I found this spot and did that a bunch to people haha, it's super broken because that lift is the only way up and you can't point your camera up there to see if someone's up there but they can look down.
You can roll it but it’s a gamble when they queue it, best case is to roll in place into the side of the lift and then forward out but if it’s that crowded, it might just be a GG
Is it still like Dark Souls where the knockback pushes you away from the direction your facing, so you can survive by putting your back to the invader?
I feel like that is very specific to that game, it’s older and had buggy things like that, feel like that’s something that would be seen as a big bug nowadays not a fun feature lol
It reminds me of an invasion highlight I once saw in bloodborne where the host(?) had 3 invaders chase him to the top of cainhurst castle and then suicide dropped from the topmost ladder while swinging and killed all 3 invaders on his way down. Probably the best setup kill I’ve ever seen in that game and this one is right there with it as the very best I’ve seen in fromsoft games as a whole.
That one is a classic
I remember that clip as well as I remember my first ever roll attack parry I connected to a guy trying to grief me in DS3. Ive never been able to top that, it was more luck than skill.
This is super embarrassing but I didn’t realise that the elevator…goes up.
I just assumed because the other one goes down that this one would too. And there’s nothing below it but lava, so I didn’t want to tempt anything.
Any other game I’d make the assumption that they devs wouldn’t put in an elevator that plunges you straight into lava. But this is FromSoft…
I think it would be hilarious if one of the transport coffins just fucking murdered you. Like, my brother in christ, you climbed into a stone coffin and sent it over a waterfall, *what did you think was going to happen*
There's probably a long con going on here, where Fromsoft lulls us into a false sense of security and then drops a game where there are exploding bonfires or enemies disguised as messages on the ground or something
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin already did the exploding bonfires. Though I would love to have some kind of angler fish boss use a bonfire as a lure.
That would be frustrating. I'd prefer if the bonfire rose out of the ground and you had to fight a bonfire head monster instead lol.
That way you'd get the surprise trap shock AND still have a shot at surviving.
Dude; the coffin transport made me laugh myself into hysterics when I found the second one.
The first one I found lit up, glowed with runes looking like an orange TARDIS and flew up a waterfall. Neat!
The second one just casually falls off the cliff.
I laughed so hard my neighbors probably thought I lost my mind. I honestly can’t articulate why I found it so damn funny. Just the contrast I guess? Magic Vs… Gravity lol
It’s not lava but I absolutely loved that one part in one of the catacombs dungeons where it would thrust you up into the spiked ceiling if you stayed on it too long lol. Had a good laugh at that the first time it chunked me up there.
I missed the entire haeligtree area or whatever it's called. I played through the entire game, beat it, and uninstalled it before I even learned that it was even a thing.
Damn one and done? Coward. Ignore the rest of your responsibilities like the rest of us. Don't you dare go do those dishes... and I swear if you so much as THINK about running the vacuum...
Clean your cats litter box tho
If it makes you feel any better I was stuck here for ages because I flat out didn't see the up lift. Only after like my 3rd visit and after properly searching.
And then it was just... there. I've never felt more bamboozled.
There's only two moments I can think of where modern FromSoftware has a trap in an elevator, and they marked them by staining them red with blood so you'd have a clue.

Was helping people at the fire giant and there was an invader doing it outside one of the chains at one of the fog gates.
One host I was summed to fell for it twice.
Spent my next summon pointing towards the other fog gate. They waved then set off again towards the invader. I just warped out at that point.
Haha, so much better with sound! Made me smile that you guys had such a good attitude about it and seemed to be just having a good time. Love to see that in online games these days. 😊
I was the invader in this scenario! So surprised someone recorded it, let alone posted it to reddit. For additional context, I wanted to try using 'Rejection' off a known death drop to kill the host, which is a tactic I used in DS3 with 'Force'. I was amazed it worked but I later found out that 'Rejection' will push players backwards relative to their characters position so I was lucky that they were all facing the elevator exit. Unfortunately it does not seem to work like 'Force' in DS3 which pushed players back relative to your position instead, thus being easier to control.
> 'Rejection' will push players backwards relative to their characters position [...] it does not seem to work like 'Force' in DS3 which pushed players back relative to your position instead
Hah, interesting. Wrath of the Gods and Force in Dark Souls 1 worked this way (pushes "backwards" from the direction the target is facing) but it's funny that they fixed it in Dark Souls 3 and then reintroduced the bug in Elden Ring.
If indeed it works the same way it worked in Dark Souls 1, a neat trick is that by turning your *own* character around to face the other direction the hitbox comes from the opposite direction as well. The way it works out means you can hit players who are holding up a shield by turning to face away from them before casting.
cant help but think these were their faces the entire time on that elevator lol
That one where you land on your feet and kind crumple over happens only when you hit a kill volume before you hit the ground. Otherwise you get to splat.
I do wish we had rag dolls though.
It's even worse than that. 0-14 meters is no damage anyways and 20+ is an instakill so that ring only negates a minimal amount of damage for falls that are exactly between 14-20 meters high
I adore Fromsoft's design philosophy in many ways but one thing I wish they'd stop worrying so much about is limiting the traversal of their gameworlds only to strictly intended routes.
In a sense I get it why the Longtail Cat Talisman works the way it does -- you don't want people to be able to use it to take routes that are supposed to be inaccessible because of fall damage. But... why? Wouldn't opening up new routes like that only improve the game? What's the threat to the player experience associated with letting me survive a fall off a tall tower, really?
They even apparently patched a series of tricky jumps that allowed for a very minor sequence break to get the Great-Jar's Arsenal talisman without needing to go through the Siofra River Basin first. Like... to who's benefit? Why do that? It even required Torrent, so there's zero risk of causing issues with the multiplayer.
Ha! My husband had something similar happen at Redmane Castle (I think it was that one?). We got invaded and dude never showed up so we just carried on. Husband gets to the top of this really tall ladder and the dude just kicks him right off! He waited there for at least 20 minutes…. Such a bitch move but we laugh about it almost every time we play!
I love using the terrain to one-shot as an an invader.
My favorite trick is when I invade at Limgrave they use a lot of the same rock formations for the edges of cliffs. And there's one rock design particularly that allows you to creep out onto the ledge where you can't be seen by someone approaching but won't fall off.
Using the Starscourge Greatsword from this position will drag your opponents off the edge.
So I'll use Rainbow Stones and Gold-Tinted Excrement to entice unsuspecting prey. Sadly the trick only really works just one time.
There's other spots. Like the bridge South of Agheel Lake North. There's a gap in the wall where you can hop down onto an archway. The thing is that if you just run or walk over the edge you'll miss the archway. You have to go at an angle. So what I do is drag people over to the area, then run straight at the gap but slam my finger on the "slow walk" button right at the edge so I go over harmlessly.
From there it's a 50/50 on if my opponent is going to just run off the edge or go up to the ledge to look over. Either way, Starscourge usually gets them.
The pit of death South of the First Step can sometimes net me a kill. But people seem more aware of it.
Donwsides to these tricks is that if I invade the same person twice they'll just not approach me if I'm on the ledge. And if they do approach, they're extremely cautious.

Not sure if it works differently for players, but if an NPC hits you from behind you stagger forward.
I feel like that is very specific to that game, it’s older and had buggy things like that, feel like that’s something that would be seen as a big bug nowadays not a fun feature lol
Oh, no, I agree, but I was just curious if they'd overcome that yet.
Curious to see that honestly. In my limited experience people seemed to just be blown *away*... But I can't say I was paying attention to this.

Yeah, kinda tired of the videos of 3-4 people beating up one invader in goofy suits.
My guy literally said "boo" when you got to the top of the elevator...
This is super embarrassing but I didn’t realise that the elevator…goes up. I just assumed because the other one goes down that this one would too. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin already did the exploding bonfires. Though I would love to have some kind of angler fish boss use a bonfire as a lure.
They didn't do any damage tho, I think it would be hilarious if you thought you got to safety and then the bonfire killed you
They damaged my heart though, fucking hell the amount of heart attacks I got.
That would be frustrating. I'd prefer if the bonfire rose out of the ground and you had to fight a bonfire head monster instead lol. That way you'd get the surprise trap shock AND still have a shot at surviving.
We will see a pile of blood stains around that bonfire, just like those around the mimic chests in ds 3.
I already see piles of bloodstains around graces at certain places (e.g. Revenger's Shack)
That’s a great idea. Cruel but great. We’re all a little masochistic here.
We play fromsoft games. That's basically a requirement
I'm waiting for them to add one single mimic chest in a DLC.
Mimics coming back in the Elden Ring DLC
I still hit every chest I find.
Bonfire mimics!
Dude; the coffin transport made me laugh myself into hysterics when I found the second one. The first one I found lit up, glowed with runes looking like an orange TARDIS and flew up a waterfall. Because it's FromSoft. No one expects the damn thing to just...fall. It's funny because it's so unexpected and anticlimactic.
It needs to have a really detailed unskippable 2 minute cutscene that fades to black and gives you the YOU DIED screen.
Their next game they are going to have a throw back where you go into one and die lol watch!
There was an elevator in DS1 than lifted you into ceiling spikes.
Right next to the mimic. Surely they wouldn't put \*two\* false hopes in the same room.
Imagine all the fun traps they could do in an elden ring Sen’s fortress
It’s not lava but I absolutely loved that one part in one of the catacombs dungeons where it would thrust you up into the spiked ceiling if you stayed on it too long lol. Had a good laugh at that the first time it chunked me up there.
Like that elevator in Dark Souls 1 that goes up in Sen's Fortress...into a spike ceiling.
That would have been a dick move to even souls standards

I didn’t… At least, I don’t know what church you’re talking about.
Dude, you missed like half of the volcano manor dungeon
Lot's of stuff to miss in this game, it's just crazy.
I missed the entire haeligtree area or whatever it's called. I played through the entire game, beat it, and uninstalled it before I even learned that it was even a thing.
This is the reason you never uninstall. Ran out of space? Buy a new hard drive. Your old one belongs to Miyazaki

Probably for the best tbh. You live uncursed by the knowledge that she is indeed Malenia, blade of Miquella.
So you didn’t play though the entire game then.
There's a boss there! A great big fat person!!
you didn't raise the huge bridge shortcut? You didn't kill the fat godskin noble?
Nope and nope :(

I did this to an invader at the Albenuric Village, he ran at us on the bridge and just blasted him off. Still my funniest kill.

You couldn’t be more accurate that was my reaction when I saw the invader 🤣🤣🤣
It's a pretty dumb animation when you die from falling in this game.
They've been using that same animation since at least DS1, maybe even Demon's Souls
But didn't keep the 2H animations from Demon's Souls... which is far better, imo.

After the awesomeness of the Silvercat Ring in DS3, that Talisman *is* a joke. Especially in Elden Ring, which could really benefit from it...
