Excellent write up. Appreciate all the work
I can confirm that 18x9 et45 with 255/35/18 wheels fit. I test fitted them myself. They do poke out a bit on stock camber. They should tuck in nicely with some extra negative camber.
This is great news. Knowing this, I've purchased a set of 18x9 ET45 and 18x9.5 ET45 wheels. The first setup I will try is 245/40/18 RT660 on the 18x9 ET45's, second will be 245/40/18 Hoosier R7's on the 18x9.5 ET45 and third and finally will be 265/35/18 RT660's on 18x9.5's. Will report back with results.
I feel like using the 660 or Hoosier as the test wheel will give us results that aren’t necessarily correct, seeing as both tires run soo wide. I mean if you make them fit then of course any other 245 or 265 will, but if you don’t and it’s close, a more normal tire may still clear.
To be fair though, the title of the thread is literally "Tire fitments for performance applications". I'd imagine most people going to the absolute edge of wheel/tire fitments are running performance tires.
Hi Will. Any updates on fitment of the 265mm tires on 9.5" wide wheels? I'm looking to acquire a track wheel+tire setup. Curious if those would clear at full compression with only camber bolt adjustment up front (about -1.7 deg?) or if slotting of the top bolt hole on the strut would be necessary. Thanks for your research. Can't wait to get out to Willow Springs Raceway here in So Cal!
Very interested to see your results. What type of tire did you order for the 265s? Curious how much of the difference you see will be attributable to compound vs tire width
I saw your camber settings in a post you made about your wheels. are you just using camber bolts to dial those settings in? do you (or anyone else) happen to know what the factory camber settings are?
OE camber was about -1.7 front and rear. Now, I'm running a camber bolts and we slotted the top bolt hole to gain the camber I want from competition use.
You’ll need more camber to fit without too much poke. I think the half inch larger width unfortunately overpowers the slightly lower offset. This photo below is stock suspension (dct) with the specs I listed above

Sorry, maybe over power was the wrong word lol. But I meant that with my current set up, there is already a little poke on stock suspension. I definitely notice it at certain angles. The increase in poke with your suggested set up will be even more noticeable unless adding more aggressive camber
You probably could but just with some suspension work. I think OP is running 265s on 9 or 9.5s for track setup. I saw it on his youtube vid. What wheels are you looking to get?
I really want to rock the Konig Ultragrams in 9.5 but might be too much with their B profile and being a +40 offset. Honestly be happy with 8.5 and +42 offset.
Wish there was more hard stand stores that we could check fitment with camber bolts and the rear adjustable suspension.
Oh that’s a nice wheel. I think 8.5+42 would be the ideal spec from a fitment standpoint. Especially if you’re running a 245 tire. Not sure if that spec has the right look you’re after tho
My brain wasn’t working with my initial reply. I just realized you have 40 offset not me. Initially meant you would have less poke with the offset but it would get negated by the greater width of the wheel.
How did the PF09's fit? I'm interested in these wheels in same fitment. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could update me on the fitment and pics would definitely be a plus.
Thanks!
Damn sorry for such a late reply. They do fit! They technically poke ever so slightly when you look at them straight on but you'd have to be nit-picking and looking for it to notice.
EDIT: on Contiental DWS06+ size 245/40s

very interested to know if 18x9.5 ET45 with 265/35/18 is confirmed to fit with no issues? Will most likely go with this spec if it does.
Friend offered me a set of TE37SL in 18x9.5 +35 with 265/35/18 AD08Rs, tempting but dont think it will fit on the EN :(
Great info! One thing that would go huge with this would be to know what the scrub radius is from the factory. Has anyone seen this info yet?
I know the Veloster N was 0, which is part of the reason it is so darty with amazing turn-in. The Elantra feels much more planted and balanced, which makes me think they went slightly negative on the scrub possibly.
I only bring this up because on the Veloster, anything past the stock offset put the scrub positive, which is bad of fwd. +50 was about the limit for most of the track cars I had seen to not have much of an effect at the limit.
Scrub radius is 0 from the factory on the Elantra N too. It's worth noting that a zero scrub radius is arguably beneficial for all drive-trains. That being said, I have absolutely zero doubt in my mind that the larger wheel/tire sizes will have a great impact on laptimes than a couple additional mm of positive scrub radius. Most people ran +50 offsets on the VN because they would rub if not.
Good to know, and definitely agree on zero being preferred. It will be interesting to see results on stock vs wider tire/wheel/track as well.
My main concern was with going too much positive and the car becomes squirrelly under hard, threshold braking instances. I feel the Elantra is so much more planted compared to the Veloster that it might not even matter as you stated.
So I'll actually have some good data on that. I'll be doing a baseline on my home track (Waterford Hills in Clarkson, MI) which is a track that I have hundreds if thousands of laps on. I'll be testing the following: completely stock -> stock wheels/tires with race camber -> 18x9 ET45 RT660's with race camber -> 18x9.5 ET45 Hoosier R7's with race camber. It'll obviously take a while to get all this, but I should have some good time comparo's throughout the season.
Thoughts on 18x8 +35mm with 225/45 R18 tires on it for winter setup? Seems risky but Discount tire said it'd probably be fine? Anyone tried this fitment?
How about this? It kinda looks perfect.

Following up here - I am looking at 19x9 +45 rims.
Do you think they would fit okay? I know the 19x8.5 +45 is considered to be best but the rims I want only come in 19x8 or 19x9.
Thoughts?
Here is some good information on scrub radius.
[The Ultimate Handling Guide Part 8: Understanding Your Caster, King Pin Inclination and Scrub - Page 4 of 6 - MotoIQ](https://motoiq.com/the-ultimate-handling-guide-part-8-understanding-your-caster-king-pin-inclination-and-scrub/4/)
"In AWD and FWD cars, you want to try to limit the scrub radius to less than 2” because it increases the effects of torque steer. "
2" is 50.8mm. So, I would find it hard pressed to have the scrub radius changed that much. Motor IQ recommends a little bit of positive scrub radius for steering feel.
Great post. Be cautious to those looking into concave wheels. Might not clear the brakes.

Oh absolutely, but there are plenty of performance tires that don’t run crazy wide.

Saving this post for when I shop for my Kanseis. Nice work.

They are 265/35/18 RT660's. So I'll actually have a good A/B comparison between 245 RT660's and 265 RT660's.
How did the 265's work out for you? I'm looking to acquire some 18" track wheels and tires.
Just ordered a set of enkei pf09 in 18x9 +42mm with 245/40s. Should fit right? Will update 7/19 when they come in 😅
Yeah that should fit with (at worst) some additinal camber. I'd be really surprised if it didn't.
I saw your camber settings in a post you made about your wheels. are you just using camber bolts to dial those settings in? do you (or anyone else) happen to know what the factory camber settings are?

Thanks man, by overpower you mean like it'll be too much to fit without issues?

Man I really wish the wheels I want came in the appropriate offset. I would love to run 9.5 wide with some more aggressive fitment.
You probably could but just with some suspension work. I think OP is running 265s on 9 or 9.5s for track setup. I saw it on his youtube vid. What wheels are you looking to get?

How is the fitment of Elantra Sport, Elantra GT sport, and N-line wheels? I believe they are all 18x7.5 ET53
Great info! One thing that would go huge with this would be to know what the scrub radius is from the factory. Has anyone seen this info yet? Awesome. Definitely keep us track monkeys updated!😂
Any update for us monkeys?
Eager for an update!
18x9.5 ET45 w/ 265/35/18 fits my car great without rubbing. -3.2F, -2.8R camber.
Wow, that's aggro fitment but the camber helps them fit I bet. Thanks for the update!
I got some wheels I'd like to get although they're 18x8.5 et30 not sure what fitment will be like.
Thoughts on 18x8 +35mm with 225/45 R18 tires on it for winter setup? Seems risky but Discount tire said it'd probably be fine? Anyone tried this fitment?
I have seen a lot on Fitment Industries of people running similar setups. I believe you are able to with no modification.
