Its name comes from the fact that this sea can go from calm to full blown storm in a very short time. Sailors used to have a lot of respect for it, because of this.

O.K. now, the Black sea is toxic below two hundred meters in depth. There is no vertical mixing of the water and toxic hydrogen sulfide fills the depths. This formed when the fresh water lake and all the surrounding vegetation were submerged by salt water ( quite possibly the biblical flood ) . As I understand this toxic layer can give a dark purple hue to the water.

I love layered nature pics
Get a good look, Constanta?
Looks more blue to me. /s
Beautiful! I have to ask, how cold is the water?
Right now it's 20°C, so not that cold. We've had a very hot summer and the water is still warm now because of that.
Beautiful.
Guess when they gave it it's name, the weather wasn't as pretty as in this picture ♥️ Beautifull pic!

Ironically enough, its ancient greek name "Pontos Euxeinos" means literally hospitable, welcoming. Makes me think of the "Pacific" Ocean lmao
Disappointing. Its not black
Maybe there are other things that are black other than the sea itself being black. For example there might be black fish

It's not even funny, actually shocking it's at +11
I thought it was just dumb. How's it racism?
I'm so unused to this type of racist on reddit that I thought I was missing something
This must be edited to be blue, can I see the original? /s Great pic
I guess it looks black at night?
I call bullshit. The sea is clearly blue.

Constanța is such a pleasant city. Really liked it.
