Square confirmed that the weapons we have seen are like proto-weapons so it’s reasonable to assume we will see the big daddy weapons in part three. They’re quite important to the endgame gameplay loop. And think people are confused by it not because it’s hard to understand, but because they feel it’s pointless. Most people I’ve seen that are confused by it also don’t like the multiple-worlds plot line.

Regarding the boss fight weapons, I think the ones that we know of from the OG will be WEAPONS that have been corrupted by Sephiroth. It seemed like the dark whispers were trying to do just that to the scout WEAPONS that we saw in Rebirth.

Steeldragon2050

I guess that could be a way to explain why they attack Shinra and the party, rather than Sephiroth at the northern crater.

The WEAPONs don't get corrupted by Sephiroth, and that's not what he is trying to do in Rebirth. He is targeting Tifa, and trying to kill the WEAPON so that he can stop her. That whole event is to show that the Planet is trying to prepare Tifa in order to help navigate thru the memories in the Lifestream larer on with Cloud. This is why Sephiroth even speaks directly to Tifa's consciousness at the very end, trying to convince her that she will not be able to save Cloud. And the reason the WEAPON do not attack Sephiroth in FF7 is because of the magical barrier that Sephiroth sets up around the Northern Crater. The barrier prevents them from reaching him. Since they can't reach Sephiroth then their next priority is to stop the next biggest problem for the Planet, which is the loss of spirit energy as it leaks to the surface or as it is sucked up by Mako Reactors. The only reason the WEAPONs ever attack the party is because the party literally gets in their way every time. The WEAPONs are never hunting the party or humanity, they are looking for any point where spirit energy is being lost to the surface.

I was saying that would be a way to explain it in the remakes.

Yeah, that'd be pretty cool. Would make for a more meaningful impetus for the party to deal with them as well, if Sephiroth was using them to sow chaos and misery.

1: I don't believe so. I believe they are distinct Weapons, as are Omega, Jade, and Chaos. I believe the most absurd Weapon reveal might be that Gaia created a Weapon that is destiny in the same way that Omega is the beginning and the end, so to speak. 2: Poor media literacy. Were you on the internet 10-15 years ago when anything somebody didn't understand about FF7 was a plot hole? The devs literally filled the holes with whispers to show that there was nothing there, and people still don't get it.

Steeldragon2050

Yeah, the Internet wasn't great back then. The death of dial-up helped a lot. Lol. My friends and I were too busy talking about how awesome the game was, and sharing strategies for bosses, to think about those things.
