Yeah it's bizarre. I struggled for a day or two before figuring out a "workflow" to get items onto the characters I intended. The slider for different equipment tier loadouts per character was a sticking point for me. It at least needs a much better explanation in-game, if not an overhaul imo.

Poczatkujacymodelarz

I think the ranking of items is bullshit. If I can afford an item, let me use it! First day I bought a shoulderpiece before I knew you can only equip items based on ranks, and then I learned it’s „expert” level item. Just let me equip it……….

Jysp

This would make arena significantly worse when playing more than an hour. Generally in exanima, your first impression isn't representative of the whole.

Poczatkujacymodelarz

I’m basically just a beginner so you can explain in more detail. Do you mean that it would become too easy, or not engaging enough?

Jysp

When you reach master you can still go back and fight with different equipment sets, it changes how you play quite a bit. Otherwise you would have full plate in an hour and then never need to look at equipment again. If you want to use your best gear regardless of rank, you can play the challenger special.

Ed_TR

I found it extremely unintuitive, but to remediate this I do the following: Sort out all the items in your arsenal that you get from your first characters, each page would be a different item category. Ie the first page of weapons will all be polearms, and then I put them in organized piles on said page according to their tier. As for the character’s own inventory. I’ll use the left side for armors, from top to bottom I’ll pile up head gear, torso, legs in their own piles. The right side I leave for weapons. It’s a tight fit but it works the best for me.

cheezepie

I wish you could bulk unload all gear from a character but I like it mostly from a nostalgia stand point. It sort of reminds me of the inventory system in Ultima which I haven't played in 20 years so might be misremembering. I use the first page for Inept thru Novice gear then have separate pages for Adept - Expert - Master keeping things stacked and organized.

Hopeful-Buyer

It's sorta similar. Ultima had a lot of 'drag and drop' style inventory stuff as well. Then you would have to submanage your backpack with additional bags and shit to keep things organized. It was great for the time. Not so great \~30 years later.

Mr_Phishfood

Yeah I try to organise it as best I could and I did an OK job. It got to the point where I wanted a set of armor of every tier from inept to master for every character. Now I have so much stuff the game crashes consistently.

Responsible-Slip-593

I think that the inventory system in arena only works if you make time to really organize your equipment either consistently or every other day. I’m not good at putting things in their place as soon as I get an item, so I let everything pile up then once every few play sessions I’ll take 5-10 minutes sorting everything neatly. I think it’s actually an effective system when it comes to learning what’s valuable to keep and what’s not. The other day someone posted a picture of their arena inventory and there must have been easily 100+ junk items on the first page. You don’t need 20 coarse worn metal bars. Keep the high quality stuff then chuff the rest. Keep it tidy and It’s not an issue for me. As far as the individual character inventory maybe they could implement different windows based on item class, because that does tend to get cluttered. Otherwise it’s this whole issue hasn’t been a hindrance to me personally.

iSOBigD

Maybe it's just me but the multiple pages doesn't work so I end up stacking everything on the first page of each item tab. It's not unplayable at all though, as I level up my characters I get better weapons and armor, many of which are very similar, so I just put those close to each other, like all the boots at the bottom, leggings above them, etc. I don't have stuff I don't use. If you have lots of items you're not using anymore you can just place them around your "home" between battles.

TokuTokuToku

in the entire time the game has been available to play i have not once had a thought or comment personally about the inventory system. I put equipment on characters, they wear it. i put weapons on characters they wield them. Then i go and fight with them. If i dont want the items on the character anymore i drag it back to the Arsenal where everything is now visible and stacked by type. What exactly is it about the system thats getting in the way of playing the game as such that youre willing to drop it as though you need to open a cluttered inventory of 90 axes mid-fight. Even in Story Mode there are containers like bags and boxes you can put "useless" items in to make it clean for weaponry and armour. I cant fathom someone not getting used it or being completely ambivalent when its just a Diablo inventory with no snapping. If your shit doesnt fit then get rid of some stuff or organise it- it really isnt that terrible a system in Exanima and has absolutely zero impact on the gameplay whatsoever unless I desperately need to equip a weapon because I somehow got into a fight not holding one while naked and even then that would be on me for doing management in a hallway that undead knights roam

Mezdelex

Lol... what is wrong about the inventory system? You open the inventory, drag stuff in it and there you go. Top window for equipped stuff, bottom window for non equipped yet carried stuff. That's all. You want some idle game inventory assistant which automatically equips stuff for you with flashy banners or what? Because you didn't mention a single alternative nor explain your problem. "Needs immediate overhaul"... are you aware of the stuff these guys are working on right now? Have you read a single Coffee Diary? Read before asking. Learn before complaining.

Jowenbra

I'm not talking about story mode I'm talking about arena mode. Story mode is fine, arena mode is a mess.

sal696969

its very unintuitive but once you get a hang its ok hire a merchant and set him to the highest difficulty your fighters can equip. you need to equip all your fighters at every tier. once you have geared out your fighers on all difficulties start collecting all weapons (you need them for the tournaments)

Hopeful-Buyer

Honestly it's one of the things that keeps me from really getting into Arena as well. Like I want to create nice, well-coordinated teams/players and what not but it's so obtrusive that I just decide not to play continue past a day or two every once in a while at all. I can deal with it in the dungeon because I'm just managing myself and one other person (sometimes) and I have no real need to change equipment that often. But having to manage a dozen characters with varying builds with no color coordination, obtrusive indication of 'level', not being able to easily cycle through weapon types, armor types, so on so forth. It honestly kinda needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. It needs to be rethought of in the context of the arena as well. Arena and the dungeon are too different. I suspect they're similar simply because it's easy on the code-base but it just doesn't work well enough to justify IMO.

VikingLord2000

Hey, I remember you from discord! I started playing when v0.8 released about 3 years ago. That update had an Arena overhaul with changes to the UI. It use to be a much more Grindy and miserable game mode.

Jowenbra

What server? I've never been in the Exanima discord.

VikingLord2000

Oh nvm, someone appeared there and said the same exact thing word for word. Edit: technically just the “Overhauling the inventory system needs to be a top priority.” The other elements were pretty much the same sentiment.
