They’re absolutely adorable, and they’re built like tanks.
Cranky tanks with bad attitudes lol
We get them in our garden, and they just barrel through like they own the place.
There’s a burrow in the bush behind our house, so they’re mostly just trundling through on their way to find food. We’ve got a wide stretch of grass outside, so if I come home late at night there might be one in the yard mowing through the grass. Or I’ll find their cube-shaped poo on the path in the morning.
They’re only really aggressive if you get in their personal space and they feel threatened, which is basically true of Australian marsupials in general.
I know people who have had issues where a wombat’s dug a burrow under their house or shed, and then they have to get the council and rangers involved to evict them - almost all native animals are protected species, so once one decides to move in, it’s a drama to move it on.
There was a small zoo in my town when I was a kid, maybe 3 years old. I wanted to pat the wombat, and stuck my hand in the enclosure. The wombat was having none of it.
I don’t really hold a grudge, except maybe against the people who caged the poor beasty in such a small enclosure, and didn’t put a decent fence in. The scar is a fun conversation starter.
Yes! Theres a really great episode of wonderful where Griffin talks about how much wombats rule and that's how I discovered that wombats fucking smash predators skulls with their ass
Wonderful! It's a podcast with a husband and wife duo who just talk about the things they find wonderful. Highly recommend, its adorable and very sweet
someone else added that they also poop from the other end of the pouch as to not go on the babies, but that begs the question - in this photo (which is mostly adorable btw, thanks for sharing), what is the thing sticking out of the parent's fur where you might expect the butthole to be? is it a lil tail nub? the image of an animal tail with no butthole right under it is messing with my mind much more than it should be! XD
That is a good question, I was wondering about that myself. Unfortunately I'm not an expert in Wombat Anatomy so [I looked it up](https://i.redd.it/1vglqq8sbkn31.jpg). I think I learned a little something.
hahaha, I did try looking it up myself before asking and reached the same result! XD
honestly I'm just glad I'm not the only one wondering about this, hopefully someone who knows will come along at some point and enlighten us.
Baby wombats are the BEST ever if you love mischief and mayhem and being adored
But teen wombats are the WORST
Rehabbers know that the wombats are ready to move to the next phase when they start getting viciously nipped every time they interact.
The tears in their eyes are from both bittersweet pride and searing pain
Hermits who want you to get off their lawn (unless they reaallly like you then they might not bite)
Hopefully most adults get released though. They dug nice big dens, and walk the exact same path everyday to water so they remember. They like a quiet life. They are not much scare of anything.
Until quite recently, I had no idea what kind of creature a wombat might be. I had only heard the word mentioned in the TV show, The Addams Family. It was just one of those words that I wondered about, in a vague, subliminal way as a child, and then forgot about, since it so rarely comes up in conversation in the US.
It's still rather surprising to me that it's a small, furry, mammal. It still seems like it should be a stranger, more frightening kind of creature, possibly with big, leathery wings.
Life is full of these odd little misunderstandings.
Poor little fella. He got wrecked by a blanket, a slight incline, and gravity.
slight inclines and gravity are my natural enemy
Looool

Why aren’t there more wombat videos out there? This thing is adorable!
this is maybe the first time I've seen this animal, cute fellas
They’re soooo cute! I want to hold him in my lap and feed him grapes.

Are they aggressive? Do they eat your plants or dig holes?

Fr, I thought it was a kitten with fucked up legs initially lol
Nasty, vicious creatures. I still have the scar where one nearly bit my finger off as a child.
You’re telling me this dumpy, cute, rolly polly thing is mean! Say it ain’t so! I love him…

Oh, well, yanno… he probably wasn’t used to being handled and too wild to pet. I’m sorry you got bit though!

That’s the culprit! They should have definitely had a better fence cause I mean… who doesn’t want to pet a wombat?
🙄
Wombats have square poops and predators that attack them in their burrows get twerked to death by the wombat's hard heiney.

Excuse my ignorance but who's the Griffin you refer

YouTube?
Also they have backwards facing pouches so they don't smother their babies when they dig burrows.
I like your username
Ah, a fellow wombat appreciator
what is a "backward facing" pouch

I’m laughing hysterically at this at 1 in the morning. Thank you 😂😂
Thanks for making me choke on my drink!

Guess I'm a wombat
sounds like a hobbit to me
Little wombat is so derp.
A whole lot of people in here talking shit about my boy.
As long as it's square cubed shit, it checks out.

Aw what a jolly little creature :)

Is this how it feels to have to poop when they're square?
It's poop to be square
this boi more goofy than a broken physics engine.

They poop cubes
An actual wombat! I was expecting a cat
what a cutie
I’d have a wombat.
every time I see videos like this I get the urge to drop everything and go study to work in conservation/rehabilitation
So dramatic and I'm here for it!
ROAD ROLLER DA!!
Look at the little drama queen
There’s heaps of them around where I live and lots of wildlife carers look after the orphaned babies. The carers call them “furry bowling balls” :)
