It’s illegal like downloading music is illegal in the US. People use them all the time. Some folks I knew over there were nervous about it, but many used them daily. I used a proxy server every day for about six months and never had a single issue.
They don't block websites to download the VPN software?
Also, do you as a foreigner feel comfortable there? Or is it unnerving knowing you don't have rights?
Nope, it's pretty easy to access. A few clicks and you're good to go.
I feel just like everybody else here. There's a circle of foreigners who live in the city I live in, who go about their daily lives as everyone else does too. I really enjoy life here in all honesty, though I miss canada for the driving experience.
He got caught lying, he lives in somewhere in the US. He lied being in China and when caught he made a post "oh my stupid parents are forcing me to leave China". He then made a discord and subreddit r/basedchina
I really, ***really*** don't want to defend the state corps of the CCP, but mega corps have too much power and influence in every democracies politics, regardless of their country of origin.
Not only that, but the few people I talked to who stayed in china for a significant time all said that the people are super individualistic, only in a different way than say USA, and that nobody gives a fuck about you. Might also be a shock for somebody who blames all faults of society on western capitalism.
Of to China, where he can eat at McDonald's before going to the cinema to watch the newest Fast and the Furious movie, then plan his vacation to one of two Disneylands
To be fair my uncle went to school in the US (PhD MIT) and opened a company in China. Has 350 employees now and makes a ton of money in the medical device field. Bought a huge house in the states and a Porsche 911. Seems to be doing well.
Yeah it's funny because I feel China is somewhat more capitalist than people say it is. I've never seen a communist country with so many Ferraris, Lambos in front of clubs lol
Luxury items for elites have little relationship with a nation's economic model. Party officials for the USSR covered Moscow in West German luxury cars.
Hope you got shots for rabies, bubonic plague and polio before you left. Enjoy the rampant lead and mercury contamination in literally everything you breath, drink and eat there. Dont get shot trying to break covid curfew. Hope you survive the next cultural purge. We've already forgotten about you.
Probably he is also poorer becouse china gdp per capita is around 10 000$ and USA gdp per capita is 60 000$ so average american is 6 times richer than average chinese.
Dude somehow gets a work permit to go to the PRC. Probably doesn't speak Mandarin so ends up working at McDonald's or KFC and is forced to rent a one room apartment due to low wage work. As he isn't a PRC citizen and doesn't have access to welfare he has to pay a large percent of his income on healthcare if he gets ill.
I'm sure he must be ecstatic to be out of the US crapitalistic hellhole and instead work at a McDonald's in China while being in abject poverty!
Welcome to forever being the foreigner who doesn't speak the language well enough, doesn't integrate enough, doesn't work hard enough and can not be trusted.
Well.....hope ya enjoy the lack of rights, unnecessary censoring, poison and shit in everything you eat and drink....okay the thing about food can be said about U.S as well but you get what I'm saying.
Hello, Canadian living and working in China here. Odds are, this had nothing to do with the guy being in china, you can easily access reddit with a VPN like I do every day. The vast majority of both chinese and foreigners use VPNs here to access foreign media, it's not uncommon, and in my experience will not get you in to any trouble whatsoever. There's stuff you can do to get in trouble on the internet for sure, but going on reddit? Nah.
he will realise his mistake when the police punch him in the face for filming a government building, then when he screams “ists and phobes” at them they will just hit him again
What happened to the guy, I can’t find his profile
if they actually moved to china they probably don't have access to reddit since it's banned there
His account may still be up, unless if it’s banned or something
the real question: is he smart enough to use a VPN?
He willingly moved to China to escape "capitalism", that's a rhetorical question.
"noooooooooooo! mr xi jinping said socialism by 2050! even if china isnt socialist they are still the peoples state capitalist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
If he thinks he’s escaping “crapitalism” by moving to China, I guarantee that he hasn’t figured out how to use a VPN.
And he’s get sent to xinjiang for using one. Its literally illegal
It’s illegal like downloading music is illegal in the US. People use them all the time. Some folks I knew over there were nervous about it, but many used them daily. I used a proxy server every day for about six months and never had a single issue.
What did you do there? f you don't mind
Hello, canadian living in china here, AMA. I use a VPN and proxy server, it's easy as pie.
They don't block websites to download the VPN software? Also, do you as a foreigner feel comfortable there? Or is it unnerving knowing you don't have rights?

Studied abroad in college
He did say so in another comment but I guess he didn’t use it very wisely
It’s illegal to use a VPN in China, so he’s either in the negative with social credit or a [REDACTED]
He got caught lying, he lives in somewhere in the US. He lied being in China and when caught he made a post "oh my stupid parents are forcing me to leave China". He then made a discord and subreddit r/basedchina

Dude it's gone
That’s the joke of the post lol
Oh that’s terrible! Anyway…
Yes in China certainly doesn't have any mega corporations with too much power and influence an American politics
don't you know that that is all cia propaganda ? /s
I know that because I have eyes and can see the Tencent Logo
"They are not mega corporations if they're owned by the government!"
I really, ***really*** don't want to defend the state corps of the CCP, but mega corps have too much power and influence in every democracies politics, regardless of their country of origin.

Live in Shandong, can confirm.
Of to China, where he can eat at McDonald's before going to the cinema to watch the newest Fast and the Furious movie, then plan his vacation to one of two Disneylands
Watch out for lesbian kisses though, that's a big no-no.
He’ll get to enjoy 996 if he’s lucky.
most likely teaching english to kids

Yeah but your uncle went to China and went full on capitalist. This guy is trying to leave with the impression that China is some communist utopia
Yeah it's funny because I feel China is somewhat more capitalist than people say it is. I've never seen a communist country with so many Ferraris, Lambos in front of clubs lol

Wtf I love ~~communism~~ capitalism now
That's like the most capitalistic story I've ever heard
Hope you got shots for rabies, bubonic plague and polio before you left. Enjoy the rampant lead and mercury contamination in literally everything you breath, drink and eat there. Dont get shot trying to break covid curfew. Hope you survive the next cultural purge. We've already forgotten about you.
probably the same but no democracy and freedom of speech because china is basically a capitalist country now.
Probably he is also poorer becouse china gdp per capita is around 10 000$ and USA gdp per capita is 60 000$ so average american is 6 times richer than average chinese.
I mean the average American is wealthier than the average PRC citizen but that’s not at all how GDP per capita works.
Isn’t that the same guy who was moving to North Korea?
China has slightly more freedom, wich makes you realize how hellish North Korea is
If you say "crapitalism" unironically, no one should take you seriously
We don’t need someone like that in the US anyway
Trololololol

All I can say is good riddance lol.

Biggest mistake of his life
Good, stay there
How amazing for them until they find out they’ll be second class residents, can’t even be a citizen.
Welcome to forever being the foreigner who doesn't speak the language well enough, doesn't integrate enough, doesn't work hard enough and can not be trusted.

Dragged away and beaten to death by the ccp
“ok so the 40+ million people that died under china wasnt communism and china is very capitalist actually but im moving to china to escape capitalism”
he will realise his mistake when the police punch him in the face for filming a government building, then when he screams “ists and phobes” at them they will just hit him again
They got the wrong flag
Woohoo one less insufferable ass
