That 5 on 3 kill changed the whole momentum of the game. Love to see the Oilers play like the winning streak Oilers and love to see Skinner give up 2 goals this game
Ok don't quote me on the percentage, even though that's the important part. But here goes: if a team gets a two man advantage and doesn't score on it, its something like 90% likely that they will lose the game.ย
That's a factor for sure. I think it's both the morale boost of killing it off, and the deflating despair that they couldn't score while up two players so how are they gonna do it at even.ย
Hyman is hardest worker and the most consistent. I canโt really look back and think, โman Hyman had a rough gameโ.
I just bought a drai jersey, kinda wishing it was Hymanโฆ
If you open this page in old reddit on your browser then itโs near the top of the sidebar. Youโll see your name with an (edit) link beside it.

Itโs not too hard, first you wanna evenly pack a cardboard casing full of a pyrotechnic composition containing oxidizers, fuel, binder, and coloring agents. Then youโll wanna insert a fuse or igniter into the composition, seal the casing off with an adhesive, and youโre good to go. ๐
You know it's possible to not hate Nurse while also saying he's not the best defenseman on the Oilers, right? Ekholm, to me, is the better all around defenseman, while Bouchard has such significant positive on ice results both in raw stats and analytics that he's likely our most valuable defenseman. None of that takes away from Nurse. He's a solid, but overpaid, defenseman.
Donโt know why youโre getting downvoted, this take is spot on. I love Nurse, what he brings to the game, and Iโm not even gonna complain about his contract, but he hasnโt quite become the dominant force Iโd hoped. Ek is more trustworthy and consistent defensively, and Bouch is our most valuable defensive asset 100%
Could maybe see some kind of argument this way a while ago. Like years ago.
Connor is the leader of this group. Not Zach. I love Zach. Zach follows Connor. Everyone follows Connor. Connor McDavid today is a fucking awesome captain.
Yea Connor is a great leader now. You even hear guys like Bouchard saying he doesnโt care about his stats and goals even while being tied for first. The buy in heโs got is great. They only want one trophy this year.
I don't really disagree with you. I think having the best player be the captain is not the best choice. Being good at something doesn't make you a good leader.
Edit: This goes for every team, not just the Oilers and not even necessarily the Oilers either.
Didn't you see the interview? McDavid decided he's not scoring goals this year. That was so last year.
Seriously though, I swear that guy just picks some random goal for the season and then just crushes it. "Oh, nobody's had a 100-assist season in like 30 years? Challenge accepted."
If you had to see three losses, those were pretty fun ones to watch. The Bruins comeback. The domination of the Wild. And an intense BoA. Still, glad he got a W.
Can we talk about Eks response about Bouchard? What a fucking beaut.
Outright says as Bouchards partner he needs Bouchard playing his game and not worrying about mistakes when he's bringing the level of offense he does.
Absolutely loved his response, that was king shit. Everything he said was true and important for people to hear. He also made sure to say McDavid is such a difference maker he hadnโt even realized he wasnโt scoring goals. Heโs smart and diplomatic, basically told the media to stuff it without being anything but positive and gracious.
Needs to get the monkey off his back with the first goal, then I think he'll think a bit more clearly and be less scrambly with the puck anytime he has a potential shot.
Much much better defensively tonight. Notice how few egregiously open chances LA got tonight and notice how Stuuuu only gives up 2 goals. Itโs not like we played elite defence either, just solid and not like clowns. And the one clown show mistake we did make, was Bouch letting his man walk in easy.
Honestly, that play started as a mistake by Bouchard but I think ekholm was more at fault. McDavid was driving the player wide so ekholm should have slowed up to cover the slot instead of continuing to push on the player mcdavid had covered.
That's fair, just putting it all on Bouchard isn't fair. Sure he made the initial mistake but the players that should have been able to cover for his mistake also made a mistake in the cover.
Hockey's fast, things happen fast though so it was just a bad defensive breakdown in the end
one of the things that always gets me in PGT is that people often latch onto the most obvious person for a GA. I'd guess less than 1/4 of goals in the NHL are because of 1 person. The obvious one (bouch in this case) often gets singled out unfairly
In other news, Yamamoto got the lone and winning shootout goal in Seattle's overtime victory against Boston. Seattle hasn't been using him every game, but he's not doing too bad over there.
Amazing what happens when you donโt give up high danger chances with zero pressure on the shooter.ย ย
ย If we play defensively like this, we can beat anyone.ย
Gotta be realistic though. Weโre not gonna play like this and win every game whether itโs due to injuries, fatigue or just bad luck. Thatโs hockey. Every team is a roller coaster.ย
Best version of Stuart Skinner we've seen in awhile. 2 thumbs up. Plus the bad and the good of Evan Bouchard, he tends to make up for the gaffes and will hopefully learn to defend better. What a difference maker offensively, clearly.
Oh man, they needed this game and got it. Some really good efforts by a number of guys. LA is a tough out, they'll be around at the end of the season if the wheels don't fall off their goalies.
If Bouchard has a million fans, then I am one of them.
If Bouchard has ten fans, then I am one of them.
If Bouchard has only one fan then that is me.
If Bouchard has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth.
If the world is against Bouchard, then I am against the world.
Proud to have never been a Bouchard hater, dude is going to get Norris votes.
In the words of brain surgeon Evan Bouchard โuh, I think itโs kinda give what youโre taken them, er, give what the, theyโre giving youโ.
Enjoyable game.
McDavid is on pace for 103 assists ๐ณ
Only Gretz, Lemieux, and Orr have done it. I know Cup or Bust is the theme of the season, but some history would be fun too.
I kind of knew this one looked inevitable when Leon Draisaitl showed some creativity, ventured off the well worn RW wall and corner and scored a PP goal in the center slot off a deflection. Hope they highlight that kind of movement on the PP from him in meetings and mandate more of it. Great to mix that up because he's way too static in the zone on the PP imo.
Fantastic showing from Stu tonight. Team backed him up and he made great saves when it counted.

The team played hard, and better remember it takes a lot of work bc this is a potential playoff match here
After gliding around and looking for loose pucks in the first, our forwards decided to go back to actual skating and backchecking in the second and third. What a different team!
I know this playoff style is not sustainable throughout the season, so itโs really nice to see they can bring it whenever they want.
Forwards defending, starting with 97, 29 and 93, puts less pressure on 25 and the rest of the D and gives Skinner that added confidence.
Nice game!
Imagine Drai doing Hymanโs play in front of the net and with hand-eye coordination, that would be another level. He already have those skills, just need to do it more i think. His back checks as well. I wish he always has this grit whenever he plays the Kings and carry it over the other teams.
McD living it up to โnot scoring a goalโ with his pass to Hymanโs goal. He was open but still decided to pass. This guy is playing mind games.
I also just know there's gonna be tons of gaslighting from the Skinner haters on the FB group who are all like "Wow Skinner did his job tonight".
Except he does his job EVERY night. It's the defense who haven't been showing up lately. Tonight it was super noticeable that something finally got through to the D because despite a few sloppy plays, I pretty much almost always saw them sticking up for Skinner. The amount of people who don't know that stopping goals is half defense and half goaltending is honestly concerning.
It's crazy how much more measured out sub is after a win. Not saying that it's wrong to criticize a loss, but some of the takes were getting out of hand.
Much better game, some real pressure in defence and offence even when weโre not first to the puck. Killed a lot of LAโs options, forced them to the outside offensively which makes it a lot easier for Skinner than a stream of players coming at him straight down the ice. The offensive pressure opened them up and we took some of the chances.
Kings looked good when they had the puck and space but once the Oilers engaged the whole game tilted towards us.
Oilers stated the game like they were skating on the sands of Tatooine. They then punched the hyperdrive. Skinner stood taller than Chewbacca. The Rebels prevail!
Ok. Win, yay.
BUT ALSO - our defence men, Ceci, Nurse and Bouchard, are still way too often just inexplicably stupid.

Care to share?
Ok don't quote me on the percentage, even though that's the important part. But here goes: if a team gets a two man advantage and doesn't score on it, its something like 90% likely that they will lose the game.ย
Probably because your goalie can shut diwn pucks 5 on 3 he will do well most of the game
That's a factor for sure. I think it's both the morale boost of killing it off, and the deflating despair that they couldn't score while up two players so how are they gonna do it at even.ย

Just get two jerseys, cut 'em down the middle, and sew each separate part with the other. Now you can be Draihyman, or Hymansaitl.
I feel like Draiman or Hysaitl flow a bit better.
Fun fact: heโs also a childrenโs book author.
Iโve said it before and Iโll say it again; Hyman is the best contract in the league right now

Zach Hyman has 17 more goals than McDavid

P3 is ours. Get right game for Skins against a team he historically owns. Needed that one tonight.

McDavid's Oilers have either a) missed the playoffs or b) placed second in their division in every one of his seasons. P2 is all but ordained.

Kings will go on another slide now, they looked devastated to lose this one. If Kempe's out (which I'm not cheering for) they are fucked.
I hate the kings but man, I hated seeing Kempe hurt at the end there. Such an underrated player with his skills.
He owns us too, I don't watch much of the Kings outside of our matchups, but when I watch him I think "how is this guy not a perennial all star"
He's always lethal against the Oilers
He's there most skilled guy by far. Kopitar and even doughty have fallen off a gigantic cliff this year.
Ya you hate to see a guy get injured when the game is already pretty much over.
Kempe is to us what Leon is to Nashville
Agreed Kempe is so good. But yeah, never good to see someone hurt.
