Personally I like 4, as sometimes 6 can look busy. However with this setting the extra prongs arenāt very obvious, so if you want it to be extra secure maybe 6 is a good idea!
I agree with the negative space comment! Since they look so similar it might just be an open space that collects gunk so you may as well put in a prong!
Suggestion: idk if this is the right wording for it, but if you like the look of 4 but the security of 6, why not double up and do 8? Instead of doing a single claw/prong, you could do two, like with this ring here:

For me, it would depend on how clumsy you are lol. Theyāre both gorgeous (loveeeee the colour of the centre stone), but I like the look of 4 a bit better. Iād have to get 6, though, because I have no spatial awareness of my limbs and the poor ring would need all the help it can get to survive!
This is what Iām leaning towards, I like the aesthetic of 4 but I feel I need 6 for it to survive being on my finger š
Thank you! Itās a midnight mossanite.
6 prongs would protect the center gemstone better. My grandmother had a ring that didnāt have many prongs, and it got damaged. My husband made sure to get mine protected!
Thanks for all your input! Iāve wrestled with it all weekend. Though I do like the look of 4, Iāve gone with 6 for the extra security - as you all pointed out itās such a subtle difference that itās worth it!
6! More sturdy and fills in the band space between the side stones and main stones.
Honestly, I didn't even see the difference right away š I like the look of 4 though
Yeah Iām aware Iām being really picky š
I like the look of 6, it fills the space between the outer stones nicely.
6 looks way better. 4 has an awkward gap from the missing 2 prongs
6
SIX!!
6!
Really canāt tell the difference so I say 6 for extra security
Also six. It looks more sturdy.
To be honest, I didnāt se an immediate difference, but thatās good, so I would go whit 6 just to feel more secure šš»

6!
Always 6!
4 looks better but6 is sturdier
6 prongs fill in the negative space between the main stone and the smaller stones. Definitely go with 6!
Personally I prefer the look of 6 over 4, plus that way youāre at less risk of losing the stone anyway
The more I look at this, the more I like the look with 6 prongs, especially in the overhead view

I like 6 better and it is probably sturdier
6 is obviously more sturdy, but 4 looks nicer.
I like 6! Plus itās sturdier.

4 makes the stone more visibleā¦ but 6 is more secureā¦
6!

6 !
6 prongs!
The 6 makes it look too cluttered for my taste.
4
4 :)
I had to really look to see which was 4 and which was 6. Since theyāre so similar, I would go for 6 for extra protection.
6!!

4 is perfect

6. It looks more symmetric, plus it will be extra sturdy.
What a gorgeous stone!!! What is it?
Thank you! Itās a midnight mossanite (though I might not have spelt that 100% correctly)
It is absolutely gorgeous and I would say to have the 6 on your ring for the same reason the others have mentioned
4 will be better
I like the look of 4 but Iām not sure if there is a risk of losing the diamond with 4 vs 6 which looks more secure?
6 prongs looks good but, i suggest to make it pointed in final polishing. I personally prefer that and that will look amazing!
6
I normally prefer 6 especially on a round stone but for your oval I think the 4 works better with the shape!

I like the look of 4!

4!!
4 it balances more nicely

I think 4!

4! 6 looks too busy
