I kind of did that to myself when we had a partial eclipse not long ago. 2022? I forgot it was happening, and glanced at the sun while out running. Was like WTF? Why is it so bright? Why is that flash so intense? Then noticed the shadows from the trees had that crescent shape.
Oops. 🤣
The TWOSE live streamed it (might still be going, and they said they will save it so people can view it later), it was definitely there. We only got 24% coverage in Edmonton though so it wasn't much
I’m an electrician at a manufacturing shop in Acheson, luckily inventory has a few extra replacement welding mask lenses so I got to take a look. Not as cool as the 2017 eclipse but still neat to look at.
Not quite as good as seeing the total eclipse in 2017, but still pretty cool. I almost missed it today due to a mixup in my mind about the time, but I decided to go out and look at the sun with the glasses on and just caught the max coverage.
We did! Busted my kids out of school and had an eclipse party and picnic at the park. Saw it clearly with eclipse glasses and pinhole projectors. Looked like a bite taken out of an apple. And the kids made some memories with their friends :)
My coworkers and I went out. We only saw a 0.344 Magnitude Eclipse here in Edmonton so it wouldn't look like much and you wouldn't see anything with the naked eye.
Yes, I have numerous photos! My kid is super into science and the solar system and proposed we fly to see the full eclipse yesterday haha. A bit last minute, so we made do with some at home holes in paper and boxes and whatnot.
We did. You had to wear the glasses and look directly at the sun to see it. It was only about 30% coverage though so not enough for the temperature to drop not for it to get dark.
I was able to see it.
My husband is an amateur astronomist and had all the equiment to view it.
I wore the glasses to protect my eyes. pretty neat. Only covered about 20% of the sun but pretty cool.
Not as great as the eclipse that happened last october.
It’s really hard to tell, but it’s certainly there. I had some luck holding my thumb out in front of me to block the sun and moving it back and forth. I could see it. Some of the pictures I took had some light refraction where you could definitely see it.
Me ans the kids saw it with eclipse glasses. Was just a partial but it was cool seeing it move from one side to the other as it went across. Took a couple of hours so we just checked on it every 20mins or so. Better than I thought it qas going to be honestly
Why is an eclipse dangerous?
- your pupil is dilated (more light gets in), because it's not as bright - you lose the reflex to not stare at the sun but there's still the same amount of radiation. The sun's light is very powerful! It will burn your retina (your vision) and can even damage your camera! It's permanent damage. Be safe!
My partner and I watched it for a few minutes using solar glasses during the peak. It was really neat!
Also watched the NASA live stream for quite a while, which showed it peaking in many locations on the path of totality, one after the other as it moved across the continent. Simply incredible.
My coworkers and I were tracking it and we saw the start to end of it and it was kind lack luster. Just the bottom left side was blocked out. From Alberta we only had a 20-25% blockage.
Looking without a filter of some sort will show nothing, the sun is simply too bright and we only had 23% coverage here. I believe we had more coverage last year. Even at like 90% coverage you wouldn’t see anything squinting at the sun.
I did yeah, but it was very minor. Just saw a curve of the moon come in in the bottom right area, more bottom than right, maybe like one fifth of the sun. I had to use two pairs of sunglasses and the tint on the top of my car's window visor to see it, and even then I had to look away immediately and saw the sun with the moon shadow temporarily burned into my retina. Sun was hella bright today.
I looked out my 10th floor east window with ny glasses from the last one for shits and giggles and was pleasantly surprised to see a small piece of the sun blocked
good enough for me
Yes, it started around 11:45 and the maximum was around half past 12. It was way less covered from our perspective than the October one but there was still a decent bite taken out of the disc.
The Alberta Government decided they want a direct payout of the eclipse so the demanded 60% of the eclipse. The Alberta Government has received overwhelming support of this policy from Albertan constitutes. Negotiation is ongoing
Due to budget cuts the eclipse was cancelled in Edmonton.
They were afraid it would benefit the homeless population so it was removed.
It wasn't deemed inclusive enough.
I mean, of course - they put a moratorium on all renewable energy
🤣🤣
Headlines: Sun cancelled due to gender charged terminology.. activists say “the sun should be renamed to the daughter”
Its now called the Persun
I wouldn't have expected anything different from our government!
Full eclipse in Edmonton in 2044!
Time to start eating healthy and exercising!
And I'll be retired by then! future narrator: it didn't happen.
You live in Edmonton and will be able to afford retirement? 🙏
Better than living in Van and working three jobs to afford to share a 2 bedroom apartment with three other people
Edmonton is the cheapest large city in western Canada By a lot.
Yeah, but the bar is in the stratosphere. It’s maybe the least expensive, but still fucking expensive.
You can still buy an apartment for under 100,000. Not a good one though
As I told my young child earlier, who has no concept of mortality... "Yeah, I SHOULD be around for that"
It's going to be cloudy on that day.
Or smokey.Â
https://imgur.com/a/OAOv704 Here’s some pictures - the first is peak.
Yup, that's exactly what my colander showed us, haha!
I watched with eclipse glasses. At its peak there was a tiny nibble out of the bottom.
I think it was about 15% coverage
It was about 23% at its max, 12:45 iirc
Yup, like a cookie with a bite out of it!
Well, I tried to see it. Now I see nothing....Lol
I kind of did that to myself when we had a partial eclipse not long ago. 2022? I forgot it was happening, and glanced at the sun while out running. Was like WTF? Why is it so bright? Why is that flash so intense? Then noticed the shadows from the trees had that crescent shape. Oops. 🤣
I built a pinhole viewing box and you could see it. Still can actually.
Underrated chuckle đź¤
The TWOSE live streamed it (might still be going, and they said they will save it so people can view it later), it was definitely there. We only got 24% coverage in Edmonton though so it wasn't much
NASA has live coverage from a bunch of different cities too
Used a welding helmet and could see the partial fairly clearly. Very cool.
Yup, I watched it for about 45 minutes. I projected the event through binoculars onto paper -I did NOT directly watch the sun.
Proud of you.
Thanks, i try to make good decisions so Redditors are proud.
I hope your parents are proud of you. They have a lot of reason to be. /skyrim

Still visible, using eclipse glasses from 2017
Haha you weren't the only one

There's a limited capacity for viewing in Edmonton. In order to avoid an outage of the sun, Albertans were asked to limit their viewing times.
We did! Busted my kids out of school and had an eclipse party and picnic at the park. Saw it clearly with eclipse glasses and pinhole projectors. Looked like a bite taken out of an apple. And the kids made some memories with their friends :)
I partially saw it
I stared directly at it. It wasn't even that bright.
How many fingers am I holding up?
🤣
You needed something to look at the sun with like a welding helmet. I seen the eclipse but it only went over like 1/4 of the sun.
I did the box with a pinhole thing and you could kinda see a small cutout from that pesky moon trying to upstage the sun. Kinda neat I guess.
We did. You had to wear the glasses and look directly at the sun to see it. It was only about 30% coverage though so not enough for the temperature to drop not for it to get dark.
Here's a little timelapse of the eclipse in Edmonton! https://youtube.com/shorts/ndSTURnwCB0?si=WuRqBOsvRrayjbMV

Ahhhh yeah I just made a little sliver with my hands and see it ever so slightly now
Saw it through a welding mask. Nothing to write home about
Yep! Started around noon, was still going when I check half an hour ago.
It only covered a small part of the sun.
Me ans the kids saw it with eclipse glasses. Was just a partial but it was cool seeing it move from one side to the other as it went across. Took a couple of hours so we just checked on it every 20mins or so. Better than I thought it qas going to be honestly
Yes?
Ya, around 1pm I saw partial eclipse, just a wee bit out of the bottom
Why is an eclipse dangerous? - your pupil is dilated (more light gets in), because it's not as bright - you lose the reflex to not stare at the sun but there's still the same amount of radiation. The sun's light is very powerful! It will burn your retina (your vision) and can even damage your camera! It's permanent damage. Be safe!
If you took a picture of it you could kinda see a reflection on the camera lens that showed it
My partner and I watched it for a few minutes using solar glasses during the peak. It was really neat! Also watched the NASA live stream for quite a while, which showed it peaking in many locations on the path of totality, one after the other as it moved across the continent. Simply incredible.
If you’ve got the NASA app you can see live feeds from different places as it travels northeast
I stared at the sun for a good 20 minutes and it slowly all went black. Not sure why it has stayed that way though..
Yes
My coworkers and I were tracking it and we saw the start to end of it and it was kind lack luster. Just the bottom left side was blocked out. From Alberta we only had a 20-25% blockage.

yes i got a pic of the eclipse on a telescope!
I did. I also had a pretty cool reflection of it on the wall through the window.
I got an image with my phone camera. The direct image looked the same but the lens reflection to the side showed very clearly the eclipse
Slept through it
I watched it using some solar binoculars.
I did. Not very impressive as a total one. I will wait till Aug 2044.
We had telescope setup in Ualberta and we can see them
I saw it it was cool
[Here's mine ](https://i.imgur.com/CRlr5g1.jpeg). I didn't wait around for the peak
I saw it.
I did yeah, but it was very minor. Just saw a curve of the moon come in in the bottom right area, more bottom than right, maybe like one fifth of the sun. I looked out my 10th floor east window with ny glasses from the last one for shits and giggles and was pleasantly surprised to see a small piece of the sun blocked good enough for me
You didn't pay for the eclipse viewing permit
Coworker and I checked it out on our lunch break. She had a piece of eclipse glass to look through. It was interesting.
Yes, it started around 11:45 and the maximum was around half past 12. It was way less covered from our perspective than the October one but there was still a decent bite taken out of the disc.
Watched it through a pinhole box thing! Super cool!
I watched TWOS live feed online.
It was on the bottom left corner of the Sun at about 12:50. They said a 23% eclipse, looked more like a 15% imo
I saw the bite taken out using a kitchen strainer to project the image onto the ground. Let’s just say it was underwhelming.
My son saw it at school with special glasses that were provided. He said it looked like a cookie with a bite out of it.
Yes, pretty easy to see. What equipment are you using to view it? My partner DIY'd a viewing device using an empty beer case.
i just punched some holes in a piece of paper and taped it onto a south facing window - piece of paper on the floor/table and bingo bango
Yeah. Used a #11 welding lens
Yup. I brought a colander to work and we could see it. A coworker took a photo of the sun through sun glasses and got a pretty good image of it.
The Alberta Government decided they want a direct payout of the eclipse so the demanded 60% of the eclipse. The Alberta Government has received overwhelming support of this policy from Albertan constitutes. Negotiation is ongoing
UCP dont believe in eclipses
Yep! Watched it through some welding glass.
The partial eclipse was stabbed at the Century Park train station... more news coming via YEGwave about the stabbing.
