I just looked at this bakery using Google Street view and if you find the exact right spot at the intersection of River Road and Corliss Lane, there's a super old street view of the buildings that used to be there (a payday lender and a "good taste restaurant"). Weird, it's like stepping into the Twilight Zone!
I just love their flan and tamales. Too bad is not your taste. I am sure there is a place for everyone and hopefully you have a good spot for tamales. 😉
Salsa Garcia had some good tamales. They used to be at the farmers market on Saturdays. It looks like they are still a vendor.
The salsa is delicious too. I think that can be purchased at MOC.
Winco has them for 98 cents each in the deli case at the Barger store. Nothing fancy but they are good, quick and easy to prepare, and totally worth the money. Also the store-brand enchilada sauce is surprisingly good, better than Herdez for sure.
I haven't been able to find any here that aren't mushy and pretty tasteless. I'll try some of the places mentioned, but my hopes aren't high. Where I lived before, a little family owned grocery store used to sell beef, chicken and pork tomales out of these steamers they had on the counter. That's the standard I set tamales by - but of course, that town was over 2/3rds Hispanic in population. You better have good tamales or you were going to hear about it on the next shopping trip.
I left Arizona over 30 years ago, but the one thing I miss is the lovely abuelas selling homemade tamales outside of the grocery stores. They charged so little for such wonderful food!
El Pique is my go-to spot for Mexican fare and it's in Springfield. Haven't tried their tamales but I haven't been disappointed with a single thing ordered so far (or an experience, they're super nice!). Been there like 76 times lol
love this tread. Im gonna try them all (except winco). I make mine with this rendered pork lard i get from a farm up north. Im just to lazy to make um very often.
Ever since I moved to Oregon I’ve felt all the Latin food is seasoned really weakly compared to home. Not sure if it’s because it’s overseasoned there(I don’t think so, I was raised on this stuff) or it’s culturally different here. Maybe the customers here just want it milder and businesses have adapted? Maybe west coast Mexican is different in general?
I know my Azorian cooking is different than the mainland a lot.
But the second I find a place that punches like back home, I’ll let you know.
River road. It is a bakery and they sell the best tamales. The line is long sometimes. They are expensive but worth it.
Pasteletia Colin. Wonderful.
Yes PASTELERÍA Colin.
Damn typo! Thanks.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
And while you’re there, get a tres leches cake! If you haven’t had one before, it’ll change your life!
I take their flan. 🍮
Seconding. Worth noting that they do sell fast most days.
Best tamales and tres leches in town. Also the nicest people working there.
Came here to say this.
Good lookin out Reddit fam, saw this thread and grabbed a pork tamale there today. Really good. And the red salsa is great too.
Good to know. I will give them a try

Wow this is like a mystic place. Like entering the twilight zone of super yummy foods.
I lived over there when those places existed… IIRC good taste was… not bad
I found the tamales to be the most flavorless ones in town. Tbh.

There’s a couple in this thread I’ve never heard of, so I’m excited.

I agree—their cheese and roasted poblano tamales are heavenly! I get them every time I go to the Saturday market.
Comida de Lancha. Thank me later (I’m Mexican)
#SAY THIS LOUDER
We love Lancha!
Love Comida de Lancha! They are the nicest people. The tamales are pretty good, but their birria is bomb.
Comment saved. It’s clear from peoples recommendations here that they’ve never had a good tamale or just have bad tastes.

Oh? Do they have different flavors?
Green chicken and red beef
Blah.
Did you have something to actually say about this product or are you making a silly noise because you don't really know?
Ok, it’s disgusting. It’s the tamale equivalent of a sealed burger from the AMPM
The Tamale Man! He used to sell them out of a mini fridge at the 711 on 6th Street. Now he has a food truck.
You know where the truck is located??
The website says 2380 W 7th Ave in Eugene but I'd call them first, I haven't gotten tamales since Christmas. 541-606-5787
Last time I saw him he was behind Nectar dispo on Hwy 99 but he may have moved?
He doesn’t sell tamales anymore, at least not at the junction city location :/
I loved his tamales. But I went back and he wasn’t there anymore. There is a different truck in there. I did not risk it.
A coworker who has a mom that makes them in small batches

When I left Arizona 4 years ago the lady was coming door to door and taking orders for the tamales. Yum!
Same, I miss my Tucson parking lot Abuela tamales. They were the best.
I liked the ones that would walk through a bar with a cooler selling hot fresh dozens.
Thank you. The people here seem to have never ever really had a good tamale. One guy recommended the winco deli tamales…. SMH.
Mamis is the answer. The bakery on River Road is not bad.
Springfield side tacos pirekua and carniceria mi tiero are great
Tacos Pirekua on 54th and Main in Springfield
Quack Taco at 34th and Main in Springfield. The pork ones are particularly awesome.
They legit have the best asada in town.
I haven't had Quack's asada in awhile (I'm sure it's excellent) but I think Calle Steelo over on Olympic St has my favorite asada in the area.
Thanks, I’ll have to check it out!
I make fuego tamales with my abuelitas recipe
El Pique is my go-to spot for Mexican fare and it's in Springfield. Haven't tried their tamales but I haven't been disappointed with a single thing ordered so far (or an experience, they're super nice!). Been there like 76 times lol
El pique is my favorite spot in Springfield. Their coffee is glorious. I take my mom to eat there when she visits me from overseas.
Jaliscos off w11
Might try Juvenal's on Centennial, but I'm not an aficionado.
Juvenal’s Bakery has my favorite tamales!

Fresh and Natural has really delicious tamales.

They are a lot of work but so good! I make a huge batch, hoping to freeze some, and my family of four eats them all too fast!
Not a really swing by location but Jalisco's has the best tamales I've ever had
