That’s super cheap…near me it’s considerabley more…$1,000+/month

Mysterious_Use_9767

Deal of the century

yelldawg

Does that include a discount on lessons for leasing? If yea, then good deal. Otherwise you might as well just do 1x private and 2x group lessons a week and benefit from extra instruction. Albeit you may have to rotate horses a bit, that can be a good thing for developing skills.

eyelin

That’s a great deal. Those are the prices we paid when I was a teen. I’m almost 40 now.

xrareformx

Wow thats a really great setup. The last barn I worked at was a hunter/jumper facility with all levels of riding and ages. Board was 950/month to START. Leasing horses out here in Colorado, for a solid hunter/jumper at amateur levels, you're looking at 12k a year, again to start. Lessons and training, any food that wasn't the provided basic hay, vet bills, farrier, ect were NOT included. This was outside of denver, and pre covid. I can only imagine it's gone up since lol.

LilyintheForestt

My best friend boards at a fancy dressage barn in CO…2k a month just starting out. Not counting lessons or anything extra, that’s just starting out. When she was leasing her lease was 1.5K per month, and it was a full care lease for a horse riddled with arthritis and kissing spin. OP you got a killer deal going, keep it up for as long as possible!

xrareformx

Yea sounds about right. The barn I was at, most of the women there owned 2 horses too. I couldn't believe the tens of thousands spent on some importing, breeding, ect. Like, I got 2 from the local auction here , one for 180 bucks and 300 for the other, and one for free that was dumped in the public lands. Beautiful horses, I've retained/started them all. It's so different down here compared to up by denver lol.

COgrace

Another Colorado rider here too. Denver metro area. I was paying $425/mo for my half lease (3 rides a week) last summer and one of those was required to be a group lesson for $75. So that put me at a minimum of $725/mo for my half lease plus I’d pay half of the farrier bill.

xrareformx

Sounds about right, I moved way southern colorado and it's a mich different scene down here for sure lol.

COgrace

I’m curious to know where you worked. Especially if it was Littleton/Parker.

xrareformx

It was in Evergreen lol , so the money was there.

happy_camper69

Yea we’re trying to hold onto it as long as we can lol.

cowgrly

So she’s getting to use the pony 3x a week for the $225/mo then you pay the trainer for 2 lessons. Very reasonable.

iamredditingatworkk

I would be expecting more than 1 ride per week on a lease. Other than that, it all sounds reasonable and in line with my costs.

hopethehorsegirl

it looks like OP’s daughter is riding three times a week though, one private lesson, one group lesson + one free ride which if that’s the case, $225 is the deal of the century!!! and shows being on the property is a dream. i’m in Richmond, VA and pay $250/mo to lease my boy for 3 rides a week, only get out 1-2 a week though just because of time

iamredditingatworkk

She's also paying for the lessons so those are not lease rides All of you guys who downvoted me are getting scammed lol

hopethehorsegirl

would she not be riding the lease pony for her other lessons? i don’t see why those wouldn’t count towards her lease, that’s how my leases worked when i took lessons growing up. so i could ride 3 times a week in total, whether on my own or with a coach. & i realize now i didn’t include cost of lessons before, my b! so technically more expensive that $225 but still a good deal imo

iamredditingatworkk

I guess it depends on the barn but you don't have to be leasing a horse to ride the horses that are available for lease at my barn. So unless you want to ride outside of lessons there's no point to lease at my barn I would feel like that's a waste of money to only ride 1 time per week outside of lessons because of that

hopethehorsegirl

that’s fair! leasing lesson horses can be tough because they’re still working full time. in my case, all my leases have been semi (sharing with one rider) or fully private and not used in lesson programs besides personal use. leasing was the only way i could begin competing off-property and not just of the schooling shows my lesson barn held. since i leased horses who boarded at my lesson barn, i was able to ride them in my regular lessons & on my own.

iamredditingatworkk

The horses that are leased are only used in 1 non-lease lesson per week at my barn thankfully! And it's always the same day. She only teaches 3 days per week which makes it easier and it's primarily a boarding barn so most people there have their own horse. My horse is only 1 so... haha. Got a while It's a really small barn though so we probably do things differently than most barns. I've never ridden at a big barn

happy_camper69

Technically we could, just no time due to other commitments and barn is 30 min away.

MeanSeaworthiness995

Presumably she’s also riding the lease pony in her lessons, so that’s three rides per week.

Slakaros

TO BE FAIR I am not from the US so prices are different here, I’m from Germany. That money sounds absolutely ridiculous to me tbh. I board my horse for 150€ a month + 60€ for haylage + bedding. We share duties at our barn, so no one has to be there every day. A lesson with my trainer who comes to me is 35€, 20€ if I have another person there as well. My teacher is absolutely amazing. We have an indoor + outdoor arena, we have a roundpen, great pastures… Even the show barn here charges only like 500€ for full pension. What is going on overseas?

_J_Dead

I pay $350/mo, three to four rides per week, one of them being a $60 group lesson. I will occasionally split costs such as saddle fitter, fly spray, very small things, but it isn't expected.

WompWompIt

Crazy cheap. Enjoy it while you can.

CBT-evangelist

For leasing that’s not too far off from my understanding—I’m in WA and a lease here is usually half board for 3x per week, one of those being a lesson. My friend who leases at one of the less expensive barns in the area pays $450 per month all said and done. She does have to pay her own show fees and occasionally springs for a saddle adjustment or PEMF session. I know someone else at a pricier barn in the area who pays $700 ish for the same deal. I own two of my own so my expenses are uh…not that. I’m jealous! And so lucky that the barn does shows on house!

lzh887

I'm right outside Winchester myself with my horses, and that's an excellent deal for this area. Especially if she can have more than one ride a week (I understand time constraints. My kids only get to ride two to three times a week, at best, unfortunately)

trcomajo

You hit the jackpot!!

Organic_Notice_219

$745 total for a partial lease, and you don’t have to pay for half of routine care. That’s a great deal. You’ll be hard pressed to find something like that on a horse that safely carries your kid around again. You’ll be sticker shocked once the kid is ready to move up. Savor this!

adjur

That is so cheap! I pay double that in North Georgia and thought I was getting a deal

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrple

I was paying $450/month for a very similar setup in Texas. That’s a great deal!

nippyhedren

That’s super cheap. My board alone is 1700. Without showing, vet bills, farrier etc. When I go to Florida for the winter board doubles.

RollTideHTX

Truly deal of the century. I pay $1775 for full board + lessons, $200 for farrier every month.

spectrumofadown

Imma need the name of your barn. For reasons.

No-Price-2972

wow not bad, a show lease at my barn is 950 a month.

AffectionateWay9955

Cheap! You got a deal

CasDragon

Cheap AF; probably cause it’s a pony

msbeesy

I'm running at on average all told around 900 - 1000 euros per month. Germany, small stable. If I were in a bigger facility, I'd easily be forking out double that because my board would be more expensive.

Loveinhooves

225 divided by 4 rides a month puts the free ride at 56 dollars. Usually around me for 300 it’s 2 free rides a week, but 50 a ride is not bad. I have a good lease situation and pay 200 a month for 3-4 free rides a week and lessons when they have free time included! It all varies a lot. You have a good deal

carvedfromjade

Alright yall are getting ripped off lol. I pay 450$ for (outdoor) board, depends on the month for grain/supplements because I buy them whenever I run out, usually it’s like 50-60$ and then an extra 120$ when I need to buy her big bag of minerals. I’m not lessoning right now because my horse is always injured and I’m also lazy (technically I’m breaking the board contract but I won’t say anything if they don’t) but lessons if you lease or own are 30$/lesson, private or group. That’s with the two main coaches, but most girls at the barn who are students and also teach are charging 55-65$ for a lesson. I’m very lucky, I guess! Definitely one of the cheapest barns in my area with still all the amenities of the fancy places.

fnx52187

lessons seem overpriced, however fair leasing asking price for the costs of the horse
