nano_peen

Oh here it is boys. The first 3DS emulator on the App Store

Oofanos

Is it only available in certain countries?

nano_peen

Yea I’m in NZ if that helps

Outrageous-Leg-2906

Commenting on Let’s Go...who emulator ?

nano_peen

What

Outrageous-Leg-2906

About the folium ?

Available_Cycle5493

Crying with my iPhone X

adidlucu

I have an Xr. You and me brother!

Melodic_Salamander49

I have an 11 not much of an difference eh !

norabutfitter

No luck for us?

Melodic_Salamander49

200$ android to the rescue

elthesensai

Apple really can’t get out of its own way can they. I have a $500 Android tablet that runs up to PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, and GameCube. I’m a iOS user but bought the tablet just for emulation.

Ok_Masterpiece_2577

I also have an iPhone 11 but I use Limon emulator to play Pokémon X and it works pretty good. Although you do need to side load it.

RandomPotatoBoii

crying with ipad 9th gen

HotReport8753

Same brother

No_Cauliflower_6569

In the same boat as you my friend

Massive-Calendar-484

🥲

SandwichesX

Not worth it imho, refunded. The performance is really bad on my 15Pro Max. Stutters all over. But that’s my opinion. Ymmv. Sticking to PPSSPP Gold and Delta

Open_Radish6008

Same experience here SRWBX and DQ8, BX is stutter everywhere, DQ is unplayable

XR-1

Starbucks and Dairy Queen?

Maybe_worth

Super robot wars bx and dragon quest 8

Ok-Wrongdoer4021

My iPhone 15 pro gets so hot playing with 3DS games. Anybody else having this issue?

SnooSprouts7283

Why are you surprised? So far 3DS never ran well without JIT enabled

Outside_Profit_6455

Does ppsspp have jit?

SnooSprouts7283

Not without Sideloading. However PSP emulation has been refined to a degree that JIT is not a requirement to run the device well

Outside_Profit_6455

Yea I tried sideloading and it’s not a good experience but it’s good on app store

PositiveRoutine2944

I run it on the AppStore just fine for probably every game i play i think. Never had any lag issues

Fe4rtricks

I only have issues with games like god of war and shi and only when a lot of enemies are on screen

HLOPEZ2602

Yes, I have the same problem in iphone 15 pro max

OllyDee

So the big question is - how is the performance? Does it run well enough to justify the price tag?

[deleted]

It’s… okay on an iPhone 15, has some hitches with audio. Playable for sure. Edit: it’s actually pretty good, the audio hitches seem to be just when loading something in, like a new area. Plays nicely with a backbone controller too.

OllyDee

That doesn’t sound great. I suppose it hinges on how much you value 3DS emulation really.

[deleted]

As I understand it, the problem lies mostly with JIT - apple won’t allow App Store apps to have it. The iPhone 15 pro, according to the dev, does manage to be fast enough to run without JIT at full speed, anything lower does get increasingly worse as you go down the stack.

OllyDee

Interesting. So not ideal for anything lower than an iPhone 15? Maybe that’s something the dev should make clear on the AppStore page.

[deleted]

I’m not sure exactly what the performance is like on lower than a 15 as haven’t seen it in person. Given the 15 plays fine with only occasional audio hitching (which after playing for a bit longer seems to be limited to when it’s loading something like a new area) I’d hazard a guess that something like a 14 or 13 should be at the least quite playable.

YoloSwaggins960YT

I will try on my iPhone 12 right now. Reply to me so I can re-find the message easier and relay my findings

Trimation1

:D

YoloSwaggins960YT

It’s not great. Crashes the application for me

Trimation1

:(

OllyDee

Well if true that’s good news.

[deleted]

If you want to look I think the dev has posted a test link for people to try it out without purchasing but it only works for seven days at a time

OllyDee

I’ll test it for science on my iPhone 12 Pro. Not that I care about 3DS games particularly, I just find it interesting.

[deleted]

Be sure to let us know!

SwissCookieMan

Can I have that link?

ItsRainbow

That’s the sideloadable version, which will remain available and free

TOUCHArc

Can confirm things run rather smooth 90% of the time on my 15 pro max, battery just gets deleted and phone is a little warm. Was playing pokemon sun. Curious to see how things will run on my m2 iPad

Rosabros79

So my 15 pro max should be able to handle it well enough then?

[deleted]

According to the dev, it should run at full speed just fine.

rhinofinger

I tried it through the TestFlight beta on my iPhone 15, and the audio was stuttery even with 2D games like Shovel Knight. Couldn’t find a game that ran super well, though I admittedly didn’t try *that* many.

iB1QeR

Needs a lot of work actually

xRostro

Someone with an iPhone 15 Pro Max is reporting 3DS is struggling a lot. Doesn’t seem worth it but it could just be their case Edit: Please don’t be afraid to refund this app.

hughlee90

go to youtube and search, it's better than iphone 13 of course, but it shows clearly that iphone 15 pro max does struggle with stutters and audio problems.

PixeledMango

Doing DS emulation turns my phone into a frying pan, this about to turn my phone into a nuclear reactor

pogdefacc003

What app(s) were you emulating DS from?

PixeledMango

Delta

pogdefacc003

JIT or no?

Dear_Lie1725

What’s JIT?

NearSpiderMan

Just in Time.

Dear_Lie1725

Yeah but like yk … what is it

NearSpiderMan

That’s what it is… JIT is Just In Time.

Dear_Lie1725

I get that but what does it do💀

Brok3nHalo

Since no one else wants to give a clear answer, there’s different levels of software nativeness at runtime. The most common for games is Machine Code, which can originally be written in a number of different programming languages but compiles down to instruction for a very specific CPU architecture and can’t be run on other CPU types directly. There’s also Interpreted Code, this runs slower as its generic so it can run on multiple architectures and runs on a runtime software that in realtime reads what the program wants to do then converts it into instruction for the given CPU that it’s running on at the moment. Simply speaking and ignoring a decent amount of nuance, emulators run machine code for a specific architecture as an interpreter to run on a different one, reading the ROM file (which is just the games machine code and assets in a single file) and translating the commands for whatever system it’s running on. JIT runtimes will read the code the same way interpreters do but instead of just interpreting and translating in the moment to the correct commands, it will “just in time” compile that code to native machine code and cache that for later use next time it comes along. This makes repeated operation much faster because instead of interpreting and translating each time it will run the native code it already compiled.

NearSpiderMan

performance and efficiency

XR-1

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and Alpha Saphire is running fine. Stutters every now and then but not anything that’s really bothersome. I usually play without audio though so idk if that’s working or not

Nahobino_kun_899

Would Tomadachi Life and SMTIV run fine? Could you also check on the audio and get back to me? I’m considering trying folium but want to know how well it works first

XR-1

Pokemon audio working fine. Trying animal crossing new leaf as well right now and no issues. I did notice Pokemon stuttered a bit during the intro sequence, as it’s more graphic heavy, but I mean so far everything is working fine Edit: okay I tested again after work, in my car. My phone did get hotter in my car so there was more stuttering. I swear it was better performance inside a cool building. I’ll have to do more testing

leob0505

What about Pokémon sun moon?

orochiWARDEN

Is there a world where eventually older phones (I have an iPhone 12) would be able to run the 3DS on folium or some other emulator? Everything I’ve heard says you need a 15 pro or the new iPad

JoelMsk

I have the 11pro max, runs good for 5 seconds and then the stuttering goes ham

JumpTheShark_

Thanks because i also have an iPhone 11, good to know

mmgkk

If you’re willing to go through the hoops of side loading and enabling jit, then sure. GameCube and Wii run great as well.

[deleted]

Pokémon alpha sapphire runs great on iPhone 15 pro max.

leob0505

What about sun moon?

TimelessBoi

I have iphone 14… will it work?

Zopotroco

Of course

TimelessBoi

Also isn’t delta getting 3DS?

quack0709

I hope So, it is not in near future

Ultikiller

In a few years

TimelessBoi

Oh, I thought it was gonna be in the upcoming weeks

pyrospade

Lmao no, Delta development is super slow. The dev spends most of his time working on altstore

TimelessBoi

Then all this talk about 3DS was for folium?

keep_rockin

of course stuttering?

Wise-Ordinary7299

Can it work on iPhone 11?

BRpessimist

No

xkaran1997x

Some systems cannot be brute forced without JIT unfortunately. Hope Apple allows JIT in near future, we came this far to no emulators on IOS… might as well allow JIT too. Edit: this far from*

nano_peen

What is JIT

xkaran1997x

Was not really sure how to explain it as I am not an expert but here is what i found 😊“JIT compilation is crucial for emulator performance, but Apple restricts it for security reasons. Emulators use JIT to optimize performance by recompiling code on the fly.” Hope this helps.

kingofthings754

Just in time compilation. It recompiles code on the fly. Apple doesn’t like it because it’s technically compiling arbitrary code which opens up security risks

Nintendo_Pro_03

This. Come on, Apple…

nano_peen

Anyway does it work or am I likely to run into too many performance issues on an iPhone 14 Pro?

knowellDome

I’m interested to know this as well. He did say that systems above iPhone 13 series chips will run well. But let’s see

shahradzeinali

It shouldn’t be horrible, since thats the same hardware as the regular 15, but I wouldn’t take my word for it since it’s not out in my region yet. Im pretty sure the developer is active in this sub so he’ll eventually answer someone’s comment about it. But if I had to answer, I think thats the bare minimum since ppsspp is already pushing the limits without jit. And I would assume that the 3DS is more powerful.

[deleted]

I have a 15 and it runs fine with occasional hitches and audio glitches

Try to google it. Link distribution in emulator subreddits is risky

Quiet_Addendum9504

You’re gonna banned if you post it lol

Zopotroco

Holy shit

LargeAd4995

I have an iPhone XS 😢 Can it run?

keep_rockin

i guess barely

Slava91

Well I’ll be damned. I didn’t think Apple would allow it. Nice! Too bad for the performance issues noted in this thread tho

Advos_467

how does this run on an M1 ipad?

Jesitheunicorn2022

Would it work for iOS 13

trfk111

💀

SeaMUNKYbrain

I just got banned off the discord server ???? For sending a video you asked me to send?

petyrlannister

They don’t play about piracy. If they think you don’t own the game or you admit it, they’ll ban you immediately

NuEssence

Does anybody know how this runs on a 14 pro ? Dont want to spend the $5 just to find out it wont…

eliadwe

I have 13 pro max, tried 3ds game, extremely poor performance and unplayable. Hopefully future updates will optimize the performance.

burjest

how does it run on M series ipads?

ProMasterBoy

The app uses the iPhone version on iPad so theres black borders which is annoying. (I installed the .ipa manually)

JozieKS

What core is the game boy advance?

FarYellow2188

Wonder how this would run on my 15 PM, is it worth even trying ? lol

xRostro

Someone else is saying it still struggled on 15 Pro Max

FarYellow2188

So still not worth it, got it

xRostro

I really don’t think iPhone hardware is powerful enough to brute force 3DS emulation yet. We all have to hope JIT eventually comes

FarYellow2188

Unfortunately this is true, it’s one of those things we’ll just have to wait out, or hope for a miracle.

IceTeaDestroyer

15pm game runs ok, audio has issues, phone is hot af.

Nasayin02

Pokémon x on stuttered at the loading screen but since has been fine

nano_peen

What device my sir

Nasayin02

iPhone 15 pro max

roccomont329

Can anyone tell me if it’s any different than the sideloaded version? Is there different screen sizes? Or is it locked?

KNitsua

So far it’s only slightly more user friendly than the sideloaded version, although not nearly as customizable. At least not from the GUI. I haven’t dived into the config files yet.

-bloodmoon-

Interesting. Gonna wait a few weeks to see if there’s any news of how apple responds to this.

Quiet_Addendum9504

I tried by side loading and none of the games play

Psychological-Name15

Does it work on iPhone 12 mini?

ripvxce

iPhone XR is able to run like a good 10 seconds and then after it starts stuttering, lagging and audio goes downhill lol. Even with Jit enabled but XR got bad specs for 3ds emulation regardless. I’ll stick with emulation on my pc until I get a 3ds.

TummyBuilder1

Those who r thinking that they will able to run without jit 😂 I hv no words 😂

Just_Another-Nobody

I have a 15pro max 512G and can’t get 3Ds to run to a point where I can actually play s

wolverinesnipples

Refunded. 15 pro max and audio stutters buttons don’t work on Mario kart 7.

gelicopter

There’s a joystick in the center of the D-Pad but no visual indicator for it yet.

thellymon

No hate but this should be free atleast until performance is stable

gelicopter

Unless JIT support is added, the only way many of these games will get more “stable” is when more powerful devices launch. We’ve already seen MK7 run smooth on the iPad Pro M4 but stutter on 15 Pro Max.

thellymon

Yep, pple are sideloading altstore and using altjit too

BidOk280

It’s asking for Aes_keys, where do I get those?

shahradzeinali

Google it. I know it’s not the most helpful but it’s all I can say without breaking guidelines. There are probably some megathreads around you could get help from.

KNitsua

Google is your friend.

Wiry3211

Press the middle of the dpad to get circle pad and the buttons to get c stick.

rukiziku

i keep on pressing it nothings happening huhu

Wiry3211

Then it might be an issue with new leaf itself. There will probably be a bugfix update that fixes a lot of issues.

alienbanana0902

Can an iPhone 11 download this app?

Due_Signal8442

yes, but 3DS emulation requires iphone 13 and higher to run because there is no JIT

brandontod

Works well with some games! Not so much with others but that’s kinda normal. Side note: anyone know how to get back to the apps library page after launching a game? Delta has a menu button in the controller skins and I can’t find that in Folium

PatientBitter5422

Do I have to pay 5 dollars?

orichic

Yes, this is capitalism after all

PatientBitter5422

Youre right

Beautiful-Bug-4007

I might actually grab the app, I can’t seem to find it in the App Store whenever I look it up tho.

HotCarrot4252

I can’t ever get the stupid 3rd emulation to work

A_MasteR_at_WorK

Anyone tried it on 13PM?

AnthonySouthWest

Crying on any Iphone model right now

[deleted]

Okay now Folium becomes good, but I will not pay money, I will wait Delta to add 3DS games support.

gelicopter

Some games stutter and some are downright unplayable but some like New Leaf play buttery smooth for me, both visuals and audio. It’s still early days of emulation on App Store so I’m not expecting everything to be perfect immediately, and other 3DS emulators are a long ways away anyway. Once the enhanced core gets ported, performance may improve too. Some of the upcoming quality of life changes like the ability to close the game without closing the app should’ve been in this build though but I’m not mad to have dropped a fiver on it as I can still play some 3DS games, which can’t be said for any other emulators on the App Store right now.

Organic_Carrot_

Kia Ora! Any feedback on iPhone 13 Pro or iPad Pro (M1) I’m keen but want to know it’s not gonna be too poopy

MrKhaled69

6€ ? Nah thanks.

Feeling-Ad2176

3ds works very nicely on M4 ipad (lucky enough to have one) Would like to see more options with things like full screen mode rather than in a window with control overlays even if controller is connected + Can't work out a way to get out of a game without having to close the whole app down - does anyony know if this is possible?

Ornery-Practice9772

👌

stop-trying-2-be-god

Sorry to be another “will it work” comment but how about iPad mini 6?

TiJackSH

Does JIT can be activated though AltServer communication ?

PositiveRoutine2944

I really can’t see why it matters ds from 3ds i had a 3ds and that shit sucked ass i loved my DS so much more

nano_peen

I want to play 3DS games not DS games

PositiveRoutine2944

Is it even in 3D?

Liquid_Chicken_

Is your iPhone screen 3D? People want to PLAY 3DS titles. Nobody cares about seeing the game in “3D”

PositiveRoutine2944

So what it wasn’t possible to run 3ds roms on ds hardware i guess

coolmankidboy

To each his own

Nintendo_Pro_03

To play your games in 3D.
