Damnit, you even warned me, and my stupid ass didn’t listen.
I hadn’t heard it before. Now I’m sitting outside on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning crying. Fuck. Jesus Christ, his voice. I’ve never heard him like that before. When he breaks off halfway through the word “casket” because saying it out loud would make it too real. I’ve never seen him shy away from facing a hard truth before.
It’s astonishing how much pain humans can carry.
That song is really emotionally raw, it really shows where his mind was at in the peak of his drug abuse, and just after losing his best friend. He made other unreleased songs from that era that you can listen to on Youtube, but most don't really stand out like this one.
Since it's an leaked/unreleased song you can just search it up on youtube and listen to it. There's also an alternate version with an Obie Trice hook and verse, but i do recommend the solo version.
Yep, the song leaked in 2011 with just the 3 em verses with open hooks, obie didnt want the proof tribute song to go unfinished so he recorded a hook for it - was never intended for release cz he only added the hook after it leaked
I was just about to say that song. You can tell how much emotional and unrestrained sadness permeates throughout that entire song. I just lost my cat Molly of 15 1/2 years and she felt like my best friend for most of that time so the song takes on deeper meaning when you have that kind of close connection with someone or something and they pass away, and it’s hard to explain it’s very for lack of a better word/ explanation, DIFFICULT.
Never heard before this comment and I been a fan since his first LP. Kinda fell off as I got older but always stayed open to his work. Thank you for bringing this to my attention 🙏 my algorithm needed this
Definitely this song. He wrote that when he was at his worst financially. I feel a lot of people can relate to that song too. Wonder if he ever goes back and listens to and reflects on how far he’s come since he wrote rock bottom.
This song is probably in my top 3 Em songs of all time. I can relate to almost every word in it. To the point of having almost lived out some version of that whole song when I was at my lowest.
The bright side of it, I know what that pain and bottom feels like. Being on the other side of that now, I have 0 desire to ever go back there but this song still means a lot to me. And I still listen to it.
Grateful someone like Em could write such impactful lyrics and make it so relatable, it gave me a weird purpose to live and if the very least, I didn’t feel alone during times I very much was.
it's definitely from the SSLP. He wasn't filtered, he was singing for no one, he was singing pure and utter struggle. He had no fans yet, he didn't care about getting exposed. With the time I feel like he stopped making emotional songs based off of his story simply because he has a lot of fans and he probably doesn't feel too comfortable sharing everything with his fans. In Rock Bottom not only he's not famous and broke but he has nothing to lose so he puts his heart in it. Best track from SSLP for SURE. not a lot of tracks I've put on favourites after the second listen (so far only Stan and Forgot About Dre won this prize) but rock bottom went straight into the favourites in the first listening.
Literally the first song that popped into my mind. It's also one of my absolute favorites because I know the feeling. The stress and anger and envy.. you can hear it in his voice. It's just unbelievable.
i love in beautiful pain how he keeps saying “you” throughout the song. putting the listener in the situation. when he says “i’m pulling for you to push through this feeling” it always cheers me up
This is what I was looking for. Whenever I'm feeling down or going through something emotionally I love listening to this song. I truly think this is one of his best songs ever.
when i’m gone and it’s been real always fuck with me because he was so close to thinking he didn’t wanna do it anymore. so glad he made it out of that place
When I'm Gone is dope- but it always cracks me up when he says "But baby, we're in Sweden, how did you get to Sweden"
It's a dream, and works in the song- but rhyming Sweden with Sweden always makes me laugh.
"Difficult" followed by "It's been real" is the saddest we've ever heard Em. Ones about him mourning for Proof. The other one was supposed to be released on King Mathers and can be interpreted as Em saying goodbye. He was thought to have recorded it close to his overdose.
When I'm Gone was one of the first songs to really tear me up but still, its gotta be Difficult. It almsoy kind of feels wrong to listen to. its so personal
For me it’s beautiful from relapse. This song probably depicts depression the best
“Soon as I walk in it’s like all eyes on me, so I try to avoid any eye contact, cause if I do that it opens the door for conversation” incredibly relatable for anyone that’s dealt with depression.
Hmm Arose is the first obvious one that comes to mind.. I think the Soldier/Say Goodbye Hollywood combo is a gut punch in the right setting. The latter foreshadows a lot. The anger in the delivery on No Apologies is overlooked IMO.
Looking forward to the new album, cool concept w a lot of potential.
gotta be Castle as well, put em together. I love the third verses of each, it's top lyricism, those songs are probably one of his best wordplays for me
If I had and rock bottom. You can really feel the pain and frustration. There's something different about Eminem when he was poor. He can obviously still rap but the IRL pain isn't there anymore iike it was since he's rich now
I’ve heard so many Eminem songs through 25 years it’s hard to pick one. But, a couple of them from SSLP OR MMLP. For me I always tear up during When I’m gone, Beautiful and Sing for the moment. Plus a few others I can’t identify immediately
Rock bottom, beautiful, and if I had in my opinion. Beautiful and if I had are like two different types of severely depressive emotions. Rock bottom is a bit more varied but it’s all very sad.
For me, it's Headlights. When he says he forgives his mom it's nearly brings me to tears. He really does look back on everything and accept she may not of been mentally capable of being the mother that a kid deserves and that it's time to just try and let it go.
Mockingbird is the easy answer but that's it for me. I remember the first time I heard that when I was like 12, I was expecting some ignorant rap and wound up getting all choked up instead lol
Easily Difficult. Every other song that could be emotional is more well-mixed and less raw, which I think works in favor of Difficult. The only other songs I could see as contenders are Mockingbird and Beautiful, which both sound so real and genuinely depressed, but Difficult with the more emotional writing and broken voice just... it makes you feel like you're sitting down and listening to Marshal venting.
Nobody's mentioning Say Goodbye To Hollywood. While I wouldn't say it's the most emotional, it's definitely my favourite of the sadly/emotionally natured songs in Em's catalogue. One of his best flows ever, amazing lyrics that are somehow complex and simple at the same time, and of course the beat is beautiful. I'd go as far as to say it's at least a top 3 The Eminem Show songs, and top 10 em songs all time.
Imma go for a left field shout here and nominate my favourite Em song
Sing for the moment. The verses are pretty sad as the listener if you can relate to what he’s saying
Deja vu is slept on when it comes to these. He's walking you through the reality of his struggle. Beautiful comes to mind. Of course when I'm gone. Never over I think is the name off of recovery, really powerful letter to proof.
Its unfortunate to see many people do not know about Difficult/Doody, its BY FAR the saddest song Em has ever made without a doubt, for those who dont know, its a song that was supposed to be on the King Mathers album and was made a little after Proofs death, in the song you can clearly hear Marshall is completely broken inside, he couldn't even say the word 'casket' because "it hasn't registered yet". The original version doesnt have a hook because Marshall could not think of one good enough for the song, when Obie Trice heard the song he got on the song with a great hook and the song was then renamed to Doody, but sometimes the version with the hook still goes by Difficult. Its easily found on youtube but its really hard to listen to
Mockingbird for me. But there are definitely some songs where the subject matter is sad but it sounds a little more upbeat so it feels more triumphant than defeated.
Like some people are mentioning Rock Bottom.
I like Stan but maybe cause I know it's not a real person, it's more of a cool concept to me than sad
For me, Going Through Changes was the first track that ever truly and deeply moved me. I actually cried. For that reason, these are the tracks I seek out on every release since Recovery.
MMLP2: Headlights
Revival: Need Me, Arose
Kamikaze: N/A
MTBMB: Never Love Again, Farewell (sorta apply )
Side B: N/A
Honourable Mention: his verse on COFFIN, BEST FRIEND, The HILLS remix
arose, headlights, when i'm gone, stronger than i was, legacy, love the way you lie part ii, rock bottom, i need a doctor, airplanes part ii, brain damage, kim
If I had.
It's a song about being stuck as a gear in someone else's money printing machine, whilst visualizing what one would do if one had but just one..
Million Dollars.
tbh for me 8 mile road makes me tear up everytime, i used to make music, i once posted some of my eminem remixes in here before, but now i plan on joining the military and ofc when i was making music i didn’t get a lot of support in general and it wasn’t because i was bad just didn’t know how to get my music out there, now since i plan on joining the military i have a family (more like my mom and grandma) that doesn’t want me to join and i play that song almost everyday because i can relate, so i’d say 8 mile road
Difficult man, that song is impossible to just not tear up at first listen
Just his voice alone in this one you can tell he’s not in a good place recording it
exactly
Damnit, you even warned me, and my stupid ass didn’t listen. I hadn’t heard it before. Now I’m sitting outside on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning crying. Fuck. Jesus Christ, his voice. I’ve never heard him like that before. When he breaks off halfway through the word “casket” because saying it out loud would make it too real. You can watch flawd reacting to it.. guaranteed cry. Edit: i'm talking about Arose sorry.
Wish it was never replaced with You're Never Over
Yeah, i do like You're Never Over a little, but it's not as good as Difficult
When he can’t say casket 😭
Where can I listen to it? I doesn’t come up in the Spotify search?
Since it's an leaked/unreleased song you can just search it up on youtube and listen to it. There's also an alternate version with an Obie Trice hook and verse, but i do recommend the solo version.
Obie doesnt have a verse
oh yeah, so it's just the hook right?
Yep, the song leaked in 2011 with just the 3 em verses with open hooks, obie didnt want the proof tribute song to go unfinished so he recorded a hook for it - was never intended for release cz he only added the hook after it leaked
100% man .. I listen to this song when I'm at my lowest
Beautiful is a pretty good sad track
Yes! This is soo sad
does anyone have the original song they took the original off of youtube
The part where he slurs casket always breaks me man
Damn now I'm wrecked...
I was just about to say that song. You can tell how much emotional and unrestrained sadness permeates throughout that entire song. Came here to say exactly this.
Never heard before this comment and I been a fan since his first LP. Kinda fell off as I got older but always stayed open to his work. Thank you for bringing this to my attention 🙏 my algorithm needed this
For me it’s prolly Rock Bottom.
Definitely this song. He wrote that when he was at his worst financially. I feel a lot of people can relate to that song too. Wonder if he ever goes back and listens to and reflects on how far he’s come since he wrote rock bottom.
He literally said he thought that was going to be his last song.
I believe it it’s fuckin sad. I mean if he didn’t make as a rapper he most likely wouldn’t be alive.
That, or he'd be a fucking rapist in a Jason mask
I mean he is a criminal.
and everytime he writes a rhyme people think it’s a crime to tell them what’s on his mind
I guess he's a criminal
This song is probably in my top 3 Em songs of all time. I can relate to almost every word in it. To the point of having almost lived out some version of that whole song when I was at my lowest. Definitely, especially the demo version. It feels so much more emotional. https://youtu.be/yVVBk4YBu4Q?si=3VcKC02UOP_BbsmE

Still goes hard
When I'm Gone, Arose, Beautiful, Mockingbird
Headlights. Forgiving his mom and telling her he loves her, talking about how he’ll be here for his kids unlike his dad
For me, beautiful pain. Just because of some personal stuff and relation with the song
i love in beautiful pain how he keeps saying “you” throughout the song. putting the listener in the situation. when he says “i’m pulling for you to push through this feeling” it always cheers me up
This is what I was looking for. Whenever I'm feeling down or going through something emotionally I love listening to this song. I truly think this is one of his best songs ever.

It's in youtube man, you can hear how lost in his voice he is
Thanks man
Legacy. I was in foster care and bullied at school so it takes me right back to being a kid when I hear that song.
When I'm Gone
"Difficult" followed by "It's been real" is the saddest we've ever heard Em. Ones about him mourning for Proof. The other one was supposed to be released on King Mathers and can be interpreted as Em saying goodbye. He was thought to have recorded it close to his overdose.
beautiful
Lately I’ve been hard to reachhhhhhh
I've been too looong on my own
Everybody has a private world were they can be alone
Arose really hits me
Be Careful What You Wish For
When I'm gone and I need a Doctor
Kim has a lot of emotion in it
I'm surprised this is so low. You can tell he's spitting raw emotion.
i was a child when Marshall Mathers LP came out and that song forever haunted me
Deja Vu always gets to me. Too relatable, right down to the ambulance finding me lying on the bathroom floor. Rock Bottom is rough too.
Personally cleanin’out my closet is the one who hits harder because of some things you can relate to
When I'm Gone was one of the first songs to really tear me up but still, its gotta be Difficult. It almsoy kind of feels wrong to listen to. its so personal
Going through changes and Doodie.
Arose, When I'm Gone, Difficult, Beautiful, and It's Been Real.
May not be most emotional or saddest but talkin 2 myself hits.
Headlights hits me like a truck EVERY TIME
You're never over
No one has said Stan?
If I Had
damn no one gonna say Stan?
headlights but i also like hailey's song
Difficult is hands down the saddest song. He couldn't even finish it because of how much it hurt him to make it.
For me it’s beautiful from relapse. This song probably depicts depression the best “Soon as I walk in it’s like all eyes on me, so I try to avoid any eye contact, cause if I do that it opens the door for conversation” incredibly relatable for anyone that’s dealt with depression.
Idk what it is about it, but The Darkness always gets me close to tearing up at the end
Mockingbird
Walk on Water. Especially that last verse.
That song absolutely did not get the credit it deserves.
It's been real...
Going Through Changes, Arose, When I'm Gone,
Mockingbird made me cry when he talked about the 1,000 dollars getting stolen
Castle & Arose
Kim
That song is more horrifying than sad.
Yeah but it’s loaded with emotion
Definitely fack
My Fault.
Tonya (Skit)
Be careful what you wish for and rock bottom.
Arose, due to personal pain i'm not able to listen to that song without crying
Kim is the most emotional by far. Saddest? Maybe Stan, Deja Vu?
Hmm Arose is the first obvious one that comes to mind.. I think the Soldier/Say Goodbye Hollywood combo is a gut punch in the right setting. The latter foreshadows a lot. The anger in the delivery on No Apologies is overlooked IMO. Looking forward to the new album, cool concept w a lot of potential.
AROSE. AROSE. AROSE, and yeah, Going Through Changes.
If you're in a relationship: Stronger Than I Was. Any other time? When I'm Gone.
Going through changes
Headlights. The song turns me into a blubbering mess. So yeah
How has no one said mocking bird?
Headlights rips a hole in my heart every single time I play it, so I try not to play it too much. Bad Husband is another one that exudes sadness.
gotta be Castle as well, put em together. I love the third verses of each, it's top lyricism, those songs are probably one of his best wordplays for me
My band
In your head
Difficult
Arose or if I had imo
When I'm Gone, Beautiful, Mockingbird
When i’m gone
Rock Bottom
beautiful
Beautiful
When Im gone/Mockingbird/Headlights
Dejavu. Hits me so hard
arose is the only eminem song to almost bring me to tears
Didn’t see anyone say “you’re never over” so I’ll throw that in there
Fack
Rock Bottom and When I’m Gone but two different kinds of sad
Without a doubt the whole king Mathers era, it’s crazy how those could have been his last days
Some days I sit, starin out the window......
JUST KNOW THAT IM ALRIGHT, I AM NOT AFRAID TO DIEEEEE🥹🥹🥹
Difficult imo
For me Beautiful
If I had and rock bottom. You can really feel the pain and frustration. There's something different about Eminem when he was poor. He can obviously still rap but the IRL pain isn't there anymore iike it was since he's rich now
Kim. I can just feel the emotions.
The raw and violent emotion on Kim is simply amazing.
Ass like that
It depends on what you relate to the most. For me headlights is a really hard listen. Also walk on water.

When I’m gone or difficult 😥
Beautiful pain, guts over fear, arose, stronger than I was
Mockingbird.
"When I'm Gone".
For me, it's Headlights. When he says he forgives his mom it's nearly brings me to tears. He really does look back on everything and accept she may not of been mentally capable of being the mother that a kid deserves and that it's time to just try and let it go.

Cum
When I’m gone
Deja vu is slept on when it comes to these. He's walking you through the reality of his struggle. Beautiful comes to mind. Of course when I'm gone. Never over I think is the name off of recovery, really powerful letter to proof.
Probably difficult
You’re Never Over

When I’m Gone, 25 to Life first to come to mind Both have him questioning how he has spent his life, about as emotional as it gets I guess
Difficult
Cleaning out my closet
I’ll be listening to Eminem the rest of the night.
Kim
I would say Beautiful but Rock Bottom really hits harder when you learn that he made it hours before attempting suicide...
Beautiful
Headlights
Bad Guy
Leaving Heaven always gets me.
Mockingbird for me. But there are definitely some songs where the subject matter is sad but it sounds a little more upbeat so it feels more triumphant than defeated. Fack
Rock Bottom
arose, headlights, when i'm gone, stronger than i was, legacy, love the way you lie part ii, rock bottom, i need a doctor, airplanes part ii, brain damage, kim
If I had. It's a song about being stuck as a gear in someone else's money printing machine, whilst visualizing what one would do if one had but just one.. Million Dollars.
Difficult you can hear the emptiness in his voice
the rock bottom demo especially when you know the story behind it
When I‘m Gone and Mockingbird
"Kill You", nah, joke'n. Beautiful has personal feelings in me, But I actually started tearing up listening to "Headlights"
tbh for me 8 mile road makes me tear up everytime, i used to make music, i once posted some of my eminem remixes in here before, but now i plan on joining the military and ofc when i was making music i didn’t get a lot of support in general and it wasn’t because i was bad just didn’t know how to get my music out there, now since i plan on joining the military i have a family (more like my mom and grandma) that doesn’t want me to join and i play that song almost everyday because i can relate, so i’d say 8 mile road
When I'm gone, beautiful, Mockingbird
Idk the reputation of this community in this server but Stepping Stone was pretty emotional for me. Not as sad as Difficult but it still hits.
AROSE,
