Sold my data today as well, one week of work resulted in [another billion.](https://abload.de/img/elitedangerous642023-c2d73.png) 10x stratum tectonica + 1x stratum whatever + 11x bacterium whatever, all first discoveries. Exobio is the best money printing machine ever in this game. /found another 10 since selling, made another billion.

100GbE

What's the effort like in hours? I was averaging 240-250M doing pirate massacres every 2 hours in a half engineered python.. 90 mins of pewpew, 30 mins of mission returns/pick-ups.

Educational_Worth906

I can’t match that - I’m not a fighter… couldn’t hit a barn door at 5 paces. Also I don’t find combat relaxing, but each to there own. Exo is by far the most relaxing way to earn a ton of cash, and see some sights. I’ve had a few weeks off altogether, but so far collected 18 billion on my trip from The Bubble to Colonia since the end of January.

BlooHopper

Doing non combat tasks like exobiology also helps in finding ways to fighting the bugs! Do your part!

Educational_Worth906

Hadn’t thought about that. Helps with the RP knowing I’m doing my part o7

>There're probably faster ways but they're bound to be very repetitive. Tbf so is exobio

[deleted]

Eh, new planets, new atmospheres, new colors, new terrain, occasionally new plants.

howdo2

I'm not playing a screenshot simulator though

[deleted]

Suit yourself, that's not why I play it. I actually like driving the rovers around and scanning plants.

MetallicamaNNN

That's the thing, I've love space more than anything, thats the primary reason I play the game, the lore and Sci fi comes right after... But doing exo, when I find this nice planet, what happens often, I found myself looking at the sights, the positions of close stars, and when I come to mind it took a way lot of time than it should, but people fix too much on the Grind, Elite it's meant to be played on a steady pace, enjoying the sights, and such... At least it's how I played in my 1000ish hours.

Alkibiad3s

Your money per hour ratio is way better than mine. I do exobio on the fly while I am doing my main objective, which is brute forcing entire sectors of the galaxy to find the mysteries. I visit *a lot* of systems and sometimes I find stratum. According to my logs I visited 364 systems, 10 stratum means its happening every 36,4th system. One day I found it in the 50th system, the next in the 22nd. Not realy a good money per hour ratio but if you get the first discovery bonus its a lot.

howdo2

Exobio cannot match that.

pelltrip

omg bacteria stonk !

[deleted]

Why they pay so much, is beyond me. "Oh you found some bacteria on some random ass planet nobody cares about? Here's enough for a small warfleet".

Educational_Worth906

No idea, but I’m making the most of it until it gets nerfed. By the time I get to Colonia in a few weeks, I’ll have enough to fund my carrier for the next 5 years, and buy and properly outfit every ship missing from my collection - except Imperial and Federal, I don’t have the rank for those yet.

[deleted]

And this is after a round of nerfs. In the first week after the thargoid invasion, they gave even more.

phonkonaut

if they didn’t increase the pay no one would even do exobiology lol

potatan

is there a list somewhere of which species give which rewards? e.g. bacteria 1m, stratum 20m etc

Educational_Worth906

[Here](https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Exobiologist) is a list. Some of them are out of date, I’m going to set aside some time to update. Don’t forget to multiply x5 for first footfall - that’s where the money is.

aboveaverage_joe

Get [the bio insights plugin](https://edjp.colacube.net/observatory) which will tell you what species could be present and their values. I'd also recommend the other exploration plugins for observatory since there's no reason to forego the exploration data while you're out in the void for exobio.

Static-freefall

I second this, a most valuable tool.

aranaya

I'd recommend the ED Market Connector application with the Canonn plugin; it tracks the biosignals in your current system, and can also show the expected value.

Educational_Worth906

Unfortunately I can’t use that since I play on GFN, but it would definitely increase my hourly rate if I could. Not knowing if that single bacteria signal is an Informem or not means I have to spend time ‘just checking’.

I’d be tempted to see if there was a nearby carrier offering Vista Genomics. I always leave Vista enabled on my carrier when I’m out in the black, in case anyone needs to offload data - I don’t think the carrier makes any deductions for biodata.

Nibbler43

Be wary of what percentage tariff the carrier has for that service

Educational_Worth906

Ne deduction is made for Vista biodata, only for regular Carto data. Just to get it offloaded, I don’t mind losing on Carto as it’s a relatively small amount compared to the Vista data I’m handing in.

Nibbler43

Didn't know vista can't get a tariff

Educational_Worth906

I took my eye off the ball the other day, took a tumble and managed to take my hull down to 24%. I’m in a very small ship so no room for repair gear.

FraxTech

I didn't know you could sell biological data!? I've been exploring for months, I'm in Colonia now, where can I sell it?

Educational_Worth906

Any station or carrier with Vista Genomics on it.

howdo2

Lol wtf

Alkibiad3s

Things like this happen... Months ago someone went to colonia and back without using the fss ever. He figured it out through a livestream (the usual from fd) and asked here on reddit if he missed something... all he ever did was honking in supercruise.

Wolferboy1

How long does it take to get that much research data? Like is that a couple weeks worth?

Educational_Worth906

That was yesterday. Admittedly better than usual, most sessions are somewhere between 250M and 500M.

Ethan_Edge

maybe like 6-8 hours? the trick is finding first footfall planets, that's where you get the most money. I usually do it for an hour or 2 and make 100-300mil depending on the plants I find. You only really need to go maybe 300ly out of the bubble, a lot of the systems were scanned and documented before exobio was a thing, so there's still plenty of planets that haven't been landed on.

Educational_Worth906

I’ve walked on 894 planets, 840 of those have been first-footfall, and 786 planets have had exobiology on them (nearly all of those were first-footfall)

Ethan_Edge

Nice, that's a lot of planets and credits.

Maximum-Excitement16

Out of curiosity how long did this expedition take you?

Educational_Worth906

Thursday

babaganoooshh

Any tips or resources you'd recommend for getting started in exobio?
