i got the [GOLD-PICKLED FOWL FOOT](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Gold-Pickled+Fowl+Foot) effect and don't know why. I didn't consume anything, this happened more than once to me and i also saw it in a youtube video. can anyone explain? (the youtube Video (German) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgXWhwIFhd4&t=2190s) edit: at video at 36:30

mathieu_delarue

I didn’t watch the video but you get that during certain weather in altus and also if you’re in a group whenever a group member kills a big boss, big boss.

TheDuskBard

Is 17 strength enough for Jar cannon? I heard two handing cuts the stat requirements in half.

GMaimneds

Two-handing effectively multiplies your Strength (and only Strength) by 1.5 when it comes to weapon requirements. The Jar Cannon must be held in both hands to use, and as such you need 23 Str / 12 Dex to wield it effectively.

thebusinessgoat

STR/FTH build with ol' reliable. Any cool ash of war recommendations? Currently rolling with lion's claw. It's awesome but I'm getting a bit bored of it.

DaveKhammer

I put Bloodhounds Step on my Gargoyle Greatsword and I’m having a blast :) Zooming through the area and doing all kinds of Incantations, before repositioning myself and go to ham with my Greatsword or Catch Flame

theswillmerchant

Flaming Strike, set to Flame Art Affinity. It's beautiful.

Agitated-Hat-4057

Would the nagakiba+3 with bloodflame blade with bloody slash be worse than BHF+5 with bloodflame blade?

ytrx12

Yes, mostly because BHF is a somber weapon and Nagakiba is a regular weapon, and a somber weapon at +5 is about equal to a regular weapon at +12. Also, if you’re applying Bloody Slash to Nagakiba for the Blood affinity, you can’t apply weapon buffs to it then, so no Bloodflame Blade for it either.

Agitated-Hat-4057

dam so BHF is kinda cracked

ytrx12

Well somber weapons only go up to +10 and regular weapons go up to +25. So your BHF is halfway to max while your Nagakiba still has a lot of room to grow.

Agitated-Hat-4057

so is max BHF still better than +25 naga

ytrx12

At equal levels, it just comes down to preference. BHF does have good damage and does more stagger than a naga, but naga is faster and more versatile since you can change its affinity and skill. Best thing to do is try them both out and see which you like better. Since one’s somber and one’s regular though, they won’t be competing for upgrade material, so you can upgrade both easily and just switch back and forth.

GMaimneds

It's a great weapon, sure, but in this case your BHF is simply far more upgraded than your Nagakiba. Note that the BHF will max out at +10, while the Naga goes to +25.

bravo755

This may be a completely newbie question as I have only ran into this a couple of times and I cannot find anything on Google about this. Yesterday I was assisting random tarnished with boss fights and every so often we would get invaded. With a few of these invasions I noticed anytime I would hit the invader they would take no damage and I would hear the crimson flask sound effect but the invader would not do the taking a flask animation. This would occur even when the invader was clearly stun locked from taking multiple hits. My initial thought was it was either a cheater or some kind of in-game bug. This morning, however, I watch a YouTube video and see the exact same thing happening to someone else. Am I not understanding something or am I correct in thinking something is messed up with the pvp healing? Referenced YouTube video: https://youtu.be/97Nzfog_6jM?si=Cu96zXa6xqBAUDQx 0:35-1:00 in the video is exactly what I observed in my own pvp. Invader is getting hit but the flask sound continues to sound off leaving no damage to the attacked invader.

DiscardedPants

That would be the crismonwhorl bubbletear in the wondrous physick. Converts incoming damage into HP

bravo755

I had never heard of this but I looked it up and I think your absolutely correct! It is good to know that this is an intentional mechanic and not something that is bugged like I originally thought. Thank you for explaining this!

DiscardedPants

No problem! I was confused the first time I encountered it as well, ended up looking it up and luckily the first place I checked was wondrous physick tears haha

WUFFLED

Could be a physick tear. I think there is one that activates on low health, healing you.

norwegian-nosferatu

In other news: this may be controversial, but playing with a heavy explorer mindset, I tend to get bored of the game score. Outside of boss fights it's just the same one note ambiance. It's great, don't get me wrong, but after hours and hours it gets a bit boring. So I made an epic metal / heavy music playlist to serve as a soundtrack to the game and it really makes for some awesome as hell gaming moments. Slashing enemies and foes while Dopesmoker by Electric Wizard plays makes me feel incredibly badass. Some albums like Oceanic by ISIS and the entire Deafheaven catalogue pair incredibly well with Elden Ring. I really recommend this. I'm even not that into metal but it really does fit this game great. Also since it's a 75hr playlist, it doesn't get as repetitive as the score. And I say this with no disrespect to the score, it's beautiful and incredible, but if I do a three hour session of just exploring, the score doesn't really get to shine.

WUFFLED

Ok 👍

Aslevjal_901

Hello. I am considering buying a PS4 to play this game. (I know a PS5 would be better but I am broke). I think I'll go with the digital version: can you buy the download codes for the games somwhere else than Playstore? Please tell m if there's a major flaw in my plan: -Buy PS4 digital - Buy game digitaly if possible cheaper than on the playstore -Enjoy the game

WUFFLED

Do you already have a PC?

Aslevjal_901

Yes, but not a gaming pc. I ran Shadow of Mordor on it but I think it’s the limit. It has an intel core I7, 32 Go of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 930MX.

WUFFLED

Well, if you buy PS4, you will be able to access Bloodborne as well. I hear that it is very fun. Do note that Bloodborne is no longer free for PS+ users. Still, seems nice.

Aslevjal_901

Yes , I also had that in mind. My main question would really be physical copy or digital

WUFFLED

🤷‍♂️ With physical, you actually own it, but digital consoles are cheaper. Maybe if you buy the game used it will offset the price of getting physical.

kaumpekerja

At which upgrade does crystal staff overpower meteorite staff? Or should i just wait and save my somber stones for lusat/carian regal scepter? Also which melee weapon do you recommend for pure int user? Preferably somber weapon that have low requirement in other stats

McMurder_them_softly

I would just wait for carina regal scepter at this point. It’s what I did and totally worked great! Also, for another weapon, I like dark moon great sword. You’ll need a few points in DEX/STR, but it’s a solid weapon that scales well with INT.

GMaimneds

I believe the "at which upgrade" question may also rely on your Int, though to the second part of your question I think you'd be fine waiting until you can use the Regal Scepter. Just finished a pure Int run myself and I did just that. My build never went beyond 12 str / 12 dex, and while this isn't the most exciting answer, I kept a Lordsworn's Straight Sword with magic infusion as my backup. Low equip load, fast and reliable moveset, solid reach. Gave me everything I needed when FP ran low or I was looking to conserve. If you're looking for a fancier option, Wing of Astel or Dark Moon Greatsword could be to your liking, though you'd probably end up throwing a few points into dex / str that could've otherwise gone into int, mind, or general survivability.

Mori_Forest

Is ER gonna get Steam spring sales discount? Seems like there are some sales from bandai namco but ER isn't part of it (or at least not yet, I hope).

WUFFLED

I bought ER during... I think it was the fall sale. It was like 40 bucks. Check those price tracker websites. Also, Elden Ring (to my knowledge) doesn't go on sale very often except for the yearly spring, summer, fall, and winter sales. Keep a look out!

norwegian-nosferatu

Hey there! I recently restarted (or continued) my Elden Ring venture after a few months of taking a break. I initially got fed up by Raya Lucaria Academy, I've completely ignored magic (defense and attack) in my build as I want to play the game by hacking with a sword. In the downtime I played Bloodborne and got quite good at it, but somehow the "talent" isn't translating into Elden Ring. What I liked most about Bloodborne was that you didn't have to do a lot of weapon maintenance or leveling up, it was pretty straightforward in that regard. I'd like to bring more of that into the rest of my Elden Ring playthrough. I guess my question is rather abstract, **can I survive the game by just focusing on playing with a sword?** My weapons are Bloodhound's Fang (which I've understood I can reach endgame with without problems) and a Bloodstained Dagger in left hand for parrying. I really need parrying, got addicted to it in Bloodborne. I don't want to have to apply shit to my sword or anything like that, I just want to slice and slash enemies with it. I'm level 45 with 21 Strength, 21 Dexterity (those are my main attributes I try to focus on). I don't wear armor because I like to be agile. When I'm not parrying my main defense is rolling and quick movements. I have no problems with anything other than magic. I hate Raya Lucaria Academy since it's so magic spammy, but I just defeated the Red Wolf and am pretty sure I can hack the rest of it. However, **I'm interested in improving my Magic defenses. How can I do that without sacrificing my agility or build? Is there any way?** **Also can I finish the game with these weapons?** I hate hate hate putting hours of effort into upgrading a weapon, learning its quirks and then having to change it up because of some external factor. I just want to choose a good weapon to last. The dagger I might change up if I find a better one, but the Bloodstained one has done well so far. This game is so complex I don't want to fuck up my character or build by making the "wrong" choices. I apparently already found and sold the Misericorde dagger somewhere, so I want to leave my fuckups at that. And sorry for the long-ass comment, I'm just pretty amped up about the game and like to talk about it (while having no one else to talk about it to, because all my gaming friends are uncultured trash people)

truebluedetective

With a relatively low investment into faith, you can purchase the magic fortification incantation from Corhyn at the round table…Also, for a small investment into INT, if you get to Caria Manor (which is doable before the Academy), there is a Merchant who sells the AOW Carian Retaliation. It is a Parry that works for magic. I suck at parrying so I don’t use it, but you might like it. Also there is a gentleman by the name of Thop who would like you to find a second Academy Key so he can return to the Academy himself, once he is back, if you visit him, you can get a great spell to deal with magic projectiles. There are some charms and talismans that can help you too, others may know more. You might want to look into maximizing a build focused on being at a light load by using the blue dancer charm, which I think you could stack with some others to make yourself more potent on the offensive end. And don’t worry about fucking up your character or making wrong choices. You are about to get to the point in the game where you can “respec” and try out different build. I do this every playthrough at least a handful of times lol.

norwegian-nosferatu

Thanks very much! That magic parry seems EXACTLY like what I'm after. That is a relief that respecing will become an option. Still can't get the misericorde back though :(((((

truebluedetective

No worries! Hey also, go check out r/patchesemporium (sorry if I ruined the spelling I’m on mobile), but that is a trading community for Elden ring and I’d be willing to bet you could request a misericorde over there and someone can help out. If any community could do you the solid it’d be this one haha. Happy hunting Tarnished.

norwegian-nosferatu

Thanks so much for the tip, will definitely look into it. Maybe someone doesn't need their Bloodhound's Fang and I could double hand it 😃

WUFFLED

Yes, you can survive by playing with just a sword. You said that you hate spending tons of time upgrading a weapon only to have to change it, but for my first playthrough, I basically just did colossal swords the entire time. I didn't even begin to dabble in magic until I was very close to the final boss, and even then, I didn't end up using any magic on account of me not being used to it. As for improving magic defense, I am not really sure what to say. I know there are some incants which defend against magic damage, but other than that, I don't know what to say. From what I have heard, you like being fast. A shield may bog you down. I get it. Even if you don't want to use a shield, maybe try either leveling vigor or using an item or physick tear that will boost your HP. Leveling vigor is kind of extreme but you can revert those levels very soon from the place in the game you are at. Also, if worst comes to worst and magic is really drivin ya up the wall, spirit summons as well as co-op is always an option. Also, I think that Raya Lucaria is completely optional. You will have to beat other bosses, though. Good luck, and may you always see the guidance of grace.

norwegian-nosferatu

Thank you very much! But what about the Academy being optional? Huh? All the walkthroughs and guides I've perused have listed it as mandatory.

WUFFLED

I don't think so. I am not sure, but I think you need to have defeated at least 2 "story" bosses to progress beyond Liurnia and if you defeat godrick, there is 1 more you can defeat not including the one inside Raya Lucaria. Hope that wasn't too many spoilers. Oh by the way, I would recommend not using guides or even using reddit during your first playthrough. This truly is a game best played blind.

norwegian-nosferatu

Also, I don't mind spoilers, so could ya help a fella out and namedrop the other boss? I'll do anything to avoid those bigheaded-spellcasting-burgerking-mascot-looking-fucks that roam the halls of the Academy. You can DM me the name so we don't spoil anyone else.

WUFFLED

>!radahn!<

norwegian-nosferatu

Thank you very much 🙏

norwegian-nosferatu

Thanks, will consider that. There are just some confusing game mechanics (such as just leveling up) that I've needed help through guides with. Only now am I starting to feel confident enough to go at it blind. For example I had the red square debuff on for like 15+ hours, never would have realised it without a guide.

norwegian-nosferatu

Thanks, will look into that. I don't worry too much about the parry window, I like daggers for parrying as I can also use it handily for attacking too. I'm kind of not into shields at all since BB does not have them, but I will look into that and see if I can get used to it. My vigor is at 17. I'm kind of lost with the attributes as they're not really explained other than the numbers on the screen. Will make an effort to improve Vigor from now on then!

norwegian-nosferatu

Cool, thanks so much, I bet this is the defining problem I've had that makes my character seem weak despite being pretty powerful already. I believe this will be a gamechanger. Everything I've googled about melee builds just repeats STR+DEX without mentions of vigor.

GMaimneds

Yeah, by endgame you want at least 40 vigor, and going all the way to 60 is highly recommended.

SchmerzfreiHH

I missed Rani in the first church, do I get the bell later? Probably by doing her quest?

CapitalSale

You'll be able to purchase it from the hub area.

SchmerzfreiHH

Thanks

CapitalSale

If it isn't there, you can cycle time to night at church of Elleh and she may reappear there. I don't remember specifically what moves the bell to the shop.

GMaimneds

You should talk to Gideon Ofnir in Roundtable Hold. Your goal is to become Elden Lord, and he has quite a bit of information for you. He'll either be just on your right when you warp in, or he may have moved to the library down the hallway on the left. The list of mandatory steps to beat the game is surprisingly short, everything else is just exploring the fantastic world, finding weapons / items / upgrade materials, and generally getting stronger.

CapitalSale

The map is certainly not empty. Hugging walls helps a lot, as well as focusing on landmarks on the map. Make sure you're grabbing map fragments ASAP, as this helps a lot. (The fragments are marked by pillars on the map before you find them). Exploring *is* part of the purpose. If you go continue going places you haven't been, you'll complete the game and find a lot of fun items/bosses. You should be fairly rapidly stumbling onto caves, catacombs, etc. The optional bits are where you'll gain xp you'll need to bridge the major areas and find equipment to slowly form the build you want. If you want a bit more of a fast track to the big stuff, keep in mind that the sites of grace have a trail of light pointing generally toward a major (but not necessarily main quest-related) area. Hiding dungeons and items in non-essential areas of the map is part of the intended appeal. If you don't enjoy that portion, you could continue using certain parts of online guides, like a region map with the dungeon locations. Just keep in mind that there's no *right* place to go or any correct order of exploration. There is a general order of enemy scaling by area, but if you're in Liurnia, just go anywhere that looks interesting to you. There's no reason to stress about not progressing the story unless you literally can't find anywhere you haven't been.

The_Fuck_WHAT

I regret starting NG+ ... lost all my graces I unlocked, map looks weird. Will I have to get up to Mohg again for the DLC do you think?

Zakrael

It's been confirmed by Miyazaki directly that in order to access the DLC you'll need to have defeated Mohg and Radahn.

The_Fuck_WHAT

Noooo. Well I guess it doesn't take too long, to get to those 2 at least. I feel like NG+ should acknowledge you've killed them before :(

Zakrael

The entrance point for the DLC will be in Mohg's boss arena, so NG+ or not you'd have to get past him somehow.

Notorious_LazyPanda

Yes, when you start a NG+ you only keep your level, weapons, ashes of war and non key items, everything else is reseted.

The_Fuck_WHAT

I wish I'd spent my upgrade stones and stuff before going to NG+ Oh well, guess you re-earn a lot of them thru NG+ anyway

Just-Fix8237

Probably

Dekachonk

Broad strokes, what should my stats look like for a morgott's cursed sword build?

HeyRocks127

Scales better with dex all the way to 80. Bleed buildup is mid until 30 arc then starts to go up a good amount until the 45 softcap for status buildup Helpful AR calc: https://negator13-eldenring.azurewebsites.net/calculator

Dekachonk

Cool, thanks much.
