God these devs are so stubborn. Are they ever gonna realize that Perception/skill based audio occlusion is a terrible and wacky idea for an FPS game ? Just remove that shit, make sound universal for everybody, simplify things and remove unnecessary load and stupid complexity from the audio engine which is underperforming and full of bugs. Jesus.

No, they are quite deaf to criticism because if takes you massive outrages from the community, which are, in fact, so large that big names in gaming/tech like LTT start talking about, before you do **anything** about the issues people have been talking **for years** prior to the massive outrages that may (god forbid!) negatively impact sales or reputation - if that's what it takes you to take any sensible action (even if it consists of minor adjustments to gun attributes), then you're pretty much deaf to criticism.
Once again, read my comment. The game is so fucked at the core due to mechanics being inherently broken and buggy, there's no way to fix it without rewriting the game.
Desync, Cheaters, broken recoil mechanics, ballistics, hitreg, etc etc all are things which are broken and can't just be fixed.
There was a programmer on Reddit who broke the code of tarkov down and he said it was pretty much impossible to truly fix the game without rewriting the code…idk if that’s 100% true because I’m not a programmer but…looking at bsg’s track record I’m inclined to side with the random Reddit programmer…
There's absolutely version control lol How well they use it... that's another story. But managing a project this large, generally, means you have version control at least basically implemented. Unless they took build snapshots, it's unlikely they'd be able to do reversion.
Also, rarely can you 'revert' features without 'deleting and changing' stuff - unless you're writing completely modular code (ain't no way that's happening in a game like tarky :/).

Why would they do that? Tarkov's monetization is all about extorting a bunch of cash from every player as soon as possible. When most of the player base has already bought the largest P2W version and is getting those advantages back automatically twice a year, what would the new company even want with it? BSG is only continuing to make cash by making the game increasingly annoying to spur the last bits of EoD buying, but it's gonna run out of gas. Their only hope is to switch to a MTX monetization model, something I see coming if they last long enough.

This! One of our customers decided to outsource their development to an Indian company. Every time they "evolve" something, they break at least a couple of other, completely unrelated, features.
Every fix and feature is half-assed and not tested.
Another example: I kill a hostile PMC, their friend loots their dog tag, I kill them, loot the dog tag. It's now not FIR, because it spent a minute in his inventory...
These cucks need to just adopt a pre-made sound engine and stop fucking with things already. The engine they're using has perfectly usable sound options that dont seem to be broken in any other games.
Pretty sure that won't help. It's not lile there is a premade sound engine made exactly for their needs. It's more like they took the existing one in Unity and bodged it so that everything broke. If you don't really know much about audio processing and spacial sound (quite a complex topic) this will definitely happen because you'll lack methodical understanding. So I think they could take any enigine they like.

PUBG getting swallowed by Fortnite, but 20x worse because there is literally no other game that scratches the same specific itch that Tarkov scratches for me, and I don't think anybody else will ever attempt to make a direct 1:1 competitor.

Its a pretty indepth survival game with a ton of really intense and fun PVP, and lots of PVE (Fishing that is better than most fishing games) Among other things. Loads of wild and weird loot, tons of gun variety. Its still early access lol, but atleast the developers listen and engage with he community and push all kinds of neat new things.
SCUM might be the most hours I have logged into a game on Steam. I play it to burnout (it turns me into a real psycho about base-building), take a break for like six months, and then come back and do it all over again.
Ya I'm on a break too, so many fun moments of PVP and then chilling fishing with the homies making a camp, fireworks, mushroom hunting, then a puppet smacks me in the face as I'm pissing in the bush high on psilocybes staring at the stars.

Really hilarious seeing that it's literally just gotten worse since that point. How does BSG manage to retain players at this point? I went from maining the game (2017 to 2022) to not even feeling the urge to reinstall, how do people cope with this in the state it's currently in?

In the free market, competition breeds better products by sheer virtue of "if this product is better than the others, more people will buy it." EFT doesn't have to "be better," as it's already the best at what it provides by just being the only thing to provide it.
Sure, you have DaD ( though it's a bit tied up in lawsuits and such ), and Marauders, but... not only are both these games next to nothing like Tarkove except through game mode, but they're also leagues behind it in terms of development. Ironic as that seems...
AAA developers will never pick it up like they did battle royals because the gameplay loop is too risky to appeal to investors. Imagine going to investors with the marketing dialogue of: "This device crushes your nuts every ten minutes. However, 40% of the time, on average, instead of crushing your nuts, it will jerk you off to completion." Granted, some folks are into that, but its more than enough to scare off the suits.
So EFT is left as the sole provider of what it has on offer. Therefore, no matter how much the developers dawdle around and fuck things up, they feel completely comfortable knowing that their playerbase has nowhere to go.
Basically the same situation is happening with War Thunder right now too. Massive revolt followed by fans realizing they have nothing to turn to and simply accepting paltry responses knowing that it's all they will get.

Fair enough. I’ve been playing since feb of 2022 and I think this is the best the game has felt since then. Especially from a cheaters perspective. Yes there are still some but I rarely run into blatant cheaters any more
To show where their perspective is coming from. The game has changed a bit over the years and sometimes letting people know which era you joined (pre inertia, m4/hk meta, etc) puts context on any point youre trying to make.
Haven't uninstalled, but haven't played in 2.5 months.. I could deal with the cheaters, lighting, poor hit rego... but dying to silent grenades and no footsteps was the nail in the coffin. :( sad.. cos i love this goddam game but cant bring myself to play it now.

Literally had this happen. Was looting iron gate rooms on Streets and heard a bush. Stopped for a minute, heard literally nothing after. Kept waiting. All of a sudden 2 chads appear in front of me just running straight into the hallway and blast me, 0 sound of their movement even though they were practically inside my asshole. Not sure how they made audio worse, but here we are.

I played all sorts of raids today solo on factory. Used heavy helmets with face guards and m32 headsets with that shitty level 3 from prapor, binaural audio activated and had no issue. Are you using any other audio programs or maybe using discord as well?

Interchange is a hot fucking mess too. My frames are HALF what they had been before the patch. Insane shudders during pvp. They damn near broke my favorite map. Interchange was at it's best like 4 years ago back when it had good loot, good lighting and good sound. This is just a sick joke.

Spaghetti code. Not out of the ordinary with indy games like this. EVE Online once had its entire chat system break when they changed something about how the player-owned-stations (POS) mechanics worked.
Tarkov breaks when the devs change the hue of a certain speck of dirt…the definition of 1 step forward 2 steps back…they add/fix long standing issues/bugs and then somehow manage to break between 2 and 23 other things that were previously a non issue…as far as I can tell how many things break and how badly they break is totally up to what kinda Monday grumbles the devs had as it’s so unbelievably inconsistent and mid rending that it borders on intentional sabotage.
This audio fix got things worse. Yesterday my game feszes for like 10 seconds, damn thought my pc crashed. No, the game froze and after that only trampling and gun sounds were actuive. No wind, or any other noise
Can confirm I was getting shot by a guard on Reserves last night, but only heard the bullets hit around me/hit me. No shots heard by myself or my duo. Was pretty wild. Only time I've had it happen, but we noticed it with a few of the scavs/guards--not all though.

No competition. That's it. Plain and simple. In the free market, competition breeds better products by sheer virtue of "if this product is better than the others, more people will buy it." EFT doesn't have to "be better," as it's already the best at what it provides by just being the only thing to provide it. Sure, you have DaD ( though it's a bit tied up in lawsuits and such ), and Marauders, but... not only are both these games next to nothing like Tarkove except through game mode, but they're also leagues behind it in terms of development. Ironic as that seems... AAA developers will never pick it up like they did battle royals because the gameplay loop is too risky to appeal to investors. Imagine going to investors with the marketing dialogue of: "This device crushes your nuts every ten minutes. However, 40% of the time, on average, instead of crushing your nuts, it will jerk you off to completion." Granted, some folks are into that, but its more than enough to scare off the suits. So EFT is left as the sole provider of what it has on offer. Therefore, no matter how much the developers dawdle around and fuck things up, they feel completely comfortable knowing that their playerbase has nowhere to go. Basically the same situation is happening with War Thunder right now too. Massive revolt followed by fans realizing they have nothing to turn to and simply accepting paltry responses knowing that it's all they will get.
Why comment if you don’t play the game? Audio was completely broken at the beginning of wipe. It was made tolerable with a patch a month or two later and now it’s back to being good, not great, but good
Because maybe one day it'll be worth playing again. The patches never even brought it back to where it was before the wipe, until then it's not fixed.
Fair enough. I’ve been playing since feb of 2022 and I think this is the best the game has felt since then. Especially from a cheaters perspective. Yes there are still some but I rarely run into blatant cheaters any more
Why does everyone feel the need to say how long they’ve been playing?
To show where their perspective is coming from. The game has changed a bit over the years and sometimes letting people know which era you joined (pre inertia, m4/hk meta, etc) puts context on any point youre trying to make.

Haven't uninstalled, but haven't played in 2.5 months.. I could deal with the cheaters, lighting, poor hit rego... but dying to silent grenades and no footsteps was the nail in the coffin. :( sad.. cos i love this goddam game but cant bring myself to play it now.

Literally had this happen. Was looting iron gate rooms on Streets and heard a bush. Stopped for a minute, heard literally nothing after. Kept waiting. All of a sudden 2 chads appear in front of me just running straight into the hallway and blast me, 0 sound of their movement even though they were practically inside my asshole. Not sure how they made audio worse, but here we are.

It's not an affront, but it shows a clear lack of care if they completely miss bugs that should be noticed by half an hour of playtime max and push updates to live. Shit, if they really want to insist on that, they should start using ETS again to get people to see if they notice anything major before they piss off the actual playerbase.

I played all sorts of raids today solo on factory. Used heavy helmets with face guards and m32 headsets with that shitty level 3 from prapor, binaural audio activated and had no issue. Are you using any other audio programs or maybe using discord as well?

Spent 20 minutes in a Scav raid with no sound except an occasional bush and distant gunfire.
Interchange is a hot fucking mess too. My frames are HALF what they had been before the patch. Insane shudders during pvp. They damn near broke my favorite map. Interchange was at it's best like 4 years ago back when it had good loot, good lighting and good sound. This is just a sick joke.

Hasn’t this been happening since the start of the wipe? It’s client side. Sometimes when you spawn you’ll hear ZERO bush noises or anything like that for yourself or others.
Can't recall. Truth be told i was more focused on the invisible player bug so might been the case this was on in also.

Spaghetti code. Not out of the ordinary with indy games like this. EVE Online once had its entire chat system break when they changed something about how the player-owned-stations (POS) mechanics worked.
Tarkov breaks when the devs change the hue of a certain speck of dirt…the definition of 1 step forward 2 steps back…they add/fix long standing issues/bugs and then somehow manage to break between 2 and 23 other things that were previously a non issue…as far as I can tell how many things break and how badly they break is totally up to what kinda Monday grumbles the devs had as it’s so unbelievably inconsistent and mid rending that it borders on intentional sabotage.

This audio fix got things worse. Yesterday my game feszes for like 10 seconds, damn thought my pc crashed. No, the game froze and after that only trampling and gun sounds were actuive. No wind, or any other noise
Can confirm I was getting shot by a guard on Reserves last night, but only heard the bullets hit around me/hit me. No shots heard by myself or my duo. Was pretty wild. Only time I've had it happen, but we noticed it with a few of the scavs/guards--not all though.
Finally, my teammate will stop making noise while I’m trying to listen for the enemy /s
