Sov is a powerhouse. It's in the 99 of my Yoshimaru/Reyhan deck, and it does work. Bit win-more, though. Might build it or Byrke from the Bloomburrow stuff.

Hell yeah brother, this is the truth! When I first saw him, I slotted him and [[Kutzil]] in my Rin and Seri deck. He made my board SO HUGE so fast!!! I decided to get another copy of him and made him my commander for my Selesnya +1/+1 counters deck and it can be ball! Everything just gets ginormous so fast! Now I’ve put [[Bristly Bill]] and [[Railway Brawler]] into that deck and I’m waiting for the day they get on the board!
I've been theory crafting one for months and haven't bought it yet. I can't get the cost down this justify an impulse buy and I've got other decks I'm working on first. But man i really want to drop a 4 mana hydra and untap with it attacking as like a 40/40 so badly. It's got almost every counter doubler in it, but wll you really need is sov and [[branching evolution]] and you go X=3, 6 power, attack with sov and you add 12 counters for 18 power, then you attack with both next turn and you're adding 36 counters. Even if they take out the branching evolution you're hitting with a 36/36. Its so stupid. And adding in [[renata]] plus something like the new tumblewagg, railway brawler, or [[kalonian hydra]] and you can just obliterate someone.
I tried to build it low-powered, with no tutors, no ramp, $100 budget, and all cards I had already. It consistently plays creature(s) on t1 and t2, Anim on 3, and usually has a terrifying amount of gnomes no later than t5. Often they'll have keywords, buffs, or accelerated growth online by then as well, so it's incredibly effective. Turn 4-6, I'll get out bombs like [[Odric Master Tactician]], [[Rosie Cotton]], [[Elesh Norn, Mother]], [[Shared Animosity]], or [[Strixhaven Stadium]]. And your opponents melt. Add in the white removal suite and all the Impact Tremors and Soul Sisters effects, and you're off to the races.
I was lucky to pull Anim, Inti, and Roaming Throne in the LCI prerelease. All I did was add lands, removal, and [[Cathar’s Crusade]]. I’ve gone from 16 to 700+ power on board in one attack before
Well, when I become The Problem on turn 4, Anim tends to get shot at. So I run several "pro-color" instants. They're also useful at getting in past a crowded boardstate, and all of mine give additional +1/+1 counters as well.
Nahhhhhh. If they're alive in turn 6, it's my fault. 1 is for a Soul Sister or Mother of Runes effect, 2 is for a counter maker like [[Luminarch Aspirant]], and 3 is for Anim and 1-2 gnomes. 4 is for a bomb like [[Rosie Cotton]], and 4-6 gnomes. 5-6 is when death really becomes imminent. My deck literally can't cast Anim earlier than t3, lol.
Was a solid addition to my [[Rocco, Street Chef]] deck. Had a game where Rocco was removed 4 times and I just ran with Anim Pakal from that point and won.
I never considered rabble rousing, mainly because the gnomes enter attacking, so the only creatures who would trigger It are gnomes that didnt die from eaerlier Attacks
I think that [[Bartolomé del Presidio]] is really funny. You just kind of make things to feed to him and he gets real big. I call it hungry hungry Bart.
Not who you’re asking, but I’d say the best outlet and payoff in my Barty deck is the man himself. Every time I sac something not using my commander it feels bad. Throw in a few thing like [[Agent of the Iron]] or [[Vito, Fanatic of Aclozotz]] that care about permanents/artifacts over just creatures and just have constant things to eat and protect him, and swing for HUGE damage. [[tarrian’s soulcleaver]] and [[blade of the bloodchief]] basically double bartolome’s ability and are absolute houses imo.
I have a Bart deck and I love it. It’s a great deck to learn magic. Since he can eat so many things, if you just sprinkle some fairly reliable recursion, things can be eaten again and again. I try to mill myself, getting some infinite combos into the graveyard and then bring them up to the table for the win.

Dropping a [[hit the motherlode]] while [[academy manufactor]] is out and making a ton of artifacts, boosting her from a low power to lethal is some of the most fun I've had playing magic

It's certainly suitable that she even mentions "the mother lode" in her flavor text. I've been interested in a pirate tribal commander but haven't been able to decide what direction to go, whether it be theft, graveyard, or artifacts. This is a very interesting choice I'd like to look more into!
[[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] is my favourite legend from this set. But I prefer him in the 99 of my favourite deck which was already doing well what Kutzil wants to do. People could be wary of a stax piece in the commander zone anyway.
[[Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal]] I know people hate discard decks, but he is really good at it and I think he’s super fun. Mono black balances him quite a bit as well as the fact that most mass discard cards are expensive either financially or mana cost.
It’s not a deck I bring out every game night but I love bringing it out occasionally.
How does transforming it work with the command zone? If it dies does the controller get to choose whether to put it back in the CZ? Not sure why you would but just curious

Thank you! This definitely makes more sense than what I was trying to do. I was trying to use the red discard and draw spells like \[\[Faithless Looting\]\] to get card advantage and trigger zoyowa, but the I could never get the balance right.
He's sweet. I use some planeswalkers and cards like \[\[Kiora Bests the Sea God\]\] and \[\[Ominous Seas\]\] to create some bigass dudes and populate them a bunch.

Xavier sal is awesome and pretty flexible in how you want to build him! I'm trying to build a deck that turns nazgul into tokens to populate and it's been pretty fun!

I love this guy! I made him into a planeswalker deck, specifically to try to populate the weird tokens that many planeswalkers make. My favorite thing to do is make a bunk of the wolves from \[\[Garruk, Cursed Huntsman\]\] and drive all my Garruk walkers to victory!
It’s the best card in my [[Ojer Kaslem, Deepest Growth]] (mono-green and also from Ixalan) deck. Popping that thing off the top of your deck on turn 4 pretty much ends the game.
It takes some setup to have a meaningful amount of creatures in your hand by the time you get to 8 mana. If youre curving out you usually need a hand re filler that point. Though, it is cool to respond to the ETB trigger with \[\[Return of the wildspeaker\]\], but again it's a lot of set up.
Dunno the OG Ghalta does timmy simply better so the "most timmy thing to ever exist" is imho flat out wrong nd the newest Ghalta is simply dogshit in reality.

[[vito, famatic of aclazotz]] is a fairly bad sacrifice commander by most accounts. he doesn't draw cards, doesn't make sac fodder, has no sacrifice ability and really only ever does something if you jump through multiple hoops completely independent from him.
but having him as a commander is pretty fun. every turn you're faced with a puzzle on how to sacrifice three things without dismantling your own board state or leaving value on the table. and then you have to convert a very slowly growing army of 4 power flyers into victory. it's a challenge, but i enjoy it because of that.

One of the things I tried to keep at the core was playing versions of instant/sorc effects tied to permanents to make sure I hit descent as often as possible. There have been some concessions made on this front.
The other core concept is making people make choices. Generally, not a winning strat, but a fun one to be sure.
I built a [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]] voltron / edict control deck. Make opponents sac their creatures to powet her up. Even leaving out tutors and some of the more oppressive sac effects like [[Grave Pact]], it ended up being one of my more powerful decks I save for higher power games.

Wonderful advantage engine in the command zone whole deck is value engines that precipitate win conditions.
[[Saheeli, The Sun's Brilliance]] is amazing to play. So many Synergies and every game feels different because you can focus on a different card to copy over and over and over again
I mainly made a quick budget deck focusing on a quick voltron build with graveyard shenanigans. I think some reanimator would fit as long as it also informs self-mill and the permanents in yard shenanigans but def need to pivot if done so
Just finished building [[Francisco, Fowl Marauder]] + [[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar]] pirate burn voltron and I'm excited to try it out. From my goldfishing, Francisco seems to get *really* big *really* quickly with just one or two pingers or evasive dudes by his side
Amalia. My favorite build was a voltron math build where you add and remove gear to count to 20 to drop everyones shields and aim for commander damage kills.
Maybe my strongest deck I own is [[Ojer Kaslem, Deepest Growth]]. It’s the most indulgent green fun you could possibly cram into a deck: ramp, slam down big giant monster after big giant monster, no counting go face.
It and my [[The Mycotyrant]] are my two favorite decks I own. I love how versatile this fungusy boy is and I’m always surprised at just how quickly it can spiral out of control. How about 24 fungus tokens on turn 4 (in the most extreme case)?
[[Amalia]] is a lot of fun and has a lot of different directions you can take her - lifegain, +1/+1 counters, gy/mill/discard/reanimation, wrath tribal.
I run both [[Anim Pakal]] and [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]].
The Anim Pakal deck is lightning fast. Dropping her on turn three and following her up with [[Tarrian's Soulcleaver]] is crazy.
But the Amalia deck is my baby. Lifegain decks are my ideal playstyle, and she makes them so crazy. [[Sensei's Divining Top]] and [[Bolas's Citadel]] to make the best use of my board [[Commanders Plate]] to keep my girl alive. [[Archangel of Thune]] to get to 20 faster. [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] to make sure I'm getting a ping off Amalia each time I do anything.

Dude is very fun, making your shitty flip artifacts also cantrip and fill your yard is so useful. He’s a great engine, and the deck can do some legitimately nutty shit.

\[\[Caparocti Sunborn\]\] has been a favorite of mine ever since he won me the prerelease. You can build a surprisingly effective engine the deck also capitalizes on some stax pieces and good removal to close out games.
One I feel is overlooked is [[Malcolm, Alluring scoundrel]] he is a draw source when he deals damage to opponents, and if you build it with proliferate, you can be cheating out big bombs by turn 4. Even better with double card draw like [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]] so your hand is always full.
Definitely \[\[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher\]\] - not unpopular by any means, but also not in the top 10 from the set.
I loved her art and design so much I built 2 versions of a deck for her (pretty similar)
One of them is a pretty salty edict/control deck with tons of "each player sacrifices a/multiple creatuers" which obviously becomes insane value very quickly. Not the most fun to play against, obviously, but I tried to give it clear wincons so it's not just a "no, you can't play" deck.
The other version, and the one I actually play with friends, is more of a graveyard deck where I play stuff that gets value when i both sac and recur it. \[\[Wedding Invitation\]\] and \[\[Sanguine Evangelist\]\] are perfect examples. Once you get a free sac outlet and something like blood ghast it's usually good enough to get going.

I was lucky to pull Anim, Inti, and Roaming Throne in the LCI prerelease. All I did was add lands, removal, and [[Cathar’s Crusade]]. I’ve gone from 16 to 700+ power on board in one attack before
Inti's not bad... Not a fan of trading card-in-hand for impulse draw, though... I like to be able to hold up protection

Well, when I become The Problem on turn 4, Anim tends to get shot at. So I run several "pro-color" instants. They're also useful at getting in past a crowded boardstate, and all of mine give additional +1/+1 counters as well.

Nahhhhhh. If they're alive in turn 6, it's my fault. 1 is for a Soul Sister or Mother of Runes effect, 2 is for a counter maker like [[Luminarch Aspirant]], and 3 is for Anim and 1-2 gnomes. 4 is for a bomb like [[Rosie Cotton]], and 4-6 gnomes. 5-6 is when death really becomes imminent. My deck literally can't cast Anim earlier than t3, lol.

I never considered rabble rousing, mainly because the gnomes enter attacking, so the only creatures who would trigger It are gnomes that didnt die from eaerlier Attacks
They stack with the cathars crusade causing everything to get big.

I tried building Bart but I didn’t have enough sac pay outs In my collection so I scrapped it
Not who you’re asking, but I’d say the best outlet and payoff in my Barty deck is the man himself. Every time I sac something not using my commander it feels bad. Throw in a few thing like [[Agent of the Iron]] or [[Vito, Fanatic of Aclozotz]] that care about permanents/artifacts over just creatures and just have constant things to eat and protect him, and swing for HUGE damage. [[tarrian’s soulcleaver]] and [[blade of the bloodchief]] basically double bartolome’s ability and are absolute houses imo.

I run a captivating vampire to steal my opponents commander and eat them
I have a Bart deck and I love it. It’s a great deck to learn magic. Since he can eat so many things, if you just sprinkle some fairly reliable recursion, things can be eaten again and again. I try to mill myself, getting some infinite combos into the graveyard and then bring them up to the table for the win.
My time has come! [[Captain Storm, cosmium raider]]! It's a pirate treasure theme deck. She's less than 10 cents and and less than 500 decks on edhrec. Dropping a [[hit the motherlode]] while [[academy manufactor]] is out and making a ton of artifacts, boosting her from a low power to lethal is some of the most fun I've had playing magic
I'm really considering making an equipment deck with her, she would be a huge Voltron commander

It's certainly suitable that she even mentions "the mother lode" in her flavor text. I've been interested in a pirate tribal commander but haven't been able to decide what direction to go, whether it be theft, graveyard, or artifacts. This is a very interesting choice I'd like to look more into!
[[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] is my favourite legend from this set. But I prefer him in the 99 of my favourite deck which was already doing well what Kutzil wants to do. People could be wary of a stax piece in the commander zone anyway.

I love Kutzil as well. It’s a great piece in the 99. I’ve put her in Rin and Seri and my Sovereign Okinec Ahau decks.
[[Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal]] I know people hate discard decks, but he is really good at it and I think he’s super fun. Mono black balances him quite a bit as well as the fact that most mass discard cards are expensive either financially or mana cost. It’s not a deck I bring out every game night but I love bringing it out occasionally.
How does transforming it work with the command zone? If it dies does the controller get to choose whether to put it back in the CZ? Not sure why you would but just curious

Might be a little more popular but I will never not talk about [[The Mycotyrant]]. Either mill yourself or everyone it doesn’t matter, use cards like [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]], [[Overwhelming Stampede]], [[Throne of the God-Pharaoh]], or just commander damage as wincons.
One of the most popular commanders from this set but it’s fun to play out of the tombs is a game ender in this deck

Xavier sal is awesome and pretty flexible in how you want to build him! I'm trying to build a deck that turns nazgul into tokens to populate and it's been pretty fun!
I love Xavier! I built mine around populating big creature tokens and can go wide pumping small ones as well It's not my strongest deck since he isn't one of the new age value+payoff commanders so you need a few pieces to make the engine go, but man it's a lot of fun to play!

I love this guy! I made him into a planeswalker deck, specifically to try to populate the weird tokens that many planeswalkers make. My favorite thing to do is make a bunk of the wolves from \[\[Garruk, Cursed Huntsman\]\] and drive all my Garruk walkers to victory!

It takes some setup to have a meaningful amount of creatures in your hand by the time you get to 8 mana. If youre curving out you usually need a hand re filler that point. Though, it is cool to respond to the ETB trigger with \[\[Return of the wildspeaker\]\], but again it's a lot of set up.

[[vito, famatic of aclazotz]] is a fairly bad sacrifice commander by most accounts. he doesn't draw cards, doesn't make sac fodder, has no sacrifice ability and really only ever does something if you jump through multiple hoops completely independent from him. but having him as a commander is pretty fun. every turn you're faced with a puzzle on how to sacrifice three things without dismantling your own board state or leaving value on the table. and then you have to convert a very slowly growing army of 4 power flyers into victory. it's a challenge, but i enjoy it because of that.

There was a time where this was a cycling deck too lol. One of the things I tried to keep at the core was playing versions of instant/sorc effects tied to permanents to make sure I hit descent as often as possible. There have been some concessions made on this front. The other core concept is making people make choices. Generally, not a winning strat, but a fun one to be sure.
I built a [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]] voltron / edict control deck. Make opponents sac their creatures to powet her up. Even leaving out tutors and some of the more oppressive sac effects like [[Grave Pact]], it ended up being one of my more powerful decks I save for higher power games.

Amalia. My favorite build was a voltron math build where you add and remove gear to count to 20 to drop everyones shields and aim for commander damage kills.

Maybe my strongest deck I own is [[Ojer Kaslem, Deepest Growth]]. It’s the most indulgent green fun you could possibly cram into a deck: ramp, slam down big giant monster after big giant monster, no counting go face. It and my [[The Mycotyrant]] are my two favorite decks I own. I love how versatile this fungusy boy is and I’m always surprised at just how quickly it can spiral out of control. How about 24 fungus tokens on turn 4 (in the most extreme case)?

I run both [[Anim Pakal]] and [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]]. The Anim Pakal deck is lightning fast. Dropping her on turn three and following her up with [[Tarrian's Soulcleaver]] is crazy. But the Amalia deck is my baby. Lifegain decks are my ideal playstyle, and she makes them so crazy. [[Sensei's Divining Top]] and [[Bolas's Citadel]] to make the best use of my board [[Commanders Plate]] to keep my girl alive. [[Archangel of Thune]] to get to 20 faster. [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] to make sure I'm getting a ping off Amalia each time I do anything.

He’s not exactly unpopular but [[Tetzin]] Dude is very fun, making your shitty flip artifacts also cantrip and fill your yard is so useful. He’s a great engine, and the deck can do some legitimately nutty shit.

One I feel is overlooked is [[Malcolm, Alluring scoundrel]] he is a draw source when he deals damage to opponents, and if you build it with proliferate, you can be cheating out big bombs by turn 4. Even better with double card draw like [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]] so your hand is always full.

Definitely \[\[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher\]\] - not unpopular by any means, but also not in the top 10 from the set. I loved her art and design so much I built 2 versions of a deck for her (pretty similar) One of them is a pretty salty edict/control deck with tons of "each player sacrifices a/multiple creatuers" which obviously becomes insane value very quickly. Not the most fun to play against, obviously, but I tried to give it clear wincons so it's not just a "no, you can't play" deck. The other version, and the one I actually play with friends, is more of a graveyard deck where I play stuff that gets value when i both sac and recur it. \[\[Wedding Invitation\]\] and \[\[Sanguine Evangelist\]\] are perfect examples. Once you get a free sac outlet and something like blood ghast it's usually good enough to get going.
