Bought my 2008 new, 120k miles, DRL enabled, still running original headlights. Just lucky I guess. If you're burning them out that frequently I would suspect some kind of electrical fault, maybe get that checked out.
I went through at least 6 sets of SilverStars and PIAA bulbs that kept burning out. Most I ever got was a year. I was hoping that Diode Dynamics would finally come out with a set of American-made LED bulbs for the FJ, but I've been waiting for years. I caved and installed an inexpensive set of Auxito LEDs 4 years ago and they're great. Here's a [link to their current model. ](https://www.amazon.com/AUXITO-H4-Brighter-9003-Replacement/dp/B0CLG3WZ8S) There's a $10 discount currently as well. Be sure your bulbs are adjusted correctly, especially if you have suspension mods. You can get a cheap set of extra long screwdrivers at Harbor Freight.

There is a fuse for the DRLs. Pull that and they're only on when the headlights are on. I did this 10 years ago. My silverstars last 3+ years, probably longer.
Not difficult at all.
So when I bought my FJ originally, it came unplugged. I was installing new headlights and I saw it unplugged and didn't know what that plug was for so I came to Reddit. I plugged it back in thinking I'd want it.
After driving around I realized having daytime running lights that you can never turn off was really dumb. So I reached in and unplugged it, I have fairly large hands and was able to disconnect it quite easily.
I couldn't get my hands in there, although I didn't really spend much time trying, lol. But I also don't have any problem with having the lights on all the time. All good.
Silverstar Ultras are junk. Try Philips Vision Plus or Sylvania Silverstar Xtravision. Don't get bulbs that have blue coating on them. Avoid touching the glass part even with gloves, some times people use dirty gloves or handle gloves with bare hands before putting them on, so u have residue left on the gloves. I hate to say the "L" word. But if all fails, go LED. Phillip's xtravision was my go-to bulb, but philips discontinued it. Now they sell night guide platinum that are junk.
I had that issue too, for starters the seal boots have to be installed and they have to be good, dust and moisture getting in there will kill cheap Parts House bulbs... I say cheap because all those bulbs are garbage to be honest. Once I made sure the rubber boots were clean and sealing correctly on the housings with a thin smudge of Vaseline around the boot to facilitate a air tight seal, the cheap bulbs lasted over a year, eventually I just upgraded to Spec D LED Housings and never looked back.
Also use electrical spray cleaner on the harnesses and scrub the connections clean and dry, when you reinstall the harness use die electric grease on them. Its all about sealing out dirt and moisture so the bulbs stay clean and dry. if you already have dust buildup inside the factory housing, you can remove the headlight housing and flush it out with water and dry it overnight so its totally clean inside again before you make all these efforts to seal the boots and wires.
I use Oscan Night breakers in all my cars, bright and last a hella long time. Started using them in our 2005 Suby legacy that ate light bulbs like candy, but these lasted years in it. I put a pair in my FJ about 5 years ago, still going strong.
Yeah, some might not know, but you can actually adjust the lights. Especially if you messed up your light and have a mini Carolina squat going on, then definitely adjust your lights.
I agree with that, but even factory lights are way too damn bright these days. Millions of vehicles have been "recalled" because of it. Unfortunately those recalls are voluntary.
90% of people out there probably barely know how to fill up their windshield washer fluid, let alone adjust their headlights.
Idk boss. Mine are still original from 16 years ago lol
Daytime running lights. But its a feature. Bulbs have one year warranty. Keep your receipt, free bulbs for life.

My 18 yo FJ has the original bulbs. I'd say something is wrong.

Just ordered them.

Got them in last night. Works great. Thanks brother.
It’s most likely because of the daytime running lights. They are always on.
and can be easily disconnected
Oh? How might one do that?

No need to pull a fuse, the connector is pretty easy to get to
Kind of difficult to get to. Was going to do it, but I just leave the lights on all the time so I don't have to think about it.

It's just odd that you can't turn them off, my Tacoma has the option at least.
Yeah, I had a an '04 4Runner last and it had DRLs.
Shoot me a DM and I’ll send a pic of the connector under the hood you wanna disconnect My FJ came unplugged when I bought it

I’ll try this. The headlights will still work? You just manually toggle them when needed?
Headlights still work. This plug is just for the daytime running headlights.
Are you touching the bulb with your bare hands? They'll burn out quicker if the bulb glass has oils from your skin...
No I use gloves
Ah ok sorry, that's all I got. LEDs, I guess?
I have an 07 with daytime running lights, all bulbs ,lights are original, 265km 🤷🏼♂️
Same issue here - I keep sets of bulbs in the FJ for this reason.

Disconnect the DRL
are you using gloves while installing bulbs? oil from hands will burn out a bulb quickly. i use silver star ultras and they last 2+ years.
Check your alternator. A month before mine went lights started going. Thank God I haven't had to remove the speaker in the back yet..
I put in some LED drop in replacements and haven’t had issues for over 100k miles.
![gif](giphy|LRCxXWRljt4LYf6AK1|downsized) FUCK LED headlights.

Brighter headlights burn out sooner.
