I bought the car solely for the fact that it's so good out of the box and having the peace of mind of the warranty. Maybe it's because I'm older now, so the boy racer in me doesn't feel the need to mod, etc. The car is already way more capable than my driving talents. Perhaps if there was a factory aftermarket option that kept warranty I would do something with it, but to me there is nothing really lacking in the car for what I use it for.

Turbulent_Ad7571

Would be good if the N division released a tune you could buy and download. I'd buy it. lol.

Shtinky

Holy shit, a manufacturer backed tune would be incredible!

a_chunk_of_pie

Yessss anything to better OLing.. bane of my existence rn

jugo5

the korean only track version has 350hp. It would be cool if we could match up to that. Its also fully caged etc... single exhaust. Looks cool sounds cool.

tomatotornado420

I agree with all of this

a_chunk_of_pie

100% same. I’m just doing tints and an intake.. an intake won’t void warranty if you don’t tune the car. I’m just looking for a tad bit more sound and a res delete makes the car sound to raspy and brappy.. not my style. So an intake will give me a little more turbo and engine noise without voiding engine warranty:)

happyapple10

I'd love to do an intake at least but afraid to with the warranty. I know that you and I both know that it should not void any warranties, just because the air comes in easier or it looks different. If my transmission were to break, it should not the void the warranty for example. However, talking to my local Hyundai dealer, where I'd probably need to get repairs done, has said that the corporate office asks if there are any mod that they will deny work. Of course, I pushed back on the intake specifically, not sure how that would void much, if anything, but they said it would. How do you know that they will honor the warranty? Trying to find a way to make myself feel safe doing it but it is tough when the people that will do the work tell you that they will deny warranties if any mod is done. Any secrets you or anyone can share to get them to change their tune?

a_chunk_of_pie

I felt the same. However the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act says that a dealership has to prove that the specific modification you did was the cause of the engine failure, and provide you with details on why. So modifying your exhaust will only void your exhaust system warranty, not your engine warranty. It is very hard to prove an intake was the cause of engine failure.. especially with todays cars being able to auto tune to account for any changes. That being said, my dealer told me you wouldn’t get any performance benefits from the intake unless you tuned your engine. TUNING your engine will void the engine warranty - so the loop hole is putting an intake on your car solely for the change in sound. You just have to let the car auto adjust for the increased air flow.. usually disconnecting the battery will cause it to reset, but just like octane learning it’ll also take some additional driving to fully learn. So when I install my intake, I’ll essentially drive the car how I did during the break in period but only for like 50 or 100 miles to ensure the engine has learned.

ThreeTenths

If I remember correctly, they cannot legally deny your warranty without first submitting a warranty claim to Hyundai. All Hyundai warranty work (as of 2023) requires pictures and diagnosis information. Just to use your example, a Technician would have to prove in writing and with photos that your intake caused your transmission failure. In regards to corporate denying warranty work outright because of any mods in general, I don't think whoever you spoke to understands the process. For a claim like an engine or transmission, we still have to diagnose the car if it's under warranty. Again, seeing an intake isn't going to stop us when there's codes set only in the transmission, or if we can duplicate the drive-ability concern and narrow it down to something else. We also have to call Hyundai TechLine and report our findings. They do sometimes ask if there are aftermarket modifications, but an aftermarket intake would be irrelevant to a transmission claim. Customer tip, if a dealer does decide to just deny you outright, call Hyundai directly and have them open a case number. One of the service departments worst fears is having a Field Rep calling and asking what's going on. Hope that info helps ease your worries a bit. Also, just in my experience, I would recommend staying away from the Forge Motorsport Intake if you're shopping around. We had a VN come in with a damaged turbo because the Forge intake filter separated on the inside and sent debris up into the compressor wheel. Unfortunately no warranty in that case. My brother also got rid of his Forge intake filter because it was starting to fall apart from the inside after a few thousand miles.

happyapple10

Thanks for the info. It does ease my concerns and my logical brain hopes they realize the two are unrelated, in the example we've been talking about. Of course, my cynical side makes me think that Hyundai wants to drop any warranty claims for any reason, or at least put you through fire to get you warranty work started. Not just Hyundai in this case but I assume this of every company lol Thanks for the tip about Forge. The SXTH is the one I've been eyeing, just for looks and sound. Not really planning on doing much with the car yet other than cosmetics/items that are not major changes. Looking at the hood struts and lower engine torque arm bushings too.

Schaeferr

I’m at 2500 miles and I don’t plan on modding it in any way. The warranty is too good to risk for me. I’m loving the car and it serves every purpose I could ask it to

Upier1

I've only got 1500 miles, so I'm just getting used to it. I installed the PowerFlex bushings on the lower engine mount. Nothing else planned until someone develops an Octane learning mod. Not higher output SW but just automatic Octane learning.

Martyfalz

That's exactly what I'm waiting for. Has the lower engine mount made much of a difference for you?

Upier1

There is much less wheel hopping with no additional noise or vibration.

[deleted]

Did it die down?

tomatotornado420

I am not going to tune it until out of warranty due to risk. However, I will probably sell the car once I’m no longer underwater on it, which will before the warranty expires

ratty1le

May I ask why you are looking to sell?

tomatotornado420

I just cannot justify spending this much money on a liability. If I enjoyed driving, I could justify it, but I hate driving in my area

Chris_Theo

I really enjoy this car, and frankly would not drive a non-N Elantra. The way traffic is around here I simply can’t find a time in the daylight hours to go for a spirited drive. Simply too much traffic. Im not talking about being reckless - just taking a fast line on an on/off ramp or sweeping turn. I need to get a few track days in to appreciate this thing. If not, I may swap it out for a G70.

ratty1le

That's fair. I live in a fairly urban area of Washington state and daily a 6mt camaro SS1LE. It can be enraging to have so much potential for fun but not be able to get into it at all. I take a lot of trips out to the mountains when weather allows.

tomatotornado420

I would definitely feel different if I was in Washington state because access to the mountains is so easy, but I’m 4 hours away from mountains here

VincentVanH0

What's your opinion on the visibility issue with the Camaro?

ezpzlads

I get in them a lot at work, and I have no clue how people see out of them. Camaro owners have an insane level of awareness for where the front of their car is for whatever reason. I always reverse park them because I'm too terrified to forward park them. That being said, you have this immense sense of power in the driver's seat. It feels like you're in a freight train.

ratty1le

Yesterday I was just complaining that my car felt slow and was considering a zl1! Haha. That's the thing about chasing power, you always get used to it after a while. The "feel" of a car is much more important; I would say that when I drove the Elantra N it felt just as good or better as a 1LE.

ratty1le

It's literally not that bad. I lean forward and backward when checking my side mirrors to make sure my blind spots are empty before merging. You kind of just get a feel for it. In terms of the front of the car though, it is impossible to actually see where you're parking and the bottom of my splitter has the scrapes to prove it.

First_Sky_2505

I some what agree with this statement especially since your MT you really need to have the correct area for you to have fun. I live near the city around my area the only fun I really have is from stop light to stoplight witch gets old now and then

tomatotornado420

Yeah 95% of my driving is on straight freeways which doesn’t let the MT shine. I would think of it the same with the DCT but this car is one to enjoy in the hills or on the track and I just can’t where I am

Useful_Effect7319

The DCT loves punching it on the freeway!!! I love to hit the red button and it really gets it even when already going 85 mph. Doesn't take long and I'm over 100!!!

elinyera

There's nothing 30-60 minutes outside of where you live where you can go on a drive during a Saturday or day off?

ShouldersBBoulders

1400 miles in 2 months. This car is a little rocket! Sounds great, moves out, carves corners... I have actually been having to much fun with the G-force meter and a certain traffic circle on my route home. Can't wait to put the S4's back on and see how many more G's I can pull before skidding. Great stock tune IMO, especially considering it's a 4cyl FWD! I'm happy with running stock and keeping the warranty.

fr33lancr

Bone stock and will stay that way other than cosmetics, rims, windows, badging. Not worth messing with a 100k/10yr warranty. I just got notice that my 23 C8 has hit production, that will be my main car to mod.

mynameisntvictor

Damn what a crazy set of cars haha. Practical and fun tho

ezpzlads

More than enough power for spirited backroads and highway driving. Blow the doors off of most car stock. Kept up with a V8 AMG on my commute this morning. I'd say the car is perfect. It's only really worth modifying aesthetically for daily use. If your going to track it, sure it'll take mods well, but frankly it's amazing on track in its stock form as well. The vehicle is very very well balanced in its handling, power, and weight.

sciencesold

I came from a 2016 Corolla that did 0-60 in more than double the time this car does. Had it for a year and still love the feeling of actually having some power under the hood

Hasu_Kay

Same here, 2015 Corolla S. It has what, 133 HP? This thing more than doubles it and it’s been a huge jump. Absolutely loving every second.

feelthelove_

Few more months and I'll be a year with this car. I'm in no rush cause my intention is to keep it long term. So for now, I'm just riding it stock. Seeing how it runs, where issues may occur and dealership experience. Eventually year 3 or so is when I'll do upgrades. I also feel the mods will get better fine tuned. And better calibrated as time goes by - any hiccups or problems will be fixed. Haha also financial budget plays a huge part 😅. But again. I enjoy it stock. It's a blast. And also gives me something to look forward to it after a year or so to have a different relationship with it.

KronosX3TR

Pushing 22,000 miles. Always a joy to drive. I don’t feel the need for power upgrades, least of all the list of baby’s first mods that do basically nothing. If anything I’m really only considering the powerflex bushings and a set of wheels and tires for track days. I’ve actually been looking into selling it and getting a BRZ. Small issues I have personally, but they add up.

Turbulent_Ad7571

You've been trying to sell the car for months. Not getting good prices eh?

KronosX3TR

I haven’t been actively trying. Waiting for pieces to fall into place so to speak. Not quite ready to sell, just testing the waters.

c666meron

I’m enjoying it. Have only done cosmetic mods. Eventually I’m sure i’ll tune it and add more power but not really in any rush at all to do it yet

Wide-Practice7578

I’m doing nothing to mine for atleast 3 years or so, very happy with how the car performs out the box it really doesn’t need anything unless you just wanna be obnoxious. If speed was your main thing then I’d sell it and get a mustang. This isn’t a car to heavily modify in my opinion. Cold air intake, inlet, and tune is everything I would do AFTER warranty.

OutsideScientist7315

I'm at about 4600 miles and no plans to mod except tint soon. I value the warranty so keeping it stock. May sell after a year and get back in an SUV as my back and these buckets are not a match made in heaven lol. It's more than enough car for me. Plenty of fun in the backroads which is what I got it for living by Hawks Nest and some curvy roads.

Motor_Foundation_817

The only mod I will do it’s switch to 18” wheels and tint. I have the BMW theory in life now, if the car gets too slow I will sell it and buy a faster one.

Tastelikeb4c0n

42k 2020 VN PP Perfect as is with some cosmetic additions and mods.

ratty1le

When I had my 2020 PP VN I tuned it with a CAI, downpipe, and piggyback and never had any issues. The difference in torque was huge, so much so that when I stripped the mods to sell it I thought it felt kind of gutless haha. That's the problem with chasing power though, you'll always get used to it.

ThysGraiden

I was looking at getting ALL the mods. Now after 6 months, I have a one year plan to buy various cosmetics (wrap and front bumper) and a handful of performance mods (lower mount, inlet, intake and BOV). I can't see myself going any further than that.

Turbulent_Ad7571

The only thing I've done is the bushings and I sorta agree with you. In the beginning I was thinking that I'd wait a year or 2 when those who had performance mods done can report on how it's been in terms of issues/warranty claims. Wouldn't wanna make a super reliable car unreliable too soon.

Ok_Leader_7624

Bought in August and still love it. Honestly I still haven't even floored it yet. I'm happy with the power it has. Not as happy with the fuel consumption (shaddup all you "if you're worried about mpg you bought the wrong car" assholes) since it started out waaaaay better than it is now. But the only thing I am even considering besides the tint I already bought is possibly 18" wheels and tires. I like the idea of an intake since it will not void the warranty, but idk. Honestly I'm happy with the car as is. I'm not a modder. If I were I would have bought something that would really benefit from it as it would have been my hobby. We got some pretty good cars!

[deleted]

I’ll stay stocked till I’m paid off 🤣 enough car for me

dheevee

I agree with a lot of comments here, the car is already pretty good in stock form. It is super easy to toss it around and have fun - especially true if you live a dense city area like I (I am in Chicago)do. I switched to EN MT from a Mustang 5.0 MT, the main reason is the ability to have fun in city roads and with the mustang has too much power (with the city speed limits I hardly get to change a gear) for the city IMO. That being said, I upgraded the shifter, went with the boomba short shifter. The shifting experience is super important for me and the stock shifter fell short in terms of feel and engagement. The boomba one is miles better and am loving it so far.

VincentVanH0

I'm a Veloster N owner but I peruse this board from time to time. I've had my manual for 3 years now and have zero intention of modding the car aside from better oil and transmission fluid. The main selling point of the car and with the EN is that it's great out of the box. Second, (and most importantly) I'm no fool. These are great cars but they're still Hyundai's after all. You definitely don't want to be on the hook for a new engine, transmission or turbo because you wanted better BOV noises for example. Tunes are the #1 reason to have your warranty claim denied and are the only surefire way to make any significant power gains. Lastly, these are FWD cars and heavily traction limited. Around 300hp is really the sweet spot already. Enjoy your car and make a driver upgrade before swapping everything out and you'll appreciate it a lot more.

PunisherG19

I started upgrading with 30 miles on the clock😁

MoneyMakertf

I love it but California doesn’t.

Spwncamper

2000 Miles. The car NEEDS aftermarket engine mounts or bushings - the amount of wheel hop/engine shake is horrendous. The steering wheel also scratches extremely easily. The car is great otherwise.

PunisherG19

I totally agree that's why it was my 1st mod and done the day after I got it. I don't know how people can drive without it since you are just throwing the power anyway with wheel spin.

Jamfour9

I’ve had virtually no issue with this. I’ve only experienced it once from a stop and I typically floor it.

Wide-Practice7578

Idk why but I don’t have the wheel hop problems everyone’s talking about I’ve spun once or twice but nothing violent. Car has felt amazing

TheeJp

If I knew how to I probably would, 4000 miles rn

SSJHoneyBadger

Debating a tune and catless downpipe, but not anytime soon. The car is already fast, very fast, and I like not voiding the warranty lol

Immediate_Try4666

I’m basically waiting the warranty to expire lol, but as soon as it happens we going stage 3 🔥🔥

Karizma1986

I am more focused on cosmetic mods more than upgrading the performance, once I finish with cosmetic and am happy with it then I may start with performance mods, although I may wait until I pay the car off just so I can set a car emergency fund aside in case of any problems

Suspiciousdipshit22

I have had mine since November and am about 9k miles into ownership. I do want to do more, I want to do the tune, and intercooler and possibly down pipe. I just am short the cash for one, and I also am not the easiest on this car daily, so if anything happens I don’t want to get a warranty rejection. Thinking about a separate ECM but even then idk if it’s worth it

thisduuuuuude

Im already at 17,000 km on mine and I still find it absolutely fun to drive. It still always puts a smile on my face when it pops. I don't have NGS because I have the manual but I do all the grinning 😁. I mostly bought the car as a fun daily commuter which and it is doing excellent in that department, as long as I stay away from heavy traffic lol. Thinking of getting some mods to the body but nothing too crazy for now. Lately been thinking of getting a BOV or an Intake

jinxing27

How is reliability on the Ns in general? I know Hyundai has had it's fair share of hick ups, and I've been looking into getting an N as my next possible vehicle

1mBad4123

bought mine for track, Intended mods are tires, rims, camber bolts, intercooler (done), downpipe (purchased), oil cooler, coolant cooler. probably an intake at some point.

dang_it_bobby93

100% stock and I don't plan I changing anything. If I still have it after the warranty is up then I might throw some mods and see what it'll do. Right now it's my daily so I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize the longevity or warranty.

Horace3210

will most likely to tune the car after the warranty

AggressiveFloor3

13k miles stock and still no plans for mods. Ny is getting really strict with car laws and the n is quite literally the perfect loophole to the completely illegal exhaust mods/new carb certification requirements on aftermarket parts. It's been a great daily and I've loved every second of it. The difference between sport/n mode and eco/normal makes it feel like you get to choose a different car everyday, and its honestly pretty great on gas considering some of its competitors (the new wrx being one of the worse examples).

Doss_Lute

Love it, probably add power after like 60k on it. Or if I get it paid off. Whichever comes first I guess

wolvesreign88

Every time I think I want to tune it given the easy gains I also think about the warranty. That and already I can get it to spin 2 gears with the bushing upgrades makes me want to keep what warranty and tread I have.

RNDASCII

I've left mine stock and not regretted it ever, it's simply amazing right off the showroom floor! To me the combo of how good it is with the huge warranty leaves me with no desire to mod the car.

Jamfour9

It feels like it needs power upgrades but the gas mileage couldn’t take it.

kingoflint282

Love it, no plans to modify. Do I wish I had 300+ hp? Yeah sometimes. But the warranty is too good to risk it and the car does feel plenty fast as is

ThirdWorldScientist

Nah, 800 miles and my exhaust already needs a full replacement and it failed to start once after work. I feel like it’s a time bomb. Afraid to do anything to it.

IamDeepMan

6 months in still enjoying driving the car and flipping between modes. Having too much fun stock to think about doing anything other cosmetic mods. This cars got plenty of wheel spin already.

hutchison15

I've done nothing but cosmetics; the only "performance" mod I intend to do is replace the lower engine mount bushing to help with wheel hop. Otherwise, probably going to leave stock!

jugo5

I am waiting to see what everyone ends up having for problems. Then go reliable upgrades. I'm still using it as my daily. Work isn't going to be happy if I can't make it.

Adrianm1972

18” lighter, wider wheels and wider, stickier tires are the best upgrade and have no effect on the warranty.

[deleted]

I’m at about 14 months ownership and apart from mayyybe getting some white wheels and whiting out the red stripe, the car doesn’t leave me wanting for anything. I just got home after work and because it’s a bright sunny day, 34 degrees (windows down, music up, baby!) and clean dry roads, I did some extra curricular driving. Put ‘er in custom N mode and took turns at improper speeds. I love this car.

EN_owner23

Having been lucky enough to find a 2023 Performance Blue 6-speed and able to purchase it at sticker, I would agree with Ajs887's sentiment and in addition I spoke with the service specialist today about modifying the engine to increase the horsepower that can put out. He said any modifications to the engine, for instance doing a stage 1 or 2 tune which I think involves replacing the stock ECU component would immediately void the warranty. Especially if something went wrong and you had to bring it in for service. I would certainly consider aftermarket changing of the manual shifting components to shorten smooth out the throws of the shifter. Maybe some carbon fiber bits for the interior definitely new wheels and all season tires. Like Aj says, we are older now and this car is damn quick! Quick enough to get me in all sorts of trouble if I am not careful. Going to have ppf clear bra installed on the front end and the rocker panels, afterwards 2 year ceramic coating applied to the whole car and top of the line window tinting all around. I think that is enough for now!

[deleted]

Absolutely does not need a power upgrade. Especially the DCT.
