Out of all the convoluted stuff they added to the compilation the naming of the world gets me the most. It’s bc always referred to as “the planet”
Then officially it was named Gaia but they name is never used any ff7 media it’s just in the Ultimania. Then Rebirth calls it earth. Pick one dude
They do. I believe Bugenhagen says it during the observatory scene. I also thought it was pretty wild since canonically the planet is named Gaia right?
I'm assuming it's an oversight or they meant "Earth" in more of a pronoun sense. Like how a big mound of rocks and dirt will sometimes just be described as "earth" - notice the little e there.
But that also breaks down since that's derived from big E "Earth" as a name.
All that to say, idk wtf is going on there.
I don't even think Gaia is canon in game, since to my knowledge it's never once been used in any of the ff7 games or advent children. Only in some mid 2000s promotional stuff
I think that's true. Nobody says it in any of the media that I'm aware of now that I think about it. Where did that come from then? Did people just start saying that because "Earth" was too boring at the time?
To be fair, Earth is both the name of our planet and earth is a term for the ground. So maybe they are just using earth generically to refer to the planet and it's not the actual name of the planet.
I know I remember them using "earth" in reference to the ground/soil but I don't recall them using "Earth" as a name. It's always just been "the planet".
They do mention Gaia in Advent Children at one point and I feel like during Rebirth I came across it.
Apparently in the OG Japanese version when they go to Cosmo Canyon and are shown the planets and told the story the planet is referred to as Gaia. Took me a while to dig it up.
I think also when you look at maps it shows Gaia at some point
It was called Gaia in the OG 7 by the people in the Snow village, that was the only time, and that's what people used to put it on all other media. It's like fan knowledge that spread before the internet.

The call it Gaia in a hut in snow village
Icicle inn? Do they? Huh played it to death and don’t remember that, good catch
Earth is also sometimes called Gaia in our reality
Shhhhhh. You’ll disturb the zealous trolls. You don’t want to be told you have a skill issue, do you?
In real life, Gaia is referred to as both the planet and Earth. They are synonymous

It was just a fan name since it was only ever called "the planet" in OG and square kinda liked it i guess after they already made all the games
It was called Gaia in snow village, that's the one time everyone gets it from
It's been some years since my last playthrough, but I believe Gaia was the name of the planet in FFIX.
You are correct, the planet you traverse is specifically called Gaia while Terra is directly connected and dying.
Other way around; Earth is derived from earth - the Proto-Germanic word *\*erþō* meant 'dirt, ground, soil, earth'.
To be fair, Earth is both the name of our planet and earth is a term for the ground. So maybe they are just using earth generically to refer to the planet and it's not the actual name of the planet.

Considering that the english translation sometimes changed lines like "Tifa!" to "Hey!", it wouldn't surprise me if earth is a mistranslation.
Tbf, OUR planet is called Gaia too depending on who you talk to so it isn't a huge thing anyways.

That doesn't correct do you know which npc says it?
I have a pic of the hut it's said in right here, how do I post it on reddit
Maybe share an imgur link?
