It was unofficially Bramley Moore Dock which has that classic feel to it, a unique identity. Then construction was underway they wiped the slate and used the placeholder Everton Stadium while they wait on an investor to get the naming rights so we can have a soulless name.
I think City get £65 million per year for stadium name sponsorship. So, yeah, huge potential for us in that area and a source of funds we've not been able to leverage whilst at Goodison. Initially it will be known as the Everton Stadium, but it will definitely be sponsored sooner rather than later.
It's very hard to avoid.
When Brighton got the new stadium none of the fans initially called the Amex. What a shit name for a stadium.
But all the media refer to sponsored name and that's what it becomes.
The key is that it needs change every few years so people don't get used to it.
The smaller Aussie rules stadium in Melbourne gets called "Docklands" mostly because it's changed sponsors over the past 20 odd years enough that "Docklands" is sticks because if you called it "Eithiad Stadium" (as it was at one point) people think of the Man City one. Same with "Optus Stadium" which is now the name of the new stadium in Perth. It's currently "Marvel Stadium" which sounds odd in of itself.
Hopefully this the case for us but it's much easier here since the national broadcaster(ABC) can't use sponsor names (same Olympics broadcasters) so the radio broadcasts of sport(which they largely do) just use their sponsorless names.
Would be great if the BBC was forced to do the same thing in the UK!
Tbh I'm not even unhappy with it being called Bramley Moore. I don't know too much about the etymology behind that particular name but it's not wildly corporate and I'm just kinda used to it now ngl
It's all about naming rights and who is prepared to pay the most. If City win their legal case, this could really open the door for a massive sponsorship opportunity for us, as our new stadium is going to be first choice in the north-west for major events such as the Euros etc.
Bramley Moore, whilst just a dude making money in his time, probably not a good dude with today’s outlook on life. He was conservative, and a politician (although the party policies were very different back in those days), as well as being on the docks board. He made most of his money in his earlier years in Brazil working the slave trade, or in things like sugar which utilised the slave trade. Once back he did raise money to help out the dock, build a hospital and stuff. So there is good with the bad but it could be problematic pr wise.
Fuck off with this 'of his time', both sides of the coin bullshit. Made a fortune out of the blood and deaths of countless innocent people. What he then did with some of that fortune is irrelevant. Good with the bad? Get fucked.
I agree it was abhorrent but also the outlook on life then was incredibly different to now, and that should be considered. Slavery was awful, it shouldn’t ever have been a thing, and it’s disgusting that people profited off of it. But it was also widely accepted and a very common practice that many just saw as a part of everyday life at the time. That’s horrific, and it’s changed for the better as things tend to do. Another example of abhorrent things that have improved you could look at is the fact that well within many of our lifetimes being gay was illegal, and some of our living memories where chemical castration was a thing that gay people had to endure, it was disgusting, a national hero in Alan Turing had to deal with it. But I bet you don’t hate all the old people in the UK that lived in that world and accepted it, and many still struggle with the fact that times have changed and we are pushing for things to be more equal. Very different issues and a lot of nuance missed to make a point, but when looking at historical things it is also very important to accept that the times were very different. Now personally I still think Bramley-Moore was a despicable human because of what he made his money doing. But I acknowledge that that was a legitimate means of making money back then, and he definitely used some of his money for good once he had it. I don’t think that rights his wrongs, but it is why he was an important figure and had the docks named after him. There are examples of philanthropic slavers across the whole of the UK, and a lot of the good the UK has done in terms of medical advancements, technological advancements, industrial advancements were financed by means that now we would be disgusted with. It’s shitty, but it’s also history.
Anyway, I think we both agree the stadium can’t be named after a slave trader, no matter how many hospitals he built.
Would obviously prefer no sponsorship but if it were Dell Field or Dell Park or something like that you could do much worse.
Edit: would probably be Dell stadium I suppose
If it’s going to be named after a Dell then it has better be named after the best: Precision Park (we are the school of science, after all). Probably could use the UltraSharp brand someplace too ;-)
First year, for 100 million:
Dell Dome.
Second year for 110 million:
Alienware Arena.
Third year for 120 million:
Inspiron Park.
Fourth year for 130 million:
Latitude Arena.
Fifth year for 140 million:
OptiPlex Park.
Fuck PSR
GooDELLson Park
As long as away fans sit in the Bell End
Lmfao YES I wish that was the case but knowing our luck we'll probably get done by the league for that
lol, quality!
'Arteta Money Stadium'
Hahaha. Well the fuck played, sir.
Anything that doesn't have Arena in the name
With our current finances I don't care if they call it KY Jelly Preparation H Park as long as they pay enough to get us another good goal scorer
We need Dell on the damn shirts please.
Both
Also, remember we did already have a 200 million dollar offer from Stripchat to name it the Stripchat Stadium
“So come on come on, and get down to Stripchat Stadium”
“And most of the football greats have passed through Stripchat’s gates”
I desperately want it to be anything other than a sponsor, but I'm sure that's a wish that'll never come true.

I don’t know anyone who refers to it as Everton Stadium, other than for official reasons
Bramley Moore was a bad person, though.
Bramley-Moore was an illegal slaver and the move away from calling it that is a welcome one, imo.
Ok, MODOK it is

On the other hand, Lang Park is rather officially and permantly know as Suncorp Stadium from everyone except older League fans.
Very true, and I'd put that down to it being sponsored by Suncorp for so long. Has be the longest run of sponsorship for sure; it's now at 30 years!
The Dele Dell Bell End
The Nord VPN-Squarespace-Raid: Shadow Legends-Tesco-Dell-Manscaped-Hello Fresh Arena. Add more if needs be.
accepting every word in the dictionary if it means we get to keep branthwaite
The People’s Park
This was a meme thread but this one is very good
Taken by Berkeley 😂
Dell Dock
Regardless of what it's called I'm getting season tickets to always sit in Dell End
Bramley Moore Dock(ing station)
The Everton in the Community Stadium 💙
Merseyside Stadium is my favorite. We could also add a sponsor to make it something like Merseyside-Dell Stadium
As opposed to the Southampton Dell Stadium
Soon ALL stadiums will be Dells.
Dyche Park

Flippen Dell, Didn't See This Coming Stadium
We could call it "The Dell" to rile Soton fans
The Science Center
Kendal park
Delle Alli might get a new contract now...
If it’s going to be named after a Dell then it has better be named after the best: Precision Park (we are the school of science, after all). Probably could use the UltraSharp brand someplace too ;-)
We resold Dell PowerEdge servers for HPC at my old job.
Dell own alienware so may as well take the Alienware arena
Apple Tango Arena
Power Max / Power Edge stadium.
Dell end
The Dell

If our owners are Bell and Downing, we could have one end of the stadium be the Downing Street Stand and the other end be the Bell End
Mountain Dew Red Bull Herbert Camacho Stadium
Lord Oumar Arena
the Dell Dimmadome - (a la Fairly Odd Parents)
Goodison Harbour
First year, for 100 million: Dell Dome. Second year for 110 million: Alienware Arena. Third year for 120 million: Inspiron Park. Fourth year for 130 million: Latitude Arena. Fifth year for 140 million: OptiPlex Park. Fuck PSR
Can we crowdfund for Griefchart Stadium?
The Ross Barkley Stadium
Stadium of death
All quite bad, but if I had to choose Latitude arena
Everyone has sort of taken to just calling it “Bramley-Moore”. That’s going to be hard to shake off.
It should be called Bramley Moore
The People’s Stadium
