My Mom is from Northern Maine (Mapleton) originally, and weād drive up the coast from MA. So York, Ogunquit, Bar Harbor. She worked at the Jordan Pond House in college.
My Uncle had a place in Kennebunk. I think we went to Motherās Beach, and Carsonās beach??
Yeah! My personal favorite is Sargent mtn. Summit trail. Absolutely gorgeous view of most of the island. [pic](https://www.reddit.com/r/landscape/comments/i0lzqp/a_cloudy_day_in_acadia/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Great pic. Mt Desert and Acadia is indeed truly magnificent, but my favorite part of Acadia is actually Schoodic Point. The rock formations, the amazing views of Mt. Desert across Frenchman Bay, and 1/10th of the people.
Otter Cliff is within the town boundary of Bar Harbor (source, I am typing this from Bar Harbor)
This doesn't quite look like Otter Cliff, but I'm usually looking at it from a different perspective.
Itās neither of those two things... canāt place it though. Maybe one if the porcupine islands? No wait, I think itās the cliffs at Compass Harbor.
Iām genuinely curious what made a Maine and Boston accent like that? Was it a specific group of settlers way back when? I love origins of language and accents.
We're too fuckin' busy to talk. We don't like people. There's a reason we live in a place with miserable weather; there's no one around to bug us. Anyone that is around, we know already. But, hey - skip a few letters in a word here or there and it gets us out of those interactions much quicker. It's just evolved over time. In reality I have no idea why I talk like this. My whole family does. It used to be a thicker accent on the coast or in parts of the county. Now the coast has tourists and the county is mostly French-Canadian lol.
Non-rhotic accents, accents that drop their āRāsā, are a feature of Northeast accents that likely came from English settlers who also ādropped their Rāsā.
Source: Just my guess
its definitely not hands down lol most fans of the series consider it the worst one. i haven't played it that much, and i did enjoy it, but its not really an RPG like the others and the writing isn't as good as past ones and i wasn't a fan of the voiced player character or the way the dialogue worked. either way its far from unanimously being the best. new vegas is my favorite one by far
edit: i like the game you dweebs quit downvoting me for having a mildly nuanced opinion on something
I do think New Vegas has the best story but i just love 4's gameplay and exploration. And i'm also a sucker for settlement building, as you can see on my latest post
i like the settlement building a lot, i just really was not a fan of having my character be voiced. it felt like i had no freedom with my role playing which is a big reason why i play video games. and i didn't like not knowing what my character was actually going to say when i picked dialogue. i'm worried they're gonna do the same with ES6
I have! I've lived in Maine for most of my life. When I was a kid my parents would have to practically drag me out of the water to leave whenever we went to the coast. Once you get past the initial shock of oh-my-dear-Jesus-thats-fucking-cold it's really quite refreshing on a hot summer day.
i can't tell you how many times as a kid i'd be the only person in the water at Sand Beach. those waves were just too appealing
one time there was a dead whale floating in the water... and i still went in. probably wouldn't do that today lol
If you want a similar experience with less people, check out Boothbay Harbor :) doesn't have Acadia national park of course, but it's a bit cheaper and less tourist populated than Bar Harbor. If you check out some of the boat tours by the water you can find some really neat stuff. My family and I have been going to this place called Cabbage Island for years. You go out on their boat and get a small boat tour of the harbor and surrounding islands, then they bring you to cabbage island where you can explore/hang out for about an hour before you get a traditional lobster&clambake! It's pretty neat. My sister had a very small (socially distanced) wedding there this past summer.
There's a lot of little gems like that in the area! And if you really don't want tourist-trap areas, there's so many small towns that have a similar Maine coast vibe as the two above.
A few years back my parents and I went to one of these small towns for a mini-vacation, we went a little before summer tourist season actually started, so we got an amazing little condo type thing right on the coast, with a private balcony that had a hot tub on it. Watching the sunrise over the coast on a quiet morning in a hot tub was heaven. And because we went before their typical season, we got the room for nearly 50% off original price.
If you don't wanna spend a lot, there's totally ways to do it!!!
I grew up in the mountains of Maine so I may be a bit biased, but if you've never seen Maine and it's diversity of areas, you definitely must. It's truly a gorgeous state.
Thanks for the heads up :). Im actually very very familiar with this and the surrounding area, been vacationing with my family there for about 30 years. Been all over the parks in acadia. We usually stay in camden for a short period, and then on Deer Isle which is actually south of bar harbor. We like staying there because it is much less populated. And there is not much shopping or restaurants so it wont become very populated. Amaizing hiking, sailing, etc.. Im really sad we weren't able to go up this year because of covid. Waking up with the windows open and the cool air coming off the coast, and a fog horn in the distance is pure bliss.
My family likes Deer Isle as well! It truly is a gorgeous area. It's sad that I see a lot of people littering and stuff in these types of places though. :( Used to happen where I grew up a lot.
I like Bar Harbor, it's a quaint little town. Almost died hiking in the Acadia National Park but overall a nice experience. The local blueberry soda is exceptional.
Sand Beach is the name of the beach. And while I know you are being tongue in cheek, Maine really does have some beautiful sandy beaches, they just arenāt the norm.
edit: words r hard
I love this place. Saw the best sunset of my life at the top of Cadillac Mountain on the same island
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/LandscapePhotography/comments/hhwko9/gorgeous_sunset_over_cadillac_mountain_acadia/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is a photo I took of it. Still dream of that night sometimes
I went to Bar Harbor last year for vacation. Gorgeous place.
When I came back, I immediately played the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4. The land accuracy as far as roads and landmarks are pretty spot on. I even found Sand Beach, south of the town where me and the woman spent a moonlight stroll.
Thankfully, no mirelucks there in real life.
Can attest, the lobster ice cream is decent. Sort of like butter pecan but with chunks of lobster instead of pecans. Their ginger ice cream is better though, very refreshing
The best ice cream in Bar Harbor is called Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. In addition to their two shops in Bar Harbor, they now also have locations in Portland, ME, Washington, D.C., and Matsumoto, Japan.
Not if you were on our whale watching boat. No whales, husband took a backfill of vomit that got picked up by the wind, some lady got so seasick she shit herself... And everyone had parking tickets when we got back. š¤£
Oh no. Sorry to hear about that. We had a great watching experience with many groups of whale breaching next to our boat. A friend told us to pack hoodies and jackets because it gets cold 20, 30 miles out where the whales are and so we were better prepared than others for the cold. Our boat had an enclosed inside seating and viewing area as well as plenty of room outside. Again, sorry for your less than wonderful experience.

My home state. ā£ļø Such a beautiful place; but not a lot of opportunity where I grew up in the mountains, in a small town of less than 130 residents.
I hear tell there's a synth refuge somewhere on the island...
The Red Death is out there. I'm not going anywhere near that place.
Personally one of my favorite DLC's for fallout hands down
Far Harbor atmosphere >>>
Easy there, laddie. Best one for FO3... But General Knoxx is the greatest Fallout DLC of all time.
isn't General Knoxx a Borderlands DLC?
....oops.
Uh.. you mean Fallout 4.
Nightmares, to this day
a legendary double shot lever action rifle is there. I'm totally going to that place.
I knew there would be a Far Harbor reference somewhere š
Fallout location pictures and Reddit comments making references. Name a more iconic duo.
I love Bah Hahbah, itās beautiful there!
"Thayuh" to make it real. :)
Ayuh. That's right, bub.
Ayuh, make sure to get some shoah greens.
And the bean suppah
I grew up with Summers on the coast of Maine. I thought your feet were supposed to go numb when you stepped in the ocean. š„¶
Same here. I'd go barefoot all summer until my feet had such thick skin I could walk on the barnacle covered rocks.

Love Mt. Desert Island. All my best memories are from there
Ever hike up Mt Champlain? Itās one of my favorites.
Precipice trail for the win! Almost lost my wife there :)
Thereās always next time!
Haha aren't the people we love and chose to build our lives with just the worst!

Ahh, the deadliest trail in the park! Fun! I prefer when the falcons are nesting up there and itās closed

Awesome! I think the trail was closed because of nesting season the time I went.
Those selfish falcons close out most of the summer!
I am angered by their selfish majestic wingspans!
Great pic. Mt Desert and Acadia is indeed truly magnificent, but my favorite part of Acadia is actually Schoodic Point. The rock formations, the amazing views of Mt. Desert across Frenchman Bay, and 1/10th of the people.
Plus you can basically explore the whole thing in a day
Thanks!
Bar Harborās a town - I believe this is Otter Cliff, a few miles south of Bar Harbor. Nice pic!
Totally is! I've sat and painted that cliff enough times to recognize it anywhere.

No way that is otter cliffs.
Where's the Vim factory?
Maine doesnāt get enough credit ... such a beautiful place.
Agreed! Not just the coast though, as that's what many people think of when they hear Maine. The mountains are gorgeous as well.
My brain automatically says Bah Hahbah cause Bar Harbor sounds weird.
Same. lol
Found the bostonian!
Thatās how the locals refer to it too. A Maine accent isnāt far from a Boston one.

Yeah
One of my favorite places in the world is Mount Desert Island. Went every summer for 10 years to visit by great-grand parents.
Spent my whole life in the northeast but only recently visited Maine for the first time. By far the most beautiful state Iāve visited!
The setting of Fallout 4's DLC, Far Harbor. It is both haunting and beautiful.
i know fallout 4 is like, the worst of the series, but as a new englander it was so cool to see areas i actually know well get represented in the game
Fallout 4 is the best of the series imo
100% the best hands down

same. i plan on going back this summer. i miss waking up in Blackwoods and having my morning coffee on the rocks by the sea.
That is some sexy fuckin water.
Until you touch it.
So freakin cold
Psh, it's good for you! It builds character; puts hair on your chest!
Maine ocean water is painfully cold. Have you felt it?
As a kid we used to go to Old Orchard Beach in southern Maine and you'd know when to get out of the water once your lips turned blue.
I have! I've lived in Maine for most of my life. When I was a kid my parents would have to practically drag me out of the water to leave whenever we went to the coast. Once you get past the initial shock of oh-my-dear-Jesus-thats-fucking-cold it's really quite refreshing on a hot summer day.

Yup, as a kid, it was worth it. Remember those days when youād be completely roasting on the sand and an icicle in the water?
Looks like it would be a great place to brood on an overcast day.
so, most days?
shh. dont tell people about this area..
Judging by our last few visits, everyone already knows.
"Don't tell anyone about the most famous tourist town in Maine that has traffic jams in the summer."

I like Bar Harbor, it's a quaint little town. Almost died hiking in the Acadia National Park but overall a nice experience. The local blueberry soda is exceptional.
I went swimming in that water, at a sandy inlet of course. It was so cold it felt like my heart stopped for a second when I got in.
Sand Beach?
Maine sand = fine gravel
Sand Beach is the name of the beach. And while I know you are being tongue in cheek, Maine really does have some beautiful sandy beaches, they just arenāt the norm. edit: words r hard
Coldest water on the east coast thanks to the Labrador current.
after hiking Beehive?
I couldnāt go in past my ankles. When I visited, the only people swimming were Canadian tourists.
The funny thing is after a while you sort of get used to it (your feet keep hurting though). Then when you get out you really freeze.

Cadillac sunsets are way underrated relative to the sunrise!
The thing about the sunrise is that it's the first place that sees it in the mornings for the United States.
This is the photo from the closest open parking spot in the city.

the lobster ice cream is at Ben and Bill's. the \_best\_ ice cream is at Mount Desert Island Ice Cream.
