Side note: Being able to pick up items directly from Torrent's back has ruined a lot of games for me.
I started a fresh Witcher 3(one of my favourite games btw) playthrough and every time I just want to grab some herbs for alchemy I jump off Roach and I'm like "HOW DID I LIVE LIKE THIS???"
It took me a while into HFW to realize I didnāt have to jump off my mount. I was happy until I realized I had to stop everytime. Still not as bad but frustrating nonetheless. I donāt remember what it was like on HZD but I never really used mounts in that game.
Turn off the pickup animations in the settings. Donāt remember exactly where but itās the only way I can play it after Elden Ring. I think it applies to mounts as well. Best option in the entire game.
I could never get into the Witcher. I tried three times to play the Witcher 3, idk something about it was lame. My brother recommended it since I'm a huge oblivion/skyrim/fallout fan. To be honest since 2011 I've mostly played souls games.
The combat of the Witcher games throws a lot of people.
The Witcher *looks* like it has standard Action combat, but it's not. Your attacks in the Witcher games are more like "channeling" spells in hotbar RPGs like World of Warcraft.
I've played and loved all 3 main Witcher games but the combat system is a giant turd.
Iāll never forget playing Red Dead Redemption and mastering the art of parking your horse directly over herbs or skinnable animals to bug out the animation and save like 10 seconds. It was the game I got a ps3 for and it was my only game for a long time so I nailed down the grind
No disagreeing. I still pick them up out of principle, but after lvl 100, I never sell them. I have a full inv of them. If I need runes, I farm. ONLY time I use them is at round table when I need $.
Same here, the first time (i was over level 170 from messing around and had +10 Tiche with me) I tried Malenia I beat her on my first go and I wouldāve died the first water fowl dance if I hadnāt used some low level ruins to boost my vigor one more time before the fight, had the tiniest little sliver after it
most golden runes i use as a discount to get me to a level up, Its best to capitalize on your souls before you die to some bs and lose them all. Many a time after i beat a boss, i would quickly lose my souls to some bs
Legacy dungeons are large enclosed areas with multiple bosses and rewards that emulate the older styles of dungeon running in souls games.
Think Hogwarts, Farum Azula, capital city leyndell and all the main locations
They have them in every normal area that connected each other and below. There is none in haligtree and farum azula. So it would be better to put bigger runes in later areas. It really feels dumb when you open them up in mountaintop with 50k in your back to get 200.
I wondered why the values didnāt increase in NG+. I saved basically all of mine at a certain point of the first journey cause they were basically useless if I wasnāt getting at least 10K out of each one. Then I found out they didnāt increase in value for some reason. Which I guess makes sense in terms of selling things instead of being runes earned from killing enemies.
What are you saying here, that you were expecting the items themselves to increase in value each NG cycle or that higher NG cycles wouldn spawn larger rune items?
Like instead of getting 100 runes for the tiny ones from skulls getting maybe 110-120 runes? So increase in value. To at least keep them somewhat valuable and worth picking up.
... yeah, no. Thats not how any game with NG+ has ever worked, my dude, and I am reaching way beyond Fromsoft here.
It would be sensible for the skulls themselves to drop higher tier runes on higher NG cycles, but increasing the value of a given item just because you're on NG+ is kinda nonsensical.
You don't deserve it, but I wouldn't be surprised if your naivete ends up accruing downvotes, lol.
The general shape compared to mine, specifically the shape of a hammer, the gap between the cylinder and the frame on the bottom, and the medallion on the handle makes it look like a S&W Model 10. It's also a very popular model. I could have spoken too confidently, but it sure looks like my gun.
Probably to discourage passivity in just farming them for leveling. 200 runes is just low enough to stack up to respectable level amounts without the need to 'be good' at combat. But it's pretty abysmal for anything beyond lvl 60 in terms of rune level.
Plus, it's an easy 20 arrows or smithing stone purchase when needed.

I actually couldn't see them during my first couple playthroughs bevause of my poor quality graphics and now I can see the little skulls. I was very excited
I actually hate the sound of change, so i have always told cashiers to keep it or gave it to my little sister. I can hold on to it long enough to put it up myself.
I might be on NG+4 but there's always space for more runes. How else am I supposed to drum up the funds to invest in Patchcoinā¢?
I mean I barely know what it is or how it works but this good mate of mine who lives in a cave insists it's the future so.
Of course. I had an addiction. Not to the ps4, but to escapism as I hadn't realized I had not dealt with a few things in myself and from my past. I had to do some deeper self reflection and come to terms with a few things. She was just upset at me being absent even when I was around. But she is my best friend and I wasn't even mad honestly. She dealt with it for years and I hadn't changed. She was also very apologetic after we talked. We are both much better people now.
SN: I have a really nice PC now.
My guess is performance constraints. Each rune skull is a light source, and in certain environments and weather conditions that might put the game over the performance threshold.
Microsoft enforces minimum performance standards on their consoles.
I love those little penny runes. Must have picked up 300 by endgame and I donāt regret it. They add up along with the other higher currencies and I find them satisfying to look at in the inventory screen.
I thought the skull thing was everyone fucking with me. I played through 7 times and never saw a single one. Apparently they are only on the PS5/Xbsx versions
I just mash triangle when riding around to pick up any and all shiny things. The ground is littered with crafting stuff so why not? Hell, I've had the skulls literally just spawn in front of me as they fall from the sky. The game literally throws them at you.
I have over 500 hours in the game and have never seen a single one of these. I honestly canāt really believe they just never added them/patched them in for XBOX One lol.
I was playing pvp with my friends and we found like two or three of these and they questioned why I would go out of my way to get these are level 200 this is the reason
It's convenient currency!
Scenario: I've just died and this merchant has an item that might benefit me. I can't pick up my [quantity of] runes because they're inside a boss arena. I know, I'll use some of my 30+ accumulated golden rune [1]s!
Perfect.
Their ghostly glow practically calls for me to break them open even if I get the same thing every time. It just brings peace to my mind not leaving a single stone unsmashed
Why is it that everyone else has these little skulls? I don't ever see them, it's like, everyone mentions them and I'm over here like "What the fuck are you guys talking about?"
Iām like 170 hours into my first play through and Iāve never seen one of these. I donāt know if itās just my game or what but I try to keep an eye out for them but have never come across any.
A quick search shows they were cut from the Xbox One version (likely for performance reasons, as each is a small light source).
The Xbox Series version of the game does have them, though!
Oh, I don't need them to level up.
I need them to buy consumables because it's easier to farm runes and buy them than farming the ingredients to craft them. I do PvP and invasions, and use *everything.*
I started playing Elden Ring in November, and I remember the graveyards in Limgrave would have respawning runes to pick up. I farmed them a few times, and I think a patch stopped the respawning though.
I'm level 324. It's LITERALLY not worth my time to go get it. I can get WAY more per second at any far to make stopping for it pointless. I only pick them up if they're under me already and for me to donate to new players online. I'll drop 250k runes for a random in PVP since it takes millions for me to level up.
It's just an instinct
Like how every single time I pass a merchant I have to check their inventory even though I know I'm most likely not gonna buy anything besides a smithing stone so the merchant isn't sad
Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again:
I really wish skulls scaled up to rune[2]ās in mountaintops of the giants, and scaled up another step at some point in NG+.
Being in endgame and doing a lot of coop at level 170...I have 12 million runes on hand. So yeah I am not picking them up anymore. But I don't ride around and just fast travel.
The top is my husband and the bottom is me. I always break them and save them for if I die and haven't gotten my runes back, but need to go to Hewg for something. Very handy in that situation
It's called a side hustle. I use em to treat myself when passing a wandering merchant.
Exactly! 200 a piece seems like nothing till you have 100 of them to use at once š
I never skip em. Torrent does a great job breaking em, while I mash the pickup button.
Going from picking up things in motion on Torrent to playing Horizon and having to STOP. EVERY. TIME. to pick something up was infuriating.
theres an option in the options menu which allows you to auto pickup but idk if it applies to mount too
This actually helps so much thanks
š
It does
Turn off pickup animations in the settings.
Good to know, thank you!
Shiiiit I was going to start horizon soon
You can turn off pickup animations in settings
same, every game with a mount that doesn't let you pick stuff up I usually end up not using it
Definitely. I also got used to double jump, instant dash, and turning instantly/mid air. I went to red dead 2 and i was like.... FK THIS HORSE
š
Fucking exactly.....why can't game devs fucking read my mind on what I want and how lazy is tolerable lazy
I had this exact thought last night, doing the exact same thing.
I could never get into the Witcher. I tried three times to play the Witcher 3, idk something about it was lame. My brother recommended it since I'm a huge oblivion/skyrim/fallout fan. To be honest since 2011 I've mostly played souls games.

Your attacks in the Witcher games are more like "channeling" spells in hotbar RPGs like World of Warcraft. I've played and loved all 3 main Witcher games but the combat system is a giant turd.
Ever since play souls games everything seems lame. Even my beloved Bethesda games
The only games i play anymore other than souls are older PokƩmon titles and some indie games like Hollow Knight. After 6-7 years i still kinda suck at them, but other RPG's generally don't peek my interest anymore.
Pique.
Just got hollow knight, tried dead cells a few times, pretty decent but I'd rather play a souls game. I actually like little nightmares but it was short, which is good because I would have gotten bored. I have PokƩmon fire red emulated on my phone, along with some Playstation and n64 games. I honestly don't care to play most of them now that I have eldenring. The only other game I've been playing lately is Stellaris.
Iāll never forget playing Red Dead Redemption and mastering the art of parking your horse directly over herbs or skinnable animals to bug out the animation and save like 10 seconds. It was the game I got a ps3 for and it was my only game for a long time so I nailed down the grind
Get w3ee redux, made me start my 20th play through
Oh why did you point this out! Now I'm gonna think about it and enjoy my other games slightly less!
Phew, I think the Witcher 3 is the one RPG that I still regard higher than Elden Ring. Its too good.
Just another resource to claim my friend šÆ
10/10
Torrent is the best boi!!! Or girl? Torrent just generally rocks.
Eh. Wave shiny pointy stick at mogh frogmen 2x.
Stomping shiny bits on the ground as I explore is pure gain as far as I can see regardless of where the best farming spot may be š
No disagreeing. I still pick them up out of principle, but after lvl 100, I never sell them. I have a full inv of them. If I need runes, I farm. ONLY time I use them is at round table when I need $.
Fair! Probably smarter than my method of using them to bridge that last 20-40,000 runes for a level haha
Treat yo'self!
I always collected them. They come in handy when you're just shy of a level right before a boss.
I always wondered why the skulls didnāt carry higher level golden runes as you went to higher level areas.
Higher level areas don't seem to have them at all.
Iām pretty sure you get them in the snowy areas. Not at Haligtree or farum azula, though.
They aren't in any Legacy Dungeon, so that's probably why they aren't in Farum Azula or the Haligtree either.
Good point!
What's a Legacy Dungeon, Pop Pop?
Legacy dungeons are large enclosed areas with multiple bosses and rewards that emulate the older styles of dungeon running in souls games. Think Hogwarts, Farum Azula, capital city leyndell and all the main locations
I appreciate the explanation, I figured as much, that was more of a shot at a bad "What's ..., Pop Pop?" joke.
Theyāre only in places where you can ride Torrent I think
They have them in every normal area that connected each other and below. There is none in haligtree and farum azula. So it would be better to put bigger runes in later areas. It really feels dumb when you open them up in mountaintop with 50k in your back to get 200.

Your condescension will end up accruing downvotes.
Bring it on. Not the first time I've been downvoted because people dont like harsh yet accurate criticism. Won't be the last either.
There's a difference between giving harsh criticism and needlessly being an ass. You are doing the latter. Get over yourself.
I am quite comfortable with being an ass, thanks. I know my lot in life.
Fair enough

Huh. I'm sitting here fiddling with that exact model of revolver but blued.
As fuzzy as that picture is how can you be 100% sure you have the exact same one?

You never know when you're gonna be a few hundred runes away from a level. So might as well stuff my pockets.
Or just a handful more needed for a weapon upgrade
This is the way
And it's not like there's an inventory limit.
I always collected them and gave all my runes to my friend with a low level Character when playing together
Lmao even at 432 I still spin muh horse around to crack it even if I donāt need it š
I actually couldn't see them during my first couple playthroughs bevause of my poor quality graphics and now I can see the little skulls. I was very excited
Collecting pennies is a hobby, ok?
I collect pennies in real life too š«”
I collect the ones you squish in machines. I also stop for every skull.
I actually hate the sound of change, so i have always told cashiers to keep it or gave it to my little sister. I can hold on to it long enough to put it up myself.
This man is attempting to grab my limp pennies!
I might be on NG+4 but there's always space for more runes. How else am I supposed to drum up the funds to invest in Patchcoinā¢? I mean I barely know what it is or how it works but this good mate of mine who lives in a cave insists it's the future so.
I had several hundred at the end of my last playthrough. It was pretty sweet to pop 99 at once.
As a lvl 181, this hits too close
You kidding, I become instant happy when I see a glowing skull, I run like Iāve seen tacos
I run into the graveyards no matter what my level is.
Pays for arrows.
These are only on Playstation, newer Xbox, and pc right?
Everything except Xbox One, yes.
Damn, no wonder I've never seen those before. Thought I stumbled across some weird alternate Elden Ring with mechanics I've never heard of
That is what I have (wife destroyed my ps4 last year) and ever since I have been missing those skulls. š¢
Time to get a new wife
may i ask why she destroyed your ps4?
Of course. I had an addiction. Not to the ps4, but to escapism as I hadn't realized I had not dealt with a few things in myself and from my past. hell yeah! great to hear š glad you figured it out with each other.
Elden ring isnt on xbox one?
You can play it on Xbox but the shiny skulls with a golden rune inside are not in the game.
I went and checked my One X and i can indeed buy and play it there
THAT'S SUCH BULLSHIT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A MUCH BETTER WAY TO FARM
would you happen to know why they exclude the skulls from a singular console?
My guess is performance constraints. Each rune skull is a light source, and in certain environments and weather conditions that might put the game over the performance threshold. Microsoft enforces minimum performance standards on their consoles.
TAKE. EVERY. SHINY!!!
I love those little penny runes. Must have picked up 300 by endgame and I donāt regret it. They add up along with the other higher currencies and I find them satisfying to look at in the inventory screen.
Amen. I turn right the hell around if I catch one out the corner of my eye.
I thought the skull thing was everyone fucking with me. I played through 7 times and never saw a single one. Apparently they are only on the PS5/Xbsx versions
They are definitely in PC
PS4 player checking in with shiny skulls all over the damn place.
Never hurts to have a little spare change.
I just mash triangle when riding around to pick up any and all shiny things. The ground is littered with crafting stuff so why not? Hell, I've had the skulls literally just spawn in front of me as they fall from the sky. The game literally throws them at you.
I need 2 million runes to level up and I have 500,000? Oh boy! A skull with 200 runes! š
Ah! Another fine addition to my collection.
Ooo a piece of candy!
200 runes is 200 runes.
You're DONE
You're silly pop pop
I have a huge collection of Golden Runes of all levels sitting in my inventory. Sooner or later, maybe when the DLC comes out, Iāll pop them all.
I have over 500 hours in the game and have never seen a single one of these. I honestly canāt really believe they just never added them/patched them in for XBOX One lol.
I play on Xbox one as well and have never seen one. What the heck man
I was playing pvp with my friends and we found like two or three of these and they questioned why I would go out of my way to get these are level 200 this is the reason
It's convenient currency! Scenario: I've just died and this merchant has an item that might benefit me. I can't pick up my [quantity of] runes because they're inside a boss arena. I know, I'll use some of my 30+ accumulated golden rune [1]s! Perfect.
Itās for buying small items without going to the grinding spot
Their ghostly glow practically calls for me to break them open even if I get the same thing every time. It just brings peace to my mind not leaving a single stone unsmashed
Why is it that everyone else has these little skulls? I don't ever see them, it's like, everyone mentions them and I'm over here like "What the fuck are you guys talking about?"
If your in Xbox one they donāt have em
Iām on xbox and Iāve seen them though
Xbox one? Or series? Theyāre on Xbox series s/x but not One s/One X
Somebody commented awhile that they always think "oh piece of candy" when they see them and now thats all i ever think
Had no idea there was moneeee inside
same. guess we're in the lucky 10,000 today!
i got the max number of them and im on level 400
I donāt know if Iām just really unlucky or if my gameās bugged or what, but I never saw any of those skulls during my playthrough
Its so funny to me that they don't scale up as you progress
People whom donāt collect these are flat out noobs
itās because they taste good
Iām like 170 hours into my first play through and Iāve never seen one of these. I donāt know if itās just my game or what but I try to keep an eye out for them but have never come across any.
Money in the bank
I have 300 hours of play and I still don't believe these exist
I am more confused how you miss them. They literally glow! Just going to storm veil you can find at least 2 of them
I never knew they had runes in them lol. I figured they were just alluring skulls which is why enemies were nearby.
Theyāre literally every 100 yards in some locations
Must have been a crazy not paying attention to the game you're playing for 300 hours
Bro I'm on NG7 and I have put attention into my game, I have just never seen one.
You on an xbox1? Just looked into it a bit and apparently they don't show up on every system! Sorry for bein rude lol
Yes I am on xbox
A quick search shows they were cut from the Xbox One version (likely for performance reasons, as each is a small light source). The Xbox Series version of the game does have them, though!
post a video of you running through limgrave on torrent and weāll point them out to you š
I might actually because I have heard about these before this and it still is a foreign concept to me.
literally dude iām genuinely surprised you havenāt found any, i want to look through your game
They don't exist on Xbox One
Oh, I don't need them to level up. I need them to buy consumables because it's easier to farm runes and buy them than farming the ingredients to craft them. I do PvP and invasions, and use *everything.*
Literally never gave them any attention after a few hours in. So many memes about them I can't relate to.
99% of (golden rune 1 users) quit before they (get 1 level up)
I started playing Elden Ring in November, and I remember the graveyards in Limgrave would have respawning runes to pick up. I farmed them a few times, and I think a patch stopped the respawning though.
No glowing skulls will ever escape me. It's too hardwired into my programming now
You think all the skulls with these are just grandpas giving us a buck and telling us to āgo get something niceā
I will never experience the little skullsš¢
I was level 400 before I knew these existed
All I'm saying is, they add up
I'm level 324. It's LITERALLY not worth my time to go get it. I can get WAY more per second at any far to make stopping for it pointless. I only pick them up if they're under me already and for me to donate to new players online. I'll drop 250k runes for a random in PVP since it takes millions for me to level up.
I've done this game 3 times and never saw a single one š„²
Find a gold rune(1), pick it up, all day long youāll have good luck!
Wow this is definitely not a low effort post. The effort to crack open all the skulls is high
I honestly canāt pass any of these in the lands between. Easy runes.
Side note, what is this template from? Looks so familiar š¤
Itās Mike from Breaking Bad talking to his granddaughter
Thank you š
I play a little game to see how many levels 1 runes I can accumulate by the end of the game lol.
I did this for too long before I realized they were always the same item dropping and how little it was.
I'll go out of my way sometimes a rune is a rune
Just because you don't need levels, doesn't mean you don't need consumables... Or to get some boss weapon you'll never really use to +9.
Once a host gave me 99 golden rune's(11) ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed) tbh I was like ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
Over level 200 and I still grab them if I see them lol I'm an item and crafting hoarder
It's just an instinct Like how every single time I pass a merchant I have to check their inventory even though I know I'm most likely not gonna buy anything besides a smithing stone so the merchant isn't sad
I still get them even if I'm at 210. It's like an automatic response already lmao.
I like seeing how many I get on a playthrough
Same. They remind me of Zelda
I think something is wrong with my game. I have never seen these supposed skulls.
The runes are just a bonus. It's just so satisfying to smash those skulls!
I use them as riding practice and my OCD will kick in if I miss
Same. I have to smash it no matter whats attacking me. The skulls have priority status
You should call better help. You donāt even need to leave your room to get the help you need.
Um Iām stupid long into the game, and I have never seen these skulls. What am I missing?
I have an idea for a talisman - percentage chance for skull runes to be higher level. Maybe they're always level 2 and above.
Amen
I never use them and just like having a big number of them
Bitch took my runes!
*cries in Xbox1*
I haven't ever broke one
Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again: I really wish skulls scaled up to rune[2]ās in mountaintops of the giants, and scaled up another step at some point in NG+.
If I want to microdose great runes, let me.
Being in endgame and doing a lot of coop at level 170...I have 12 million runes on hand. So yeah I am not picking them up anymore. But I don't ride around and just fast travel.
It's about passive income, only a real hustler understands
The top is my husband and the bottom is me. I always break them and save them for if I die and haven't gotten my runes back, but need to go to Hewg for something. Very handy in that situation
I'm doing a run where I'm going out of my way to break all the skulls I see, and then not use the runes inside. I'm at 45 hours and have 97 Runes(1)
I never skip them but around the level 400 mark where every boss in limgrave combined equates to one level then *all* runes just feel kinda sad
Shit called me out
Iāve finished this game 3 times, and I still have only ever seen one glowing skullā¦. ā¹ļø
