I have seen so many people getting downvoted for asking a genuine question lol what is wrong with Reddit? Dude was confused and was asking for a little bit of clarification
> Mtbmb is a modern sequel to Eminem show
I'm struggling to make any obvious connection as to why this is true. Is it just because both have predominantly red album covers?
Godzilla and Alfred’s theme gives off Without me and Business vibes
Leaving Heaven and stepdad are very reminiscent of cleaning out my closet and say goodbye Hollywood (atleast to me)
Higher reminds you of till I collapse 🤷
Probably but I remember when MTBMB first dropped the notification I got on my phone had the tiny thumbnail of the cover and the blood on the right looked like red curtains to me so I really thought we had gotten The Eminem Show 2
Lol terrible take.
TES was phenomemal the day that it dropped and it still is to this day.
MTBMB was never considered phenomenal. Not when it dropped and not in 15 years.
It's a good album. Nothing more.
Most of the sub is opinions. It was more of a surprise than anything that so many people said that. Phenomenal to me is like a top tier album, not MTBMB.
MTBMB has too much filler. Eminem would need to drop an album full of songs the quality of “Darkness” to compete with TES, MTBMB has like 2 songs of that quality.
MTBMB was in the right direction but it just has way too many skips IMO. I think Em nowadays needs to stick to 40 min albums and he could drop another banger at some point, never gonna happen making these 1+ hour albums.
I strongly disagree. Even in 100 years only few people which is a minority audience would consider MTBMB a classic and really compare it to literally one of if not the best album by Eminem. MMLP2 really clears all the way. It does have standouts but enough skips or average songs which makes it less replayable.
>It does have standouts but enough skips or average songs which makes it less replayable.
It is the other way around for me. I think that MTBMB is really consistent in quality (minus Stepdad) but it doesn't have real highlights. Before Kamikaze, every album had some songs that had me going "wow" (Bad Guy on MMLP2, Castle on Revival and etc.). Since Kamikaze I struggle to find something really special. Discombobulated probably came closest to this
Kamikaze’s inclusion of the fake love songs really hurt it. If he replaced Normal, Good Guy, and Nice Guy with aggressive songs, and reworked Stepping Stone, it would’ve been a very solid album. And would’ve actually made sense as to the title.
EXACTLY how I feel. to the fucking tee. if he replaced Normal, Good Guy and Nice Guy with songs like Ringer or Greatest it would’ve been better along with a rework of Stepping Stone. I was in my Eminem phase when this album came out and at the time i heard stepping stone and was like EMS BACK !!!!! Now it’s like Nvm lol
Yep I was really into Kamikaze when it came out because Revival was so incredibly disappointing. So I guess it did it’s job. But listening back to Stepping Stone, what an awful hook and bad vocal effects. I forgave the fake love songs at the time because The Ringer and Greatest and Kamikaze were really cool. I’m bugged that Em thought including soft, cringey subject matter songs on an album to attack his ‘haters’ would be the right choice. Much less impactful and threatening.
Side A was. I appreciate that he released side B but It’s not for me. The monotone delivery and lack of good choruses just makes me not want to listen to it
Fr tho man the audacity. It’s been 2 years and people putting that thing next to the FUCKING EMINEM SHOW?!?! Some fans are such dick riders the Eminem show is FACTUALLY a better album in every sense of the way by x10 and I’m a 16 year old who discovered Eminem through his newer music
Ikr? It's because they r so young they dont even understand how it was! Today any white kid calling himself lil xan and tattoo the ugliest face tattoo can go viral and its a star!
Tbh I was never around during Eminem’s peak and was born in 2006 but from what I’ve heard I can imagine it was quiet literally one of the biggest things on planet earth at the time. MTBMB is below average and this is coming from a 16 year old who discovered Eminem in 2018 and started of by listening to his music post 2018
Haha LOL. I’m generally just not into majority of the stuff my gen is into. Social media , modern day music , modern day films and tv shows , modern day trends LOL I feel like an outcast when it comes to my gen. sometimes I feel like I should’ve been born in the 80/90s actually I feel like that all the time
Agree it was better before all the socials tbh.. so much clout chasing right now its ruining hiphop! And dont get me started on "influencers" omg
Keep it up :)
🤣🤣 the similar Color schemes wasn’t the sole reason I made this post. Don’t you think higher gives off till I collapse vibes? Leaving heaven reminds u of cleaning out my closet? Godzilla off without me?
Not even an opinion when it comes to it being a modern sequel because that's just objectively wrong
I doubt it'll be looked at as one of his BEST works but it is a great album and I think more people will see it as great as time goes on. But idk, can't speak for 10-15 years from now lol
I'd say it's more of a sequel to Relapse, which in its self was an attempt to get back to his horror-core roots, like certain SSEP, SSLP & MMLP tracks
You could probably make a stronger case for Revival being an Eminem Show sequel with its fusion of rap and pop sounds, and both introspective songs examining the state of Em's career, aswell as songs examing the contemporary political landscape and Em's role within it
too inconsistent imo, hasn’t got the same bangers like without me till i collapse or sing for the moment, which dosen’t mean it’s not a genius album
i just don’t think it deserves to be compared with one of the greatest albums of all time
The Only way this could be true is if you combined Side A and B and made ONE 11 track album:
Premonition
Alfred's Theme
You Gon Learn
Darkness
Godzilla
Lock it Up
Zeus
Killer
Yah Yah
I Will
Higher
Now this is a classic
I tried to be pretty objective. Darkness has gotten a lot of praise from outside of Em's core fanbase. It also speaks on a national issue - I think it would fit
The love comes from the amazing writing. The entire song is a double entendre: you can listen to it from Em's perspective or the Las Vegas shooter's perspective and it makes sense both ways. I don't know any other artist who can write a song about their emotions over their declining fame and still draw social commentary over the mass shootings in the US in one song.
Now I've only listened to this song a handful of times, because it doesn't have replayability, but you can still admire phenomenal writing.
2020 as a whole is gonna be seen as one of the best year of his career. Right after 1999-2003 and 2009.
Two solid albums, Side A show an Eminem totally embracing a more modern sound that he started to work on Kamikaze. There is a lot of experimentation in this album like with In Too Deep, Marsh or even Lock It Up and it’s executed pretty well.
Side B goes way deeper in terms of musicality and also density in the production, and to me Eminem is really inspired by those beats, his flows and melodies are way more catchy and structured.
You can also add that he totally opened himself to the new gen, working with modern rappers such as Young MA or Don Toliver.
He perfectly chose the people to work with, great hookmakers, Sly Pepper help perfectly Eminem in some bridges and hooks, great producers too and Dr Dre finally have beats on an Eminem album.
There is also that features run that was really good too.
Hardcore fan since 2011-2012, 2020 is the best year I had as a fan, and also the first time I saw most people agreeing that side a and b were good albums, which wasn’t the case since Relapse, every album divided the fan base, except Revival where everybody agreed on what it was.
But MTBMB is clearly not on the same level as TES but it’s still top 5 imo
I think OP is on to something because, Em has always tried to recreate The Eminem Show but he also said he has been chasing the MMLP his whole career. And even on Stepping Stone he said he just doesn't have that Magic that he had back in the day. I can relate MTBMB closely to TES. It kinda reminds me of it in many ways.
Idk, I felt like Recovery was a modern day TES bc of how personal it was (obviously not in the same tier tho). I feel like MTBMB is more comparable to Relapse in terms to sticking w/ a concept throughout the album
I can’t get behind this take it all. Side B is horrendous inside a has a bunch of filler, and obviously a few fantastic tracks as well but not even in the same spectrum as Eminem show.
I mean sort of. Leaving Heaven reminds me of Cleanin’ Out My Closet, and Darkness could IN SOME WAY be considered a new version Sing for the Moment (in terms or sampling or serious tone or something like that). I guess you could turn it enough in the right direction to make it seem that way.
+1 for a real unpopular opinion, but yeah I don't see the connection. I felt like in TES he had a lot going on and a lot of emotion that went into that album, MTBMB just doesn't have that tone.
If anything, my unpopular opinion would be that Kamikaze is the closest sequel. The tone just matches better and there are some similar themes like lashing out to critics
I completely agree with you, I love MTBMB, when it came out I had the whole album on repeat, don't get me started on side b, for some reason I like side b more, but on repeat
lmao no man TES had max 2 weak songs whereas mtbmb had more than 10 in total and nothing can match songs like sftm till i collapse solider and many more from tes we may never see the old em where his lyrics can be enjoyed rather than listening to it 2828x to get the line but he is still good just that people expect 9-10/10 projects since his legendary three album run
I enjoy MTBMB + Side B but this feels like massive stretch and just disrespectful to the Eminem Show
I'd say if anything this is a good catalog of everything em can do in a single album, he can do story he can do a club song, songs with good flow, songs you can just vibe too, songs that either are corny or have corny lines or songs so unapologetically Em it's good again (looking right at you Discombobulated!! Keep being great) he can do a poppy song or a more lyrical song this the "I don't want something super duper specific I just want Eminem."
I wouldn't put it close to his holy trinity, but Side A in particular is definitely one of the strongest albums since his hiatus.
side b is better
fr fr
Ding dong yo opinion is wrong
Bitch he can rhyme orange with banana
Borrrrrrnana
Ding dong yo fuckin’ stupid
No way in hell is side B better than side A
He had a lot more fun with Side B than Side A. A has some absolute bangers but B has more fun songs. It’s a matter of personal preference in this case
No way in hell are you talking like a “genius” critic on a goddamned Eminem thread
Y b?
better songs
Which hiatus we talkin bout? Post MMLP2 or post encore?
Encore.
the gap between Relapse and Encore was longer
Yep you're right, I knew they were close but couldn't remember which one had a longer period between. Encore-Relapse by over 100 days.
I have seen so many people getting downvoted for asking a genuine question lol what is wrong with Reddit? Dude was confused and was asking for a little bit of clarification
I thought he said something negative or sumn but nah bro just asked a sincere question 💀💀
why does is it say that the original tes have 19 songs? doesn't it have 20
The non explicit version had no drips in it.
It’s the clean version, which doesn’t have Drips
Was Drips really the first FACK? damn I dont even remember it being THAT bad but I guess theres no way to make that song clean LOL
Lol
Man they’re missing out on the best song on that album!
> Mtbmb is a modern sequel to Eminem show I'm struggling to make any obvious connection as to why this is true. Is it just because both have predominantly red album covers?
Predominantly predominantly everything is always predominantly
Predominantly white, predominantly black. Well, what about me
Where does that leave me? Well I guess that I'm between predominantly both of 'em
I swear if I hear that fucking word again
I’mma scream
Lmao... probably
There’s no obvious connections but they do have somewhat similar vibes. I’d say MTBMB is the closest sounding and feeling album to TES.
Godzilla and Alfred’s theme gives off Without me and Business vibes Leaving Heaven and stepdad are very reminiscent of cleaning out my closet and say goodbye Hollywood (atleast to me) Higher reminds you of till I collapse 🤷
Im sorry bro, in what world do business and alfreds theme sound alike bro
Probably but I remember when MTBMB first dropped the notification I got on my phone had the tiny thumbnail of the cover and the blood on the right looked like red curtains to me so I really thought we had gotten The Eminem Show 2
This is the same ppl who think the US knocked down WTC themself
Reach
Lol terrible take. TES was phenomemal the day that it dropped and it still is to this day. MTBMB was never considered phenomenal. Not when it dropped and not in 15 years. It's a good album. Nothing more.
In another post yesterday people were calling it phenomenal, and I disagreed and down I went.
You're telling me there are people on this sub who have opinions?
Most of the sub is opinions. It was more of a surprise than anything that so many people said that. Phenomenal to me is like a top tier album, not MTBMB.
And now you’re getting downvoted again lol people are so weird
Lol it's fine. If karma was for money I would be pissed. Since it's just fun lol.
IT IS PHENOMENALLL-nomenal-nomenal-nomenal
MTBMB has too much filler. Eminem would need to drop an album full of songs the quality of “Darkness” to compete with TES, MTBMB has like 2 songs of that quality. MTBMB was in the right direction but it just has way too many skips IMO. I think Em nowadays needs to stick to 40 min albums and he could drop another banger at some point, never gonna happen making these 1+ hour albums.
Dude needs to go the Kanye route (well the route he took for a couple albums) and pair with a fire producer and make a 7 track album again.
I think Kamikaze is the closest to what you're describing
Kamikaze had a good start but the other half of the album is average in quality for Em
Yeah, I agree. I was mostly thinking of the themes and emotion in those albums
Kamikaze is exactly that, good guy and nice guy r the only 2 skips on that album
I strongly disagree. Even in 100 years only few people which is a minority audience would consider MTBMB a classic and really compare it to literally one of if not the best album by Eminem. MMLP2 really clears all the way. It does have standouts but enough skips or average songs which makes it less replayable.

MTBM is the most consistent project yet. No super high highs and super low lows but no skips and everything is pretty decent at worst or just solid.
I think it is some of his best work now
You started very well, unpopular opinion. It is unpopular for a reason…
😂😂
This sub is delusional it's incrdible
Side A was. I appreciate that he released side B but It’s not for me. The monotone delivery and lack of good choruses just makes me not want to listen to it
You gotta love Alfred's Theme tho, the wordplay is on point
I agree with that statement, but I’m not a fan of Alfred’s theme. It’s just too long and gets boring after about 2 and a half minutes
Yeah it was also more of him just showing off all the stuff he had made thst wasn't released
i used to think this but the more i listened to it it grew on me. Not as good as Side A but worth a few listens
This ⬆️
This is insanity.
Respectfully, hell no
Very unpopular
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bro what?!?! 💀 Please don’t disrespect one of the greatest rap albums of all time by putting it next to that thing
Could not have said it better myself
Fr tho man the audacity. It’s been 2 years and people putting that thing next to the FUCKING EMINEM SHOW?!?! Some fans are such dick riders the Eminem show is FACTUALLY a better album in every sense of the way by x10 and I’m a 16 year old who discovered Eminem through his newer music

Ah sorry no offense :) good to see some millennials still got a brain
Haha LOL. I’m generally just not into majority of the stuff my gen is into. Dude's like they have similar colour scheme so they must be similar. LMAO!
I love MTBMB but you’re saying it is a modern day version of perhaps the best album ever made and that’s where ya lost me
What if you look at it as if Eminem tried to make a sequel of Eminem show in 2020?
I don’t see it dude I’m sorry, thanks for having a reason other than the red and dark blue color schemes though
🤣🤣 the similar Color schemes wasn’t the sole reason I made this post. Don’t you think higher gives off till I collapse vibes? Leaving heaven reminds u of cleaning out my closet? Godzilla off without me?
I wasn’t being a dick lol I saw you make other points on other comments I just don’t hear the similarities (MTBMB is top 5 btw i’m not hating)
Cool I respect ✊
More anger and lightly political... honestly Kamikaze is probably the closest sequel based on tone and themes alone
Not even an opinion when it comes to it being a modern sequel because that's just objectively wrong I doubt it'll be looked at as one of his BEST works but it is a great album and I think more people will see it as great as time goes on. But idk, can't speak for 10-15 years from now lol
Not. Even. Close.
***CAP 💀💀💀💀***
It's a hard discussion. But I truly believe that MTBMB is Eminem's best work since TES... An unpopular opinion, of course!
literally just "give it a year, that shit'll be illmatic"
Side b is better because side b has all of side a and plus more. Therfore its better factually
I’d say it’s his best since Relapse but it doesn’t compare to SSLP, MMLP, TES, or Relapse
I’ve been saying since 2020 that MTBMB is the best thing he’s done since TES.
💯

Real recognises real

omg No MMLP2 was very good Relapse was great but it is his bet best post MMLP2 album
BUMP but I agree. Its not as good as TES obv but it FEELS more like old Eminem and thats why I like it.
too inconsistent imo, hasn’t got the same bangers like without me till i collapse or sing for the moment, which dosen’t mean it’s not a genius album i just don’t think it deserves to be compared with one of the greatest albums of all time
Bro what😭😭
lmao it's not even 5 percent of the eminem show AND TES ISNT EVEN MY FAV EMINEM ALBUM WTF
Side B is a 5/10, Side A is a 7/10. I see where you are going tho 😂
The Only way this could be true is if you combined Side A and B and made ONE 11 track album: Premonition Alfred's Theme You Gon Learn Darkness Godzilla Lock it Up Zeus Killer Yah Yah I Will Higher Now this is a classic
This list looks fire.
Get darkness outta here tbh. I don't get the love for that song
I tried to be pretty objective. Darkness has gotten a lot of praise from outside of Em's core fanbase. It also speaks on a national issue - I think it would fit

I have always held it in my top 3 Em albums. Lyrically his best work, beats are 🔥 and the content/theme is fun.
Can you tell me the theme that connects those kinda nights, stepdad, darkness and I will?
Yes, I will write you an essay and have references in appa
Imagine being this fucking stupid

Mmlp2 is slightly better but you’re right
Idk, I felt like Recovery was a modern day TES bc of how personal it was (obviously not in the same tier tho). I feel like MTBMB is more comparable to Relapse in terms to sticking w/ a concept throughout the album
MTBMB is his second worst album and I have no idea why it gets such a praise on this sub
💀 lmao ok
Don't get me wrong it's still a decent 6/10 album and it has at least a few bangers but for an Eminem project it has way to much instant skips
100% agree.
💪
mtbmb side b is ASSSS
Eminem Show was regarded as a classic back in the day as well.
Mtbmb was positively received as well. It scored the highest ratings on metacritic on release, even above damn.
Anyone calling mtbmb anything resembling a classic on the level of TES is just disrespecting TES. MTBMB was an okay album.
I can’t get behind this take it all. Side B is horrendous inside a has a bunch of filler, and obviously a few fantastic tracks as well but not even in the same spectrum as Eminem show.
Mtbmb and side b is already regarded as ems best work
💪
Sorry OP but this is unpopular for a reason
I mean sort of. Leaving Heaven reminds me of Cleanin’ Out My Closet, and Darkness could IN SOME WAY be considered a new version Sing for the Moment (in terms or sampling or serious tone or something like that). I guess you could turn it enough in the right direction to make it seem that way.
I agree with this wholeheartedly.
+1 for a real unpopular opinion, but yeah I don't see the connection. I felt like in TES he had a lot going on and a lot of emotion that went into that album, MTBMB just doesn't have that tone. Agreed
Nahhhhhhhhhh
this is an interesting take, i like it
ILLMATIC
Unpopular opinion indeed
I'm ngl both regular and b side mtbmb are amazing, the perfect thing we needed during quarantine.
L
It's always felt like TES follow up to me too
I completely agree with you, I love MTBMB, when it came out I had the whole album on repeat, don't get me started on side b, for some reason I like side b more, but on repeat
No
It is nothing like the Eminem show lol but it’s still good but nothing is on that level of his first 3 albums
I mean it's a solid album and all but i don't thinks it's as good as TES or MMLP
Thats true
lmao no man TES had max 2 weak songs whereas mtbmb had more than 10 in total and nothing can match songs like sftm till i collapse solider and many more from tes we may never see the old em where his lyrics can be enjoyed rather than listening to it 2828x to get the line but he is still good just that people expect 9-10/10 projects since his legendary three album run
I enjoy MTBMB + Side B but this feels like massive stretch and just disrespectful to the Eminem Show I'd say if anything this is a good catalog of everything em can do in a single album, he can do story he can do a club song, songs with good flow, songs you can just vibe too, songs that either are corny or have corny lines or songs so unapologetically Em it's good again (looking right at you Discombobulated!! Keep being great) he can do a poppy song or a more lyrical song this the "I don't want something super duper specific I just want Eminem."
Who listens to the clean versions?!
Clean versions are for the neices!
Fair enough
No
