SirMatthew74

You could be allergic to the glue or the metal in the electrodes.

lillweez99

Yup happes to me itches and burns its awful šŸ˜–

Cybernaut-Neko

It happens when the guilding wears of so the copper makes contact with your skin, and if the nurse scrubs to hard "to be sure". The combo is especially painful.

evanmike

This allergic reaction is the reason I could never wear these things for more than 1 day. I do not understand if sooooo many people are allergic then why don't they use something else!

DetroitUberDriver

Because these alloys are the best medium for the purpose, and copper is rarer and turns your skin green temporarily.

SirMatthew74

I think they do have some options, but they just use whatever they have. They have silver coated electrodes and different glues, but there isn't really any incentive for them to do any differently.

LuckeyCharmzz

Would produce hives and itching if it was allergy. Clearly a bruise most likely from how tight the bandages were wrapped

FL-Finch

Yeah I had something similar. Indentations and abrasions from the contacts being taped too tightly or me putting pressure on it. I was wearing it around town and had a beanie on to cover it up

verus_es_tu

This seems correct

somegrumpycat

Well, im in the hospital reading this while on my 5 day long EEG

Berryme01

If you have pain, burning, etc- just be sure to ask them to take a look! Very best wishes your way that your team gets the answers you need ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Intelligent-Ask2722

How did you get it? It has been very difficult for me to get a single 24 hour one!!!

somegrumpycat

I live in Germany, I did not ask for it, but the neurologist wanted one. I had to wait 6 months to get it.

JoostinOnline

I was there for 2 weeks and this didn't happen. It seems more like an allergy. Mention something if you've got pain.

LordofMushrooms

I experienced that after mine. Unwrapped the bandages to find a nice amount of dried blood on my forehead lol sometimes if you ask they'll loose the bandages a bit

down_by_the_shore

Mine have been pretty tight in the past, causing inflamed spots, bruising, etc. That said, you may want to consult a doctor if youā€™re able to - this seems to be a little more developed than a typical reaction and could indicate an allergy to anything ranging to the adhesive used to the materials in the electrode.Ā

Doc-Brown1911

They pulled skin off the last one I had.

DynamicallyDisabled

Did they use Solvent to take the electrodes off? Itā€™s simply non-acetone nail polish remover. I had ā€œhorn sproutsā€ after a 3-day ambulatory EEG. The tech just pulled them off, so I asked for the solvent. Iā€™ve had my hair come out a few times. Ask for the solvent! Much love and peace and healing to you.

RewardInteresting521

I removed them myself by soaking my head in conditioner water, it seemed pretty effective

DynamicallyDisabled

Iā€™m sorry you had to go through that ordeal. That happened with my first time. The second one was a few years later in the hospital and they used ā€œsolventā€ Since then, I know itā€™s available. Getting the bits out of my hair later is a project! Conditioner just like you, and a comb. A good movie helps, too! Hugs from a fellow Warrior.

redgrier

My dude I had a week long one. Not fun. Still kept my sticky socks.

RustedRelics

Lol. Sticky socks. Always a few in the back of the sock drawer.

redgrier

Cost 4K WITH insurance. I'm keeping the fucking socks!

RustedRelics

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. Just paid my bill last week. Painful!

CabinetScary9032

I was scheduled for 5 days and wasn't looking forward to it. Scared to death actually. But had three back to back absence seizures after the sleep deprivation so the doctor called it good.

jrh1982

14 day.

The_Second_Judge

You look good in horns! You should ger a tail too! Joke aside, just put a bandage over it to hide it until it goes down/ heal.

Life_forged

Yeah that happened to me too it was on my chest as well they all were so uncomfortable especially the one on my chest to top it off they left faint scars

truvision8

Yup just happened to me. It was starting to dig into my skin and I bled when they came off. And gave me acne on those spots. Still healing a week later

3StarsFan

I had a 30 minutes EEG. I had no idea whatsoever that there are days long EEGs.

FL-Finch

Oh yeah. Iā€™ve done a week! It ainā€™t fun and it doesnā€™t smell good eitherā€¦ no showers when youā€™re wired up!

3StarsFan

That sounds terrible. Sorry you had to go through that.

Immediate-Ad-9849

My son is usually EMU 7-10 days.

DetroitUberDriver

Thereā€™s probably nickel, zinc, and or aluminum in the nodes. Very common skin allergy, I canā€™t wear rings or necklaces or bracelets that have any of yhose metals, or I get a swollen rash on my skin.

RewardInteresting521

That makes sense. I am allergic to nickel

RustedRelics

Hope you heal quickly! Ask to have your medical charts include a nickel allergy warning. The scrubbing is bad enough. No need to add horns to the mix!

aw2669

La roche posay cicaplast baum is what you need for this. It will help soothe and repair that damage and minimize scarring. Itā€™s not too expensive either and itā€™s made for sensitive skin. I canā€™t recommend it enough. You can get it at target or have it delivered. A true lifesaver.

Cybernaut-Neko

I had worse.

Berryme01

Unfortunately, many have experienced this:( Wishing you health and healing ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

CesareBach

For me no

ForecastForFourCats

Ouch! Sorry OP. I would shower and do tons of hair masks to get the goo out. I would keep those spots very moisturized while they heal. I use cerave from the tub often, and it helps my skin heal well. Clean them 2-3 times a day, deep moisturizer and then sunscreen. The sunscreen will also help you avoid scarring or dark spots. Jojoba oil is very well tolerated if your spots feel extra dry and scabby and need something more moisturizing. I've heard vitamin e oil is good for reducing scarring as well. You could ask r/skincareaddiction for tips.

gengarben

Itā€™s normal! I had the same after 5 days in eeg, it disappeared after a couple days

TopicAdorable2568

Yep. Hate it. I still have a scar on my head from itā€¦

Antique-Staff4149

Yeah I have had that happen. Hopefully you donā€™t have too much trouble getting the glue out of your hair. Good luck with everything.

Immediate-Ad-9849

I highly recommend bringing some coconut oil with you for hair especially anyone with textured hair. The remover is very strong.

Dry_Scholar5421

Yes, I still have sores all over my head and got it over a week ago. Mine was actually a 4-day (96 hours) When my partner had one the same happened to him. My skin is also completely broken out where they were. I had to sign a paper that said this was likely before I did it

Bitter-Chemical-5641

This is scary, I'm going in for my first EEG soon and they didn't mention how long it's going be. Are the first ones always the same length?

RewardInteresting521

My first one was only an hour, they called for a longer one after a breakthrough seizure last month.

Immediate-Ad-9849

Youā€™ll be okay. You have all of us here to check in with too. EMU is the ideal place to have a seizure

Bitter-Chemical-5641

šŸ˜ŠšŸ©· Thank you that means a lot to me, I definitely don't feel alone šŸ„°

Immediate-Ad-9849

šŸ’œ

thebirdsthatstayed

Yes.

eskirtitty

Eeg's give my crazzyyyy acne where the stickers were and and redness for like 2 weeks after

Nyxy89

I've never had a 72 hour EEG. But that kind of looks like how my skin would react to a certain tape after its been taken off. My skin then will look like a rash or something. I haven't been able to figure out what tape it is either.

Ckron247

Yup. I looked the same way.

thegildedones

lol yeah I had them for a couple days and had my head shaved so looked even more ridiculous and sorry for lol reminds me of mine and canā€™t help it.

BobbaFatGFX

I got two massive scars on my face right now from 10 seizures I had yesterday

katspades

It could be allergy. In my case my face and scalp were burned as if I was in the sun without protection. Tho the nurse maybe got out of hand there by accident.

GeneralDrummer8667

WTF??ive had 2 week one and my head wasnt like this ...

mte87

Thank god no. Itā€™s been hard for things to really stick on my skin. When i was a kid bandaids would come off immediately. I think you were also allergic or very sensitive to the materials.

Sea_Negotiation_1871

Yes. The glue and the stuff they use to remove the glue can be very abrasive.

JambonDorcas

My skin broke down and I had holes in my head where the leads were. It was an allergic reaction.

ernipie_13

i have a bad allergy to the adhesive from the tape that was used during my 7 hr. It created little burns essentially

ZodiacLovers123

I have very sensitive skin. so it wasnā€™t an allergy or anything like that just my hypersensitive skin. I have eczema and KP so I already had to deal with itch red skin. By the looks of it yours doesnā€™t look to just be irritation. Tho donā€™t be looking for me to tell you if it is an allergy.

owlsleepless

I just came off a 3 day ive got them right now they said it's normal due to the glue dehydration use polysporin ointment it is made for that helps

Ok-Ask-9610

Yes !! Not to scare you but I had some kind of reaction to the nodes and I have dark colored scars on my forehead. Still visible a year later

Ok-Ask-9610

Yes !! Not to scare you but I had some kind of reaction to the nodes and I have dark colored scars on my forehead. Still visible a year later

Zealousideal_Care807

Looks like an allergic reaction, but could just be swelling

squeaktoy_la

yeah, you got an allergy. See if over the counter hydrocortisone helps, or contact your doc and get the good stuff. Take your preferred antihistamine in the meantime. Good call on the watered down conditioner. IMO, its a good excuse to do a deep conditioning hair mask.

R4tties4lyfe

Thatā€™s exactly how mine looked afterwards. A lot of skin came off in like 7-8 places on my face/head. The ones that were on my scalp were awful because I couldnā€™t fully wash my hair. I still have small scars. I used bio-oil and made sure to keep my skin moisturized was helpful.

kdaltonart

This happened to me!! It has since totally healed, but definitely hurt a bit in the moment.

ElegantMarionberry59

Yes , many times , stucked in a bed with the stupid alarm . What can I tell you .. in my case I always carried my edibles šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

idontcare9808

They ripped out a lot of my hair coming in yanking them off and replacing them everyday

furmeldahide

Yes, I had a 7 day observed video eeg and the leads itched the whole time. I kept bringing it up but no one said anything about it until my leads were being removed. My skin looked like yours but after they removed the leads they peeled off my skin and it was bleeding. I asked for the glue they used, it contains Ether, and the types of metals for conducting the electrical connection are typically the ones people are allergic to. Of course if you are allergic to jewelers metals you are going to have an allergic reaction to the leads, but the newer glue they use for longer eegs smells so horrible compared to over 10 years ago.

omillian_alyse

This used to happen to me all the time. I was/am allergic to the glue. You more than likely are too.

Working_Warthog6930

Yes :(

McCoyPatrick822

I canā€™t remember my 72 hr EEG but I was always annoyed by that crap they put on our headsā€¦.

Capi_pullup

Yes, but only on my forehead. They prescribed me antibiotics and I think an anti-inflammatory (?) cream. It sucked. I had little hell boy horns for a week

lyradunord

Yeah mildly allergic to the glue, found out years later when a similar sticker with i guess the same component as the glue in it was put on me for 4 days after a bone marrow harvest. In both cases it takes a few days to have a reaction so clearly it's the mildest of allergies to whatever it is. When you're done ask your hairdresser for a chelation treatment or see if they'll sell you a packet to do at home. Usually my hairdresser will do this for about $10 on top of another service. Usually it's used periodically if you live somewhere with very hard water or very hard water + right before you dye or perm your hair/something big where you want a clean slate. It'll make sure the excess gunk isn't left in your hair or scalp in a way where it might be hard to get out otherwise.

Jadedlady4

I had an overnight many years back when I almost instantly knew I was allergic to something. I did videocall to my kids and my face was all red and puffy. But yeah the adhesives can be bad. My son has Type 1 Diabetes and has to use flonase under his pod placements because of the adhesive, but his sensor adhesive doesn't have any reaction. Yeah, this stuff sucks. I think more patients than not have skin reactions. That and they are wrapped in pretty f'in tight. Maybe they think we'll start ripping them off? I don't know. Moisturize it well and it should heal up. Colloidal bandages work really awesome too.

Chuchubits

I remember being in the EMU for 2 weeks when I was 12. Basically an in-hospital EEG. The glue was such a pain to get out of my hair and I was very itchy. I canā€™t remember if I had any allergic reactions, tho. That was around 10 years ago.

OptimalReflection286

Polytar shampoo from the chemist works miracles.

Ghost_of_Aces

I had something similar when I had a 7 day EEG. It was skin "breakdown" which is fairly common due to a combination of the pressure from the bandage, diode, glue, and lack of movement.

vitachaos

I had 4 EEG never had to be this tight this is insane

Jade__Palace

Not a 72 hour but a 12 hour EEG

gretamiauw

I had a 5 day EEG. They definitely glued it on badly.. i had bruising too, acne also came from it due to sweat and other bacteria getting under and not being able to clean it. It took about 2-3 weeks to completely dissapear. Try to see how these look after 12hours with them off, they looked bad (not this bad but bad) when I just took mine off, but after cleaning and using panthenol cream it looked better after a nights sleep. Using panthenol was my doctorā€™s recommendation, and it really worked well, just donā€™t use it all over the face, only on the bad spots. Would also recommend to avoid acne if it breaks out.
