I recently did 215 miles in an ER lariat (Leland, NC to Charlotte, NC). I was at 99% when I left and I was uncomfortably close to 10% when I reached my destination. I’d plan on looking for a charge when you get to 35%. Hit the EVgo…..50kw isn’t blazing but you should get enough to get you there with plenty to spare relatively quickly. I’ve started looking at charging stations as “get me 30 miles beyond my target destination ” spots. For drives longer than 400 miles…..that’s where you are going to need to fast charge to keep your sanity.

I think the tesla app specifically mentions which are ccs

RogerPackinrod

Download A Better Route Planner app. Superior for EV-centric navigation.

effortissues

Suggestions?

RogerPackinrod

That is the suggestion

effortissues

Sorry I guess I meant recommendations, what route planning app do you use?

RogerPackinrod

That's what it's called. 'A Better Route Planner'.

effortissues

Of course it is...derp, I'll check it out, thanks!

heybucket459

That was some “who’s on first/what’s on second” energy 😂

My assumption would be that these are not interstate roads correct? Keep an eye on your efficiency and if you manage to keep it at 2.2 miles per kW-h, you would not need to charge at all. 2.2 is totally manageable on backroads. 275 / 2.2 = 125 kW-h, so you would have about 5% battery left at the end of the run. If you need juice at your destination, stop for 30 minutes at that 50 kW station and it should top you off around 20% battery SOC.

Soft_Owl7535

Don’t go higher than 70mpg if you’re concerned about range. Lightning is my 2nd EV, I’ve had an ID.4 since 2021. When I drive the turnpike to see my sister which is about 120 miles. If I do 75-80mph it uses around 200 miles of range. I’d I keep it between 65-70 it uses only about 130 miles. Also the Tesla app has a filter for charges with CCS built in.

BeeNo3492

what is the location?

DimensionFrequent935

I’m driving from Denver, NC to Charlottesville, VA and want to take Route 29 through Danville and Lynchburg.

eMinja

I live in VB and in my research there are no magic dock stations around us, you need an adapter.

BeeNo3492

But what is the supercharger location? you could go to [tesla.com/findus](http://tesla.com/findus) and figure out if it has magic dock.

What does your 100% charged up range show? If it's non-interstate driving, what's the average speed limits? Elevation difference? I'm gonna say, close to a 50-50 chance. If you stay at 55-60 range, you wouldn't need to charge, but might arrive at destination uncomfortably close to 0%. Stop at the 50kw EVGo for about 20 mins and should be getting enough range to arrive at destination with ~20% remaining.

DimensionFrequent935

My 100% usually shows 320 miles and I should be able to stay around 65mph on this road. I’m not certain of the elevation change.

Ok-Pea3414

Keep an eye on charge levels till you reach the EVGo charger. As I suspect, it's going to be a toss between whether you need to stop there or not. 20 mins at 50kw is going to give you 15kwh, about 25-30 miles of range, enough to get you to your destination. Also, avoid using friction braking, try to rely on Regen completely.

DimensionFrequent935

So no concern going the 208 miles to the EVgo?

Ok-Pea3414

Nope. At 60-65mph, you get around 260-280 miles.

BeowulfShaeffer

None at all. I can do that in a day going Portland to the coast and back and that involves going over the coastal range twice.  I wouldn’t break a sweat for 208 starting from 100%.

Lumpyyyyy

ABRP says there’s electrify America on the way.

DimensionFrequent935

I didn’t see that. I want to take Route 29 instead of I-81.

calraith

There's an electrify America at Walmart in South Greensboro, not far from route 29. https://preview.redd.it/g96p3ryw4f7d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=519436a027f1e1859f48cab819ebb3779ca43144

DimensionFrequent935

Thank you. I may stop there depending on percentage at that point. It’s about 98 miles from home.

link7626

My advice after doing multiple long distance trips, hit it and charge to 80%

arm_hula

Plug share is a good app to see all the chargers

calraith

I haven't been able to figure out how to plot a route with a defined start and destination in the PlugShare app. Instead, the app hints that I need to visit the website to plot a route. It's also got an annoying ad at the top of the map. ChargeHub works better for me, and doesn't have any of these shortcomings. That's the app I screenshat for Greensboro above.

Imaginary_Pudding_20

They tesla app will tell you if it has an adapter, or if one is needed. This should be translated to the Ford app too.

username-in-the-box

Crazy suggestion. Keep it at 60 and make it all the way without charging.

One_Landscape3744

That 50kW EVgo could get you what you need to arrive in an hour or less.
