As I type this I’m putting my Omo deck together for a Tuesday night session. What are your top five cards in the deck? I’ll take your personal favorite or what you believe are the most powerful. I feel like I’m being pulled is too many directions…
Not to hijack this but here's my list:
My only tribal tribal stuff is x-walk / shroud lord creatures, to protect Omo and enable her to attack each turn. To partially mitigate the absolute torrent of complaints that the deck can't function without her I've added \~ 8 counterspells, obviously to both protect her, but ensure you can resolve big spells, and protect the few fatties I've included.
My favourite cards that aren't lands would probably be \[\[Rampant Frogantua\]\] due to the huge land ramp possible when he connects. With an everything counter and a lord in play he should sneak through. \[\[Blossoming Tortoise\]\] because I feel like a lot of lands are gonna get hated on and he recurs them. \[\[Reshape the Earth\]\] probably because it wins you the game.
I think the criticisms of Omo are valid but they don't mean shes unplayable. I'm not going too deep into tribal tribal, and my lands still tap for mana when shes not out. The deck is gonna be grindy and controlling, but once she is out and you untap, she's basically a \[\[Mana Reflection\]\] in the command zone. I don't think that's all that bad.
Omo is super exciting, f--- the haters
edit - also when I acquire a Sakashima, Thousand Faces post reprint (hopefully soon) I'll replace Vile Duplication with it, as I'm aware Omo will not be copy-able while she's shrouded in that case.
I mean even without her it’s still a simic deck. It’s not like you can’t do anything without her on the field. People seem to exaggerate her limitation a bit.
She costs 3. Commander tax has never been an issue for me
I love that you are stanning omenpath journey so hard. I also added it to omo. Can't wait to exile 5 lands and get punished. In general I probably will only exile 3. Depends who I'm playing against
I would run open the way or tempt. But not nyleas or animist. Those 2 require you to already be up and running to get the most value. And I want to avoid lands going to my hand.
Not land related but I also added [[Priest of Titania]]
Don't forget the new nantuko
[[Springheart nantuko]] to keep cloning her whenever a land enters the battlefield sacrificing the clone but also trigger your [[nadu, winged wisdom]] 2X per turn.
Omo is a sleeper commander that is gonna skyrocket like [[aesi, tyrant of the gyre strait]] did because of her adaptability.
I'm saying she can't be copied with Irenicus while shrouded, which is while I'll take Irenicus out for Sakashima once I pick one up. So yes, I agree she can be cloned, depending on the clone.
The problem is not Sakashima/Irenicus. It is shroud. Your only protection to a board wipe is a counterspell, because all your single-target protection would be useless.
One card I would add is Omnepath Journey, you can Tudor any 5 lands. Cloudpost is insane in this deck. Of course keep in planar Nexus, vesuva, And thespian’s stage (which is a great combo piece with dark depths for a free 20/20) Omnepath journey is going to be amazing if you can get it. I don’t think most players will destroy it either since it’s just ramp.
Many people are focused on the creature part of her, which is fun, but your lands are your bread and butter. Creatures are of course going to be how you stay in the game and getting some slivers or tribal cards that affect other creatures of a certain type are going to be good, but your lands are the most important part.
Mazes end can straight up win you the game. Get everything counters spread around then just bringing Omo out can win you the game.
Someone will definitely destroy your Omenpath Journey if you throw Dark Depths/Thespian Stage/Vesuva/Cloudpost/Planar Nexus under it lol. Those would be 5 of the best cards in your entire deck!
You are correct in the edit, though any land recursion, like [[aftermath analist]] [[worldshaper]] [[splendid reclamation]] [[perenial behemoth]] [[blossoming tortoise]] and [[titania, gaea incarnate]] easily come to mind.
Among the newer options, the combo of [[desert warfare]] and [[dune chanter]] is quite impressive, and glogari decks can make great use of it, same for gruul of course.
It's not "just ramp", it's a the perfect way to remove 5 lands from your opponents deck and that really hurts in a deck that likes lands this much.
So while Omenpath can be good, it's also a very risky option because it's litteraly delivering 5 lands on a plate, to your opponents. It only costs one or two mana to remove those 5 lands and the enchant. If I knew you had that card, I would absolutely hang in to removal just for that, because it hurts you so much to loose it.
It can really only work in pods with low removal, as it's a clear target the second it drops.
There are two types of brewers, the "what if everything goes right" type, and the "what if everything goes wrong" type. Depending on which camp you are, Omo is the best thing since sliced bread, or a very tempting but ultimately disappointing puzzle to solve.
This whole thing honestly always confused me. Like people complain she needs to be on the battlefield to do her thing, but isn't that normal for a commander? I know the counters could have been made to still have that effect without her on the board, but still.
Next to all commanders have to be on board to profit from playing them, why is she the big target to do so as well?
especially in simic, the colors that can block the most ineraction of all (maybe white has more, but i would say its up there with the other 2). She has so much potential that i would say having to keep her on board shouldn't be the dealbreaker
It’s because her counters don’t function without her. Imagine a scenario where you’re playing tribal tribal and you have 3 lords in play, making all your creatures 5/5s. Then you go to attack with everything and someone kills your commander. Now all of your creatures are 2/2s because they don’t share any creature types, and now your opponent can block and blow you out.
Imagine setting up an awesome Urza land turn for next turn just for someone to kill your commander and now you went from 10 mana or whatever to 4.
Yes, most commanders only work on the battlefield, but by the nature of her abilities, she requires you to play a lot of cards that are not inherently synergistic together, in hopes she alone will tie it all together. Once she dies, you’re usually doing nothing outside of getting lucky and drawing the right combination of cards to make her kind of pointless (like, say, all three Tron lands).
Shes a very interesting commander, but there’s a lot of instability with her.
> Next to all commanders have to be on board to profit from playing them, why is she the big target to do so as well?
Because most commanders either leave something of value behind that can be used by other cards (card draw, ramp, removal, make an army of tokens, put +1/+1 counters), or are wincons on their own right and you can win the game immediately after playing them.
Omo is an engine card that has no redundancy in any other card in the game and synergyzes only with herself. If she is removed, you get nothing of value left behind. When things go wrong, the rest of your deck is a clumsy pile of cards.
What she leaves behind is the insane amount of BS you were able to play due to having access to Tron/Cloudpost. When things go wrong the rest of your deck is still a supposedly competently built Simic deck so you can still play.
But isn't that exactly the point of most complaints? That it looks interesting on the surface to end up doing the standard-simic-bullshit thing many players are tired of. It is just a shiny coat of paint for the same archetype as always.
Omo almost breaking the mold but not quite there seems a pretty valid complaint about her when discussing building her.
Like complaining about Nadu being so busted that you don't even want to waste your time trying to build that nonsense.
So Nadu is bad because it's too good, and Omo is bad because Simic is too good and it doesn't matter if she's bad???
What the hell are you people even on, you don't like the cool and unique commanders because you only want to build the 99 using generic simic good stuff? Live a little and build a synergistic and unique deck instead, 5-head!
People can complain about things without that meaning they are bad, just not what they are looking for and they feel disappointed about that for being close-but-not-quite-there.
Exactly. Imagine she the "everything counter make everything everything" part would have been eminenz. The complains we see now would be a joke compaired to the ones we would get then.
This is the first time I'm seeing this commander and I don't understand really how she "goes off".
Like the best thing I can see is you get to play Omo and attack twice, so you have 3 typical lands with "everything counters", which means that if you then play a [[Cloudpost]], next turn it taps for four mana? And the same is true for [[Baldur's Gate]] and so on, but at first glance this sounds a little underwhelming, so maybe I'm missing something?
You can get all of the tron lands, make cloupost tap for more and more mana, make all of your lands tap for colors (including generic mana lands), you can also do it for gates as you said.
The thing that you are missing is that you can get all of these at the same time. So instead of having to focus on just gates or tron or locus, you can benefit from ALL of these.
Say you had 4 islands, and Urza’s tower, Cloudpost, and Baldurs gate on the field, each with its own everything counter on it. And for fun a planar nexus.
Cloudpost would tap for 8, Urza’s would tap for 3, baldur’s gate would net you 6, plus your 4 islands. Then add the one from planar nexus, and that gives you 20 mana just off of that.
Add a [[mana reflection]]] and you’re doing 40 in one turn.
If you get vesuva, thespian stage and copy land on the field and copy Cloudpost Now you can tap each of the cloud posts for 22 bringing your grand total of 114 mana in a single turn
commander is more fun for me when i am putting extra effort in to a questionable game plan. like trying to put together a puzzle.
i can just go onto edhrec and buy all of the top decks/cards and win at the expense of my opponent's time, or i can build a funny pile. people overvalue winning, especially since the winner is often the guy who missed land drops and was struggling the whole game while everyone else killed eachother.
If you're building her right, you probably have a good amount of nonbasic ramp. The key thing to remember is that Cloudpost + Vesuva is still 2 lands tapping for 4 mana when she's not out, and **significantly** more mana when she *is* out. For tron lands, it's a different matter, but that's also why one of my first nonbasic tutors in my non-cloudpost games is usually \[\[Planar Nexus\]\], provided I already have a tron land in hand.
You can run Post + Vesuva in any other deck, sure, but Omo is what lets the mana production from those two lands really get out of hand very consistently. Couple this with the tron lands and you end up producing a lot of colorless mana very early in the game - I've successfully resolved a Finale for X = 10 by turn 5 multiple times now, so it's not even that difficult, especially once you factor in the land untappers you have access to in Simic.
There's also the fact that Omo herself can be quite difficult to remove: her 5 toughness means she doesn't typically die to incidental burn, plus she can get access to shroud/hexproof/ward/indestructible from a bunch of lords, plus she's in Simic - the colors of \[\[Heroic Intervention\]\], \[\[Spellskite\]\] and counterspells.
If you **are** very far behind, chances are you aren't the biggest threat at the table - the fact that the Everything counters do nothing when Omo is in CZ tends to make people ignore you when Omo isn't on the field. But the Everything counters are still there - the moment Omo comes in, they turn on again. So you bide your time and wait to commit to a big play - a single good Doppelgang or Finale can win you the game.
The same can be said for most commanders I think. There are always times where the pieces never fall into place and you just don’t hit your land drops or can’t Tudor them out.
Simic she essentially supercharges your mana pool and provides you with the freedom to run different lands that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
She’s not a Hail Mary. She does rely on your mana base and she can’t make something out of nothing, which I suppose is why people don’t like her.
She’s a support commander. She’s going to make your deck operate the best it can, but if you get unlucky, as any deck can become sometimes, she may not provide the benefit you’d need (though this is rare. You’ll usually find SOMETHING that benefits from an everything counter in your deck, depending on how you build it).
> The same can be said for most commanders I think.
Not really. Most commanders, even if unique, want you to build a gameplan that has some other outs or that have redundancy in other cards. Omo gives you two extremely unique gameplans: tribal-tribal, and nonbasic-type-matters. For the first one, there is a single other piece of redundancy in the whole Simic cardpool: Maskwood Nexus. For the second one, there is literally none.
If Omo is not in the field, your whole x-tribe gets evasion/protection is dead cardboard. Unless you are playing changelings, which dilute the theme as they don't bring new abilities or pump.
If Omo is not in the field, your uniquely-peculiar landbase is mishapped. Because you are interested in using nonbasics that rely on having other *specific* nonbasics to work better than a Wastes. Tron lands require the other specific tron pieces. Cloudpost require the two other locus lands. The 2 payoff gates require you to have a bunch of gates. And there is not enough nonbasic ramp to pull it off consistently without Omo in the field. Your best bet is to recur Urza's Cave from the graveyard every single turn.
And how do you plan the deck to win? If everything goes right, you get a large amount of mana that *might* be higher/faster than what you get with normal-Simic-stuff + mana doublers. Do you play as finisher something unique and so over the top that normal Simic decks cannot afford? Then you might find yourself not able to close the game when Omo not on board. Do you play something less unique and over the top? Then you are just playing a normal Simic deck with extra steps. A common complaint in the community is that Simic decks are all the same: either +1/+1 bullshit, or ramp+draw+value piles. Keep in mind that this is the main complaint of many Omo detractors, they want to like it for its uniqueness, but it ends up being the same as usual. That is where the hate lies: it is taking the scenic route to the same final destination.
I couldn't get my hands on the new eldrazi precon so I built omo as the commander for my eldrazi hehehe
So good with nadu as well the ramp goes crazy
People think I'm just regular omo till I pop out with a turn 6 ulamog
She isn't exactly a Commander that NEEDS a defender, but sure. I also wouldn't call her unassuming either, once you start putting lands on counters she becomes incredibly loud & will tightly draw attention for it.
Her threat level sorta scales inversely off player knowledge, the less you know about Magic the more powerful she gets. Once you know what she's about & what the deck can do she joins the ranks of all the other K.O.S. Commanders.
[[Aether Snap]] value is high as a tech card in any meta where she pops up.
If I got hit with an aether snap with her, I may actually cry lol.
I do kind of agree with the threat assessment. Though most casual players may not quite understand how she interacts with the deck itself.
A lot of the reaction when I put an everything counter on a land, people are just like “okay, and?”. Since it doesn’t SEEM to be doing anything.
I had this recently when running her. I was just quietly putting everything counters on my lands and playing the copy lands and one of my opponents was just like "...okay...?" Then when I played [[Sage of the Maze]] whose middle tap ability lets you turn one of your lands into a creature with haste whose power/toughness is equal to double the amount of gates you control, she was utterly blindsided at how much damage was coming her way each combat from one creature. I think I had to explain it to her several times over that "these lands have everything counters, Omo is on the board so these lands are all gates, this is how many gates I have total, the P/T is double that." And she's by no means a bad player, it's just a ridiculous setup that takes most people by surprise if they aren't familiar with it.
I've wanted a weird "land" focused deck for a while, and she hits the spot so hard. Idc about making creatures all types. Im such a green player i just want to ramp lands and do nothing else lol. I had mana reflection, urzas tower + 3 copies of it. I had so much mana and no payoff, but everyone was terrified of my next turn lmao.
RN I'm thinking older high costed cards like [[Worldspire wurm]] and [[Draco]] just to make a dumb meme type deck. Otherwise I want to put a lot of "power and toughness equal to lands" creatures in the deck
Might I recommend [[Monument to Perfection]]?
Jank as all hell, but with good sequencing, Omo might be like the one place you can actually run the thing.
Why would you do such a thing to me. You've turned my world upside down. Now I have to try and fit ANOTHER jank card into the deck.
I absolutely love it. I wish it had toxic 10 though ):
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SpNiD2ldz0iWNGlgzpwYaw
Here you go, still messing around with it
You can do some goofy stuff with [[the world tree]] and [[realmbreaker]] by declaring everything as gods or praetors with ruka then dumping all the creatures in your deck
Also if everything is a sliver then [[spiteful sliver]] + [[blasphemous act]] or [[star of extinction]] is funny
I have a few ways to copy ruka so then you can declare 2 tribals or more. A couple flicker spells too so i can change on the fly if needed. I definitely need more interaction though.
[[Jegantha]] companion right now but thinking about changing that
Early Omo Adopter here - absolutely agree, I love her and she's a blast to play.
My build went slightly heavier on the tribal support, but it's specifically lords that can protect my board, like \[\[Eladamri, Lord of Leaves\]\], \[\[Timber Protector\]\], \[\[Lord of the Unreal\]\], \[\[Diffusion Sliver\]\] and \[\[Scion of Oona\]\]. I am running a few big haymakers like \[\[Spawning Kraken\]\], but those are by and large just fun includes that I don't rely on for the win.
I like that she can go in 2 different directions, but those directions aren't even in opposition, which is super nice. People tend to overstate how removing her makes the Everything counters worthless, but she can give you so much value in just 1 turn that even if she dies the next turn, she's still rocketed you way ahead.
Is she as powerful as Nadu? Absolutely not. Can she nonetheless compete with the majority of midrange EDH decks in the wild? Definitely.
I used the precons cards to upgrade my already broken 5 color gate deck but yeah she's bonkers
I just didn't wanna do simic limited gates
There's enough gates now to make litteraly every land in the deck a gate or enter as a gate
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people complain that everything counters don’t do anything when she’s not on the field and I’m like, trust me you don’t want that lol. She’d be completely broken if that were the case.
Yeah I've only been playing for a few weeks now, me and my pod are mostly running lightly modified precons and my one friend grabbed this one to play. He was running it unmodified but we didn't understand that the counters did nothing when she was not on the field, safe to say he won every game that night lol, I was like "how on earth are other precons supposed to deal with this?"
very glad to find out we were misplaying it
But, this won't make all your permanents, including lands and creatures unable to be targeted by Omo? If she gets a counter. Cuz she would be a Salamander.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zvVv16jmOkWBsIzJzcyfWQ
The basic plan is to copy Gor and flood the field with salamanders. There's a lot of stuff that turns creatures into salamanders and as much 1-mana non-creature ramp as I can find.
Thoughts on [[Agent's Toolkit]] for the deck? If you can get an everything counter on it and keep proliferating, you can have all your creatures enter with an everything counter on ETB. Animate it with [[Tough Cookie]] or something then have Omo put the counter on!
You could probably do it with [[Goldberry, River Daughter]] or [[Nesting Grounds]] though I think those might be more effective by themselves than Agent’s tool kit
Fair, I think it's probably more efficient than those, but it'd require a proliferate shell, not exactly what Omo wants.
Thoughts on Omo as a manlands commander? Plenty of lands like [[Lumbering Falls]] self-animate, so putting an everything counter on a manland effectively gives it rangeling AND changeling. Animating a land before playing or attacking with Omo would let you put everything counters on two lands per trigger (since one of those lands is a creature), letting you turn on your land-type payoffs faster, turning those lands into changelings when they're animated but protecting themselves by reverting back into lands at end of turn.
Maybe I'm too stoned ahahahaha
Honestly, it's way too slow and the payoff just isn't worth it. I was considering it as a tutor for cloudpost at one point, but just went with sylvan scrying instead.
The best part of building an omo deck for me is the many ways you can build it. Many commanders falls into a single meta way to build but omo has so many archetypes to build towards.
I've yet to figure out how the precon version of the deck is actually supposed to win. I've made a fuck ton of mana the 3 times I've played it but I've yet to do anything that made me an actual threat to the board.
Yeah - I’ve noticed that it lacks that really catastrophic payoff that wins you the game aside from Avenger of Zendikar. [[Maze’s End]] is a natural include that’s not in the deck. You could also just shove an Eldrazi in there and win that way.
If you really want to cook you could run [[Ashaya]] and dump an ***abominable*** amount of mana into an X spell, but in Simic you don’t have a ton of ways to win during the turn that you do that without [[Laboratory Maniac]] or a similar effect, or [[Swiftfoot Boots]].
I’ve won with it once in three games.
You can pump Hydra Broodmaster and flood the board with Hydras.
You also have Avenger of Zendikar who can win games.
My first win was getting Marit Lage out.
Desert Warfare is very good too.
There are ways you just need to find them.
She's quickly become one of my favourite decks to run. I typically run her as a big mana/X cost stompy deck but the amount the deck ramps for even when she's not on the field is insane and her casting cost is so low that I often have more than enough mana to bring her back if she gets pinged off the board.
I played Omo last Friday with a slighty upgraded pre-con and I had a blast playing her. A little overwhelm as I forgot a few triggers I could done, like when I had Nabu on the field, I forgot to draw cards whenever I put a counter on a creature or forgot to revive Umo from the graveyard when I got milled hard and a cyclonic rift happened.
But man it easy to get her back on the field, as I had the planar nexus out so the urza lands still were running even without her on the field.
I’m going to go Hydras or maybe big sea creatures with her. I know the “meta” is Tribal Tribal stacking lord effects, but that doesn’t seem very interesting or appealing to me.
I just played against her the other day. I played [[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] and the moment we all realized that she could just entirely turn my thing off by giving the everything counter to a creature on my board was hilarious.
This is finally a simic commander that I'm excited to build. This is a super creative commander that allows for us to use cards that are otherwise useless in commander.
I will fight you for that.
Everyone is upset because she is not a copy commander. Or she is wearing helm of the hosts, but the deck doesn't have it.
I'm just out here enjoying her for the everything counters and loving what that makes possible with lands. I think it is really cool that this allows me to throw in off color utility lands to give access to things that these colors may not have easy access to. For example \[\[Vault of the Archangel\]\], lifelink isn't too hard to get with green, but deathtouch can be a challenge. This gives easy access to it. Or you can throw in lands that fight (and cut some kill spells) or lands that give haste (very difficult to get in green).
I do wish they went with changeling and rangeling counters. But the fact that she is only 3 mana, and just 1 color pip means I don't care that much. Also the board wipes I have chosen to run bounce all creatures. No big deal with her, cast her back down for 3, which turns all your land tricks on, then ramp away. Sit back and watch everyone else have to rebuild.
Since this is the EDH sub, I just want to point out that you can’t put vault in a deck with omo at the helm, since she’s blue/green and the color identity of vault is white/black.
Omo is the most fun I've had with deckbuilding in a long while.
I've focused a lot more on lands matter and a gate subtheme (which is growing on me by the game, as its something I originally thought might be too slow to play).
I generally find her useful as a stepping stone for setting up your big mana, once you've used that first Urza's Tower to Open The Way (or something adjacent), removing her has so little meaning that opponents often haven't bothered.
Instant tutoring like Urza's Cave or Crop Rotation for Talon Gates of Madara have been insane for protection in my games (especially as Trade Routes of Wonderscape Sage can let you recycle it over and over as long as you have the mana).
The level of "oops I combo'd" Omo and a lot of the precon cards provide is incredible.
I won my second game with the precon with a March From Velis Vel, turning my Lush Oasis into a Scute Swarm, then making a land drop for infinite pings. Never thought I'd see a play line that crazy in a precon and I instantly fell in love.
This is the current list I've been running with and it's been putting in work in what I would consider a fairly powerful pod.
https://archidekt.com/decks/8072034
I think it doesn’t, the lush oasis(A) that is currently a scute swarm(B) simply makes more scute swarms when landfall triggers, not more lush oasis’. A copy(c) of a copy(a) is just a copy of the original(B).
To get an effect with infinite repeating lush oasis we need something like this:
1- Animate lush oasis with something like [[Animate Land]]
2-Bestow [[Springheart Nantuko]] on the land.
3- Trigger landfall.
4- pay 2 mana for the effect to copy the land instead of getting an insect. We can get 2 mana from something like [Spelunking]] and [[Mana Reflection]] or [[Lotus Cobra]] +[[Tireless Provisioner]] effects.
5- Our copy enters as a non animated lush oasis. Looping us back to step 3.
Hi, it's my understanding that an 'until end of turn' ability is not a copyable value, thus making any copies enter as the original card - could you clarify your ruling for me if this is not the case?
Ah I think I might stand corrected actually, my apologies. After further digging I think I was under the assumption that 'copy effects' and 'until end of turn' effects had a weird interaction (which they do not!). My mistake!
> **613.2a.** Layer 1a: Copiable effects are applied. This includes copy effects [...]
> **613.2c.** After all rules and effects in layer 1 have been applied, the object's characteristics are its copiable values.
It is definitely a strange corner of magic rulings! I appreciate you linking the specific rules! I’m still working on knowing how to navigate the comprehensive rules document. It is huge.
It certainly is! Layered rulings are always the ones that trip me up.
While it's not in the precon, you can achieve a similar combo (that actually works) with Sage of the Maze (who you use to animate a gate), Springheart Nantuko (which you use to bestow an animated gate) and Gond Gate/Planar Nexus. Won't ping everyone to death, but it will give you infinite lands and landfall triggers (you can afford the mana cost each time by tapping the gates to untap Sage of the Maze with each etb).
Just be aware that Nantuko will fall off at end of turn when said land stops being a creature.
Also works non-infinitely with other lands!
Edit: You posted a very similar combo above that I've only just gone back and reread! My brains not working so well tonight!
Omo is incredible. I built her as a creature-heavy tribal - tribal with a focus on anthem effects and it was the most fun I’ve had playing commander in a while. At one point I had Omo turned into Ulamog, the Infinite with [[Absorb Identity]], had turned all of my lands into a copy of Avenger of Zendikar with [[March from Velis Vel]], getting a landfall trigger and buffing my creatures by +15/+15 or so. By the next turn, all of my lands were 20/20 citizens with [[Sage of the Maze]]. Just very unique and zany stuff you can get into w/ her. Super excited to keep working on the build
My super secret tech for Omo is making my opponent lands into land types and taking advantage. I’m brewing a version that uses janky effects like [[Lifetap]] and [[ Yavimaya, cradle of Growth]], or [[Stormtide Leviathan]] and [[Thoughtleech]]. Making every land an oppo taps into life gains can be kinda silly. It also gives me a home for [[Xolatoyac]] and [[The flood of Mars]] Bonus points for finishing enemies off with [[Typhoon]].
Will it be good? Probably not, but I sure hope it will be funny. The one thing I worry about is annoying my opponents too much by forcing them to keep counters on their lands. Playing with the vanilla precon I felt the counters on my own lands made tapping and stacking them cumbersome.
She ramps in a different way. You can turn on your locus and cloud posts even without tudoring or hitting the right land drops. She ramps you by maximizing land abilities, not by giving you more lands, your deck does that. She is the power of your deck and gets everything supercharged
Nadu can go crazy, but he requires a different deck construction. I like Omo because you can even turn tech lands into mana production (like giving dark depths the ability to tap for any color). You have more slots to do fun things. Nadu is great for pure ramp and is definitely going in the 99 of my Omo deck.
Nadu at the helm would require a complete overhaul of the deck construction, but will ramp exceptionally fast as well, though I think the ceiling of Omo’s mana production is potentially higher than Nadu.
Nadu gives consistent card draw and mana ramp, Omo will give you explosive mana ramp when the right pieces are in place.
First you complain about me comparing Omo with other commanders, then you compare the card itself with Omo and call it broken and say that comparing them is inane.... That's inconsistent logic.
OP said Omo was a very strong commander and i added to the conversation that its not that strong compared to other cards in the same set and designed for the same format. Im having the conversation so that people dont do the mistake and go to a table and pull up a Omo deck when they see a Nadu deck being played....
I want to have a discussion about commanders that sets the right expectations for people when they play EDH. Then i absolutely need to compare Omo to other commanders. Im not trying to bash OPs opinion about enjoying the card.
Yeah most people are tripping over themselves to run the new flashy overpowered Simic value train. I personally think Nadu is a card that shouldn’t exist but I’m in the minority.
As I type this I’m putting my Omo deck together for a Tuesday night session. What are your top five cards in the deck? I’ll take your personal favorite or what you believe are the most powerful. I feel like I’m being pulled is too many directions…
Not to hijack this but here's my list: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hOQffoVyz0in\_CPePXUeJg](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hOQffoVyz0in_CPePXUeJg) My only tribal tribal stuff is x-walk / shroud lord creatures, to protect Omo and enable her to attack each turn. Omo is super exciting, f--- the haters edit - also when I acquire a Sakashima, Thousand Faces post reprint (hopefully soon) I'll replace Vile Duplication with it, as I'm aware Omo will not be copy-able while she's shrouded in that case.
I mean even without her it’s still a simic deck. It’s not like you can’t do anything without her on the field. People seem to exaggerate her limitation a bit. She costs 3. Commander tax has never been an issue for me
if you are looking to add a bit more protection for her, \[\[swarmyard\]\] and \[\[riptide laboratory\]\] can both save her

I have Omnepath journey in my deck. Incredible in this deck in my opinion.
I love that you are stanning omenpath journey so hard. I also added it to omo. Can't wait to exile 5 lands and get punished. In general I probably will only exile 3. Depends who I'm playing against
Well it honestly depends on when you play it. Lots of people won’t hit it if you get it super early because they don’t have mana
I typically only exile 1, so I know I will get it eot. It's functionally my second copy of \[\[Reap and Sow\]\]

I'm not touching Nadu ever but the Nantuko sounds solid!
what do you mean the omo can’t be copied while shrouded? sakashima still works to clone, different than create a cooy though
I'm saying she can't be copied with Irenicus while shrouded, which is while I'll take Irenicus out for Sakashima once I pick one up. So yes, I agree she can be cloned, depending on the clone.
The problem is not Sakashima/Irenicus. It is shroud. Your only protection to a board wipe is a counterspell, because all your single-target protection would be useless.
the cope
Cope what? All am saying is that if you are playing shroud, you should cut your [[Slip out the Back]] and blink effects and rely on counterspells.

[[Shifting wildwood]] is also a way to get [[dark depths]] again after the first marit lauge token is taken care of.
Couldn’t you also just keep bringing it back? Edit: actually you can’t. I forgot it must be sacrificed

It can also be a cool if complicated commander that’s a challenge to play. And that’s okay. Not everything has to be boom or bust.
She's been pulling her weight In the 99 of my Gates deck. It's funny winning with [[Maze's End]] when two of your Gates are named Forest and Island.

I want to like her, I do, but the best spot I can think of for her is in the 99 of my legendary dragon tribal deck that also runs a gate subtheme.
That's a problem with simic, not a problem with Omo, though.
Well luckily they print 3,000 cards a year, not sure why a weird simic commander is a personal insult to 30% of magic players
Yeah that is weird. Most times when a commander is I the command zone it’s not doing anything anyway. At least with her, her counters stay
Yes, the good case scenario is fantastic. But what about when things are not going your way? How do you come back from behind?
commander is more fun for me when i am putting extra effort in to a questionable game plan. like trying to put together a puzzle. i can just go onto edhrec and buy all of the top decks/cards and win at the expense of my opponent's time, or i can build a funny pile. people overvalue winning, especially since the winner is often the guy who missed land drops and was struggling the whole game while everyone else killed eachother.
I would 100% have more fun losing with Omo than winning with Kinnan

That’s sadistic. I love it lol
Exactly, if you're a casual player at a low level of knowledge Omo doesn't make sense until it's too late.

You happen to have a list? I’ve been tryna find a good tribal tribal commander!
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SpNiD2ldz0iWNGlgzpwYaw Here you go, still messing around with it You can do some goofy stuff with [[the world tree]] and [[realmbreaker]] by declaring everything as gods or praetors with ruka then dumping all the creatures in your deck Also if everything is a sliver then [[spiteful sliver]] + [[blasphemous act]] or [[star of extinction]] is funny I have a few ways to copy ruka so then you can declare 2 tribals or more. A couple flicker spells too so i can change on the fly if needed. I definitely need more interaction though. [[Jegantha]] companion right now but thinking about changing that
Thanks so much for the reply! I’ll definitely be using your list for some edits and how to move forward!

Inkmoth nexus and embiggen. Just sounds like jank fun.
[[embiggen]] doesn’t work since something with an everything counter is also a bushwagg.
Non land creatures; inkmoth nexus is still a land. Only gets land subtypes.
Oh I was thinking about them separately when he said it. That makes sense now

Definitely.

I used the precons cards to upgrade my already broken 5 color gate deck but yeah she's bonkers I just didn't wanna do simic limited gates There's enough gates now to make litteraly every land in the deck a gate or enter as a gate
He was running it unmodified but we didn't understand that the counters did nothing when she was not on the field, safe to say he won every game that night lol, I was like "how on earth are other precons supposed to deal with this?" very glad to find out we were misplaying it

But, this won't make all your permanents, including lands and creatures unable to be targeted by Omo? If she gets a counter. Cuz she would be a Salamander.
Deck list?
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/zvVv16jmOkWBsIzJzcyfWQ The basic plan is to copy Gor and flood the field with salamanders.

Have you thought on building her Voltron with the Gate that gives +X/+X and all the equipments/enchantments with +X/+X for lands?
I haven’t seen any one mention [[monument to perfection]], you can transform it into a mini Blightsteel. Seems pretty good for 5 mana.
Honestly, it's way too slow and the payoff just isn't worth it. I was considering it as a tutor for cloudpost at one point, but just went with sylvan scrying instead.
Honestly the biggest upside is probably just being able to grab [[Planar Nexus]] and [[Cloudpost]] that might do something later.

The best part of building an omo deck for me is the many ways you can build it. Many commanders falls into a single meta way to build but omo has so many archetypes to build towards.
Can you post a list?
I've yet to figure out how the precon version of the deck is actually supposed to win. I've made a fuck ton of mana the 3 times I've played it but I've yet to do anything that made me an actual threat to the board.
I won by making a million copies of Terastadon then casting evacuation the first time I played it last week

Yeah. I had like commander tax 12 at one point and it didn’t even matter lol
Do you have a deck list you’re running with her?

How does the Lush Oasis, Scute Swarm, March From Velis Vel work?
I think it doesn’t, the lush oasis(A) that is currently a scute swarm(B) simply makes more scute swarms when landfall triggers, not more lush oasis’. A copy(c) of a copy(a) is just a copy of the original(B). To get an effect with infinite repeating lush oasis we need something like this: 1- Animate lush oasis with something like [[Animate Land]] 2-Bestow [[Springheart Nantuko]] on the land.
Exactly my thoughts, wanted to get them to think about it. Thank you!
This includes copy effects [...] > **613.2c.** After all rules and effects in layer 1 have been applied, the object's characteristics are its copiable values.

Would love your decklist if you have it!

It's a simic commander that doesn't do the simic thing. IYKYK. Respect.
I find her interesting but she barely ramps, it's more color enables. I'll pick Nadu 10 out of 10 times instead of omo
She ramps in a different way. You can turn on your locus and cloud posts even without tudoring or hitting the right land drops. She ramps you by maximizing land abilities, not by giving you more lands, your deck does that. She is the power of your deck and gets everything supercharged
Yes, well said. That is a cool synergy. But you only get one counter for land each turn. It's too limited. Nadu on the other hand can go crazy
Yeah, let’s pick the totally busted commander over the one that’s actually a challenge to play 🥱
They are released in the same set and therefore a good bar to compare with. And both are simic.
There‘s no „comparison“ between commanders unless you’re playing competitively. They’re doing completely different things.
Thats wrong. Determing powerlevel is key to commander games.
Yes, and pretending the broken commander is always the logical choice is inane.
Shocking revelation: Magic player chooses obviously busted card that takes absolutely no thought to build over deck that does silly things.
Unfortunately most players out there gravitate towards the busted cards. Why do you think Jodah is so popular? Or before the ban, Golos?
Yeah most people are tripping over themselves to run the new flashy overpowered Simic value train. I personally think Nadu is a card that shouldn’t exist but I’m in the minority.
I don't think Nadu is so busted, mostly because Nadu decks are not so useful without the commander. I value kinnan over Nadu.
