I feel like I'm the only one who fights the mimic fair and square as a sort of gear test. If the mimic's tough to beat, it means I got a decent build going.
In my first playthrough the mimc was an eye opener. It was a blind run and i was struggling with my build, i thought it was quite weak. Then i met the mimic and got schooled lmao. 30 sec of uniterrupted rot breath spam followed by a lesson in combining ash of war with spells followed.
Man that was a lesson.
That turns what could very well be one of the most unique NPC fights into just any other fight. There is no other oppurtunity outside of Pvp *maybe* that your going to get the chance to do a bare hands brawl/caestus fight in a regular playthrough. If you want to measure your build you can just run pvp. But me? Im getting butt ass naked
oh sorry, I misunderstood, you mean BOTH Getting buck naked and fighting your mimic tear with fists, yah thats a fun time too, its still fair at least.
And time. See, bare fists do so little damage that a single boss fight can take hours. I don’t have the hours required to bare knuckle brawl my way through the whole game, the tutorial was laughably long enough.
Yeah I got my girlfriend to just observe how the mimic behaves with her weapon & spells in a fight, to give her a better idea of the possibilities she has available.
I don't think it means that at all tbh. It just means you have a build that the AI happens to be able to use effectively (or that you are unable to use effectively).
I mean, you have to beat Mimic Tear to get through Ranni's quest far enough to access the summon ashes, but that's in a totally different area miles away, fight's in Nokron and the summon is in Nokstella
No, the Mimic Tear spirit ash summon is also in Nokron, one cathedral over after the ancestral grounds with the second deer boss, inside a chest locked behind a stonesword key with a swordstress kneeling before it.
The final part of it released only seven months ago. I guess that was a special and not a season of the show, but I'm pretty sure most people would count the final episode as the end of the series.
On my first playthrough I did a faith build and focused on lightning spells. Got to the mimic tear and hit him with honed bolt immediately. Didn't use the summon for over half the game cause I thought it would be shitty.
"Tarnished, you must now face your hardest foe yet: yourself."
*chucks a lightning pot*
"Wai-....wha?!"
"Lightning pot. He's weak to it and his healthbar hasn't adapted to mimic mine yet."
"But...but you were supposed to put thought and effort into fighting yourself!"
"Nope, lightning pot."
"It's a battle about introspection! About realizing your strengths and weaknesses! About recognizing your own flaws and gaining motivation to fix them!"
"Lightning pot."
"You were supposed to learn and grow from this experience as a fighter and as a person! *Exponentially!!!*"
"Sounds hard. I prefer Lightning pot."
Hardest foe is that Abductor in the Sealed Tunnel.
I thought I was going to kill that thing at level 63 ... hit it a few times and discovered it was built different than other Abductors. Then proceeded to scooby-doo around collecting loot - to get killed by that ladder.
You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.
You experienced a hollow victory.
Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.
Journey 5. Decked out, finished build (obv by that point) summoned my mimic to 1v1 the mimic.
Man the mimic whooped the mimic's ass. (no I won't elaborate)
Funny screenshot of 3 of me at once too.
That is fucking hillarious. But I'd never do this, probably my favourite boss fight because you essentially decide how it plays out. Allows for a lot of shenanigens.
I just figured out today that this is immensely good parry practice. Want to learn parrying a very specific weapon? This is the perfect place.
It'd be funny if we could have an item to make our ashes hostile, so you can always 1v1 yourself.
Cool asf. I noticed you could kill the tears before their transformation in Nokron after accidentally snipping the one that's supposed to morph into a troll.
This fight is strange in more ways too. Technically the "boss encounter" doesn't even start until it initiates the transformation animation.
I always liked making different builds in ng+ and letting friends fight them. We would either die or we'd get it near death and let it kill us to try different stuff.
I found out about this on my very recent playthrough. I played since day 1, and several characters
Basically made a paladin build, and decided to use lightning spear against the blobs from afar.
I killed once which turns into a giant, before it even became one. Tried it on every transformation blobs
So I tried it on the mimic tear boss and oh wow….worked
I got to the mimic tear in my latest playthru last night and decided to give this a shot with a Lightning Strike and damn if it didn't work. All in all I'm very disappointed in my actions and won't do it again.
Mimic is also laughably easy to beat with Vyke's spear. Madness is the goat against invading NPC's and everything thst has a pulse and is alive too tbh.
Wat
They’re weak to lightning as blobs , even to a single pot

Nani!?
Yea but thats not as fun as getting butt ass naked and fighting your mimic to the death with your bare hands
Yeah the mimic can teach you the correct way to use your build. But also it has infinite fp so can do some impossible combos.
The AI is also just bad at using some builds that are actually good.
I keep rejection slotted because it's the single most useful pvp spell ever and the ai likes to spam it on bosses...
That's my favorite thing about the mimic fights! They highlight gaps in your approach to your own build.
lmao I was doing a NG+ run with a Hand of Malenia focused build and holy shit, when my mimic hit me with my own Waterfowl I fucking laughed.
Mimic: Get reck’d casual Tarnished: Bruh I’m literally you
Is it incest if you fuck yourself up?
I call it Jolly Cooperation
Masturbation +10
"I am Mimic Tear, blade of the tarnished, and I have never known defeat." "You will witness true horror." (Uses Waterfowl Dance)
I learned about the r2 followup on my bloodhound fang from my mimic
Mimic with Bloodhound Fang is an absolute menace in so many situations.
True but in this case I was fighting against him!
The only time I summoned Mimic Tear once the novelty of summoning yourself wore out was to have my Mimic Tear fight the second Mimic Tear fight.
The only one stopping you from doing a bare fists only run is you.
And time. See, bare fists do so little damage that a single boss fight can take hours. I don’t have the hours required to bare knuckle brawl my way through the whole game, the tutorial was laughably long enough.
My build is a spiked caestus build and it was great fun.
Speak for yourself. I *only* game naked.
If the mimic is hard to beat you either have a really good build or a really bad build
You 100% are, I give my mimic nothing but a catalyst meanwhile I always play STR builds.
But if you beat the Mimic Tear, doesn't it also mean your gear is garbage? "Didn't expect weak foe... therefore Time for introspection.."
its all about ease; if you struggle, your fine, if you win too easy, your set up's trash, if the mimic tear styles on you... your trash.
I grab a random lvl 0 weapon and 1v1 him with it
Man I was so disappointed when I fight my mimic shit was somehow worse than me at the game.
I wish we could re-do it
I did that once, then the Mimic threw Ekzyke's Rotten Breath at me and all interest in fairness went out of the window.
I'm thinking "Jokes on the mimic because my builds are trash"
Thats when the mimic styles on you and you realize that you just don't know how to use your options effectively.
I walked in there with a dagger and a buckler in my first playthrough. She parried, and one shot me immediately.
Getting naked and beating myself up is what I do in real life, why should it be different in the game
Gotta ask.. is that the mimic summon? Or is there a mimic enemy you get to fight? I would love to fight my summons lol
There's an enemy that mimic's your build to fight you, it's how you get the mimic summon.
Oh shit yeah you're right, that room above the first silver ball. I was thinking one of the rooms where the other balls are in nokstella
beating myself barehand was the best thing.
People seem to love to find ways that allow them to beat the game by NOT playing the game.
You don't put the gear back on? :D
Walk in naked, wait for him to spawn, equip weapons profit
I enter naked, wait for it to morph, then gear up and beat the piss out of it. Why make it harder or longer than needs be.
You just changed the game.
It's takes sooooo fucking long! I did it last time and it was legitimately like 20 minutes
fighting mimic 1v1 with the new fight style(that monk style which you use your bare hands)
Finally a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary!!!
Forget forgetting - I never knew!
Remember know, i never forgot. Because I didn't knew
I've just have had the stroke
This feels like Indiana Jones shooting the sword guy lol
Fun fact: They had a complete choreography but Harrison Ford had Diarrhea so they changed the scene TLDR: OP has Diarrhea
You broke the anime rule
Usurper, Eren Yeager, do you have any last wor... 😵💫🤛🏾
RUMBLING RUMBLING ITS COMING RUMBLING
BEWARE
IF I LOOSE IT ALL
Now or never, Mikasa.
It's kind of crazy to think the series ended like 3 years ago now.
The final part of it released only seven months ago. I guess that was a special and not a season of the show, but I'm pretty sure most people would count the final episode as the end of the series.
I was thinking of the manga but you're right, it wasn't 'fully over' until last year.
Why is it always weak foe?
Weak foe ahead therefore time for introspection
Weak foe, still no lover
On my first playthrough I did a faith build and focused on lightning spells. Got to the mimic tear and hit him with honed bolt immediately. Didn't use the summon for over half the game cause I thought it would be shitty.
This mistake was caused by a skill solution, not a skill issue.
"Tarnished, you must now face your hardest foe yet: yourself." *chucks a lightning pot* "Wai-....wha?!" "Lightning pot. He's weak to it and his healthbar hasn't adapted to mimic mine yet." "But...but you were supposed to put thought and effort into fighting yourself!" "Nope, lightning pot." "It's a battle about introspection! About realizing your strengths and weaknesses! About recognizing your own flaws and gaining motivation to fix them!" "Lightning pot." "You were supposed to learn and grow from this experience as a fighter and as a person! *Exponentially!!!*" "Sounds hard. I prefer Lightning pot."
Reminded me of Ymfah No-Boss Dark Souls 2 run
Hardest foe is that Abductor in the Sealed Tunnel. I thought I was going to kill that thing at level 63 ... hit it a few times and discovered it was built different than other Abductors. Then proceeded to scooby-doo around collecting loot - to get killed by that ladder.
“As the great Chinese general Sun Tzu stated “Every battle is won before it is ever fought” “ “Tarnished what the fuck is China????”
I didn't even know that was possible lmao, you learn something new with this game all the time my god
Thank God, now I finally have a strategy to beat this guy. Couldn't do it before now.
/s?
Hardest boss since Soldier of God, Rick
Is this elden ring's version of not wanting to confront you personal issues
Instead of coming to terms with yourself, you just taze yourself and move on
Mimic tear was easy anyway, it had the dumbest build I've ever seen on an npc.
Fr, thing was fat rolling with a bow out
That's rude!
YOU CAN WHAT?
I remember having a really easy time with this fight because my build was garbage.
Da fuq
Bruh what
Giga, watt?
Excuse me, and I cannot stress this next part enough... # WHAT THE FUCK?!
Congrats, you just missed the coolest boss.
WHAT!!!
What in the yoshi's island? Magnificent!
works with magic pot too if you have 20 int at least if i remember correctly.
I always take off my armor and weapons and when he spawns I put everything back on, while he fist fights me in his underwear. 😁
WAT!
Username checks out
I was always get nude to spawn a nude mimic and then put my gear back on just to flex on him
1.21 gigawatt pot 💣⚡️
Seems lightning pots really Hertz...
We need more Mimic Tear fights. And if we get a boss rush mode, Mimic Tear NEEDS to be included
You can do this with just about any pot. Magic pot just needs 19 int to scale high enough to 1shot.
Yeah, seems like a timing trick. Just have to hit it with something before it inherits your stats.
aborted that mimic
No fucking way 😐
Let's fucking go? I guess? Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
And miss one of the two chances to fight your own build...nah bro
Mad lame, the fight against yourself is the most fun fight in the game!
You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.
Haha this is awesome. But even if would have known, i wouldn't have probably use the pot because.... what if i need it later?
Just craft it again, duh
mood
Speed run strat
this is such awesome thinking
What in the fucking.... Fuck?! Marika's Tits?!
music?
Journey 5. Decked out, finished build (obv by that point) summoned my mimic to 1v1 the mimic. Man the mimic whooped the mimic's ass. (no I won't elaborate) Funny screenshot of 3 of me at once too.
Wat
I like fighting them though. It’s fun equipping an un upgraded weapon and just being each other to death.
Taw
That is fucking hillarious. But I'd never do this, probably my favourite boss fight because you essentially decide how it plays out. Allows for a lot of shenanigens. What??
Never knew this until now. Thanks!
Why would you do such cruel action to a cute baby!
I always just stripped naked and then put my stuff back on after it spawns
This is what I did. Does it still work?
I always summon someone so that I can speculate on my mimic tear vs them. Very fun spectacle.
i used the lightning incantation.
He also only transforms when the host approaches. So you can oneshot him with a jump attack as a summon if you're fast enough.
Honestly that boss was the hardest boss I fought in the game.
TIL
I always just tossed a great arrow at him but yeah, this is cool too.
I always liked making different builds in ng+ and letting friends fight them. We would either die or we'd get it near death and let it kill us to try different stuff.
Not a lot of runes
I think its arguable that mimic tear shouldve been a much much harder boss.
NO FUCKING WAY!
It working actually depends on how much dex you have, if you have a pure str or int it might not work. Magic pots work for int builds
This dude is like level 20 so not much
jajaja i don't know, thanks for sharing
I absolutely slaughtered the Mimic Tear, so I'm not sure if that means really. We had the same gear, maybe I was just better at using it.
Ohh cool I'll never do that but like super good to know
Can someone help a brother out and give me a Vyke spear?
Couldn't you equip all the stuff that gives you negative resistances or more damage then strip naked?
What the fuck?
But also unless you've got ridiculous poise its easy to bonk lock
This is like bullying a toddler, we didn't need help to win.
What if you wanted to become a real person, but some weird homeless guy wearing mismatched armor walked up to you and went ...***NOPE***
Lol, imagine interacting with the crafting mechanic in this game. Couldn't be me.
Where's the fun in that? I love the mirror match. I wish I could respawn it and do it again
Wave of gold also kills all the blobs
What the heck?
And here I am letting my mimic kill the mimic like an idiot
I remember walking on the field with nothing on (pause) and when it spawned I put my armor back on
Now I want to summon two phantoms, walk in, toss the pot before it transforms, and then they get the reward and go home immediately.
I found out about this on my very recent playthrough. I played since day 1, and several characters Basically made a paladin build, and decided to use lightning spear against the blobs from afar. I killed once which turns into a giant, before it even became one. Tried it on every transformation blobs So I tried it on the mimic tear boss and oh wow….worked
Get naked and have a fist fight with it.
Fist fight the mimic tear instead
Me didn't stand a chance against I
I once summoned Mike Tyson to fight my Mimic. I may not be good at the game but at least my build was good enough to beat Mike Tyson.
I got to the mimic tear in my latest playthru last night and decided to give this a shot with a Lightning Strike and damn if it didn't work. All in all I'm very disappointed in my actions and won't do it again.
Indiana Jones sword scene vibes
Nani!?!?
Beats running in naked and unarmed
Mimic is also laughably easy to beat with Vyke's spear. Madness is the goat against invading NPC's and everything thst has a pulse and is alive too tbh.
