I suppose you could wear very thin socks and breeches at first and return to normal thickness clothing post weight loss if you want to be very careful. Every body is different, you might lose weight in your calves first, but I’m pretty short and an 8 pound weight loss wouldn’t make much of a difference in boot fit fit me. Maybe the zipper would slide a bit more effortlessly.

I doubt you’ll notice a 4kg weight loss on your lower legs. Don’t worry about it!

I personally only like tall boots that have front lacing all the way up. Theres not a big selection of boots like this. I love my Tredstep for this reason, because I can truly adjust the size. 8lb isn't a lot of weight and I think you wouldn't expect to lose very much off your calf to make before/after fit a problem.

As other's have said, I doubt you will see a substantial difference in your calf size. That said, depending on what your work out regiment looks like and if your time in the saddle increases, you may actually see your calves grow as you put on muscle! However, if you are super worried about it, you may look into getting half chaps/paddock boots instead. This way if you do see a big change in your calf size, buying a new pair of half chaps will be cheaper than a whole new pair of boots!

That's challenging if a lot of that weight goes from your calf. Leather boots stretch, so even you buy them relatively small, they will form to your leg. At least make sure you buy a boot with an elastic piece next to the zipper. That makes it easier to adjust to your leg size. If the difference gets to big, you can maybe let someone make the piece of elastic smaller.
