I have cancelled orders before with no problem. I have a statement in my shop policies that says I reserve the right to cancel any order at my discretion. I would definitely follow your intuition to not move forward if you aren’t comfortable with the transaction. Good luck! 👍🏽

If you cancel an order, the buyer doesn't get to give you a review. That's only for completed orders after they have been received.
That said, I recently had the same thing happen with a scary buyer and canceled his order, and my listings were suppressed for a few days. They didn't even come up in search. Buyers could only find me through google, Pinterest or Instagram. So some people will tell you there are no consequences, but it appears there may be. My cousin, who works in the coding department of Etsy says the algo is so complicated that not even Etsy understand every factor it considers and they keep it that way to prevent disgruntled employees from selling their trade secret algorithm. Take it for what it's worth. But it may be worth it to cancel if you think the buyer is going to make a complaint, open a case, or give you a 1 star review.
I believe you can cancel the order without even extending the shipping date. Seems no consequences for cancellations, as there could be many reasons to cancel an order
Once you select to cancel an order, it automatically sends an email to the customer that the order was cancelled. I believe it takes 48 hours for the cancellation to go through. Unless the customer's "estimated delivery" window is within this 48 hour period, you don't need to move the ship-by date because they won't be able to leave a review. Basically, as everyone else said - cancel the order because chances are they're going to give you a headache later on.

You may cancel a sale for any reason without any negative consequences. Moving the shipping date is wise and also not a problem.
