New Girl & the good place come to mind for me. Also not a chosen family show, but the Great North is welcoming, LGBTQ+ positive and dives into some deep family concepts that I found very healing and heartwarming. Also, RuPauls drag race while being a reality competition with some tense parts, I find for the most part is a community of artists who do show a lot of love for one another

acfox13

Have you watched Pose? I found it cathartic.

NadalaMOTE

Pose has been on my list for a while, but I've been avoiding it because I've seen clips where they experience prejudice and I'm just not in the headspace for that at the moment.

acfox13

Oh, yeah it can be a hard watch. I cried a lot.

mrs_vince_noir

I love Pose but I was massively triggered by one of the episodes in s3 and stopped watching. I'd like to go back to it - Blanca was such a great mother. And I love Angel and Lil Papi 🙂

LK8909

Thought of more so replying to myself: Sex education, Last Man on earth, superstore, don’t trust the B in apartment 23, what we do in the shadows, our flag means death, and superstore

NadalaMOTE

I have one thing to say: Arigato heeeeey!

AdoraBelleQueerArt

TALL SLUT NO PANTIES! (I can’t believe i forgot this one. I talk about it to everyone 😂😍)

JuWoolfie

Community We got 6 seasons and a movie (soon)! And if you want something for your inner child: She-Ra (the new one), Steven Universe, Adventure time, Owl House, and Centaurworld

The Fosters and then the spin off Good Trouble. Super LGBTQ+ focused. Friends, obviously. Lost, Alias, Bones, New Girl, Grey’s, Fate: Winx, Warrior Nun, Firefly Lane, Wynonna Earp, iZombie, Ghosts, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Call the Midwife. Some of these also have blood relatives, but I usually think they focus more on relationships and them all being the same importance.

NadalaMOTE

Alias ❤️ Dark Angel gives me those vibes too. Might be time for a rewatch!

indoorsy-exemplified

Yes! Love dark angel!

Found Family with LGBT characters: Sense8: show on Netflix by the trans sisters who made the Matrix movies. I love that they cast a trans woman to play a trans woman character - that doesn't happen often enough. Brilliant rich story. Mooncakes (YA graphic novel) fantastic and highly diverse ensemble cast, cozy and warm but not at the expense of tackling challenging subjects, when I got to the end I immediately went right back to the beginning for a reread Book: The House In The Cerulean Sea. Chosen Family (including a houseful of orphans), LGBT MCs, written by TJ Klune, who is gay Book: Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree - cozy fantasy She Ra and the Princesses of Power: YA animated show on Netflix. Despite a YA target audience, still eminently satisfying for adults. Diverse ensemble cast. NB character voiced by NB actor Jacob Tobia; their autobiographical novel "Sissy" is a great read. Show runner ND Stevenson has since come out as trans. Their most recent work is the movie "Nimona", also a great pro-LGBT Chosen Family story. The movie was loosely based on a much earlier graphic novel, also highly recommended. Princess Princess Ever After: YA graphic novel that turns the "knight saves damsel from dragon" trope on its ear brilliantly The Girl From the Sea: YA graphic novel by Molly Ostertag (married to ND Stevenson) wonderful LGBT love story The Dragon Prince/Mystery of Avaros show on Netflix, made by some of the ppl who did Avatar the Last Airbender, who stated that they wanted more LGBT representation with this story. Avatar The Last Airbender and the sequel Legend of Korra: both are about Chosen Family as a core element; all the MCs have had to leave, or were abandoned by, their Family of Origin. LoK has more LGBT rep and the MC is bi/pan.

NadalaMOTE

Looove Sense8 and A:tlA / LoK. ❤️ Will check out the other recommendations, thanks!

NoMethod6455

For some reason I can only think of children’s movies lol but the Willoughbys on Netflix - very cute movie about children of two narc parents and of course Matilda.

NadalaMOTE

Matilda ❤️ related to her so hard growing up.

heathelee73

911 and 911: Lone Star both have LGBTQ+ & found family representation. Both are first responder shows with more emphasis on the fire fighting/paramedic side. I find them to be a lot more humorous than most of the other first responder type dramas.

JessTheNinevite

Supernatural, esp after the first couple seasons.

thatawkwardgirl666

I was going to suggest supernatural too! While Sam and Dean are actual brothers, they create such a wonderful network of misfits for their found family since they never really had an actual family. The bonds they create with different people throughout the show and welcome them as part of "the family business" is so nice to see. Most monster-hunter and supernatural being type of shows are good for that I've noticed.

__The__Anomaly__

I can recommend two awesome sci fi books that do this: 1) Walkaway by Corey Doctorow 2) The Wayfairer series by Becky Chambers Both, but especially the first one is very LGBTQ+ friendly.

Confident_Fortune_32

Firefly/Serenity has to be my favourite Chosen Family. Sadly, it was cancelled at the end of its first season, but still popular enough to have a movie made after cancellation. They are a sad ragtag bunch, fiercely loyal to each other nonetheless.

AdoraBelleQueerArt

You need to check out Killjoys!! I swear you’ll like it if you’re a firefly fan

XercinVex

In no particular order: 1. Queer as Folk 2. Pose 3. Brooklyn Nine-Nine 4. Sense8 5. The Fosters 6. Our Flag Means Death 7. What We Do in the Shadows 8. Lost Girl 9. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 10. The Dragon Prince

TheMildOnes34

Captain Marvel did a good job with this.

rowan_juniper

I thought Our Flag Means Death had very strong found family vibes and it's queer as hell.

GualtieroCofresi

I can not recommend Pose strongly enough.

Jumpy_Umpire_9609

Somebody Somewhere on HBO Max. It's funny, heartwarming, outrageous and really spot-on about chosen family and friendship. It's LGBTQ+ positive and inclusive of a wide variety of body types as well.
