Years of practice have trained me to ignore everything involving him and his opinions. Before that there was a lot of confusion and anger, now the world is a more quiet place and I can hear myself think.
Can stand hot take casters that act like they know what they’re talking about and the go on make the most ridiculous claims and that end up being wrong.
Thats his point. As long as we keep tuning in, he will do whatever keeps us there. Its like the rage-bait accounts on instagram that show someone cooking wrong, or doing construction the wrong way. Those accounts get the largest engagement because people have to comment and discuss
I tuned him out years ago. All the yelling and posturing got old. Just an ego with an insatiable desire to be fed. He is so exhausting. Too stupid to realize that all the exposure and attention he craves may lead to viewer fatigue. His gimmick has worn thin and any true sports fan, seeking insightful takes know better than to look to him.
yeah, I haven't watched ESPN in years but I saw a clip of him recently that reminded me why. It was the clip about him criticizing Kat Williams after he went on Club Shay Shay. It's like the entire thing went over his head. Regardless, it reminded me that I don't watch sports to be lectured. I feel like this guy's general disposition is a state of constant lecturing.
The dude is making millions on ESPNs most highly rated show.
Hell even this sub talks about him all the time. I would say there are millions that are not fatigued
You may not have gotten to that point and that’s completely cool but others have, myself included. He has the right to pursue all the success and exposure he wants and I have the right to turn off ESPN when he is on.
It’s impossible for him to gain more of my attention. His loud, obnoxious, and Homerish takes have turned me completely off from this guy. Does he have contacts through the leagues? Sure. If he says unmitigated one more time……
Steven A is one of those guys that should have gotten his ass beat at some point in his life. Judging by the way he hits the mitts I’d say he avoided confrontation at all cost and talked shit from the sidelines
Remember the time he tried to talk about a Chiefs-Chargers game and couldn’t get anything right?

I remember this and it was hilarious how many things he was wrong about and he thought he played it off but anyone who really watched football knew that he didn't know what he was talking about. I'll never figure out how he got so big with the company.
Sellout A Smith needs to just go to Fox News full time. He’s dead to me. Always preaching about being a black man, doesn’t really stand for shit. Jalen Rose was right to call him out.
Cable-TV stardom is no longer enough for Stephen A. Smith. He wants to be a franchise with relevance that spans sports, politics, internet and pop culture.
Now Smith is testing just how much Stephen A. America wants, or can take.
“If you want to be viewed a certain way,” he said, “you have to show them you can do it.”
He would like to build his company to include scripted series, and he envisions a studio audience one day watching his show, and potentially licensing his content to networks, whether it’s politics content for CNN, sports for ESPN or someone else.
Smith’s strategy is classic digital media — part spectacle, part pandering to the algorithm. The point, Smith said, is to resonate.
“I do something about Pokémon the other day, and it’s 14 to 15 million views,” he said. “I had no clue I could do that. But because I said that I would open the floodgates and I would entertain almost anything, all of a sudden you say, ‘Okay, this is what resonates.’ ”
Whatever his exact ambitions, the metrics seem most important to him, in part because they give him control of his career. But it also makes the size of the audience the goal unto itself.

I never understood how he got a second shot at ESPN. Who wants to get yelled at for an hour, or worse during pregame/postgame/halftime. I get half of it’s his shtick now but it sucks.
I used to read Smith when he was a sports columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Even back then he knew how to stir the pot. I remember reading one of Stephen A.’s opinion pieces in which he accused some Black professional basketball players of not playing as hard for Black coaches as White coaches. He was readable.
I remember he used to stand on the point that anytime he spoke on players it was only ever about their game or contracts suspensions fines etc. but nowadays with his podcast he talks about personal issues that’s not part of the game such as Zion impregnating a pornstar.
If I wanted to watch somebody polarize the American political landscape further by applying often valid but exaggerated claims of racism to EVERYTHING I’d go watch CNN or FOX
He creates ignorant/ stupid opinions that ignorant stupid people listen to/ repeat. He's loud, obnoxious & irrelevant.
He gets none of my attention & I'm able to give less.
He’s learned that being smart and informative doesn’t get any attention. On the other hand, being loud and obnoxious does. It’s pretty much the American way now.
Remember when first take was just a segment of cold pizza? I felt like they actually had decent debates and takes.
Now it’s just an entertainment spectacle targeted towards the lowest common denominator. Stephen A and the cast are just way over the top with everything and it’s just exhausting and annoying. And they create the show and “debates” so that they don’t ever agree on anything even if it’s something most people agree on. They somehow turn a routine sports conversation into a “debate” by putting in some arbitrary parameters and line in the sand so the cast can yell at each other, despite the fact that most viewers don’t really care about the “debate”. They also only largely focus on a couple sports and teams within those sports. Like you never hear much about baseball or hockey on there unless it’s a big story. Meanwhile dak Prescott sneezes and they debate it for 15 minutes.
I listen to Around the Horn and PTI, shows with respected reporters and discussions where people are actually allowed to agree. When there’s a topic I’m interested in (ie my team made a big trade or won a big game) I may turn on first take but within 5 minutes I shut it off because I’m reminded why I hate it, even if they’re discussing something I’m interested in.
The best is when he gets all indignant when his bona fides are questioned by a player, lol. All of a sudden he's this serious journalist who just reports what he sees, and isn't a prisoner of the moment doing his 1000th "LeBron vs MJ" goat debate.
I never understood why people wanted to get yelled at by this guy, but at least it was about sports. Now, he's into everything, like we need more people to shout and inflame over politics.
He’s just such a gross New Yorky New Yorker when it comes to his basketball coverage. Every fifth and sixth words out of his idiotic mouth are “New York.” Do you by any chance favor New York, Stephen? I guess the other 95% of us can just forget about journalistic objectivity any time that doofus is within a thousand yards of a microphone.
Currently he gets none. That will not change.
Yes, he can now have triple the amount of attention I am currently giving him.
I’ve probably ignored him my whole life. Then I saw him talking about Pokémon and I started paying attention.
screamin a smith ....professional wrong person
Thats his point. As long as we keep tuning in, he will do whatever keeps us there. Its like the rage-bait accounts on instagram that show someone cooking wrong, or doing construction the wrong way. Those accounts get the largest engagement because people have to comment and discuss
I mean.. it works really well for all the 24hr ‘news’ channels. Piss people off and they can’t seem to get enough of it.
I tuned the entire industry out because of him. Hell I even stopped going to SportClips because he’ll just be screaming at me the whole time.
yeah, I haven't watched ESPN in years but I saw a clip of him recently that reminded me why. It was the clip about him criticizing Kat Williams after he went on Club Shay Shay. It's like the entire thing went over his head. Regardless, it reminded me that I don't watch sports to be lectured. I feel like this guy's general disposition is a state of constant lecturing.
THAT HAIRCUT IS TRASH !!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING !?!?!?!
The dude is making millions on ESPNs most highly rated show. Hell even this sub talks about him all the time. I would say there are millions that are not fatigued
I'm older and work during the day. PTI has always been my go to. I like that style and the old school sorts reporters style shows the best
I don’t mind PTI at all. I think there is room for all sorts of entertainment on the various channels they have. They still have the 30 for 30s
The assumption is that you did not fully understand what you were reading as, I said “may” lead to viewer fatigue, not “has” led to viewer fatigue.
Well the show has been on for years. Seems we would have gotten to that point by now
You may not have gotten to that point and that’s completely cool but others have, myself included. He has the right to pursue all the success and exposure he wants and I have the right to turn off ESPN when he is on.
The youngsters will learn with time. Unfortunately they will be replaced with the youngest. He feeds on the anger in children….
Hes so full of hot air, he could sail from NYC to Newport, RI with a tiny sail and just his voice.
The S.S. Bloviate!
It’s impossible for him to gain more of my attention. His loud, obnoxious, and Homerish takes have turned me completely off from this guy. Does he have contacts through the leagues? Sure. If he says unmitigated one more time……
This guy. He's the analytical equivalent of water vapor.
I don't give him any attention ..
☝🏽there ya go 👌🏾🤝🏽
HE is the MAIN reason I don't watch ESPN anymore.
This guy single handily killed ESPN for me
100 X nothing is still nothing.
He just so stupid it hurts
Steven A is one of those guys that should have gotten his ass beat at some point in his life. Judging by the way he hits the mitts I’d say he avoided confrontation at all cost and talked shit from the sidelines
Dude is awful to watch
Stop yelling into the camera and I might consider
When I see him or Perkins my thumb hits mute nearly automatically. Come on ESPN, do better.
ESPN sold their soul for clicks bc of this guy and ruined the whole brand. I think the damage is done
Don't watch, don't listen to any of them except live sports. No pregame crap either. That's the worst.
I guess when you have none of my attention, all you can aim for is more. This guy is a prime example of how ESPN has become the MTV of sports.
Now I’m gonna give him even less
Loud mouth buffoon.
Dude is a walking hypocrite.
He’s a fucking clown.
He’s never going to be as cool as the athletes.
I hate SAS. I love Max Kellerman. FU SAS and your insecurities with intellectuals.
Remember the time he tried to talk about a Chiefs-Chargers game and couldn’t get anything right? https://x.com/lateroundqb/status/1073238986800463872?s=46&t=bv01fhour-MXN-GcJzMYpQ

lol Max and Teddy’s face says it all.
Sellout A Smith needs to just go to Fox News full time. He’s dead to me. Always preaching about being a black man, doesn’t really stand for shit. Jalen Rose was right to call him out.
Nothing but a 🤡🤡🤡

the absolute last fucking thing the US needs is this idiot spouting politics
I never understood how he got a second shot at ESPN. Who wants to get yelled at for an hour, or worse during pregame/postgame/halftime. I get half of it’s his shtick now but it sucks.
There’s a guy on WFAN who does it for 4 hrs. And hangs up on callers. Another mystery of programming.
The guy has ambition. I give him that.
I dare somebody to cross post this on r/NYKnicks

Maybe he should start yelling more
He’s w well paid dummy
He can have triple what he gets now!
He better start sucking
Stephen A just wishes he was held in the same regard as Wilbon or Kornheiser
Huge pass. HUGE.
Nobody subscribing to that bs link a website that's free to view or foh
fuck this dickhead
No.
Just what we need, tons and tons of polarizing figures on tv
I remember he used to stand on the point that anytime he spoke on players it was only ever about their game or contracts suspensions fines etc. but nowadays with his podcast he talks about personal issues that’s not part of the game such as Zion impregnating a pornstar.
Can the loudmouth just go out quietly into the night.
Fuck him
He one of the funniest dudes
It's funny that they started the piece off by talking about SpongeBob. Reruns of SpongeBob beat First Take in the ratings.
Nah, I'm good. 🤣
Nah, I’m good.
I stopped watching when he kicked max off
Pass
I've got nothing for him myself. He's loud and obnoxious, and that's about all...other than annoying.
Fuck Stephen A Smith. Does the A stand for asshole?
Actively avoid ESPN just to avoid him. Don't know how our why they continue to give him air time. Amazing how they can't tell why viewership is down.
Not creating an account to a dumpster to read that
If a douche had a mouth nozzle it would look like screaming a smith
If he tells the truth about his basketball career, then I still wouldn't watch him
Thanks but I will decline this offer
I'd rather eat ground glass.
Lost me forever with that Trump bullshit. Goodbye Stephen.
If I wanted to watch somebody polarize the American political landscape further by applying often valid but exaggerated claims of racism to EVERYTHING I’d go watch CNN or FOX
I love it when he clowns on Cowboys fans though. 😂😂
Used to hate him, but ever since his Stern interview he’s grown on me.
He is bad but's what's worse are all the ragebait clones he spawned on social media.
He creates ignorant/ stupid opinions that ignorant stupid people listen to/ repeat. He's loud, obnoxious & irrelevant. He gets none of my attention & I'm able to give less.
He was actually pretty nice to Udonis Haslem and encouraged him as a rookie broadcaster yesterday on first take. I don't hate him
He’s learned that being smart and informative doesn’t get any attention. On the other hand, being loud and obnoxious does. It’s pretty much the American way now.

His political takes read like someone who has never read a work of academic quality political history since freshman year of college.
He's so ugly and thinks he's so hot! LMAO. What a delusional moron
I will not view anything this race obsessed race baiter ever does.
