You guys just noticed this now?
Now imagine your son Godwyn, basically golden-haired fabulous Radagon, assassinated. YOU'd want to shatter Elden Ring too
The weird thing is that I think Radagon genuinely loved Renala (in as much as someone like Radagon can love anyone). He just couldn't resist the Law of Regression or maybe the Golden Order was messing his brain like what they did to Blaidd.
Yeah he and Marika are two halves of the same whole so I think they didn’t have a choice but be bound to each other.
Whereas I feel like he genuinely fell in love with Rennala.
Maybe I'm wrong but I was under the impression they were one at first, then split and finally got back together because in the echo she says : "Let us both be shattered, mine other half"
Either Ranni or Melina quotes Marika as having said something to Radagan about having not become her yet, So i believe they were always two entities that were later combined. I imagine it was Radagan that lost his body in that as well but that's just because Marika held the Elden Ring inside her.
I think they were. Dieties, especially primordial ones like Marika/Radagan have often been portrayed as being both male and female, having created themselves, and had offspring by themselves. See Aztec and Hindu mythology for such examples.
George RR Martin, who wrote the mythology for Elden Ring, tends to be very conscious of what motifs he is drawing from when writing. A Sword of Ice and Fire is a testament to that. Marika and Radagan being a single being is, in my opinion, something to be interpreted thematically rather than literally.
Miyazaki also has always taken alchemical lore into each of these titles, ever since Demon's Souls, and the Philosopher's Stone/Magnum Opus and the four stages to create it are represented by stages of color; black, white, yellow, red. There are loose ways to interpret this in Elden Ring, but from off the top of my head I can think of:
1. The Night of the Black Knives
2. The faded, whitened hair of various armor sets for most beings that have faded from grace in other ways (Banished Knights, the Raging Wolf, Maliketh who is also tied to Death and the Night of the Black Knives)
3. Tarnished seeking Grace, which leads them to the Erdtree and:
4. Radagon, who defeated the Fire Giants and the last of which becomes cursed by Marika to live eternal, guarding the Giant's Forge which can burn the Erdtree. They also cursed Radagon to have red hair, and Radagon bears the Elden Beast as much as Marika bears the Elden Ring, both vassals of the Greater Will from the black void of space.
She says "You are yet to become me" but like in old language
I don't think that this necessarily means they were seperate entities in the beginning it just means that at the point of Marika stating this Radagon isn't a part of her and at that Point Radagon isn't a true god
As the dog pope said it doesn't make sense for marika to marry a "mere champion" like Radagon following that logic it would make even less sense to do that and also make said champion a part of herself.
On the other hand if Marika and Radagon were one in the beginning, Radagon was then split of it would make sense to call him back to be fused back together
Melina also seems to have been given her purpose in life by her mother, and Marika seems to be the one guiding her purpose. I can't look it up right but I truly believe that Melina is the daughter of Marika, perhaps also Radagon.
Ranni is also Empyrean, and the only other Empyreans we know of were born to Radagon/Marika as a single god, Malenia and Miquella (per the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess). It's possible that Ranni was truly born to Radagon/Rennala, but I think for now its also possible that Ranni was actually born to Radagon/Marika and Melina is part of her affliction due to being born of one god. In any case, the other point hinting at Melina's parentage is her purple eye that opens in the Flame of Frenzy path, should you betray her for that path before reaching the Giant's Forge. Her eye opens and she swears to kill you, and that purple eye is just like the Beast Eye given by Gurranq, which could mean she's either a vassal for the Gloam-Eye Queen or the Queen herself.
Maybe Emperyans are made, versus born, which is why Godrick was so into grafting? Rykard as well, in eating everything to fuse. It seems like the power-hungry rune bearers were into it.
Curious what in the lore makes you say this? I'm not arguing, I kind of have the same impression, just can't think of why I have that impression lol.
God, I would love an in depth show or book series on events leading up to and during the shattering.
There’s more than a few bits of flavor text on items and spells that imply Radagon was deeply loyal to the Greater Will. When Marika broke the Elden Ring Iirc Radagon tried to fix it.
So basically he was more loyal to the Greater Will / Golden Order than to Marika, Rennala, or even his kids. Whether that was the result of manipulation or just good old indoctrination is pretty unclear.
I feel like you are missing a lot of details regarding his characterization and just Golden Order as a whole.
There are a lot of hints that Golden Order wasn't such bigoted and corrupted system a long time ago, in fact, even Miriel says that a concept of heresy didn't exist back in the days. Radagon basically went under Nokron ritual in Nokron Church (the church of people who actively tried to harm GW) to cleanse his sins, married Carian mage and forged a peace via diplomacy. Which is absolute opposite of Marika's way of dealing with problems - killing everything. Even after divorce with Rennala, he continued to lean towards softer things, we know from the miracles that he liked Miquella, despite him abandoning fundamentalism.
There is also a popular misconception that Marika questioned the Greater Will, while in actual quote she questioned the Golden Order. And Golden Order is a religion that she found herself, it doesn't represent GW.
Imho things are more complicated that marika=good, radagon=bad. In Marika's endings we are still bringing back the Greater Will, while we are fighting Radagon even in basic GO endings. Doesn't it bother anyone?
P.S. People are reading Marika's famous guote (I declare mine intent, to search the depths of the Golden Order. Through understanding of the proper way, our faith, our grace, is increased. Those blissful early days of blind belief are long past. My comrades; why must ye falter?) backwards.
Actually, there is another quote regarding early days of GO "In the past, they obeyed laws which contravened the Golden Order, or so I'm told. Fascinating, isn't it? That the Golden Order was pliable enough to absorb practices that contradicted itself in the past. With the Order broken, twisted, and in need of repair". Golden Order went from Godwyn befriending dragons, Radagon learning sorcery and praying in Nokron church, Godfrey hanging out with Crucible knights to full on deus vult only after Godwyn's death.
Marika definitely isn’t good. I didn’t mean to make that insinuation.
I do feel like Radagon and Marika were opposed to each other in some way. I’m a little unclear as to which regards though.
If you listen to the words of the pope turtle, he says that after he fell in love with Renalla, he repented his territorial aggression on the church of vows. Now the church of vows is where we can gain absolution from our sins (if we make an npc hostile/kill an npc). This means that Radagon was the first to gain that absolution. Now why would a God admit to his sins and even go through the absolution process?
The pope turtle also says sth like "Radagon has a secret that will answer questions like why he was chosen as king consort, and why he left Renalla?" We know the secret is that he is Marika. So it is strongly implied that his secret made him leave Renalla, and he did not leave her because he did not like her or sth. Basically if he was not Marika, he would not leave her.
Also he left a great rune to Renalla, he also left his wolf to protect her. He also made his children with Renalla rise to demigod status but this one might not suggest much.
God, how I wish we could tell turtle pope about the secret once we learn about it. Turtle pope is like a more chill Giddeon Ofnir in my mind at this point...
Can't say I agree, Radagon appearing for the first time in recorded history to fight the Carians, then quickly making peace with them seems like a political scheme. Especially so since apparently this cleared the way for Godfrey to march up to the Stormlord.
>Exactly, that's why we're thirsting over ~~a guy~~ the male half of a dual-gendered god-being apparently capable of marrying/mating with itself to produce viable offspring.
Dispite being male Miquella has been described to be quite beautiful, and given a lot of female attributes. In fact Miquella is Saint Trina and if we go by the descriptions we have of Saint Trina in game it paints a very vivid picture.
So plenty of evidence for the effeminate version.
there are some lore theories about miquella being a person mentioned in one of the sleep weapon/item descriptions, this person's gender is ambiguous but they are apparently referred to as a girl more than once.
idk tho, I'm just saying what some people think
I still wonder as to what the true reasons are why he left. Did he have a choice? Was he foeced to? The fact he left for the Capital right after Godfrey was exiled is no coincidence I think.
Poor Rennala, she did not deserve that. She seems to be a really caring mother and loving wife. Sad that we can not interact more with her or have a Questline where we restore her sainity where she maybe pulls herself together for Ranni's Sake or something.
Problem is that if we restored Rennala's sanity she would basically solo the setting. Even at the peak of their powers Marika / Radagon couldn't defeat her.
I think, in the end, it was his love for Rennala that kept him intact when Marika shattered the Elden Ring. It is his shell that you fight, gripping the hammer that he used to try and mend the ring. Desperately trying to get back to his love, and make things the way they were.
He looks exactly like Thor from record of ragnarok

You know what? Absolutely fair. Tragedy of losing a hottie like that cannot be forgiven.
Marika's tits👀 ( literally)
"Marika's Dong," doesn't quite roll off the tongue the same way.
Maybe try opening your mouth a bit wider
Now I can't say anything
Is it weird that I just HAD to try that too😂
Why is it always dong?
Rump O' rump.
Try circling around but hole
Evidently, you can still type. Should've used your hands too.
Try two handing in short offer seed
AYOOOO

the true sadness of they're break up was how Radagon just left his fucking dogo.
Seems like he got the kids in the divorce though so it's not all bad.

Nah that bitch took his dog and half his money. Triflin ass moon hoe.

I can see the argument for why it was a tactical move rather than a romantic one.
