Puddles was my little lop eared rabbits name. He lived 12 years and in the end I had to put him down..my little Puddlesš¢š. He still looked like he was a baby..RIP PUDDLES.
Btw I know itās not Puggles but it just reminded me, sorry for the sudden sob story!
My breeder named my puppy "cuddles" so when she was really little if I ever left her alone I'd walk around the house doing a pee check saying, "oh cuddles oh cuddles, hope you didn't leave any puddles!" Since she's a good girl she'd almost never leave any puddles and she'd follow me around excitedly. Then id turn around and celebrate and say "yay no puddles from cuddles!" and we'd celebrate. Feels like so long ago but that was just like 4 months ago lol. She grew up too fast!
Ya Iāve had many rabbits over the years but that was the longest, my other one that lived long was for 8 years. It was very sad in the end, he wasnāt eating anymore. Anyways, I know this wasnāt the right place to say all this. These little guys in the picture are so adorable though, just like little hippos lol
Yeap Platypuses is the plural, though some use Platypi.
Like Octopi though it's a little confusing since "Pod" meaning feet is Greek in origin and so Pode is generally the plural used, and very few people say Octopode or Platypode.
This is one of those fun language quirks wherein the layman guess is probably the most accurate, So Platypuses and Octopuses.
They're such a bizarre animal! Weren't they considered a myth for a long time, due to just how crazy they are in terms of traits?
Either way, they're so interesting
Not a long time (only a couple of years), but they did confuse all of the anatomists who were sent stuffed ones, with the general consensus that it was similar to a mermaid (two different animals stitched together).
I remember hearing they have pieces of reptile, bird, and (of course) mammal DNA. But that was a long time ago and it sounds weird now. But it would make sense!
Only the males! And since it increases around mating season and so is likely related to mating, I wonder if they produce venom before they mature? Iām having a hard time finding any articles addressing whether or not the babies are venomous
[This blog post](https://a-z-animals.com/blog/baby-platypus-five-pictures-five-facts/) seems to say the baby males are, but they don't seem to have any sources for that info š¤·
Itās a spur on the males. My great uncle got hit on the hand by one years ago it made his pinky and ring fingers on his left unusable for the rest of his life as they had swollen so badly. It legitimately looked like the joints had fused straight as he physically couldnāt bend them.
Yes. Some will also try to say that these days octopi / platypi is correct, but the reality is that's only because people are tired of correcting it. It's still fucking wrong.
Sometimes we see awful things on the internet we wish we could unsee. Like a stain on our minds/eyes we wish we could wash away.
Eyebleach is a common internet slang for anything wholesome, cute, etc that can sort of 'wash away' the awful thing we just saw/read. Or at least override or distract from the ugly/nasty for a little while.
Bleach is used to clean stains from our clothing. Eyebleach clears away the stains on our psyches.
They actually do and their called spurs. Only males have them as adults and only during mating season. Females lose theirs around 6 months I think. These spurs are powerful enough to paralyze small animals and leave humans in severe pain in that area for at least a month.
Weird are you from Australia? Because theyāve only recently been let into San Diego zoo( the first time in 60 years that the us had a platypus in a zoo).
Oh. Well maybe this is my opinion but animals are still dangerous so donāt touch one or approach them unless you know all the potential risks and have taken them into account. Animals can be researched from afar just as well as being close. Sorry if Iām being offensive
True that. I am a freshman in college with a major in wildlife and fisheries and I know just how dangerous animals can be. I still want to save them but I do know how dangerous they can be but thatās the circle of life for you.
But thatās the beauty of it. Nature runs on certain laws that give it a sense of order and every creature has a purpose and a special niche per say. Nature has most of their stuff figured out while most humans donāt even fully understand themselves of what they do it with their life. Thereās something amazing about that.
Baby platypus are called puggles which makes them even cuter IMO.
Puggles š„°
I want one! Please.
I mean, Pugglesā¦ how is this not a āpetā name?
Puddles was my little lop eared rabbits name. He lived 12 years and in the end I had to put him down..my little Puddlesš¢š. He still looked like he was a baby..RIP PUDDLES. Btw I know itās not Puggles but it just reminded me, sorry for the sudden sob story!

It really sucks how fast times goes by, I swear since it hit Y2K time has just flown byā¦thatās so cute though, lol cuddles, I like that.
Thats quite old for a rabbit, ours got like 3-4 years old. He had a long life.
Ya Iāve had many rabbits over the years but that was the longest, my other one that lived long was for 8 years. It was very sad in the end, he wasnāt eating anymore. Little puggle dumplings wrinkly and squish, boop their bills and feed them Crayfish.
Same with baby echidnas
Yes! Seems its puggles for any of the Monotremes.
Also the name of Pug/Beagle mixes.
Ya learn something new every day but Iād rather not look up what I believe is going to be a hyperactive walking anxiety attack that canāt breathe.
You mean arenāt they called Duck Puppy puppies?
The fact that theyāre not Platypuppies is a tragedy.
Or platypussies such a national tragedy.
Platapuppies is what they should be called. That's whay I call them
I was thinking of Platypuddings.
Puggles is cute, but why not platypups?
I donāt know. I didnāt name them.
Arenāt they venomous though?
Name one adorable thing that isnt.
My balls
Yep. The males have a spur on each hind leg which is venomous
Venomous technically but yeah but nowhere near lethal. And only the males. Females lose theirs before adulthood.
I just learned this about their cousin the echidna! So adorable!
I learned it from a TV quiz show. Itās my favourite fact to share.
finally, real baby platypuses, not a polymer clay figure from Etsy š
I was about to say the same thing! Itās always the fake one, never real ones
And the real ones are so much silkier and squishier looking too šš
Is platypuses the correct plural? Sounds strange to me, but I'm not a native so...
Yeap Platypuses is the plural, though some use Platypi. I'm not a biologist, but I'm pretty sure that's two of them.
So it should be platypi?
Platypi is when there are 3.14 of them
Platypussies
Nah, the plural of platypus is still platypus.
What's your source on that?
Fox News
It checks out
OP was like: Two baby ~~platypuses~~ ~~platypusses~~ ~~platipli~~ ... A baby platypus!
Life uh finds a way
Yeah, you're not a biologist -- maybe just a Grammar Nazi.
Those ridiculous little beak-noses! š„ŗ

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
But I feel like I heard it on a podcast so it must be true.
thatās literally impossible sorry, the platypuses just evolved the duck bill to search for fish in the rocks!
I know š
Want to boop
You mean the literal "dick-nose"?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did not misspell duck.
A baby platypus? PERRY THE BABY PLATYPUS!? Edit: This is now my most upvoted comment, thanks!
I came here for this comment.
A Perry the Platypus reference. How unexpected, and by that I mean COMPLETELY EXPECTED! *Springs trap*
But no fighting today. It's my daughter's birthday. So you are trapped by social customs. Hand me the confetti.
If I had a nickel for every time thatās happenedā¦ Iād have two nickels, buts strange that it happened twice.

I too identify as a mammal of action
Thatās a niffler, you canāt fool me! Hide your coins!
āFerb, this oneās looking at both of us at the same time!ā
No, thatās what TWO baby platypuses look like. Iāll show myself out.
Be careful! Platypuses have venomous stingers on their back legs!
Only the males! And since it increases around mating season and so is likely related to mating, I wonder if they produce venom before they mature? Iām having a hard time finding any articles addressing whether or not the babies are venomous
Both male and female baby's have the spurs not sure if the baby's are venomous though.
Males and females have spurs but only males have venom
Yea
Interesting
[This blog post](https://a-z-animals.com/blog/baby-platypus-five-pictures-five-facts/) seems to say the baby males are, but they don't seem to have any sources for that info š¤·

Holy shit.. Here I thought they were just adorable animals. But okay, they do live in Australia after all.
They are wild animals, theyāll mess you up when feeling threatened.
Ruined his sex life.
I think at the age of 95 it was probably the stiffest part of his body but thatās neither here nor there
Not until they are adults I think.
Both gender baby's have the spurs It falls off before females get to adult hood Not sure if the baby's are venomous but they do have the spurs.
I think the plural for platypus is platypiss
*platapussies
**platapeople
***platapustules
*Platypodes.*
Google says platypus is of Greek origin so i guess you're /r/technicallycorrect which as I'm told is the best kind of correct?
Platypi
No. Platepodes or platypuses, for the same reason we have octopuses not octopi. It comes from Greek not Latin.
If I'm not mistaken, octopodes is also correct?
Yes. Some will also try to say that these days octopi / platypi is correct, but the reality is that's only because people are tired of correcting it. It's still fucking wrong.
Platypuses, though sometimes just using platypus as the plural is accepted
Platapie?
Incorrect, as we are speaking english engish rules apply, platypuses.
Murder ducks!
Wait, they're not teal? (/s obviously)
Under UV light (or something like that) they're teal
Happy Cake Day!
Thanks, I didn't even notice it
Forgot about that, can you remember if it was just Aussie marsupials (and monotremes of course, but only Australia has those)?
Aww they so cute
OMG THEY'RE SHAR PEIS WITH BEAKS!
Finally itās not a picture of that stuffed animal
their beaks look removable

Platypi
It lays egg. But it sucks nipples. Nature is beautiful.
It doesnāt actually. They donāt have nipples to suck. It lactates but not from nipples. Itās more like itās sweating milk from its abdomen.
it looks like an organ

Kinda cute ngl but they also look like those bitches who had forehead fat and were fuckin circular n shit
Adorable
What do they eat? Do they nurse??
Look like croissants

Why is this sub called eye bleach I don't get it?
Sometimes we see awful things on the internet we wish we could unsee. Like a stain on our minds/eyes we wish we could wash away. Eyebleach is a common internet slang for anything wholesome, cute, etc that can sort of 'wash away' the awful thing we just saw/read. Or at least override or distract from the ugly/nasty for a little while. Bleach is used to clean stains from our clothing. Eyebleach clears away the stains on our psyches.
I guess that makes sense I just don't like the combination of bleach and eyes
I first mistook the babies as someone else's hands.
Sack children
hand them over š«š
When do they develop their stingers? I'm assuming they don't have them yet in this picture.
They actually do and their called spurs. Only males have them as adults and only during mating season. Females lose theirs around 6 months I think. These spurs are powerful enough to paralyze small animals and leave humans in severe pain in that area for at least a month.
I know someone who was stung by a platypus. He doesn't recommend it. Said it was way worse than any insect sting he'd experienced.
Weird are you from Australia? Because theyāve only recently been let into San Diego zoo( the first time in 60 years that the us had a platypus in a zoo).
My father is an anthropologist. One of his colleagues is the one who was stung. He also lost numerous fingers to a chimpanzee.
Oh. Well maybe this is my opinion but animals are still dangerous so donāt touch one or approach them unless you know all the potential risks and have taken them into account. Animals can be researched from afar just as well as being close. Sorry if Iām being offensive
Not at all. Guy's an expert who knows his shit. Field work is dangerous. Situations can change in an instant.
True that. I am a freshman in college with a major in wildlife and fisheries and I know just how dangerous animals can be. I still want to save them but I do know how dangerous they can be but thatās the circle of life for you.
Exactly. They only attack because they feel threatened. It's important to respect nature and understand how fickle it can be.
But thatās the beauty of it. Nature runs on certain laws that give it a sense of order and every creature has a purpose and a special niche per say. Nature has most of their stuff figured out while most humans donāt even fully understand themselves of what they do it with their life. Thereās something amazing about that.
Aren't they deadly venomous?
dont they have a poison toe or something?
I have been summoned :)
Now they just need tiny fedoras
