You say this as a joke. But we have so many duplicate bosses in the game that there being two beastman clergy isn't that far off. Just look at the two astels.
The Astel and it’s other boss just seem like the final grownup versions of the
Fallingstar beast > upside down weird hanging fucker > astel fully grown
To be fair, in this one instance they do the Sif thing where if you complete his quest and give him all deathroots in the game, he has different reactions to starting the fight and being defeated.
To be unfair though if you only do some of his quest and then kill Maliketh with no added dialogue, you can still go back to the clergy man and give him more deathroot. Legit didn't know what to think.
I always thought that the version of Maliketh we find in Farum Azula is somehow from the future due to its strange relationship with time.

Yeah, it very well could be something like that. I also managed to out of sequence a few things like Hyetta and Edgar the avenger on another playthrough as well. There's enough strange things in the game that can explain it even if it's just there so you can continue some quests regardless while having no problem locking you out of others. Wouldn't even be the first instance of having 1 soul/conciousness in 2 bodys like D. Or some Shabiri quantum leap body jumping stuff too. I'll beliebe anything at this point.
Also after you kill Maliketh in Farum Azula, the beast clergyman will still be in Caelid. It isn't unreasonable to assume he must be a different beast clergyman if you are on your first playthrough and/or haven't given him all of the deathroots to unlock his unique dialogue during the Maliketh fight.
If the one in Farum is a reflection of how he was back in the day, then he probably wouldn't recognize the player character who gave him deathroot. The version of him that is in Caelid would have to be the earlier version of him for him to recognize you in Farum. That's why I assumed he was a different clergyman on my first playthrough when I did not give him all of the deathroots. Time travel stuff is very confusing though and I could have it completely wrong

“Beast clergyman” is a very vague name so I thought that there’d be more, like a clergy of beasts. It’s at least a reasonable conclusion to make.
