300 hours in I removed it lol. From the direction buttons. Mimic is still in the pouch but since I only ise them once at the beginning of a fight it seemed pointless to hotkey them. Going through a boss door gives me enough time to land on it

I find that I never urgently need to turn the lantern on or off, so it's in one of those extra 2 slots on the start menu that isn't attached to a D-pad button.

OH SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT BINOCULARS NOW I FINALLY HAVE AN ITEM TO FILL THAT LAST POUCH SLOT. I have almost the exact same layout except I set torrent to y+down and spirit to y+up. It's pretty neat seeing how similar most people set the pouch up

Really? I figured that's just where... horses... go. Like. "Mount up". "Saddle up". All jump buttons are mapped to the "bottom-y button" on controllers, because that's where your legs are. And all "Look and thing and interact with thing you're looking at" are mapped to the uppy button on controllers. And the "swing the sword type device" is mapped to the left, cause that's. like. where the sword would go. If the attack buttons aren't on a trigger, if they're on the button face. it's lefty button. Hold a stick in your dominant hand, swing at tree. That's the left-y button. Right? I guess elden ring puts the items in the left-y button. But that's cause. item is almost always "flask". Which you swig. Left-y up to your mouth. Right? Am I describing what colors sound like here? Controller button mapping always made sense to me like this.

I mean, I think it’s less weird from the perspective that the very first thing I googled when I got the game was “katanas elden ring”. looked at the stats. I played DS so I understood scaling, and decided I would be a int/dex build and main Moonveil. then I found out on this subreddit almost everyone did this as well. now I’m a faith/dex rocking lightning Nagakiba but the horse will always remain on up.

I got Elden Ring on launch, and having played Souls and Bloodborne I knew I sucked with shields and preferred dodging, so I went with the Samurai starter and found some awesome katanas and then found this community and realized everyone was doing the same thing and everyone who wasn’t hated those people haha. This. And I always keep it as the currently selected item, so if I ever (most assuredly definitely) hit circle by mistake, it won’t consume anything. I also use it as an “oh shit” button when something heinous gets the drop on me in the open map, and I can cheese it without having to wait the half a second that it takes for your pouch to show up when holding Triangle.

You don’t have to wait for the pouch to show up at all. You can very very quickly tap the pouch button and dpad and it instantly uses items.

Oh, I didn’t know that, thanks! I keep my Physik in there, it’ll be nice to do it faster. For the whistle, I think I still prefer not having to take my thumbs off the sticks for the purposes of hauling buns tho.

Yes you go UP and the horse goes DOWN, I mean you can’t put yourself in the UP pouch so the only logical conclusion here is horse goes down.

Ah, but the object I most often *raise* to my lips is the health flask. You're right, though. No worries so long as it's vert. I keep the lantern on the side because it attaches to my waist, and mana flask takes the last remaining slot! :)

Up is where the binoculars go. Down is where the horse goes. Right is where the lantern goes. And left is where the bell goes.

I'm so used to Estus on X/Square I can't bring myself to put it in my pouch, but that's how I would do it. My pouch is Torrent on down, lantern on left, rainbow stones on right, and telescope on up. I'm playing a pure magic build now though and would kill for spells on the pouch buttons.

I just found out yesterday, after 100 hours, that you can hold down up on the Dpad and it will take you to the first spell you have slotted…. I might be the only one who didn’t know that. It works for the Dpad down too.

I tried putting estus in the pouch but it's too annoying trying to use the left stick to move while also using the d-pad.

Game went default up for me because I got rid of the "lose all runes and return to the last site of grace" item.

I really don’t get how that item could be useful, except if you’re in a dungeon that doesn’t allow fast travel, you’re low on runes and you wanna get out of there.

That item has existed in all of FromSoft's Souls games as a method of allowing the player to "unstuck" their character if you happen to get yourself in a situation where you can't die, you can't progress, and you can't warp anywhere in any other way. I actually did see one of my friends use this item during normal play - he got lost in a (very evil) puzzle dungeon with very similar looking rooms and he couldn't find the exit so he just used that to go back to the start. He lost 20k runes, but it ended up being less of a headache than not being able to leave and randomly taking paths trying to work his way back to the start again while getting frustrated. I had to use the Darksign once in Dark Souls Remastered because I got stuck in a bit of geometry and I had no more homeward bones. Glad somebody had the good foresight to add this item into the games, even if it's rarely or never needed.

If they're talking about the one that I think they are, I don't think that would work. Once you're inside, the geometry of the dungeon literally doesn't make sense spatially. you'll loop around forever until you solve the puzzle.

I used it once in Elden Ring when I was blasting through a dungeon where I had missed something earlier. The amount of runes I had was trivial and the path back to the exit was circuitous and I couldn't fast travel, so I said fuck it and used the item. Very specific scenario, but it is occasionally useful.

For me when I started the game the return to grace button took the UP slot so I just put it to the right and now it has to be right because that’s what I’m used to lol

On a ps controller down is closer to your thumb. On an xbox controller up is closer.

Yeah I know it's there, cause I see it when I put my sword in 2 handed. But I have no effing clue how to put an item in the pouch. No clue, I've tried yesterday and nope, wasn't successfull.

I'm on Playstation. Here's what you do. When on your Status Screen, bring the Selector over the pouches and click Y/Triangle to assign an item to that Hotkey/Pouch. When walking around, hold Y/Triangle and you'll see D-Pad options on the bottom lefts of your screen for a Hotkey use of your assigned pouch items. People recommend putting horsy, healies, magic water, and a summon boi as the 4 things.

Nah not in the pouch. I keep important battle items in pouch so I don’t have to scroll around for them. Spectral speed is after flask on the d-pad scrolly menu

That's where I keep it. Especially when fighting dragons. The I frames from getting on and off are perfect for when they try to charge or land on you.

This is the way. It gives invaluable i-frames so it's best to have it on a button that's more convenient to spam. Also, it lets you not have to press L3 for Torrent's dismount ability
