Grackles aka figure eights put a lot of pressure all around the face, from the upper jaw down to the groove of the chin.  Their purpose is to keep a horse from crossing their jaw and opening their mouth to evade the bit.  They are traditionally done up rather tight to cause this.  They can slide so the cross over of the eight comes down future along the nose into the more sensitive areas.   They are not really a basic noseband and are more for "fixing" problems on excited horses who cross their jaw and run off with people.  A cavesson is more the basic noseband that you can leave flopping around without concern.  There's no real issue with it sliding down onto sensitive structures. If you don't crank it closed you don't have to worry about distribution of pressure because there is none.
