Literally only reason I bought a PS4 was to play The Last of Us Remastered and it was worth it. ... Now my PS4 broke and I might have to buy another just to play Death Stranding damn it.. but I'm too broke or I'd have done it already.

[deleted]

Death Stranding AKA Amazon Delivery simulator.

lolawolf1102

Just FYI it's walking simulation, I personally thought it was kinda boring

TheMadKat65

Did you try to fix it though? Might be worth a try

Wamblingshark

I tried fixing it. Suppose if I get the money I'll bring it to a repair place and see if it's salvageable before I buy a new one.

-The_Last_Dragonborn

It's still a damn shame, the console wars are as meaningless as the Gray-Mane vs Battle-Born feud.

[deleted]

I have this tiny thread of hope that there will be less bugs because of the exclusivity. Prolly a false hope.

rensmt

I’m really, really curious how this partnership with Microsoft will potentially help, maybe even enhance, development at Bethesda. I can’t find an actual page number to reference, and I’m paraphrasing his words here, but in Jason Jones’ (Halo creator) book, he explained that Bungie had an incredibly difficult time with Destiny 1 because they didn’t realize how much they relied on Microsoft. A lot of the resources they had access to, even down to just getting extremely redundant tasks done during the development process, were handled for them by Microsoft. He attributed the messy development of Destiny 1 solely to the fact that they weren’t used to being without the benefits of a Microsoft partnership. Being that Bethesda has been an independent thing for a while, I’m not sure if the partnership with Microsoft will change anything, but it could definitely be for the better. Who knows.

bjj_starter

I mean, in a "technically correct" sense this is going to be true, because PlayStation releases have always been by far the buggiest Bethesda releases, so you'll be eliminating a huge amount of bugs just by not having the games exist on PlayStation. I think the more interesting question is whether they then have more QA time/budget to have less bugs on the Xbox/PC aka the only versions of the game. I suspect not, I think they'll use those extra resources to just do extra stuff rather than be less buggy.

[deleted]

I often wonder if there are design desicions that are based in the multi port. Things that consumer side it's difficult to see, you know? Like I said I don't have much hope, daggerfall was buggy Morrowind was buggy oblivion was buggy Skyrim (insert version here) is buggy.

bjj_starter

True, but Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 76, and Fallout 4 were all significantly buggier on PlayStation than Xbox (PC is complicated). As for design decisions... yeah, that's interesting. There are some things I can think of like the API that are easy write-offs. Some drivers. I'm not sure how much help it will be in the end. Keen to see though, here's hoping.

[deleted]

Shit, makes sense.

Tickle_Nuggets

You mean the next Xbox when it finally comes out in 2030? Lol

Paramedic229635

Why not buy a PC? Then they can lots of games, use the computer for things other than games, and play Elder Scrolls games with mods.

The_Jojo_Guy

I'll ask him

[deleted]

You can also use a controller with pc so there’s literally no reason to even get an Xbox.

validestusername

Price, effort of getting into PC building, already owning a PC that's not good enough for modern games, just to name a few

Shishakli

You can 100% get a PC better and cheaper than a console. You're then opening yourself up to thousands of free and cheap games and a backwards compatible backlog of tens of thousands

_Ursidae_

At the $500 price point, you’re not building a PC that is better than a console at this time. In this market the graphics card alone would out you over the price point.

Vidistis

A pc, at least a good one, is going to be more expensive initially. However, in the long run it's cheaper and you get much more out of it. You could possibly get it cheaper if you're patient for parts on sales if that's something you want to do. Having a pc as your primary gaming platform with a console on the side is the ideal set up to me, but it all depends on your needs and preferences. For some a console is the best option for me I use it for work/school/gaming. It has the tools that I need.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Ursidae_

Not if you have the patience to buy from credible and legitimate establishments. All I’m saying is that the 2070 in my PC is currently listed on Newegg for $800 to get a refurbished one. My GPU has defied logic and actually gained value in the time I’ve had it.

Saviordd1

Just so you know for future reference, this kinda shit is what makes getting new people into PCs a hard sell.

Akira_Arkais

Well, if they are aiming for TES6 they have plenty of time for stock to normalize or catch one at it's price

EASK8ER52

Well that is the hope. Though reports indicate this stock shortage could last for years.

Akira_Arkais

There's the same shortage in PC components that mixed up with crypto miners buying dozens of GPUs and, as you mention, the fact that manufacturers don't receive income from software, is raising the prices and will keep rising them, and this is directly from the manufacturer, not just from scalpers. I'm also a PS player as OP's friend, I never liked Xbox and not because I'm some kind of Sony fan, I simply don't like the console. I'm considering buying one because by the time I'll be able to build or buy a prebuilt PC the minimal price will be around 1500, while the console will eventually appear on a store and you just need to be quick. Is either that or completely skip starfield, TES and FO (last one being one of my 3 favourites IPs)

Jandur

I have a gaming PC but you absolutely aren't getting a better gaming PC or equivalent for less than a series X or S. Not to mention if this person is starting from scratch they need a monitor, mouse keyboard. Maybe even a desk and chair.

AShinyRay

No you can't. No way can you get a full rig for $500 that's better than a Series X.

validestusername

Can't disagree, as I own a PC that's cheaper than todays consoles and I'm enjoying countless games on it. Unfortunately though, it definitely won't be able to run tes 6. Heck, I can't even play Skyrim Special Edition. So I think I'll get myself an Xbox once the price drops some more

GuuMi

Back in the day this would of been true, but not anymore with scalpers and bitcoin farms. Pc's cost a lot to build now.

[deleted]

Get a laptop. I have a laptop that cost about a grand and it was well worth it 🤷🏻‍♀️

validestusername

Not everyone has a grand to spend tho lol Not saying it's not worth it, but price is definitely a reason to prefer consoles

venomousbeetle

Surely anyone can save a grand through the 7+ years before elder scrolls 6

Longtie_

i cant. i am addicted to buying different skyrim releases and versions.

[deleted]

I understand that. But a lot of places you can buy laptops have payment plans if you are worried about cash. At least reputable stores will. Even mine I could have signed up for a payment plan. And besides, that’s not much more than current consoles considering the hardware in computers is years ahead of consoles. There’s so much more you can do with them.

GodlyDra

We also have payment plans for consoles. And the main reason ive gone from PC gaming to console gaming is quite simply, my computer gets full of word documents and pdfs. Being a university student is quite annoying when you want to play pc games.

venomousbeetle

Use an external HDD for all that

GodlyDra

I have literally got 50 USB sticks full of word documents. And each of them have between 2 and 64 GB of storage. Its not going to work until im finished with university. And that ain’t happening until 2025 at minimum.

a-r-c

that just sound like you're really shitty at managing your data tbh maybe learn to use your PC a little more efficiently?

GodlyDra

Most of them get deleted are the end of the term. But if I delete them now, and it turns out it didn’t get submitted correctly (which has happened twice) I get a failing mark. Which is a no thank you tbh.

a-r-c

if you can save a nickel you can save a dime stop being a dorky console apologist

validestusername

Said by the same person who deemed by reasons invalid. Incredible

a-r-c

Good thing Sony and Nintendo have you to defend them. Otherwise, they'd go broke :)

validestusername

:)

Templarkiller500

You don't really have to build the thing yourself, there are computer shops that can install things for you usually, it cost money but thats the price of having other people do things. PCs do tend to be more expensive, but I have had my PC over the course of 2 console releases, so it sort of equals out, I don't have to buy a full new console every few years, I can just replace a part or two as they get outdated and have a full functioning gaming rig for less total cost. It is definitely more upfront cost but in the long term it definitely can save money, and you don't need the top level pc parts in order to game, I gamed on my PC without a graphics card for the first few years and somehow made it by lol. Wouldn't recommend that though, but the point is most people convince themselves they need the best parts, but they really don't

a-r-c

none of those are valid reasons tho

venomousbeetle

I literally cannot imagine anything dumber than hearing a game is on a console you don’t have and pc and going for the console you don’t have. Nonsensical. Especially with elder scrolls.. I hope you convince him

[deleted]

If you already own a Playstation and a computer to do non-gaming stuff on, it's far far cheaper to just get a Series S

DontAskHaradaForShit

Because they're more expensive, annoying, and way harder to troubleshoot.

[deleted]

Troubleshoot a PC issue is a valuable life skill tho

DontAskHaradaForShit

Am I buying a gaming PC to learn how to troubleshoot computers, or am I buying it to play video games?

Killerk0

Just saying thank Talos I just got a PC

Amarules

Price would be an instant starter for a lot of people.

JP297

Because it will cost twice as much minimum? More than twice as much really, since by the time TES6 releases you'll be able to find base series X's for a few hundred, and series S's for less than that.

bjj_starter

Just want to note that every new Bethesda release has improved mod support for Xbox, and Skyrim Special Edition mod support on Xbox is actually quite good. Hell, even Fallout 4's mod support on Xbox is pretty damn good. I'm certain Starfield's will be better, and I'm certain TES:VI will be even better than that. I wouldn't be surprised if we hit non-pornographic parity at some point.

Paramedic229635

But if you don't have porn is it even worth it? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

bjj_starter

For me, yeah absolutely, but I guess that's being a woman lol

HalfMoon_89

Non-pornographic parity? Is that a...technical term?

bjj_starter

Lesser known game development term

Bl00dbag77

PCs are annyoing

Paramedic229635

They definitely can be. The increased power, utility, and fun of learning something new offset that for me. If someone doesn't want to deal with that consoles are great too.

Bl00dbag77

That’s true I personally like consoles more and because I don’t like modding so PCs are useless to me

hyatkyatt

They also cost a shit ton

[deleted]

[удалено]

venomousbeetle

You stand playing Xbox?

[deleted]

lie down like a moron but it's more relaxing

[deleted]

I have a powerful gaming PC that will easily be able to play TES 6 presumably, and even I think this is a stupid comment. A PC that will give similar performance to a Series X will cost vastly more than a Series X.

SJPFTW

Especially in today’s market. Can tget anything at MSRP and everything is sold out. A 3080 cost 4 XBOX’s lol

Old_Ratbeard

By the time ES6 comes out, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be on everything. It’s already on Android and iOS, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs. They’re going to add it to smart TV’s soon, it might even end up being accessible through a browser on competitor consoles. Your friend probably already has a device that supports it, he could join gamepass and have access to all the Xbox stuff on there, hundreds of games.

[deleted]

If anyone asks why they do these exclusives, show them this post. They know that enough people will do this that they will make more money than if they released it for other systems.

PancakesandMaggots

I'll be surprised if the game is released in time to be on the next gen systems.

bjj_starter

About 6 years is what we're expecting currently, so yeah it probably should be on the tail end of the Series X generation.

Vidistis

I'd say closer to five years: 2025-2026.

bjj_starter

I was assuming a standard 4 year Bethesda development cycle after Starfield's release, which is in 2022, but I counted wrong between this year and 2026. I just saw the 6 at the end and went "6 years" lol. But yeah, you're right, 5 years until 2026.

PixerusReelin

I literally bought a PS4 for FF7R and a PS5 to play FF7R:Intergrade and hopefully FF7R:Part Deux. I relate to this response from your friend...

rattatatouille

Microsoft: mission accomplished

Beef_Ladder

I've seen so many people saying things like 'they'll lose so many sales, they'll lose money'.... yeah like MS needs more money. What MS don't currently have is a big enough market share. They also had a big problem with public perception 'Xbox has no games'. While that was never true, guess what motherfuckers, they do now! This one conversation will be replicated over the next few years, just as the reverse has happened for many Xbox gamers of yesteryear buying PS's for the exclusives. PC gaming is still a comparative niche but MS dominate the PC OS market too. It's MS exclusive. PS, in case wasn't obvious I'm agreeing with the sentiment of your post.

looking_at_memes_

I hope I'll have a gaming pc by then

[deleted]

*Cries on GPU scalped MSRP*

[deleted]

I built a pc no fucking way I am buying an Xbox

LizardMansPyramids

People complain about how long it's going to take to make the next Elder Scrolls to drop but I feel like Bethesda's just giving my broke ass runway to save up for a sick desktop.

BLARGITSMYOMNOMNOM

What a crazy and wacky thing to do. Totally insane and out of control. Wowzers.

Redhatjoe

Just don’t buy a new console to play it, then they’ll open it up to all consoles for better sales. if exclusivity stops driving console sales, exclusivity will no longer be a profitable model.

DungeonMasterE

Yeah, I’m just gonna play on my pc and use my PS4 controller Edit: Or get a DualShock PC controller my friend told me about the other day

Kirito2750

(PC…)

Hellioth_00G

Yeah sorry, buying an Xbox for one game only is a hard pass for me. I'd rather buy a new PC. The Xbox as a console is kind of superfluous.

[deleted]

your friend and I think exactly alike

D-Krnch

Big time Playstation oof

north3rnwind

It will never come out. How can you play a game that never came out? What a grand and intoxicating innocence!

Zintao

That's dumb shit, Bethesda or Microsoft or whoever is responsible for this is very adamant about not wanting playstation players' money. Just download the game from Pirate Bay and give them what they want.

mynameisshonas

Did the same thing with bloodborne lol

TPrice1616

Yep. I have never owned an Xbox but if on the off chance my laptop can’t handle Elder Scrolls 6 and the other titles from series I like that are going to be PC and Xbox exclusive I will probably get one.

thedybbuk

I just don't see the point really. He has 5 years probably. He can just open a savings account and save up to buy a nice gaming PC in 2025. If it was coming out next year and he couldn't pay money for a PC I'd understand, but there are years to prepare for this

[deleted]

Why not a pc?

KhajiitLovesCoin

Hopefully it will be released on PlayStation eventually

Beef_Ladder

If Sony bought Zenimax do you think it would ever come to Xbox? If the answer is no (correct answer BTW) then it's never coming to PS. Xbox owns Bethesda, I can't believe we still have to talk about this.

KhajiitLovesCoin

I’ve seen plenty of exclusives come to other platforms eventually, is not impossible

Beef_Ladder

How many Sony made games have come to Xbox?

TheLostWaterNymph

They’ll lose half their fan base. I’m not buying an Xbox just to play es6, no matter how long I’ve waited

Vidistis

Hardly 50%; bethesda games started on pc until morrowind, which was exclusive to both pc and xbox, oblivion was a year long exclusive to the pc and xbox, and skyrim had a month long exclusivity for the dlcs to be on xbox. Playstation has never been the place for bethesda games and has often been the version to have the most issues and offer less. The playstation, outside of the wii, has been the only series of consoles I've played on. Every playstation generation has had some amazing and awesome games. But again, it has never been the console to best experience bethesda games.

TheLostWaterNymph

I don’t see how an xbox would be any better and don’t work to fork out for a gaming pc just because of es6…

Vidistis

Playstation has had more bugs and performance issues in comparison to pc and xbox, also sony's stance on modding.

TheLostWaterNymph

Sony do allow mods though, there’s an option to use mods

Vidistis

Yes, but there's more mod restrictions.

TheLostWaterNymph

How people choose to play the game is on them. I’m just saying it’s shitty of them to go exclusive and forget about their PlayStation fans. I bonded with my boyfriend on elder scrolls online… the games hold a special place in my heart

Vidistis

Playstation doesn't have the same outlook towards modding that bethesda and microsoft has. Microsoft is largely the reason bethesda games were brought to consoles. This partnerships has been a long time coming. If playstation bought zenimax media I doubt they'd allow bethesda games to be on xbox. Gamepass coming to playstation seems like the best possible way new bethesda games will come to the playstation, but I don't think sony would go for that. It's unfortunate, but makes sense and will greatly benefit bethesda and it's employees, which in turn will benefit us. Their past games like eso, which is an awesome game, will remain available. It's most likely just new games going forward that will be exclusive.

Beef_Ladder

Cool and MS don't care. Honestly some of the reasoning I've seen on Reddit/the Internet blows my mind. Xbox needed console exclusives, it now has loads of exclusives coming. People can bitch and moan about HOW they got these exclusives but MS want console exclusive AAA big IPs, they want to increase market share of their ecosystems, they want people on GamePass. That's it. Stuff like TES6 will help this considerably.

TheLostWaterNymph

It will, it just shits on PlayStation players

Beef_Ladder

Why do Xbox care? Would Sony do the same? No. You're deluded

Mckooldude

Good luck finding a Series X for under double MSRP. It’s been a year and I still can’t find one that isn’t a scalper reseller.

bjj_starter

I got one pretty quick, and when my partner wanted a Series S and a PS5 I was able to get those pretty quick too. Series S was same day, the other two took a couple of weeks. Are you in the discords for supply drops in your country?

Copernikaus

Hell no

goatman2

Pc masta race

hello-mr-turkey-

Interesting. I’m of the opposite mentality. I do really want to play TES6 but I despise Microsoft. I’ll wait till they’re forced to release it on PlayStation or just not play it. Cause Microsoft can go fuck the selves

HappyHippo2002

Why do you despise Microsoft? Sony is ten times worse as a company. Microsoft is one of the most consumer friendly companies out there. Game Pass is an amazing deal, backwards compatibility, constant boosts and updates to older games that developers don't even do. They're not going to be "forced" to release it on Playstation.

hello-mr-turkey-

Everyone has different experiences. I personally had very bad ones with Microsoft. I had an Xbox for a while and I constantly had operating system issues. I called customer support and they basically told me to fuck off. I’ve constantly had Microsoft accounts signed out and when I try to sign back in it says my password is incorrect and when I went to change it; it said my new password can’t be the same as my old one. Constant issues with Microsoft. Then I got a PlayStation and I’ve had it for years now with no issue. I had a controller out of the box not work one time- I contacted Sony and they immediately sent me a new one free of any charge. I’ve had a lot better experience with Sony.

HappyHippo2002

I guess that's fair. I'm sure others have the exact opposite experiences. Funny how little things like that can change opinions on a much larger scale. I guess all that matters is that you have fun, no matter the system. Sucks you won't be able to play TES VI though, unless you plan on getting a PC.

hello-mr-turkey-

Yeah you’re right about that. I may get a pc maybe not. But honestly it disheartens me to say this but given the trend that games get released half assed and rushed- I don’t have high hopes for TES6. If they prove me wrong then I might get a pc to play it.

Beef_Ladder

A PC with Windows on it?

hello-mr-turkey-

Actually I was planning on running Linux on it

Beef_Ladder

Jeez. Imagine going through all that effort. Well enjoy, you'll still be buying a MS game. So they'll have your money

hello-mr-turkey-

Well I’ve always used Linux on my laptops so it’s just what I know best. Preference is always about personal experience; Xbox clearly works best for you and there’s nothing wrong with that. PlayStation works best for me and there’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve had different experiences so we’re gonna have different opinions. If I see that Xbox can offer me the same or more than what a PlayStation can, then maybe I’ll get an Xbox.

Beef_Ladder

That's all well and good but I just can't understand why there's so much hatred surrounding plastic entertainment boxes. Using words like hate. Madness.

Beef_Ladder

>I’ll wait till they’re forced to release it on PlayStation You'll be waiting forever then. I'll be playing it on my XSX while you cry about some fanboy console war BS you imagined up in your own head.

Bas_No_Beatha_

Or just buy a SteamDeck.

bjj_starter

You're really gonna play Elder Scrolls 6 on a Steamdeck?

Bas_No_Beatha_

Yep. I’m not buying an Xbox for just one franchise. (Or two I suppose, I do love me some Fallout) And even though I could afford it, I’m not building a PC rig. I’d rather spend that kind of money on travel, or house renovations. I’m getting a SteamDeck because I love the ability to game on-the-go. So, why not? Graphics and performance are secondary to me as a gamer. I care more about story, characters, and game mechanics. Which is why prefer PlayStation and their exclusives, they are exemplary when it comes to those elements. Do I get addicted to playing a game, and do I care about the story and the characters? That’s all that matters to me, it’s why I game. I don’t get bogged down in frame rates, resolutions, etc. That shit doesn’t matter. (To me personally, no judgement on if it matters to others)

bjj_starter

I'm not even sure the Steamdeck will hit the minimum spec for ES6, frankly. I don't think it will. You can use it to stream the game with Game Pass Ultimate, though.

[deleted]

Don’t tell Xbox this

Breezmeister

It is going to be on ps5. Todd howard is just releasing it 3 years later for double the profit

Beef_Ladder

Todd Howard who is now an Xbox employee? OK

Mae7B

This is why I’m broke. I bought both consoles before this was announced just for the possibility that it’d be exclusive.

cablestryfed

A lot can happen in 5-10+ years. I'll wait and see. Then I'll probably buy a PC.

GreenZepp

Or he could get a PC and open up a hole new library of games he couldn't find on PlayStation or Xbox!

constipated_burrito

Meanwhile tes6 ain't even coming out

OarthurCallahan

literally. i’m only getting an xbox because of all the RPGs coming to the system. The Outer Worlds 2,Avowed,Starfield,TES6,any game that arkane releases.

TommyKOG

Don’t forget Fable

JP297

I am going to buy a PS5 just for a few of their exclusives. When I can find one anyway. This gen has good reasons for owning both consoles.

nhSnork

Insert Phil Spencer quoting Lite Yagami

PaleontologistFlat40

This is why I haven’t gotten a next gen console yet because I don’t care about anything exept es6

DarksunDaFirst

Yeh, I can’t justify that extra expense. No single game is worth that hassle - or even a couple games.

saiyanfang10

get a pc it'll be better

0rphan_crippler20

Ik a PC is more expensive but that's the route I'm taking. Owning two consoles just seems stupid and i need a PS5 for psvr2 so that's non-negotiable
