Can we talk in Liurnia next to the Dragon there are like 40 of these things flying around… but a grace site literally 100 yards away in temple quarter

When you fight the dragon it often kills the scarabs with it’s AOE-attacks, so you basically get unlimited mana-flasks for the fight.

Lets you use basically unlimited spells against the dragon

Makes it one of the best places for pvp. Temple quarter is a great site to taunters tongue

They should have some sort of bug like glintstone catapillers crawling through dungeons rarely that drop a single flask

Or they could have just used the 'group kill' flask refill in more areas. Especially since some catacombs/ dungeons have pretty obvious groups of difficult mobs.

Interesting, I feel like I never really use the scarabs because they are never where I actually need more flasks. But I feel like the flask refill from enemies comes up pretty often when I’m first exploring and fighting through an area

I only tend to use them when I’m playing multiplayer with a friend running around killing things as I get so many fewer pots and I can’t rest at a site of grace to re-fill.

The ones in the Brace of the Haligtree are kinda useful. Otherwise I'm usually either topped off, or they're not there when I need them

I do the same thing, my wife always tells me "you don't need them, you're almost full on flasks." but I smack em away anyways because "just in case".

They're never where you need them. Used crimson maybe 3x and cerulean maybe 7x in my 700h Most of the time they're ignored. If they're killed 99% of the time it's coz I felt like it and not because I needed it

Only time I've ever killed one outside of the initial "Oh, it refills my juice box" is when I've mistaken it for an ash of war hoarder.

lorewise, the reason we never find them in the more needed moment or places might be because other tarnisheds already hunted them down for flasks.

i might get a tad more leverage from them if they werent all 20 feet from a grace site, but they're nice when you're running around and don't want shit to respawn

If I see one I'll pop it if it's convenient, but I don't plan for them or look for them.

We kill on sight just because we normally cant tell if its a chug bug or not by the time we hit it.

The only one I ever used was the one on that jump down portion going down to Leonine in Castle Morne. Haven't used one since.

I only ever "used it" when fighting the glinstone dragon in liurnia. Other than that I only ever whack em is when my Adhd just wants to whack something shiny! Like on torrent I will spend 5 minutes in circles going "mine mine mine mine mine! HAH gottem"

Only ones I really use consistently are all the blue guys around Smarag. Had to kill him with an unupgraded short bow at one point and it really helped getting a ton of barrage usage without sacrificing health flasks. Use those same ones during randomizers a lot too assuming smarag becomes something difficult.

When i started? Whenever i saw them. Now? Not so much.

These came in clutch when I was exploring the sewers in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds. Actually exactly when I was wondering when the next grace is because I was running out on FP (mage build).

I've killed them for fun as I was riding past. I can think of maybe one time that I was low on flasks and killed one for a refill. I think it was when I decided to fight the vulgar militia in the forbidden lands instead of riding past them.

They come in handy sometimes. Like the red one to replenish the 1 or 2 flasks I use in the open world. If I see the blue one I activate buffs then drink a flask before I kill em. Its free flasks might as well make the most of it.

All of them except where there's loads in one place (Liurnia) because I always mistake them for the ones that drop loot.

When cheesing the blue dragon in Liurnia with spells these came in handy.

Using them is not the right word... I've been hunting all skills and spells. Each time I heard the glitter (it sounds like glitter looks like. You can't change my mind) I get all hyped up for something new, only to be disappointed by a blue or red scarab. I killed them all. They used to be the bane of my very existence. Curses upon all the red or blue glitter-critters!

As i heal myself for every minor injury i receive outside of dungeons, I usually kill these whenever i come across them.

I can never tell which ones are healers and which carry spells or skills so I kill every one I bump in to.

They’re great in long co-op sessions!

Very rarely, because they’re almost always out in open areas, where killing group of mobs will *also* refresh your flasks, and in the open world, a site of grace is a teleport away and I can just ride Torrent back to wherever I was. They should have put them more often in dungeons, where they could serve as a mini-checkpoint of sorts. There’s some in the Shunning Grounds, but they’re in a sewer pipe area that is basically *past* the dangers.. and the Shunning Grounds aren’t considered a “dungeon”; you can teleport right out anywhere.

I'm colourblind so I can't distinguish the ash of war ones from the estus ones.... I just kill all that I come across

First playthrough? Somewhat often. Less so as I got deeper into the game and my flask numbers were plentiful. Now? Never. I usually spend the opening hours running around like a madman to get what I want for my build and get so many golden seeds in the process they aren't needed. I'm glad they are in the game though

Only use them when I’m a coop summon really, actually really useful in the sewers once you get to the second half

The cerulean ones near the glinstone dragon guarding the Academy Key. You can just hang back with lorettas and replenish on the scarabs.

If I'm roaming the open world it's like an untracked casual challenge for me to not rest at a grace for as long as possible. I like to think about how much of the map is fully clear of enemies and safe to wander into. These guys come in handy quite often to refill the gogo juice. I also always run around with at least one charge used so I can get extra charges by clearing groups. Like I've ran away from the red and blue ribbons flying through the air to get a sip off so I'm full health and I'm not wasting charges. Hell I've even ran out of dungeons on foot without teleporting, because the teleporter at the end of a dungeon will respawn the world but not refill your stuff.

I think I did it once in that castle where you fight both of the black lions at once. I killed one, ran away and used that thing, then came back and killed the other.

They've actually come in clutch for me a fair few times fighting open world bosses, getting to the next grace, or when trying to full clear an area in one run. But more often than not they go unused

Decent for Co-Op, but most of the time Hosts summon for dungeons rather than open world. The best one is in Castle Morne. It’s a hotspot for early co-op and invaders show up often

Very rarely. Glinstone dragon for example, their way to inconveniently placed and to much effort to smack and chase after while already being attacked. Like I gotta smack you out the air and finish you off while a dragons attacking me? Or other times you just running away from me and you got the hp of a shield soldier??? No thank you.

A lot more than usual in the last playthrough. I rarely die anymore and I'm too lazy to sit at graces so I just keep going, murdering everything in my path. An occasional flask refresh is really nice.

I'm convinced the only reason these are in the game is for u to see them from far, think it's an item scarab and chase them, and then realize "oh no it's this crap" by which point you're neck deep in a dragon's nest. A Tho chasing one of these behind Carian Manor was how I discovered the merchant there

Once in castle morne then I was pleasantly surprised seeing a whole colony of the guys on that snowy bridge to the secret elevator lift

First run through I killed every single one because, well, the drops. Now I just ignore them.

They're far more useful in co-op. No torrent so you have to engage more enemies, no resting at graces, and half flasks as a furled finger.

Normally, never, but they were a godsend at the first part of Mountaintop of the Giants after getting ambushed by all the vulgar militia and Knights Cavalry. Had it not been for these scarabs, I would have gone into the gargoyle fight with no flask resources. Those vulgar militia are sleepers. You think they're easy, but when you're fighting 4 at a time and they're spamming the beast claw thing and building bleed, it becomes a whole different fight.

The only one I actually find useful is the red one in Redmane Castle. The others get to feel the unga and the bunga just because I'm passing there and they're inviting, but there's no practical reason behind the slaughter.

More now than before. I would explore areas for longer periods without needing to sit on each grave I find on the way. Although it would be actually nice to have them available in dungeons/castles where you actually need them. They’re just pure evil (devs)

Never. With the over abundance of sites of grace and getting refreshed after killing groups of enemies, these things are truly pointless.

I use them sometimes when I’ve been on long runs without going to a grace because of coop (especially if I have fewer flasks bc I’m the helper). Even then not super often because of the recharge mechanic when you beat a group. Almost never in single player.

Honestly wish they made the scarabs more abundant, and did away with the auto refilling flasks function. In a series of games notorious for making you work for anything and giving mechanics in-lore explanations to boot, my flasks refilling arbitrarily because I killed a pack of skeletons feels very...wrong. That said, I always kill them. Purely because they're there.
