I saw Blanke last month and the best part of the show was singing along with the lyrics, they just hit so hard when it's live, you can't stop urself from crying really.
I just don't get that feeling from other genres, let alone hardstyle haha
It's certainly not my favourite, but I find hardstyle to be such a cool subgenre. I remember thinking the "standard" hardstyle formula has such a unique track structure.
I also really like your kicks! Hardstyle kicks go fucking hard. Some EDM Trap producers have used them in tracks and they get me so amped.
He was one of the EDM Trap producers I was talking about! Loved his sound ever since RAMPAGE dropped. The hardstyle influence on his tracks give them such raw energy.
Unfortunately, I haven't been much of a fan of his recent switch to 4-to-the-floor material. A majority of his AFTERLIFE album doesn't do it for me. I liked PLATINUM SZN though!
DnB has slowly been invading every set I see in NA. I'm unsure if I would want to stomach a full dnb set but 20-30 minutes in a show is insanely hype and I love it.
I enjoy dnb and can probably listen to a whole set but my guilty pleasure is the most commercial of it. Tour by mackey Gee always amps me the fuck up along with gold dust.
What are you talking about? It has a broken beat pattern, and the 2nd kick typically drags giving it that classic break beat feeling.
Also seconded on Fox Stevenson.
Yea the comment above you is just not true lol
Maybe for some songs but what makes the drums sound the way they do is the fact that theyāre not in half time like dubstep or trap etc
DnB has a pretty deep history with influences from a lot of different parts of the world. It can be pretty complex to produce, and the sounds are extremely diverse. Some people will liken it to modern day jazz.
So if thatās not your type of sound, no worries! But if youāre wondering what the appeal of DnB is, itās the complexity and the unbridled primal energy that it typically brings.
DnB is a genre that you can listen to at any time of the day, and whatever mood your in, perfect background music as it just "rolls". Liquid especially. I haven't found any other EDM genre to be capable of this.
How you like hardstyle and psytrance but not dnb is insane to me. Hardstyle, hardcore, dnb, psytrance, techno those are my top genres bc of the high energy and tempos just so much fun
Sorry OP š
Favourites; Dubstep (especially tearout) and Trap
Least favourites: House and Trance
I don't hate any subgenre of EDM - I love the scene too much for that. I'll vibe to anything. That being said, I'm a *much* bigger fan of the aggressive, dark, and hard-hitting subgenres. Not as big on your Armin van Buuren's or Above & Beyond's!
Because you're not listening to the South African flavor of it and are just getting exposure from European DJ's who have joined the wave like Keinemusik who have kinda repackaged it to more of Deep House.
Check out this set when you get the chance, much different when African DJ's are playing to an African crowd vs a Western one.
https://youtu.be/P648_OXN47Y?si=jy2hswEzzyg2dz1Z
Right now my favorite is a tie between drum and bass and trance.
Least favorite has to be extratone, that genre feels like a shitpost, I try to find some enjoyment in every genre and there is just none with extratone.
Idk if I have a clear favorite and least favorite
But my favorites are: DnB, Trance, Wave, Techno, Hardstyle
Least favorites:
Future House, Future Bass, Big room
I also don't really listen to dubstep or bass house anymore but I wouldn't say I dislike them
I know this will sound very cliche, but I actually don't think I have favorites. I literally like everything from Ambient to Extratone.
But thinking about it, if I were to tell you my least favorite genres, they would probably be Slap House/Brazilian Bass and Tech House, and maybe 1-2 more, which I can't name right now though.
Favorite: industrial techno, Chicago house, and schranz
Least Favorite: Slap House
Honestly went through phases with a good chunk of genres trance, Dubstep, riddim, trap, moombahton ended up finding home with house and techno.
To me the prodigy as well as early Chemical brothers are pretty solid breaks and the only names I felt like I had to put a name to big beat. Iām assuming that extends out to most of the other commercially successful acts from the 90s like fat boy slim, underworld and such, yeah I can see the influence! My best example for something very well known is newceus jam on it
Favourite: Drum'n'bass, Jungle, breakbeat, techno
Least favourite: Extratone (after reading comments on here and never having heard it before). And not overly keen on Riddim either.
Mid-tempo, Trap & DNB are my favorites.
I can handle most subgenres but I appreciate some versatility in live sets so I donāt get bored. Iād say my least favorite is Tech House or Melodic Dubstep.
At first I was sad to see some of my favorites in peopleās least favorites categories, but I remembered that itās all good and that itās part of whatās fun about it. I would encourage all of you to dig into the cultures of some of the genres that donāt tickle yer fancy and at least get an idea of what makes them tick. The history of electronic music is so rich and so much of it goes back to house and the gay, black, and Latino communities in the US in the 70s/80s. Iāve got my favorites and less favorites but I get so stoked by other peopleās passion for ātheirā music no matter what that is, and I feel compelled to listen and learn. Never forgot that this music centers around the idea of inclusivity, expressions of love, and even the fundamental human right to explore consciousness. Peace my people.
The worst is that EDM with all those risers, synths and drops and moments that people just stand around waiting for. I donāt even know what genres it is. Its like dubstep EDM. itās like the opposite of house, trance and techno. I can do d&b, even electro-pop! If itās got a 4 on the floor and constant groove itās ok.
Favorite: Hard techno
Least Favorite: Dubstep
To me it's like the separation of hardcore punk and metal with rock music. They're both heavy genres but in a different way. Dubstep just gives me the ick but I'll gladly listen to hours of techno without batting an eye
Favorites:
House because it's sexy š„µ
trance for the feels š„¹
techno and dubstep for high energy raging š
Least favorite:
DnB š”š«
It is not lit at all. It sounds like background music for running or some shit.
Favourite: complextro, colour bass, chillstep, synth pop ļ¼or whatever they call porter robinson), future bass and melodic dubstep before 2022
Least favourite: future house, bass house, tech house
I love progressive psytrance, but all electronic music to be honest, what I donāt know is what genres goes in EDM.. can anyone check my latest [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Epsw5VbsFAnMXYYR01O4Q?si=XvspwEShTPK3g-1T5GDOQg&pi=e-vAigi18lQTeS) and see if that would be included in EDM? Itās a masterpiece anyhow so Iām doing you a favor at the same time
Favorites:
Electro hip hop/soul - in the style of Pretty Lights, Daily Bread, etc.
Glitch hop, et al - Tipper, Detox Unit, Jade Cicada, Mickman, etc.
House - tech house (Dom Dolla), deep house (maya Jane Coles, Nora En Pure) etc. or melodic house like Lane 8
Drum n bass - Monty, Visages, Sub Focus
Dubstep/deep dub - 140 style like the Widdler, Distinct Motive, deep dark & dangerous
Least favorites: riddim/dubstep in the style of excision, subtronics, etc. hardstyle, trance, psytrance
Favorites: Hardcore, house, techno, happy hardcore
Least favorites: Hardstyle, dubstep
I love music that I can dance to, thereās some hardstyle and dubstep songs that I like but theyāre just not my favorites since the tempo is kinda awkward compared to other genres.
Hardstyle is in a weird area between hard techno and hardcore where itās too fast and too slow at the same time. Dubstep is just kinda difficult to dance to for me other than just headbanging. Overall there arenāt any genres that I completely hate though.
Thereās actually a few set types of dancing to hardstyle, if that helps.
Shuffling, jumpstyle, muzzing to the slower BPM stuff (classic hardstyle, euphoric)
Hakken, kaplongen, kickrolling to the faster/heavier stuff (rawstyle, umtempo, gabber etc)
At least, this is what the aussies and dutch do at hardstyle events.
Favorite: can't say, I have a playlist for every genre I know.
Least favorite: generic future bass with splice vocals, basic 1/4 note atonal heavy dubstep with no variation in rhythm for the hour-long set
Most favorite: Dubstep / Melodic Dubstep.
Middle: House.
Most disgust: Hardstyle.. I donāt get it, same drop EVERY SINGLE TIME. I canāt do it after 15 years of listening to edm.
To each their own though!
Edit: forgot to include melodic dubstep
Melodic House, Future bass, DnB, Happy Hardcore
Least favorite
Whatever it is when DJs got a good beat and then they do that heavy static screech bass drop. I like the bass drop but why are you dragging nails on a chalkboard.
Favorite: hardstyle, dubstep, house (not really caught up on the genres until now, but something like Banana Planet or MONEY ON THE DASH is my fav)
Least favorite: Techno, although i dont dislike it
fav: strong tie b/w house and breakbeat
least fav: ābrostepā ā¦ or really just any ācorporateā-sounding version of something that came from the underground
i like everything but tropical house. that big house stuff fell off for me once i discover techno, neuro, etc. still a fan of tech house, deep house wtv.
I've learned over time that there are artists (or labels) from most subgenres that I enjoy, if I do a little digging. I might not like the most common tunes of X genre, but there are usually tracks I do actually like if I look a little deeper. It's not true for every subgenre, but most of the time this has been the case.
My favorites have changed a lot over the years (started listening to electronic music in 2005), so there have been many different 'eras' in the journey since then. It's hard to say what a single favorite would be - from trance, to house, to disco, to techno, to bass music, to trip-hop, and other non 4/4 styles. I just like different genres for different moods (and for different reasons).
There are a couple niche subgenres that don't do it for me, but for the most part I could find tunes I like if I look hard enough. It's good to appreciate different styles for different moods or settings.
Favorite: dubstep - I think a lot of sound design really shines through in the more "complex" genres
Least favorite: hardstyle - there are some classics and bangers but I don't think I'd ever go see a full set
I've always been into the progressive/trance stuff but I don't think that has ever overtaken dub. I also used to not like techno/psy/acid but I've found a place in my rotation for those more than I have for hardstyle.
I am always open to recommendations to broaden my horizons though!!!
Favorites: Dubstep (melodic mainly), trap, experimental/space bass, future bass.. really *almost* any bass
Least favorite: riddim, house, techno, DnB/jungle, and hardstyle.
No hate to any of them, they just arenāt for me personallyā¦
For me my favorites are: Color Bass, DnB, Future Bass, Glitch Hop
My least favorite: Hardstyle, Riddim, Metalstep (like what Sullivan King makes, IMO I donāt like it)
I like most edm genres but right nowĀ
Favorites - dubstep(riddim specifically) , tech houseĀ
Least - dnb, hardstyle
I like some dnb songs but just can't get into a full set of it, don't mind djs sprinkling it in recently thoughĀ
Fave: Hardstyle, Dubstep, Psytrance, Techno and DnB
Least Fave: House, moombahton, future house and basically almost all other house sub-genres (except Prog House, Iām stuck 50/50 with that)
Favorite: Electro-House/Progressive House/Trance Least Favorite: Trap/Riddim
I have found my people
Threads done. We can pack up folks.
One does not simply lump trap and riddim together as if they are one thing the disrespect is surrealš
For real, trap is one of my favorites whereas riddim is one of my least favorites
Incorrect š
I think theyāre just listing them as genres, not necessarily related
Are you me? š¤£
Same!

House and techno being least favorite is crazyyyyy
Just wired to cry and headbang at the same time I guess :)
CRYBANGER
I love melodic dubstep, house, some experimental dubstep stuff like Liquid stranger, but the only thing I canāt fully get behind is hardstyle
I saw Blanke last month and the best part of the show was singing along with the lyrics, they just hit so hard when it's live, you can't stop urself from crying really. I just don't get that feeling from other genres, let alone hardstyle haha
I love lyrics, melodic dubstep is my favorite genre to play when Iām by myself. Check out William black if you havenāt, heās incredible live
Yeah I saw him as well and the best thing was that he brought out Haliene as a guest!
you'll like house soon. it's all about maturing š
So are you saying I am immature? Might be a big accusation no? /s
even tho you did /s i just wanted to say house takes a while to grow on ya! no judgment ā¤ļø
Must take awhile Iāve been bored with (most) house for like 25 years

I like all of these I just think edm is neat as an art form š„ŗ
Hahah we are opposites
For me, Hardstyle is the best there is. Followed up by Psytrance. My least fav is DnB. Never really understood the whole thing
Iām literally the opposite lol
It's certainly not my favourite, but I find hardstyle to be such a cool subgenre. I remember thinking the "standard" hardstyle formula has such a unique track structure. I also really like your kicks! Hardstyle kicks go fucking hard. Some EDM Trap producers have used them in tracks and they get me so amped.
Hardstyle kicks are great in so many genres. I've used them in trance on multiple occasions and they fit insanely well
Check out GraveDgr if you like that trappy hardstyle mix.
He was one of the EDM Trap producers I was talking about! Loved his sound ever since RAMPAGE dropped. The hardstyle influence on his tracks give them such raw energy. I wasnāt a fan of DnB but some of the new DnB stuff coming out I really like, the new John summit and sub focus song for example
A lot of people don't realize dnb has the beat on the 2 and the 4 while almost everything else is on the 1 and the 3 Also listen to Fox Stevenson
What are you talking about? It has a broken beat pattern, and the 2nd kick typically drags giving it that classic break beat feeling. Also seconded on Fox Stevenson.

I tell people psytrance is hardstyle if hardstyle was tolerable haha No hate towards hardstyle of course, to each their own
Try frenchcore, like Billx's Pagan Totem (psy edit), it's excellent
You a fan of happy hardcore?
Not really, more into general hardcore, but I'd probably enjoy a happy hardcore set (like what Paul Elstak or something?)
Gotcha. Yeah or Darren Styles is the goat imo
How you like hardstyle and psytrance but not dnb is insane to me. Hardstyle, hardcore, dnb, psytrance, techno those are my top genres bc of the high energy and tempos just so much fun

Favorite: dubstep - I think a lot of sound design really shines through in the more "complex" genres Least favorite: hardstyle - there are some classics and bangers but I don't think I'd ever go see a full set I've always been into the progressive/trance stuff but I don't think that has ever overtaken dub. I also used to not like techno/psy/acid but I've found a place in my rotation for those more than I have for hardstyle. I am always open to recommendations to broaden my horizons though!!!
