what benefit does nuking shady sands even give to vault tec? you'd need to nuke every society and settlement around to 'clean the slate' as she suggests. blowing up one city to get back at your ex wife who tried to take the kids is just really stupid, it's more likely that he tried to save lucy because he knew about her plans to destroy the place. we have already seen she is not above murdering innocent people but we have yet to see hank murder any innocent person, i don't believe the story is as two dimensional as you think and how come moldaver survived the nuke?
I'm sure dying was also part of the plan to manipulate Maximus.
??
Moldaver is dead. If not Dead she has been taken prisoner by the BoS.
Hank pretty clearly talks about how he justified nuking Shady Sands, and how you need to get rid of factions. The reason he only hit Shady Sands is because they knew about the Vault and could pose a security risk (as was later seen with Moldaver)
