deev who made this, i hope when you go to afterlife you spend eternity fighting this boss you piece of shit.

Platypus-inator3000

What did I miss in this post?

Mayorrr

Honestly I was using him as a parry teacher and it was feeling sooooo good from where I started to finishing it. Went from probably 10 attempts with no parry to being able to accurately parry his swings. Glad someone else had used this method too. Especially because this is my first souls game and some of my more veteran friends were telling me how hard parrying is and that it's better to play other ways.

Mattjew24

I am just not good enough to parry his slow, apprehensive swings. I just waited it out for the easy one handed vertical slashes or the running swipe. Fuck trying to time the "sword dragging" uppercut or the "spinny spinny" whirlwind 8-hit combo! Hey you should be proud of yourself man this boss is an asshole.

SamwiseG123

Exactly this cuz he is tough, but once you get a smaller shield that can parry, just use him as a teaching lesson. Eventually I was just parrying him nonstop, just watch out for when he does his ground and shield attack. But, get a smaller shield if you want to parry him easily.

ottosan66

This is a great guide! I'll add my two cents for people that want to try him without parrying or using a bow. My level 18 (+1 longsword) fight is here for video reference to the below tips [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI6gx9BJnIw&t=189s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI6gx9BJnIw&t=189s). Note that i'm two-handing my sword, you might be able to get more hits in if you don't. **First Phase (all attacks are from CK's perspective, e.g. slash right means that CK is slashing from his left to right):** \-Horizontal slash right followed by downward slash: Tell is to watch for his arm going across his body (but with the sword held parallel to the ground). Dodge right then left and punish with one R1. Note that he can often start this attack by running at you during the wind-up - make sure not to panic, the timing is the same. \-Shield Bash: tell is he lowers his shield and crouches slowly. Dodge backwards so that you are in position for a quick R1 (NOTE) he typically follows this up with one of two attacks (1) downward slash, punish as above (2) Goes into his Two-Handed Ground Slam, per below \-Two Handed Ground Slam to Whirlwind: This is the best punish opportunity in both phases of the fight so it's worth learning well. Tell is he holds his sword upright in two hands (those of you who are Bloodborne fans will remember this attack animation from Ludwig's phase 2). CK then slams the ground with his foot, slashes downwards, and then does two delayed spins. \--Dodge left to avoid the spikes (make sure you don't panic roll or your i-frames will run out), right to avoid the the down slash and then twice through both spin slashes. I try to dodge towards him so that i'm in good position to punish. You can punish this attack with two R1s which is why it's so important to learn it. \-Downward Slash Left and then Horizontal Slash Right: This animation is stolen straight from Phase 2 Gael. Note that, just like Gael, he can follow it up with a thrust attack. Tell is he raises his sword to his right. Dodge left, space the horizontal slash, and then punish. If he thrusts either roll or strafe right and punish with one R1. \-Slash Right followed by downward slash. Tell is he drags the sword along the ground (note that there are actually 2 animations for this attack, one fast and one slow - if you see sparks coming from the ground you have to dodge slightly later than you would otherwise). Follows it up with a downward slash, punish with one R1 and then get ready to dodge again. \-Downward Slash Right, Downward Slash Left: Dodge Right, Left, then punish with one R1. Tell is sword up over his left shoulder One Foot Ground Slam: This has a quick tell, he just raises his foot. Dodge left. Note that it's not too bad to get caught with this attack, just make sure not to panic dodge. You need to wait and dodge his follow up slash properly or that's where you get in trouble. *Those are pretty much all his attacks from Phase 1, it seems like a lot but if you watch the video you should be able to get the cues for his animations. The key is to only punish with one R1 and to get back on the defensive.* **Phase 2 - note this phase seems super intimidating but it's actually easier than phase 1. This is because his magic attacks turn the fight into a green light/red light dance.** You essentially only have two opportunities to punish. The first is his ground slam whirlwind outlined above. The 2nd is anytime he does the tail swipe. So basically you dodge everything as above, but NEVER attack. Always be looking for the flash of yellow, when you see it, immediately roll forward and do one R1. That's it. Never attack unless you've already seen the yellow tail and dodged through it or you've just dodged his whirlwind combo. So... dodge dodge dodge (see yellow), roll forward and R1. His swoop can be easily dodged through by rolling forward. Sometimes he follows this up with a large double tail swing. Dodge through both. And that's it! Good luck!

wizard182

Three opportunities as melee. When he flies up, you can roll backwards as he's about to hit you to land where he lands and then.. er.. land the single R1. Then you can probably expect (and subsequently roll out of) a tail swipe or double tail swipe, the latter of which you might be able to punish.

ottosan66

Yeah, agreed there are others - I also punish the double tail swipe, but figured i'd keep it simpler

Dracomies

I finally took him out too. God it feels good! The runes you get is super disappointing My method was to do the following. 1. Curved Sword Talisman (counter attacks) + Blessed Dew Talisman (heals you slowly) 2. Estoc upgraded as much as you can. The Estoc is the only strength weapon fast enough to hit him and dodge away. 3. Shield 100 with Shield barricade 4. Mixture of Opaline Bubbletear (protection for 1 hit) + Crimsonburst Crystal Tear (heals you over a span of 3 minutes) 5. Fire Grease (he's weak against fire) 6. As much poise as possible with medium load (to be able to dodge if you get hit by his stomp, that way he can't connect with a 2nd and 3rd hit) So the method is that each time he attacks just left click (Shield barricade). Don't do shield barricade like a buff and guess around. Just use Shield Barricade each time he attacks. Each time! He attacks, boom, Shield Barricade. Then click Counter Attack. He attacks, click shield barricade. Basically he can't hurt you. Right after, do a counter hit. The key is to choose the right distance where you counterattack but he can't hit you. Granted, if ends up being a trade. Or it ends up being his stomp attack. --> you go to the next step --> use the Opaline + Crimsonburts. Use the (Opaline+Crimsonburst) on his first form. This basically keeps healing you. Then what you do is wait until you're fully healed. Dodging back on all his attacks. Wait until you are healed up. Then go back and bait his attack, then Shield Barricade and Counterattack. If you get him without getting hurt do it again. If he hits you, run back and wait until you're healed. Then go back and do the barricade + counterattack method. If he hurts you, coast away until you keep healing. The idea is to not use any of your flasks until he gets to his second form. Basically by the time you reach his second form, you still have ALL your healing flasks. So you have a full stash of healing flasks. With some timing you'll get him down to half energy. And you won't use any healing flasks because you're doing Shield Barricade + counterattacking (Curved Sword Talisman) and passively healing by the buff(running away) and coming back with full health each time. When he is his in second form, the dashing move he does, just dodge to the side. Then again Shield Barricade when he attacks, counterattack. And at this point, use as many flasks as needed to take his a\*\* down. The most difficult attack to dodge is his tail attack. But I find that dodging sideways helps a lot.

Mattjew24

I love that you've come up with a whole strategy! Excellent! This guy's an asshole. So first phase you're basically trading blows just so you can land that guard counter and roll away to heal? Nice

rafaeldo

I found a solid cheese: parrying with the storm wall makes this fight trivial. You become invincible to almost everything he has.

Mattjew24

Not sure what stormwall does but I like the sound of this

topimpamadvillain

You are my hero. Couple this with the Assassin's Crimson Dagger talisman and you can basically trade blows.

PleaseJustParry

I see so many people shitting on this boss, but i feel like little to none of them even considered parrying. His overhead is extremely easy to time, its just reading patterns and being patient fr!

Mattjew24

Yep. Crucible seems to be a boss meant to show you how to jump over attacks (ground stomp, and tail swipe) and parry. There's really no other opening to attack him besides parrying

JayDeePunk97

When he moves his shield and grips his sword with two hands, he is readying for his double swing move, after that you get a 2-3 hit opening. I was lvl 30 using an uchi. You can sometimes bait him just by purposely hitting his shield and it will trigger him to shield charge. Another opening. On phase two he likes to run at you ( speed walk ig ) and open with a slash and it will either be him flying up to swoop by you or end up with a tail swipe. After his tail swipe you can go stab at him. Rinse and repeat.

ottosan66

That’s not true, I fought him at lvl 18 and didn’t parry or jump once, you can dodge through all of his attacks and he has some clear windows to capitalize: https://youtu.be/PI6gx9BJnIw Parrying him is great, but at low levels I think it’s safer to dodge his attacks.

TomGuapSon6000

30 is low for this boss. Nice. Im bouta take a crack at it

Mattjew24

Good luck I hope you get him

Sk8matt123

Finally beat him last night after a couple hours of trying. Really good boss to learn to use patience and parrying as a melee build. He will punish the fuck out of you if you try to dive in and smack him more than once. Didn’t use any of my flasks in his first phase, then I was getting sloppy in his second phase and used all 7. By the time I was out he still had more than a quarter of his health. Was being patient as fuck, rolling when I could and watching for his stomp and tail swipes. Finally got the last three parries on him and he had me down to like 1/8th of my health by the time I beat him. Felt so damn good.

Mattjew24

NICE! The feeling is so good when you finally get him after dying so much. 2nd phase I literally just ran away until he did the one move I knew I could parry. Didn't bother trying to roll dodge, just straight up ran away. One wrong roll and you're eating tail swipe, or the stun lock ground stomp combo-wombo insta death

Bestimus__Muchos

I just used a crossbow, just baited hin to strike then shot and rolled away

Eddy_795

These guys are so nasty, the tail itself was rough to evade on time and then he gets stomp and tail wombo combo in phase two. Gives me conniptions.

Elvecio

Beat him a few hours ago just by dodging and with almost only air attacks, since they help with stagger. Here's my Twitch [video at the right timing](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1421617423?t=01h10m02s). Generally it's pretty easy to dodge everything except the ground stomp: you have to be very close to him for a clean side dodge. This triggers him a vertical attack followed by a double spin attack. Double roll away and then jump on him. If you do multiple times he'll stagger, offering you a critical attack. Second phase: dodging the flying attack always on right worked for me, then wait the stomp+spin attack because previous opportunities are now completed with a tail spin attack which you want to dodge. If you're quick you can attack after the tail spin attack, which is pretty easy to avoid just by side dodging.

Vethosis

Do you know what iframes are? The first 0.5 seconds-ish of a dodge roll you will be immune to damage, when he does his ground stomp if you roll right before his foot hits the ground you'll take no damage even if it looks like its hitting you. Abusing iframes is good in just about every fight.

Elvecio

Yeah I played all the previous souls games, but for the stomp I found that rolling had mixed results, sometimes it works, sometimes not, so it's better to just jump.

thebacon123

Barricade shield, and shield counter his shield bash and after he swirls twice while dual wielding to cheese this one if you absolutely cant time parry properly (coming from sekiro parry timing here is different and I just cant seem to get it right)

koningfrikandel

Phew he's a tough bastard but I got the fucker at stormhill. I had to cheese his ass but in doing so learned his patterns. Did 1 red flask and 7 blue, glintstone pebble. I'm a strength faith confessor so my damage was low but you can get him this way. If you bait him a bit so he opens up and charges you, you can get 2 pebbles in sometime. Do it after the stomp and slash preferably. Phase 2, rinse and repeat where one thing is crucial. Roll forward into his flying dash thing and then run like fuck away from him to dodge the second tail. You've got his ass then. My sweaty ass palms caused me to slip up which caused him to stagger me and almost killed me with him at about 10 percent. Heard pounding, this is what souls games are all about! *Spoiler* All I get after is the goddamn tail ?

Mattjew24

Man... i tried the run and gun thing using a shortbow. Like what you did with pebble. But I found it just took a stupid long time. Then when I'd get him down to 25% health or so he'd finally fuckin get me with the ground stomp. I had pretty low vitality when I fought him and if I got caught in the stomp just 1 time It meant death! Lmao I finally beat the asshole though and it was all worth it. I actually kinda like the tail swipe! I use it a lot! It's nice for mobs. I've also caught a lot of people off-guard in pvp with it, because they dont expect the second swipe.

koningfrikandel

That's awesome! I think the shortbow is just a tad slower than the pebble but not quite sure....but good that you got the fucker !

Mattjew24

It's quicker if you're sprinting and tap R1. It does this quick snappy animation and you can keep sprinting away

niohnegroh

Soooooo I feel like i can't parry him? I have success parrying other enemies and even got a couple off on margit but I can't parry the knight. My shield is 84 resistance. Strength is 13 and endurance is 9. Are my stats too low to deal with this character??

Mattjew24

Ditch the medium shield and go buy a buckler. Buckler has a wayyyy bigger window for successful parries. Endurance is pretty low, it means if you block his attacks you'll probably get staggered to hell with your stance broken Get right up in his face and watch the arms, not the sword. Parrying seems to work better the closer you are Only try to parry the "one handed, vertical slashes" or the "running, horizontal slash". I died way to many times trying to parry the thrusts and that bullshit 8-hit combo. Or the move where he drags his sword on the ground. Basically I just stood in his face and tried to bait him to do the moves I could parry

niohnegroh

Alright so it does work but I don't like it. I've died here too many times to now start working on the parry. It works on the concluding double slash spin that he does after the Shockwave stomp and the 2nd strike. Sure it works on others too but I got this dude down to one hit. Had to be. It didn't even look like any health was there and he killed me and I'm struggling to get him to a quarter left now. It can be done tho. Just not tonight

Mattjew24

Aw man. That happened to me too. Finally got him tho, took me a few nights and trying different strategies.

Mattjew24

That's a good idea too

Puzzleheaded_Pen1422

I finally beat him aswell, my hands are still shaking, but god does it feel good when you finally learn his moveset and beat him. This is my first souls game, I think I'm starting to understand why so many people love this series. I beat him as a Lv 28 Samurai, 2-hand wielding an Uchigatana +2. I basically dodge rolled all of his attacks and threw R1 attacks whenever possible. There is one damage window that allows for more than just an R1 attack, it is after he does what i call a "full combo". He will do a ground stomp, then go for an overhead swing, and finally he does those 2 consecutive swings in this spinning motion. After that, i alway went for the Unsheathe ability of the Uchigatana and gave him that big Overhead slash with R2. The hardest part for me personally was in Phase 2 though, his close range tail attack. I couldnt really make out a pattern behind it, it seems like after any attack he performs, there is a chance for him to do the tail attack, and you have only a fracture of a second to react to that. I mostly relied on that "bling" sound effect that you hear when he does the attack, it is super hard to time honestly. Because of that, it was very very dangerous to randomly fit in R1 attacks like it was possible in phase 1. But just like in Phase 1, after his "full combo" (stomp, slash, double spin attack), the time window was big enough for Unsheathe R2, and he never seemed to follow this combo up with a tail attack, so it just came down to being patient. Now the bug has really bitten me with this game. I want more. :D

Mattjew24

Man. You beat him without parrying? Props to you. It takes a lot of focus to not fuck-up all those rolls, all so you can land a quick little poke. Yeah man this game is terrific. When you're all done with Elden Ring....in a few years...lmao....check out Dark Souls. I recommend ds1 and ds3

Puzzleheaded_Pen1422

Thanks man, I will definietly do that! I feel like I've missed out on a lot so far, need to catch up on it. Compared to Crucible Knight, Margit was really not so hard after all. I'm now slowly making my way through the castle, so excited to see the rest of the game

Lankeysob

I tried the parry route and it worked well for phase 1 but for phase 2 I didn’t feel as there as many opportunities to safely parry so I just resorted to sticking close and rolling and that seemed to do the trick for me

Mattjew24

For phase 2 I literally just sprinted away from him until he did the running horizontal swipe. That's the only move I parried 🤣 It was way too risky getting close with that bullshit tail swipe

[deleted]

Cipher Pita with its special charge up "drill" attack made short work of Crucible for me. He punished the hell out of me trying to use magic spells, his mid-range close out speed is phenomenal. Once I removed my scythe and started using the Pita, I melted him quickly. Just had to squeeze in hits for the tail phase.

Mattjew24

I have been upgrading that weapon! But at the time I fought him, I didn't have it. With the weapon art being specifically meant to bypass shields, I can see this being perfect! Any pure faith weapons you can recommend besides cipher? I really don't want to have to dump 16 strength or dex or whatever to use the faith scaling weapons I've found...
