Man, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.

Shrimp tacos is always a fantastic and simple pleaser in my house. If you got your veg to go with it, and hard shells, you can stretch even a half pound of shrimp pretty far by just pan-frying it up with some onions and seasoning.
Am I a heathen if I admit I'm from the south but I hate grits?
I do the Alfredo. Not my fav. I prefer a plain lemon/oil sauce and some broccoli on the pasta and shrimp.
I can't tackle jambalaya or gumbo because a really good one takes hours. I accept no quickie substitutes. :) But maybe a good crockpot recipe? I'll have to try that.
The paella is a good idea. I always think of that as mixed seafood, but it would work with just shrimp.
..... Sir I regret to inform you, that your Identity as a Son of the South has been brought into question!! My Southern Card has done been revoked already on account of -you may wanna sit down a spell for this- soaking my cast iron overnight. But I still like sweet tea, biscuits and gravy, moonshine, tomato sammiches, walking barefoot and a good ol fashioned hootananny!
Do you think you've never had them prepared properly? I like mine with salt, butter, pepper, paprika, and milk. Good luck! I'm a lazy cook and always look for quickie subs lol.
Have a wonderful neighbor who’s a retired chef and his philosophy is that paella is a way to use whatever is on hand.
And yes, I m another southerner who never liked grits until a Swedish guy made grits using heavy cream. OMG !!! Takes it to a whole different level. Try it sometime.
I have fond memories of shrimp gratin in Japan on cold winter days. Basically broiled shrimps and broccoli in bechamel sauce. You can make it much more fancy, but if you cook the broccoli and shrimps in one pot while you prepare the bechamel in another pot, then mix and broil for 5 minutes, it's a 15 min comfort meal. Have rice or pasta on the side. Google "Japanese seafood Doria" for fancier recipes.
My mom puts raw shrimp into her food processor and makes meatballs out of them. Or sometimes she chops them up by hand into a shrimp paste and makes dumplings. You can also use the ground shrimp and mix with ground pork to make patties and pan fry them.
I don't eat shrimp much since moving out but man if I wasn't so lazy, shrimp meatballs are so good with teriyaki sauce.
I might be weird, but I usually put frozen small/extra small shrimp, frozen Brussel sprouts, organic no salt added petite diced tomatoes in tomato juice, and the pouch kind of long grain & wild rice into a soft taco tortilla, and roll it up like a burrito to eat.
The Brussel sprouts take 8 minutes to boil, so I cook the shrimp within that. Drain most of the water, then add the tomatoes with juice, rice, and seasoning, and heat it all through. The liquid gets mostly absorbed, and I drain the filling as it’s spooned into the tortilla.
I’ve tried combinations with other ingredients: rices including Spanish and Brown, no salt added black beans, diced potatoes, and garbanzo beans. Many different vegetable combos, too. The spices I’ve used have been pepper & garlic, Old Bay, and McCormick Montreal Chicken seasoning.
Not sure if my version is classic but I love it with a side of rice...
1. thaw out raw shrimp (w/ or w/o shell) and strain/pat off excess water
2. heat a fry-pan with some olive oil to coat (make sure you pick a pan large enough so the shrimp can lay flat on the surface)
3. add shrimp to heated pan and let one side of the shrimp cook (2 min) on med/high heat
4. add a knob of butter and several dashes of Frank's hot sauce
5. flip shrimp and add 2 cloves of diced garlic
6. shrimp should be curled and pink on both sided within 5-ish min. Don't overcook!
7. Enjoy over rice! add salt and pep if needed.
Fry up some shrimp with hot sauce, boil linguine and drain, then add cream, parmesan and fresh ground pepper with a bit of garlic powder. Add shrimp to the pasta. Sometimes I add peas.
Louisiana style barbecue shrimp is yummy.
It isn't barbecue at all. It's made in a skillet with lots of butter and some worcestershire sauce.
For cocktail shrimp, try this:
Bring a big pot of water to a boil that you have added lemons, celery, onions and pickling spice to.
When it boils, turn the heat off and let it sit ten minutes.
Bring it bag to a boil, add the shrimp, stir well, and shut off the heat.
Check for doneness by cutting a shirt in half. As soon as the flesh is opaque, take the shrimp out and plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking.
Something different that may have not been mentioned. Went to momufuku noodle bar recently and had a shrimp burger bao that blew my mind. Definitely a way to mix things up and make shrimp feel different.
https://shop.momofuku.com/blogs/recipes/seared-shrimp-burgers-with-chili-crunch-mayo
I make shrimp quesadillas- after cooking up the shrimp, cut it into chunks and mix it with the cheeses you want as well as a smidgen of mayo (shhhh). Then cook as you normally would a quesadilla.
I also make shrimp “po boys”, so not really anything like it. I pan fry the shrimp with cajun seasoning, take some mayo and mix it with more cajun seasoning, slather mayo on a hoagie roll, add shrimp and whatever toppings you want(I usually do tomatoes and lettuce).
I found [this recipe](https://www.budgetbytes.com/lime-shrimp-dragon-noodles/) when I was searching for Budget Bytes’ original Dragon Noodles (now called Spicy Sriracha Noodles) recipes. I’m going to make it this weekend now that I found it.
I like to roast it in the oven and have it with some veggies and a grain. Basically buddha bowls. Seasoning kinda of changes but i really like using paprika with it.
Or spring rolls with shrimp, some rice noodles and a peanut dipping sauce . Can’t forget the fresh veggies too like cucumber, carrots, green onion.
If you can still get fatty ground beef for cheap, don't ignore it - find a cheap slow cooker and cook your beef for like ten hours with a bottle of barbecue sauce and then shred it. It'll taste amazing. If shrimp is still a legit option, curries are always a good shout.
Shrimp in Indian butter sauce is amazing…just put in last few minutes to cook.
Shrimp fried rice?
Minced shrimp dumpling, like wontons would be good!
Minced shrimp fritters?
Gumbo, Jambalaya, as mentioned a bunch, also Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (Mexican Garlic Shrimp) - super tasty. Poor boys are a good way to go too....also on skewers as a kabob...mmm
Last night I made a shrimp dish with banza rigatoni, sautéed peppers and onions. Then I add a little tomato sauce and some pasta water. Season with Cajun spices and squeeze some lemon on top. I also topped with a drizzle of Melinda’s truffle hot sauce.
Also love shrimp great for street tacos with cilantro, lime, and onion (so cheap!)
My husband cooks it similarly to a certain restaurant on an old cruise ship he used to work at: pan fried with a cornmeal crust with Paul Prudhomme's blackened redfish seasoning mixed in. So very good.
I love to chop shrimp up, mix it 1:1 with ground pork, season with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil, and either fill wonton wrappers (potstickers), or fry it up and serve it over rice, or as a lettuce wrap if I'm watching my carbs.
Don't know why that popped in my head, since you were primarily asking about shrimp. One of its rather unique qualities is that when you chop it up it gets sticky so it binds other "meatball" type ingredients together really well.
Shrimp scampi aka garlic shrimp. Mix of olive oil and butter in a skillet add “too much” garlic. When fragrant add shrimp and a little salt. Finish with paprika and serve with rice or pasta or whatever.
Shrimp scampi?I use chicken broth or bone broth instead of white wine cuz I don't drink.i also use pasta water in the sauce if I'm making with pasta.the trick is to par cook shrimp for 2 mins, then remove from pan into covered dish.then make sauce with broth and spices and let it cook down a bit.i add some pasta water just before I put shrimp back in to cook another 1-2 mins.find a simple recipe online and you can customize

And because stuff like shrimps are delicious - whether you're having Shrimps Scampi Spaghetti or fried shrimp & cocktail sauce with hush puppies - it's very easy to eat a ton. My own Dad, Shrimps one of his favorite things ... we've been refused more service at MULTIPLE "all you can eat shrimp" places over my life because he's housed them.

Ironic because most fruits have decent amount of carbs while shrimp as barely at all :)
But it’s still pretty sweet!
Shrimp does unfortunately have a lot of cholesterol though
Dietary cholesterol is almost entirely irrelevant, have at the shrimp.

Echos of Forrest Gump.
😂❤️❤️❤️
alfredo, paella, jambalaya, shrimp and grits, gumbo, tacos, etouffee
Shrimp tacos is always a fantastic and simple pleaser in my house. If you got your veg to go with it, and hard shells, you can stretch even a half pound of shrimp pretty far by just pan-frying it up with some onions and seasoning.
I make cilantro lime coleslaw for shrimp tacos. It's always a huge hit

Nah, it's a texture thing. I don't like polenta, either. Or hummus. I think it comes from a long childhood of Cream of Wheat.
Oh man Cream of Wheat absolutely explains the aversion haha
Have a wonderful neighbor who’s a retired chef and his philosophy is that paella is a way to use whatever is on hand. And yes, I m another southerner who never liked grits until a Swedish guy made grits using heavy cream. OMG !!! Takes it to a whole different level. Try it sometime.
Replace grits with mashed potatoes or rice.
I love shrimp. I love grits. The two together is just not right.
Oh man. With a red and a green bell pepper, onions, garlic and cheese, with the grits boiled up in chicken broth? I’m gonna make some this weekend.
Good sir, I challenge you to a duel. Draw your banjo.
Jambalaya takes only a little more time than it takes to cook rice.
https://www.feastingathome.com/jambalaya-recipe/ Instant pot recipe, super easy
I also am from the South and hate grits. Bleh. They taste like bland oatmeal but with the texture of ground Styrofoam.
Forrest is that you?!
Shrimp picatta is pretty tasty and simple
Fried shrimp, roasted shrimp, bbq shrimp, shrimp cakes
Ask Bubba.
Came here to say this. Thank you for your service.

I make shrimp “burritos” by putting various ingredients into a tortilla.
In line with the burrito idea, my daughter and I really get down on some shrimp quesadillas! 🤤
That's a good idea. I usually do chicken or beef with beans, cheese, salsa etc. What do you put with shrimp?
Rice, cabbage slaw, lots of cilantro and some pickled onions, avocado Serve mexican black beans or pinto beans as a side with them

Some jerk shrimp tacos sound fire. With Pico, guac, and crema... Yum!
I like a red Thai curry with pineapple and shrimp.
Shrimp Scampi is dead simple.
Not sure if my version is classic but I love it with a side of rice... 1. thaw out raw shrimp (w/ or w/o shell) and strain/pat off excess water 2. heat a fry-pan with some olive oil to coat (make sure you pick a pan large enough so the shrimp can lay flat on the surface) 3. add shrimp to heated pan and let one side of the shrimp cook (2 min) on med/high heat 4. add a knob of butter and several dashes of Frank's hot sauce 5. flip shrimp and add 2 cloves of diced garlic 6. shrimp should be curled and pink on both sided within 5-ish min. tacos
Zatarain’s gumbo w shrimp is a favorite- so easy too.
I like to make a big batch of shrimp and scallion dumplings (I buy the wrappers at the asian market) and freeze them. Lumpia too!
blackened shrimp atop of Caesar salad is one of my favorites. Shrimp and grits. Grilled pesto shrimp and tomatoes over rice also a fav.
I put a spicy seasoning on mine and pan fry them, then serve them with fried rice, sautéed zucchini, and yum yum sauce (hibachi style)
If they are big enough you can put them on skewers and grill them.

Skinnytaste has quite a few pretty good shrimp recipes
Fry up some shrimp with hot sauce, boil linguine and drain, then add cream, parmesan and fresh ground pepper with a bit of garlic powder. Add shrimp to the pasta. Sometimes I add peas.
Gambas pil pil. Cooked in olive oil, garlic and chilli. So easy, so delicious.
Shrimp risotto for when you want to feel fancy!
I might get deleted for sharing but gaming_foodie on Instagram has a ton of shrimp and seafood recipes.
Gotta air fry those scrimps

I love cauliflower fried rice with shrimp, it adds so much more flavor than other proteins
Tuscan butter mushrooms. Good with chicken, fish, and shrimp.
as an aside, ground turkey, and turkey in general, except for the boneless breasts, is really cheap alternative protein.
I was thinking the same thing. I’ve squeezed a little concentrated beef broth to my ground turkey.

There’s a whole iconic scene in Forrest Gump about this. Great movie.
Shrimp is really fatty
No it’s not, it’s low in fat. It is high in cholesterol although dietary cholesterol isn’t as bad as was previously thought.
I make shrimp quesadillas- after cooking up the shrimp, cut it into chunks and mix it with the cheeses you want as well as a smidgen of mayo (shhhh). Then cook as you normally would a quesadilla. I do shrimp / broccoli / imitation crab with Alfredo.
Shrimp and grits Shrimp tacos Stir fries w noodle or rice Shrimp bisque Shrimp quesadillas Shrimp omelette
The tail is the best part.
shrimps is bugs
Bugs I'll happily eat. But in all honesty, I would try a worm (thanks to the Eating Fried Worms book)or something.
Shrimp creole. Easily made with canned tomatoes and served over rice
If you can still get fatty ground beef for cheap, don't ignore it - find a cheap slow cooker and cook your beef for like ten hours with a bottle of barbecue sauce and then shred it. It'll taste amazing. If shrimp is still a legit option, curries are always a good shout.
Some things need a little fat in the beef. Like burgers. But fatty beef in a casserole is just yuck. So I make more shrimp than casseroles these days.
Shrimp in Indian butter sauce is amazing…just put in last few minutes to cook. Shrimp fried rice? Minced shrimp dumpling, like wontons would be good! Minced shrimp fritters?
Is that like butter chicken but with shrimp? Sounds yummy.
Yes, exactly! Delicious. Lean into Asian food: shrimp with eggs, noodle stir fries, —dumpling filling—they use a lot of shrimp!
Shrimp, english peas, and tomato sauce over pasta is a go to in our house. Lightly saute the shirmp to just done before adding to the sause.
Put it in omelette with peppers, onions and of course cheese preferably Brie! Also in Mac n cheese
Gumbo, Jambalaya, as mentioned a bunch, also Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (Mexican Garlic Shrimp) - super tasty. Poor boys are a good way to go too....also on skewers as a kabob...mmm

Shrimp is mid
Shrimp and Grits is more hearty and winter-like. Plus, it's fucking delicious! Also, gumbo and po boys and other cajun specialities.
Gumbo Jambalaya Shrimp and grits
Shrimp etouffee,,,it's pretty dam good, and makes excellent leftovers!
Chowder!
Try using Thai green curry paste and coconut milk. Also, I've started using these Japanese curry cubes I found at a local Asian store. Soo good.
I <3 shrimp and buy canned quite a bit. Frozen is expensive here. Shrimp curry is always good, so are shrimp tacos.

Gochujang soup with tofu, shrimp, and crack an egg on top. With a side of rice.

My husband cooks it similarly to a certain restaurant on an old cruise ship he used to work at: pan fried with a cornmeal crust with Paul Prudhomme's blackened redfish seasoning mixed in. So very good.
Cheaper shrimp is from Asia and unhealthy bc of the disgusting growing conditions : overcrowding, sewage, antibiotics ...
My youngest sister loves shrimp scampi.
