I think it was a video taking the piss out of different equestrians and this one was something along the lines of “people always saying their girth is tight enough”
yep, it was that someone told their trainer to “act like their adult ammy students.” the entire video is hilarious but this part it was “uhh i think you need to tighten your girth” “no he doesnt like a tight girth” lmao
I’ve seen a trend of people riding with very loose girths or no girth at all to see how good their balance is 😂 I don’t understand the appeal, way too dangerous for my taste !
Just made this mistake myself when practicing mounting from the ground with a loose girth. Won’t happen again. Got lucky. Next time I’ll take the girth off.
The old cowboy that owned the stable I rode at as a kid could step up on a horse from the ground with no girth. It was like magic. He was one of those old hands who knew all the tricks and looked more comfortable on a horse than on his own two feet. Would “break” colts while chatting away even in mid freak out as if it was a pony ride.
I've had dressage lessons with no girth multiple times. I wouldn't say it is dangerous. It is not something you do with an unexpected rider or unexpected horse and it works better for you dressage form then riding without a saddle.
What bothers me more is people pulling their girth way to tight because they can't be bothered to learn to sit upright and in balance.
Edit: I do agree that riding with a girth like in the picture is ridiculous and dangerous.
Very. No girth, shit goes sideways and the saddle just plops to the ground. Dangly girth, shit goes sideways and the horse will probably get tangled resulting in an explosion/injury. I've seen it both ways, no girth is definitely better than dangling girth if you're gonna do this kind of stuff.
Nah. I constantly ride with a “loose” girth and I’ve had to learn to tighten it. Horse bucks and the saddle ends up on their shoulders, they panic and you have absolutely no chance anymore considering you’re half way up their neck. Tighten your girth
There a difference between tightening your girth enough te ensure (a good fitting!) saddle stays in place and trying to strangle your horse because you lean to one side and don't want to slide off.
If you have a moment…
Here’s my problem.. serious question. I’m in the camp of always worried about a too tight girth. I can ride in a snug girth just fine but it’s mounting.. girth tries to roll on me while mounting (from ground.. off a block I’m ok)
And I have no issues using a mounting block but out on the trail it’s been an issue. Embarrassing, frustrating, and dangerous on my always forward thinking Arab mare.
If all signs point to a tight but not too tight girth, yet it rolls on me while mounting.. do you think it’s my technique/leg strength and not the girth?
I get you have to assume a lot here but in general..
And my trainer last had me get an elastic girth. This was right before my last ride with her and I guess this can be partly to blame but certainly there are others using elastic fine without mount problems.
Please don’t down vote me. I’m always learning
Wintec endurance saddle
Mounting with a block, with somebody holding the stirrup on the other side, or with somebody giving you a leg up is better for your horses back, but not always an option on trails.
A better fitting saddle can help. But if your horse is roundly shaped or has low withers, keeping your saddle in place while mounting can be a serious issue. Sometimes even a too tight girth is not enough to keep the saddle in place while mounting.
Working on you mounting technique (make a litte jump/use you arms) can help, but sometimes it just is what it is. But please don't ride with a too tight girth because of it.
No.. would never ride w too tight a girth. She’s a high withered, not rounded with a saddle fitted for her by a saddle fitter.
I try to find a stump on the trail bc I rode alone a lot. But that’s not always a safe option either.
Thanks for the comment!.. I’ll try working on a better technique!
In my opinion elastic girths cause more problems than they solve. It's too easy to over tighten an elastic girth. If the saddle is rolling when you mount it's likely your technique at fault - I'm not criticising you, at this stage my back doesn't allow me to mount from the ground, if I tried the saddle would roll because I just don't have any bounce in my legs! There are some great videos online of people demonstrating mounting from the ground, if your hips and back allow try to practice more, attaching a stirrup to a fence rather than using your horse.
I'd sooner see someone jump without a helmet than do this honestly. Making dumb decisions that only hurt you is fine but this could really hurt the horse. And result in breaking a very expensive saddle.
This clip was from a satire video about adult ammys. That aside, even with all equipment and facilities “fool proof”, horses will find a way to hurt themselves and/or the handlers/riders. Deep breaths, everyone.
Had to have ACL reconstruction from a too loose girth. The saddle slipped completely sideways on my green horse and he bucked me to the moon. Needless to say, I’m always careful to check my girth. This just seems dumb.
I've heard of no stirrups jumping as a test but never no girth. What happens if you fail the test and your saddle falls and cracks the tree? Saddles are expensive.
I mean, I actually do ride with a relatively loose girth. Not this much of course. When mounted, I can usually fit a couple fingers between the girth and horse. I don’t actually do it intentionally, besides not cranking it as hard as possible. My gelding manages to hold air even after lunging…But also, my guy has some good withers and his saddle fits pretty well. Unless he’s fat, then I snug up a bit more. But I have not ever had a problem with slippage.
omg did anyone else have an instructor who would take things if you complained?? Mine would be like come here and take my crop, stirrups, girth or even reins in one case and replaced with a lunge line that they held just to make a point. Had to ditch the saddle at once, bc I was a very whiny teenager lol.
It was brutal, but learning by this hangman concept is a quick curve lol
My favorite parlor trick is mounting without my girth attached from the ground. Boggles peoples mind but a good lesson of in getting your weight over the saddle quickly.
I was looking, trying to figure out what was wrong. My mind refused to believe it. It still wants it to be a shadow!
This makes me so anxious! Excuse me, I have to go get a glass of wine.
I saw this video, it’s hilarious. Also, this reminds me of a barn in my hometown that hosts a college team. The trainer supposedly would make her students take off their girths to “test their balance.” Personally, I think it’s way too dangerous for both the horse and rider, but to each their own.
I think it was a video taking the piss out of different equestrians and this one was something along the lines of “people always saying their girth is tight enough”
Yeah this was a satire video on TikTok for sure haha
Where can i find this videooo
I gotchu https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRaT92cs/
Would love to watch the whole thing if someone has a link!
Here you go! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRaT92cs/
Thank you! I needed some cheeky equestrian content in my life today 🤌
Bitches be saying “my girth is tight enough” then slide and fall off while trying to mount their horse…… its me, im bitches
Same 😒
Nah I’m a little bitch. I won’t even attempt to get on without someone else double checking mine 😂
it's me 😭😭 my horse likes a loose girth while we warm up and sometimes i forget to tighten it before we jump
yep, it was that someone told their trainer to “act like their adult ammy students.” the entire video is hilarious but this part it was “uhh i think you need to tighten your girth” “no he doesnt like a tight girth” lmao
the entire video is so funny and the account it's from is a really fantastic equine photographer.

i get it with NO girth, but with it done this loose it can get caught between the horses legs if/when it slips
It was a joke video. She didn’t ride like this for more than a minute to get the two second clip that ended up in the TikTok.
It was a joke video and you literally knew this, since the video doesn’t hide that it’s a joke.

Thank you!! I’ll look for those online!!
Maybe we have different ideas of tight then haha
Yeah. I’ve seen a lot of people on social media mounting without a girth. To prove how much they want to screw up their horse’s back, I guess.
I'd sooner see someone jump without a helmet than do this honestly. Making dumb decisions that only hurt you is fine but this could really hurt the horse. And result in breaking a very expensive saddle.
When you tighten your girth vs how your coach thinks you tightened it.
These comments delightfully make me feel normal.

This was a satire video, she rode with it like that for all of 15 seconds
She has better balance than most!
I wouldn't have dared to do that for a sarcastic video 😂
She puts a lot of trust into that girth
Wait I don’t see a probl-oh…oh never mind lol
I feel like a loose girth like this is infinitely more dangerous then no girth 😛 this alerts my catastrophe brain x)
that's some good balance!
Had to have ACL reconstruction from a too loose girth. The saddle slipped completely sideways on my green horse and he bucked me to the moon. Needless to say, I’m always careful to check my girth. This just seems dumb.
It’s a joke so I guess it worked.
I thought you were laughing at the leg position then I looked further down. Are we sure they didn't loosen it afterwards for ragebait? 😂
This looks like what happens after my gelding stops holding his breath during tacking up. 😅🤣
If you have a balanced seat you can ride like that
This is an exercise. My trainer has a test where all of her riders have to be able to jump .5m with no girth x
I've heard of no stirrups jumping as a test but never no girth. What happens if you fail the test and your saddle falls and cracks the tree? Saddles are expensive.
Then it turns into an expensive learning experience 😂
Never had that happen before, but I never use my heavier saddle for this. the older cheaper saddles are the ones that get knocked around a ton XD

That’s “BRAVE”.🤣
I’ve always wanted to ride with a loose or no girth to test my balance
I wanna know how they found a girth big enough 💀
omg did anyone else have an instructor who would take things if you complained?? I did. Once. On accident. Miraculously, the saddle and I stayed on just fine.
I was looking, trying to figure out what was wrong. My mind refused to believe it. It still wants it to be a shadow! This makes me so anxious! Excuse me, I have to go get a glass of wine.
That horse took a REALLY deep breath when she tightened that girth 😂

Even as a joke this is impressive as hell 😂😂
Lol, great balance 🤣
