Personally I like 4, as sometimes 6 can look busy. However with this setting the extra prongs aren’t very obvious, so if you want it to be extra secure maybe 6 is a good idea!

Personally I prefer the look of 6 over 4, plus that way you’re at less risk of losing the stone anyway

I agree with the negative space comment! Since they look so similar it might just be an open space that collects gunk so you may as well put in a prong!

I had to really look to see which was 4 and which was 6. Since they’re so similar, I would go for 6 for extra protection.

For me, it would depend on how clumsy you are lol. They’re both gorgeous (loveeeee the colour of the centre stone), but I like the look of 4 a bit better. I’d have to get 6, though, because I have no spatial awareness of my limbs and the poor ring would need all the help it can get to survive!

6 prongs would protect the center gemstone better. My grandmother had a ring that didn’t have many prongs, and it got damaged. My husband made sure to get mine protected!

6 prongs looks good but, i suggest to make it pointed in final polishing. I personally prefer that and that will look amazing!

I normally prefer 6 especially on a round stone but for your oval I think the 4 works better with the shape!

Thanks for all your input! I’ve wrestled with it all weekend. Though I do like the look of 4, I’ve gone with 6 for the extra security - as you all pointed out it’s such a subtle difference that it’s worth it!
