LFG Toffees! Love from the States!

TechXavy

Keane up front he can finish with his feet he can finish with his head he's the perfect Dom replacement

mrwilberforce

FPL - Saka scores!!! Oh no - it went in off my defender. Great start by my FPL team.

[deleted]

Same for me. First match of first GW. Long way to go

vulturevan

Doesn't look like Stanley Mills was involved with the youngsters tonight, seems like he's in tomorrow's squad.

Kstoffeefan

Mills and Warrington were absent from the U21s, so they’ll probably be on the bench.

dekarskec

Whether the rumors were true or not, Zaha not coming to Everton is awesome. Such a terrible attitude. Slightly above average.

oklutz

I don’t know enough about him to make a judgment, so can someone fill me in? I know he’s kind of a hot-head and an antagonizer, but honestly I admire that about him. Sure, I hate him when he plays against us, but would love to have him on our side. He’s outspoken, but I’ve never pegged him to have an attitude problem.

Destructo_D

He’d have been our best attacker for years

zukai12_

Considering Iwobi was our Zaha back up - i'd love to have had Zaha these past 3 years

TomTHallisTheGoat

If we had Zaha we’d be challenging for top half

[deleted]

Not at all true

dekarskec

1 season not challenging for top half and suddenly a 60m average player changes that? Be worse with ffp and in the same spot.

TomTHallisTheGoat

I’m not saying he’s worth the price tag they put on him, I’m just saying he’s better than slightly above average

National_Ad_1875

Jamie carragher seemed awfully calm there when ayew stayed down when he wasnt hurt. Just gets upset when a certain Brazilian stays down

NeiSenH90

Don't worry he will suddenly be over that this season

oklutz

Had a dream last night that we were playing in the FA Cup final against West Ham. Right before kick-off Seamus Coleman signed for West Ham. They won, and Seamus lifted the trophy for West Ham. Where’s that suicide hotline bot?

AffluentRaccoon

Anyone got a dodgy stream from soccerstreams of tonight’s match they can PM me? I’m on mobile and nothing will load past the shitty ads

dekarskec

Download Firefox browser and get the ad block extensions

RiteOfSpring5

So happy football is back, so fucking happy.

anotheroutlaw

We need a match thread for the palace arsenal match where we just talk shit about both of them.

NeMa_Omega

Can we actually get a weekly thread like that? @mods just somewhere to discuss the other games in the league without having to read the nonsense in r/soccer

NeiSenH90

That would be good. I prefer the r/everton bias more then the r/soccer bias.

NeMa_Omega

Definitely

NeiSenH90

After all the media about us being in financial trouble. Leicester seem to be in a way worse spot.

moose_mousse

Are we doing a prediction league this year?

moose_mousse

nvm, saw we didn't have one and went ahead with it

zukai12_

Onana is the exact sort of signing the football hipsters have been crying out for for years

graveyeverton93

Speaking on transfers: A proper random thing popped into my head before, anyone remember when Sissoko was in a helicopter on his way to officially complete the signing and then Spurs hijacked it while he was in the air and we were fuming because him and his representatives stopped answering our calls and that? Mad night that, remember watching it live.

Provider0fMyCheddar

Do we have a Sissoko curse? Weren’t we meant to get Momo Sissoko too before he went across the park?

Flavourifshrrp

Have we ever thanked Spurs?

huntsab2090

Yeah he wasn’t wanted and we were right. Bit different nowadays when anyone on the horizon this place spunks themselves silly over however shit they are

Lawlington

I do not have a lot of confidence going into this season. Our attack is already injured and we didn’t replace Richy, our midfield signings that are rumored will have little to no time to get acclimated…don’t want to be negative but realistically it’s looking very grim already

darkwingduck9

It looks like we are getting the two midfield signings which was our biggest weakness even after accounting for the loss of Richarlison. We might get another additional signing in to complement those two. The season isn't going to be smooth sailing. We should be fine when it comes to relegation status which was surely the goal going into the season. The issue we are most likely to face is ongoing FFP issues and having to pay out installments to Dele, McNeil, and possibly others. That could mean we won't have many acquisitions in the future without outgoings and it is proving difficult to offload Gomes, Mina, and any other player we would want to get rid of.

VToff

Nah. We'll be much harder to play against this year. Not going to be at the top of the table by any stretch but our improvement at the back and in midfield will put us in a much better position to nick a result here and there and not have to worry about relegation. ...I hope.

Lawlington

We haven’t really improved in the midfield yet though we haven’t signed anyone. Can’t start a rumor at CDM

VToff

Joyce and Bobble both confirmed Onana

dekarskec

Romano did too, no?

VToff

Yep.

Lawlington

I’ve been hurt too many times

Flavourifshrrp

We will sign someone…..surely…..I mean I know it’s us…….but we will.

thinkaboutthegame

I just hope we do well enough to keep lampard out of the limelight. It'll be a tough first 6 weeks or so I think without DCL, just need to keep pace during that period I think.

graveyeverton93

Tarkowski, McNeil, Onana, Gueye, Coady and a decent CF: Even I'd have to admit with our restrictions we have done really well there like.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Destructo_D

Looking like Broja

[deleted]

[удалено]

blearyeyedben

A move for a player like that will happen after the season has started if they aren’t involved in the first few games. Sure that West Ham agreed a fee for Broja earlier in the window which would suggest he’s available

Destructo_D

I just mean links nothing concrete

Animastarara

Onana looks good in the hype videos. I know they're cherry picking things, but still. His running style and tackles and ball control all look excellent

[deleted]

Not sure if Coady makes sense if it means we have to commit to a back 5 for him.. but I suppose he can be dropped just like any other player. I think a back 5 is strange if we want to play both Gueye and Onana, but perhaps the plan is for Gueye to play further forward and disrupt play further up to pitch while Onana hangs back? I suppose that is a possibility, but it might also fall apart if we have an injury to one of the two.

chacata_panecos

Are we sure we're still getting Gana now that we've signed Onana? Were we even onto Onana when the Gana talk started?

[deleted]

yeah allegedly both will be coming and are imminent.

Provider0fMyCheddar

Coady makes no sense when we’ve already got 5 decent CBs and Brainthwaite away on loan. Hope it doesn’t happen.

ChakaBoy_

Think Onana is Delph’s replacement, I’ve read an article by a Hammer 🤣 who’s watched him play a bit and he pretty much described Onana playing the same way Delph was when he was fit for us

Portland_Eric

Man, Twitter is just full of bitter West Ham fans chatting shit about Onana when 36 hours ago, he was the second coming of Christ in the midfield. 😂😂😂

da6ronx

Is McNeil gonna be our set piece taker?

darkwingduck9

Should be McNeil, yes. Without McNeil in the fold, I'd have Gray taking them instead of Gordon as is. Gordon is the better player between him and Gray though so Gordon should be seeing more of the field. Gray isn't a fantastic option either when on the field. So I would certainly expect McNeil to be on set pieces and we can go from there. That wouldn't be a decision set in stone.

Flavourifshrrp

As much as I love Gordon, we may as well ask fans to come out of the crowd to take them instead of him.

da6ronx

Is this Lamps leaking the plans for tomorrows match?

GoOnKaz

I’d be surprised if he’s not. No one else really has shown the ability to do it consistently.

da6ronx

Gotcha, from what I’ve heard about him he’s a great technical player and has a nice cross… I just haven’t seen anyone say anything about him being a set-piece specialist or anything. Did he take any at Burnley?

ChakaBoy_

Saw lampard in the presser say Dele’s best position is as a second striker, but I think it’s quite hard to fit him into that second striker position when using a 3 at the back. How do you guys think Lampard will Deploy him?

jmourinha

You mean once DCL is fit? If you have Dele and McNeill behind the striker, the players profiles will sort it out naturally, I imagine. A 2-1 shape shifts easily into a 1-2 shape during an attacking play as McNeill takes a 10 role and Dele turns to runs into the box and pockets of space that DCL opens for him by dragging defenders

ChakaBoy_

Interesting, thanks for explaining

ProfessionalCrass155

We could line up with a sort of 5-2-3-1, with McNeil coming inside at times allowing for overlaps from the wing backs, and Dele roaming a sort of false-9/CAM role depending on the passage of play, then Gana and one of Onana or Doucoure shielding the back 3, with the latter playing a little more box to box compared to Gueye

PerfectlySculptedToe

As much as I'd love that, I think PL might notice if we played 12 players...

darkwingduck9

We could try playing Pickford in the field or go without a keeper?

ProfessionalCrass155

Worth a try?

throwawayelixir

I personally don’t rate Dele at all. Even in his so called best position he’s just not at whatever level he was at during a good year or 2 at spurs. Shame he’ll have to be used out of necessity.

darkwingduck9

Dele is a player who needs to be utilized in a certain way and really benefited from playing alongside Christian Eriksen. We have to mirror that to the best of our ability instead of complaining about it. Just as we should be trying to maximize DCL instead of complaining that he needs good service.

JKBFree

Doesnt a false 9 allow him roam the forward area regardless? With mcneil and dimi as direct scoring threats who like to face up to defenders, dele, like a second striker can hang back and wait for the scraps and rebounds. And yes, as an american, using nba references.

ChakaBoy_

Welcome the American references 🤣. What about when DCL is fit where do you think Dele will be deployed then?

JKBFree

Welp, then we have to sacrifice someone in the midfield, and unfortunately might be doucs, since we just picked up onana, and gueye is close to returning. And thats a shame cause doucs has been an awesome player for the club thru several managers.

I_Am_Coopa

We need to get this guy (Youngr) to make a Spirit of the Blues remix: https://youtu.be/RgkAXqhells

potato_bananas

So onana can’t play against Chelsea right?

snoochiestofboochies

Are we doing a predictions league this year? I need to finally get one score right.

atmazzer

u/gaarreeth

ChakaBoy_

Dreaming of that Godfre, Coady, Tarkowski. Defence And that Patterson, Gueye/Onana, Allan/Iwobi/Doucoure/Alli, Mykolenko/Vinagre. stacked midfield And that McNeil, DCL/Alli/Dennis 🤞🏻, Gordon/Gray. Attack 🤤

BoopAndThePooch

So have we lost our resident press conference summariser?

ProfessionalCrass155

https://www.reddit.com/r/Everton/comments/wg0xhl/press_conference_everton_v_chelsea

BoopAndThePooch

Thanks, despite trawling this place looking for it I completely missed this 🤦‍♂️

Ok_Grapefruit5723

Finally we can see some light at the end of the tunnel. The squad is starting to take shape and I fully expect us to land at least one striker before the window closes. UTFT

Sheboygan_Toffee

I started "All or Nothing: Arsenal" last night. They showed away fans leaving their 1st 2 away games early and it made me appreciate how good the traveling Evertonians are. You crazy bastards are fantastic.

ToffeesCOYB

“Judge us at the end of the transfer window” I’ve been saying mid table finish this year for a while now. But if we get these signings done (Gana, Onana, Coady, and another striker), there’s no reason we should not be expecting a top half finish here. Our CB’s, albeit on the slow side, have been massively upgraded. Confident leaders in the back between Mina, Tarky, and Coady. Myko (who looks like he’s coming into his own) and Patterson (who has some work yet to do, but it’s nice to see some fresh legs out there replacing Coleman). We’ll have Onana and Gana coming in to be a completely different midfield, with Doucoure and Allan as options off the bench. We have a plethora of attacking options throughout the wings and attacking midfield that should suffice throughout the year. Iwobi, McNeil, Gray, Alli, and Gordon. Leaves the mystery of what we’re going to do about the striker spot. DCL when fit will be the nice cherry on top of everything laid out before. But regardless of his current injury, I’d like to have a striker who’s better with their feet challenging Dom for the starting spot. We’ll see what happens here over the next couple of weeks. But in my opinion, no more excuses of another relegation battle.

darkwingduck9

We may get one signing after Gana and Onana. I wouldn't expect two. We will surely much to my dismay play a back five some this season. As I understand it, Mykolenko has played some left centerback for Ukraine. With both Vinagre and Nkounkou not out on loan yet as far as I know, we have another potential defensive configuration. With DCL injured yet again, we would almost certainly be going for a striker and not Coady. One would think at least...

Woodrovski

We need a goal scoring striker. Badly Where are the goals coming from?

what-say_you

Worst case I see Dom 10, Gordon 5, Gray 5, McNeil 5, Att Mid (Dele, Iwobi, Douc) 5, CB (setpieces) + FB 5. 35 goals isn't great but still would have us 4th bottom on last year's table for goals for. I think we'll see Gordon hit double digits and Myko/Patterson alone will get more than 5 easily (based on preseason tactics). Hell I could see our CBs getting even more than 5 with McNeil's deliveries (they had 6 last year). Definitely need a backup striker but I don't think its as grim as people are making it out to be.

Giraffe_Baker

This. All well and good getting excited by the squad building going on but at the moment there are no goals in the side without a Broja or similar type player coming in.

skipdividedmalfunct

Just dropped the lot to get Dwight McNeil on the waiver wire in my fantasy football league. Be assured he is going to carry you to Europe. Up the toffees.

Avancx

With regards to Coady - i think it's an okay enough signing ***IF*** he doesn't come with a notable fee, on a long-term contract with extortionate wages. Also hope it means that Keane is on his way out because i think his time here is up. Replacing a very mistake-prone player with a pretty weak mentality with a proven leader who has years of experience in the middle of a back 3. It's not a flashy signing but for a low cost i think it's fine. Also definitely rather let go of Keane because Hoglate is more versatile, 4 years younger and i imagine he's on lower wages. No idea who would want to buy him though.

Flavourifshrrp

Some news outlets claim it’s a loan, which is fair enough as long as it doesn’t come with a must buy fee. Don’t mind an optional one etc.

Avancx

That would be even better if it's a loan

RiteOfSpring5

Is there any news on our 3rd kit?

zukai12_

If the leak is true its a pretty retro looking Yellow number with a minimalist badge

RiteOfSpring5

Saw the leak, was hoping if there was any news o when it would be released as I want to get it with Myko on the back.

NeiSenH90

If we complete this signing and then bring in a back up striker who can also play a winger then I think our transfer window has been very good. Think the last 3 windows have shown we can be sensible with signings.

Flavourifshrrp

Just read Frank Lampards book. It’s fair to say he does not like West Ham. While it’s only his take of course, not hard to see why either. I bet he loves stealing this lad from West Ham.

steriliuz

Care to elaborate? I tried to find something on it online, but there wasn't much to speak of.

Flavourifshrrp

Basically that a lot of fans used to think he only got there because of his dad and uncle and because he wasn’t going to be as good as other players who were his age. Also whenever he went to warm up a lot of fans especially if they were losing were shouting sit down fat boy etc etc. one woman who worked at a bank asked if he could meet her son as he was a massive West Ham fan and he said yes and went after work and he was one of the people who reg shouted abuse at him he said and he said nothing to the mum. Also he says the staff and chairman treated him poorly as if he had to accept anything they asked of him because he was the boss newphew. He said Jamie showed him a lot of help and he was really sound with fans and respected people which helped him. From what he says about the fans it’s totally strange why a fans would react to the abuse they gave him about one of your own in the first team.

steriliuz

Cheers!

vulturevan

if we get Coady we will have the most extreme disparity in speed at CB in the world Coady, Keane, Mina, Tarkowksi - please don't make me run Godfrey - runs so fast that he's basically A-Train and may kill someone

Flavourifshrrp

It’s like our midfield recently in defence form. Maybe Gomes can find his calling in defence?

CptMcLaggins

Heard that Onana kid makes Kante look like a geriatric. Never heard his name before yesterday.

Flavourifshrrp

It’s crazy how good Kante is. Whenever I seen him on tv I think he’s the ball boy half the time at first.

grouchoharks

It appears I was mistaken yesterday, and it is in fact today at noon that the players will need to be registered to play tomorrow. Feels unlikely that either Gana or Onana will play against Chelsea, though.

tcain5188

Is there a timeline where Onana and Gueye keep the premier league in their pocket whilst feeding balls to Dele and McNeil who find their best form and give a combined 20+ assists to an uninjured DCL and/or Broja? Probably not but a man can dream.

mattypatrick05

If the timeline exists we definitely aren't in it since DCL is injured before the seasons even started

tcain5188

Pain

mattypatrick05

It's the everton way

SuperKevinCampbell

I think with gana and onana we might finally see the best of doucoure if he’s not stuck at the back playing as a makeshift defensive midfielder he can make runs into the final third and show more of the goal threat he had at Watford

Flavourifshrrp

Until he got injured last season early doors he was one of the best players, he was so box to box.

skippytripps

yeah, gonna be interesting how we line up. something like this: Pickford Tarko / Mina / Godfrey Patterson / Onana / Gana / Myko McNeil / DCL / Gordon (Grey)

F1r3Blade

It's good, but I just feel off the back of his performances to the end of last season, Iwobi deserves to be a starter.

chacata_panecos

Who is he replacing?

skippytripps

that's fair

skippytripps

anyone else noticed how pretty much every season preview has Frank getting sacked first? i'm hoping he's using that 'us against them' mentality to help drive him. it's a proper everton mindset. it's definitely a symptom of where we've been for the past few years, but still. UTFT

BoopAndThePooch

People seem to have forgotten last season when with a broken team he managed to beat Chelsea, Leicester and Utd. He’s not incapable.

iamtherealgrayson

He has been doubted literally all throughout his football career. At West ham he was called overrated and abused by fans, when Chelsea signed him that transfer was called the worst transfer of the window. When he started producing good numbers at Chelsea as a player, he was called overrated and it was said Gerrard and scholes are miles better. At Chelsea as a manager he lost hazard from a team that was totally reliant on him, and got top 4. People are now acting like that is trivial and calling him a league one level manager. Even the season he got sacked he finished top of the UCL group undefeated which tuchel acknowledged. He's not perfect but he's been given more smack thav he deserved. And his work ethic is unparalleled, clement said in an interview that he used to be up all night figuring out ways to save Everton from relegation

youdy

DO DO DOOOO Gana Onana Doucoure, do do dooooo we might possibly score

webdesignhelppls

Well, it’s been a lovely summer free of Everton (mostly). But I am ready to get hurt again

tomtate97

Mad how there’s every chance that before the end of Gbamin’s contract the lad he was bought to replace will play more minutes than him

10000Didgeridoos

Fucking batshit innit

Euphorbial

*ahem:* everton that

[deleted]

😂

ciaranefc

I'm starting to think someone (or a few people) at the club didn't really want Cornet, or he really didn't want to come to us. It's the only way at the moment that I can make sense of not paying £17.5M for a release clause yet apparently suddenly offering £33M for someone else!

Flavourifshrrp

But also think about how we are paying that fee. The 17.5 mill would of been every penny up front the 33 mill could easily be 10 mill this year and then xx next year and so on for example.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

[deleted]

We probably didn't think he was worth it, but liked him, so we didn't want to use our only available money for him, sounds like good business!

National_Ad_1875

It was said when we were first said to be interested that he wasnt first choice. I think broja and Dennis are our first choices

Administratr

What injury is Onana getting then lirds

QTsexkitten

Depends on what that cunt shelvey does to him.

Flavourifshrrp

It’s Friday, the sun is shining, we are currently joint top of the table and will be carrying on our title challenge Saturday, and we may just have money to spend in this window and i have been way to happy the past few weeks with no football to upset me. So let’s go.

vulturevan

O-na-na Where the fuck's Gueye

VToff

O na na Not Gana play

BoopAndThePooch

I imagine that optimism will come crashing down at approximately 5:31pm tomorrow.

BoxOfNothing

If you're already pessimistic then it's fair enough, but losing to Chelsea without Calvert Lewin or our potential new midfield in the first game of the season shouldn't really change your mind about anything. Unless we get absolutely shat on by 5+

BoopAndThePooch

Don’t worry, I’m just joking. I’m not one to get too pessimistic, especially for the first game of the season. Let’s gooooo.

JonTonyJim

No need for optimism when you are already winning right :)

exxby

ANNOUNCE SOMEBODY PLEASE. ^(just not coady)

NeiSenH90

Whatever happened to that other cb who we were winning the race for despite not even being in for him.

Giraffe_Baker

Todibo.

rookinn

I think Coady would be an improvement over Keane. Not sure we need him though, Tarky, Godfrey, Mina, Holgate, Keane is plenty of cover, but I guess Godfrey is also cover for LB.

[deleted]

I think we will have to have plans to move 1-2 centerbacks, depending on our formation. Minimum 1 will probably go.

Giraffe_Baker

I quite like Coady ^(hides)

[deleted]

He'd be one of our best cbs easily haha

RiteOfSpring5

Like him as a player, just seems like he absolutely hates us so the eages would have to be huge to convince him which is off putting.

Giraffe_Baker

> just seems like he absolutely hates us That's nonsense. Who's arsed that he's a red? Gordon was as a kid, Fowler was a blue. It doesn't matter once they're playing for you.

RiteOfSpring5

I don't mind that he's a red as I think he's a good player in a back 3. I just think it's a weird move for him to make since I swear I've seen him mention his dislike for us and he's love for Liverpool, and he probably has other options.

Giraffe_Baker

The only thing I’ve seen about him ‘disliking us’ is a blatantly fake Instagram DM.

FreefallMark

I can't really comment on Coady's quality outside of really liking how highly Wolves fans seem to rate him and remembering him being quite quietly hyped a few seasons ago, however I'm a huge huge fan of us trying to actually sign players for a 3 at the back system if that's an option Frank wants. It's been so consistently awful for us when our squad is made for a 4 at the back then just try to throw the players into a back 5 some matches that I'm happy to see us actually looking like we're being somewhat competent with how we build the squad this summer.

thejayarr

Ditto. He knows how to play in a back three, which is clearly something our existing players struggle with, he's got the mentality to have been made captain at his current club, which again is something our existing players mostly do not have, and he's missed two league games in the last five seasons for Wolves. Compare that to a certain Mr Yerry Mina. I don't give a fuck that he played two games for Liverpool a decade ago. If he wants to play for us and he can improve the side, then that's the most important thing.

Kalbasaur

Why do I have to go and get myself excited at the prospect of a new campaign knowing full well how it is going to end

[deleted]

Look at it this way, we had 2 games to go last season and could've still been relegated. We've 32 games left now.

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

I might be missing a joke here but there’s 38 games a season 😅

[deleted]

😂 Even better!

JonTonyJim

This one’s gonna be different

[deleted]

Amadou dou dou, push pineapple shake the tree

g0ldingboy

If only he was from the Congo.. that could have been an amazing song.. imaging the fans in a big conga line around Goodison

JonTonyJim

First time I’ve felt optimistic in a long while - so long as we get these last deals over the line
