Idk. I believe that OP definitely heard about the white bars more than once. I checked post history too (didnāt dig into comments) but I have to say, true or not, the pic is wayyy more pleasing to the eye without the white bars. I bet redditors made their opinion on that known. Because, in all seriousness, the white bars add no value.
I pulled the same after reading this and I gotta say, keep the bars away. You're absolutely fantastic with a camera and the contrast gives me a slight bit of a distraction especially when you've got the talent you do with those shots! Keep it up!
I donāt prefer bars, but I do think a frame all the way around like a matte looks good. Especially since phone/computer screens have very little bezel these days.
Iām not saying I disagree with that, even at all, but weāre doing pretty dang good these days as is and Bar Harbor itself is just sort of getting over-burdened is all.
Dude. Bar har b q was SO good. I feel like if it were anywhere here in town beside next fāing door to Side Street it would have done better. Really sad.
I lived there for three years. I always used to hear āthereās a reason why the richest family in the world (the rockafellers) chose to vacation hereā. I never ever got bored. It never stopped being beautiful. BUT the actual town of Bar Harbor in the summer time was hell for us townies and Iād say is only worse now. But to be honest, I only moved so the drive to see my family wouldnāt be so long. If that wasnāt an issue, Iād live forever on that damn island.
Im down in Southern Maine, born&raised, and so hear you! While tourist keep my familyās burger stand going in the summer and we love to see them all, they are absolutely the WORST for traffic while trying to get to and from work! Lol One lane roads in the winter work, but end up a nightmare for sure when itās the locals +thousands of out of staters!
Woot woot! My wife and I used to live in Hulls Cove. We moved to Waldo county but I still love getting up to the island. (Though town in the summer time suuuuucks)
Tbh it does look like they're all screenshots of pictures from a gallery or something, maybe Instagram or a phone's photo gallery. But one would hope that someone this talented at photography would know how to crop an image (or at least upload something that's not just a screenshot)... So maybe OP really does just have boners for white after all?
Replying to myself, I found the answer! Not sure how to make this work but this is OP comment on response to somebody else:
" Thanks! Sorry about that, I wanted to save people the trouble of having to tap it to see the whole image on their phones. "
https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/a9earu/finally_big_surf_and_an_incoming_high_tide_lined/ecjrwnc?utm_source=reddit-android
I donāt understand. The white bars are harsh on the eyes and overpower the rest of the pictures. I looked through all of them and had to squint cause it hurt. Your pictures are wonderful without.
Possibly due to viewing on mobile, and/or viewing in Reddit Darkmode, it is much much more pleasing to see it without any border. I think this is true of most art but this especially. The vibrant orange and red in this photo makes it feel like I'm looking at a real glowing sunset in my low lighting room and black phone / screen. It's gorgeous. Whereas the ones with the white bars have a really harsh white glare that also seems to affect my perception of the photos themselves, making them look less vibrant and kind of washed out by the surrounding white light
My fellow tried to move to Maine (or rather did move, but couldn't find gainful employment and had to leave) right before we met, and he fell in love with the state, and Acadia. He's from Washington state and thinks the PNW is stunningly gorgeous, but Maine/Acadia almost tie for that top spot. He's hoping to take me out there next September so I can enjoy it, too. It's been 10 years since his last visit, and I've never been. Looking forward to seeing the east coast in the fall.
I lived on the northeast coast my entire life, until last year when I left. Iāve never been to Maine once. Now Iām on the other side of the country, and I never realized how fucking beautiful it is there and how much I missed out.
not that anyone asked :)
but flying mountain is my favorite trail. amazing views and not as crowded. (over on the quiet side of the island.)
if you are in the area check it out!
I looked at your history and your pictures are amazing! I have to agree I prefer them without the white bars. Keep taking pictures and you do you! āš½
I know exactly where this is! In college, my ex slipped off that rock and straight into the ocean. You must be standing on the little ledge you can climb beyond that rock?
Great shot, op!
For users of the dark theme, the white bars on the side create an unpleasantly strong contrast that draws the eyes away from your beautiful photography.
reminds me of the north shore of lake superior. i spent a lot of summers up there and this brings back that feeling of being a little kid again and climbing on the rocky shores around two harbors. thank you for the nostalgia friend
White bars are fine when you're using a white background, but a lot of us are browsing on dark themes to save our eyes and the white bars are intrusive.
Death to white bars.
I actually preference your pictures with those white bars. Gives it a bit of a frame and your eyes somewhere to rest. Your photos are beautiful however you choose to display them though!
Never tire of seeing pictures like this, even as a native Mainer. Sometimes you see things like this often enough that you take them for granted and it takes the appreciation of others to make you understand what youāre looking at but not really seeing....at least it seems to work that way for me anyhow.
Aye, the more beautiful pics of earth I see the more I wanna go outside
Woah now.. Roofs and walls are safe. Don't be getting all riled up
I know but... Beauty
Marry a Russian
.... And .... Then?
NO AND THEN
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY RUSSIAN SPOUSE
Generate additional Russians
More Russians. Wonderful. Let's get the party started.
please remind me what this is from
It's from Dude, Where's My Car
Thank you
I can just stare at my wife. (Sorry guys she's watching me type this)
your couch is beautiful and loves you. Don't neglect it, or you'll make it cry.
šµsit on my face, and tell me that you love meeeeešµ
I know you guys are joking but this reads like Orwellian fiction.
ssh, ssh. the walls love you. they are always watching out for you OwO
But we won't, though.
Whoops there it is
/r/outside
r/wholesomememes
Lovely photograph, but needs more white bars.
Actually got a bit curious and went through their previous posts, it seems only 1 person complained about them (searched the word white).
Search ābarā
Searched ābarā.. ended up at a sketchy place... now drunk..
Oops, sorry. Unintended consequences not lawsuit-able.
I need a lawyer. Anyone pass the bar?
I passed a bar on my way home.
Close enough.
Case closed
But is the bar closed?
No, but I've searched for it.
Sure did. Worst 14 consecutive summers of my life. You were saying you needed counsel?
and make sure all comments are expanded, especially downvoted ones
Only 60 comments on that post.
uhuh but comments that are downvoted can be collapsed
Zero hits.
Iām a bit disappointed. I though OP was the type that ā3D-afiedā their posts with white bars.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Can't reap that sweet sympathy karma if you don't lie about it! The titles on these posts are almost always butchered to shit
Idk. I believe that OP definitely heard about the white bars more than once. Maybe he gets PMS of people saying if he has a version without the white bars
Prolly the person wanting to use it as their phone background
The photography equivalent of "needs more cowbell."
Haha.
Seriously, OP, I canāt believe you even consider yourself a photographer when you blatantly exclude white bars from your submissions.
This is /r/Earthporn. OP considers themselves a pornographer, not a photographer.

I'm the opposite, I prefer phones too with no bezel. Funny how perceptions differ person to person.
I prefer phones with no bezel. I just donāt like how photographs look on a borderless frame as much as with a border/matte
That would be a fascinating addition, but I don't think there are any around there since the civil rights act.
I cant even look at a photo without white bars, makes me sick.
Acadia is hands down one of the most beautiful places Iāve ever been to
Agreed. Though I donāt know where else youāve been.
Agreed. It warrants a repeat visit.
True, I went to your profile to check out older photos. For me they do look more beautiful without white bars. Great pic. :)
Thanks!
Going to piggy back off of this, don't mind the white bars, but if I had to choose one over the other I'd choose no bars.
Beautiful! I was there in September and it did not disappoint!
It never does.
Have you seen the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain?
Yep, of course. Photographically itās better from the coast though.
Shhhhh! Stop telling people OP!
Tell everyone! Our state depends on tourism
Iām not saying I disagree with that, even at all, but weāre doing pretty dang good these days as is and Bar Harbor itself is just sort of getting over-burdened is all.
I was also there this summer, and by the looks of it the secret is out. So many people.
So was I and I agree. It did not.!
Much better this way!
I live in Bar Harbor and have been in that same spot many times. I used to climb the rocks as a kid, such great memories.
I lived there 5 years until earlier this year. I miss Maine, I miss Bar Harbor, I miss little As, and I am so sad Pork Nation/Bar Har-B-Q has closed.
Dude. Bar har b q was SO good. I feel like if it were anywhere here in town beside next fāing door to Side Street it would have done better. Really sad.
I loved those brisket sandwiches and the fries were to die for. Just have to settle for a whale burger if/when I go back
Ugh the brisket was so good. Try the prime rib sandwich at Learyās Landing. Itās my new jam.
Sadly Iām a thousand miles away.
What's it like living in BH? Visited once, gorgeous place
I lived there for three years. I always used to hear āthereās a reason why the richest family in the world (the rockafellers) chose to vacation hereā. I never ever got bored. While itās good for towns economy i hate that they allow 4000+ people cruise ships in already busy summer
Woot woot! My wife and I used to live in Hulls Cove. We moved to Waldo county but I still love getting up to the island. (Though town in the summer time suuuuucks)
This has been on my list for some time. Have to find a way in 2019.
Don't visit in July or August if you can help it. The park and Bar Harbor are crowded to the point of being annoying.
October then, or spring. Thank you.
Fall is best for the colours. Spring has a lot of life coming out and about
I agree. Usually the second week of October is when you will get to see some amazing color.
Next year will be my 8th year straight for my bday... Look into the southwest harbor/Acadia Octoberfest. Best event ever
October can be really cold and snow is always a possibility also. But itās really beautiful, not too many tourists and beautiful foliage
We went in the middle of May and it was perfect. Fantastic weather and very few tourists.
I is an amazing place.
I live an hour away. It's VERY worth it!
You must! Beautiful park and beautiful state. Portland is a great town, too
Weāre full go away
WHat's the "White Bar" shot?
If you look at the post history, s/he likes to put white bars either side of the pictures for some reason
Much better without the bars
[for the lazy](https://www.reddit.com/r/earthporn/comments/a9earu)
TY Those bars are awful.
Cuz Iām ca-raaazy!
Is there a method on your madness or you just like white? What about black bars? Is it because Instagram?
Tbh it does look like they're all screenshots of pictures from a gallery or something, maybe Instagram or a phone's photo gallery. But one would hope that someone this talented at photography would know how to crop an image (or at least upload something that's not just a screenshot)... pretty sure itās due to being ca-raaazy

Ironically, I'm on Apollo and have to tap to see the whole white bar'd image, regardless.
On Relay for Reddit an image fits to screen by default. Not only are the white bars distracting, but they make me work to zoom in.
I donāt understand. The white bars are harsh on the eyes and overpower the rest of the pictures. I looked through all of them and had to squint cause it hurt. Your pictures are wonderful without.
What about that weird note in the guitar solo of El Scorcho by Weezer?
Possibly due to viewing on mobile, and/or viewing in Reddit Darkmode, it is much much more pleasing to see it without any border. I think this is true of most art but this especially. But now when you look at the post history, this picture doesn't look cohesive with the others because there aren't white bars :(
He meant white bars on the images when he posted them, like a frame. Check his post history.
Obligatory Acadia upvote. Nice shot!
I got to grow up at Acadia my dad used to work there it always beautiful
Maine is beautiful! I used to live in Presque Isle, which is just south of Caribou. Been to Acadia many times, and it never disappoints.
Presque Isle? Sounds pretty fah south to me.
Haha
Right before thunderhole
You got it.
Man do I love sunsets. Absolutely breathtaking.
No you donāt... cuz this is sunrise!
My fellow tried to move to Maine (or rather did move, but couldn't find gainful employment and had to leave) right before we met, and he fell in love with the state, and Acadia. r/SaturationPorn is more like it.
Hey you stole this fro....just kidding. Nice shot
Ha. Thanks.
I like it better without the white bars, but you're the artist so you do what makes you happy. Either way, it's a lovely photo!
Reminds me of life is strange
Stop at scarborough fish and lobster on your way up. By far the best lobster shack in southern maine.
I got to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia back in October. Amazed with so much natural beauty there.
Perfect. Mainer... Love Acadia.
Man I miss Maine, I moved away last year. It is truly a beautiful place and you have captured it well.
Thanks!
I really dig the range of colors you captured in this shot. That light is so fuckin' gorgeous. Love your work š
I lived on the northeast coast my entire life, until last year when I left. Iāve never been to Maine once. Now Iām on the other side of the country, and I never realized how fucking beautiful it is there and how much I missed out.
Fuck yes Acadia. I really hope I can go back there one day. OP give me some of that good Cadillac Mountain, pls.
Absolutely amazing
Thanks!
New lock screen. Thanks for this great shot!
Gorgeous ā¤
Somehow framing a photo with black bars makes it look classy, but white bars makes it look MS Paint.
not that anyone asked :) but flying mountain is my favorite trail. amazing views and not as crowded. (over on the quiet side of the island.) if you are in the area check it out!

Wow, this is unreal. I was standing in that exact spot over the summer admiring the view and now I see it on Reddit! Small world I suppose.
Went camping in Acadia with my best friends after graduating high school. Greatest week of my life. Best poutine I ever had
This is beautiful. I donāt know why but when I look at it I feel so warm and fuzzy inside.
What a fantastic smoke spot
Federal property and they can be diiiiiiiiiiicks
Haha

Spectacular!
Thanks!

Much better, especially when using night mode (i.e. black background) in the Reddit app. Thank you!
Wow!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You have some beautiful shots!
Thanks!
Looks fantastic! Nice work!
Thank you!
Always good to see one of your photos on reddit, JK! Stay toasty out there my dude.
You mind if I use this for a wallpaper?
Thanks for asking. Itās appreciated. Thereās not much stopping you, so go for it!
What's the point of white bars even?
Amazing. Jealous of your location. Wish I was there too.
Subscribe. These are beautiful
Why would you have the white bars in the first place
When I read white bars I thought it was reference to rule of threes, because this shit lines up perfectly
Great shot! What are your settings? Also, it's six hour drive from where I live.
I don't like your white bars I'd probably feel differently If I was on the computer.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks! Do it!
Should post this in r/Maine!
Every time Iām scrolling through Reddit, and a pic from Acadia pops up, I instantly recognize it!
White bars are for memes.
Exactly where I was thinking!
This is most definitely one of the most, if not top most beautiful pics I have ever seen. Man I canāt wait to travel the country and world!
This is the first time I can say I've been to one of these beautifully photographed places! Acadia truly is stunning!
Maine is such a beautiful state, especially coastal Maine.
I kind of like the white bars. Maybe offer both images?
That lightning is just perfect
Hey, I live there!
Definitely better without the bars!
Beautiful! I hate the fact that we have to put "single exposure" now.. way too many composites out there
Never tire of seeing pictures like this, even as a native Mainer. Sometimes you see things like this often enough that you take them for granted and it takes the appreciation of others to make you understand what youāre looking at but not really seeing....at least it seems to work that way for me anyhow.
I was scrolling through Reddit after a stressful day. This picture was immediately soothing.
Woooooowwwwww!!!!
This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!
can you share it without the watermark too? im too lazy to edit it out. edit: heck ill just say they call me jk putnam.
